Christianity EtcRe: If Your Mum Is Practising Witchcraft On You by Seun(mod): 8:45pm On Oct 15, 2005
What exactly will cause you to jump to the conclusion that your mum is using witchcraft on you? And why is it your mom that is percieved as a witch, why don't you consider the possibility that your dad is a wizard and he has nothing better to do with his supernatural powers than to persecute his own son, after toiling for decades to raise him up?

I think the idea that your mom would be practising withcraft on you is ridiculous. if she wanted to kill you, she would have done it a long time ago, when you were in her womb or as a baby. Come on! Women take a lot of nonsense from men!

TravelRe: Pollution from Toxic Gas Fumes Spreading in Lagos by Seun(mod): 9:58pm On Oct 14, 2005
But government scientists who analyzed the fumes determined they resulted from the build up of emissions from factories and old cars, Lagos state spokesman Kehinde Bamgbetan said.

"The climate became a little bit colder, so it enabled the polluted air to develop into a smog," Bamgbetan said.

No one died from the smog, he said.

Hello escon,

I notice that you say you've announced that you're single and available, but then you claim that you're "not looking". This is called poppycock and I'm sure the girls know this! grin

Welcome to Nairaland, I so much love your spirit! Do you want us to shorten your display name from Esconedge to 'Escon' so that people will find it very easy to communicate with you?

WebmastersE-mail Spamming May Soon Be Against the Law in Nigeria! by Seun(mod): 6:20pm On Oct 14, 2005
ABUJA, Nigeria (AP) -- Nigeria -- which has global notoriety as a base for criminals exploiting the reach of the Internet -- is considering making spamming a criminal offense that could land senders of unsolicited e-mails in jail for three years.

"Any person spamming electronic messages to recipients with whom he has no previous relationship commits an offense," said the text of the draft law presented to the legislature this week.

A person found guilty risks either at least three years in jail, a fine equal to $3,500, or both.

http://edition.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/africa/10/14/nigeria.spam.ap/

I'm a bit concerned about this law, because it can easily be abused, but I think they are doing it primarily because of the "Yahoo Boys" who have tarnished our image abroad. This seems to be a step in the direction, or what do you think? Will the bill be approved by the legislators?

CultureRe: Female Circumcision: what's wrong with it? by Seun(mod): 12:21am On Oct 14, 2005
The fact that a woman isn't enjoying sex doesn't prevent her from having sex with a teacher to win a favor or having sex with boys in class out of curiousity (or a desire for gifts or attention) and pretending to enjoy it. Remember, when it comes to sex, women are experts at pretending.

I won't pretend to be an expert, but please read:

TravelRe: Lagos: The World's 5th Worst Place to Live In by Seun(mod): 9:21am On Oct 13, 2005
Vancouver is the world's best place to live, a survey by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) has found. The EIU ranked 127 cities in terms of personal risk, infrastructure and the availability of goods and services.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/4306936.stm

Only 127 cities were surveyed, so maybe we shouldn't take it too negatively? Afterall, Lagos is not the only city in Nigeria and we know it has problems. I'm not concerned about how the world sees our cities, I'm more concerned about the notion they have that we are corrupt.

If the world under-rates us, it will only make it easier for us to compete in the 'global village'.

TravelRe: Pollution from Toxic Gas Fumes Spreading in Lagos by Seun(mod): 8:32am On Oct 13, 2005
If it's gas from a vandalized NNPC pipeline as some people have suggested then the only real danger might be the possibility of an explosion near the source of the fumes. But the fumes are from a factory, it may be something to be concerned about and air samples in affected areas should be taken for lab analysis.

I'm glad to hear that it's getting better. Happy ending! smiley
PoliticsRe: Pictures On the New 1,000 Naira Note by Seun(mod): 10:56pm On Oct 12, 2005
Let's not bring the issue of tribalism into this. The two men are said to be former Central Bank Directors and that's all there is to it! If a yorubaman or Iboman had been in the position, their faces would have been on the note. Look, the people in government are driven by personal ambitions and they only play the ethnic card in order to rally support from the tribalistic masses. Let's not buy into that rubbish: the two men are former Central Bank officials hence their names are on the 1,000 naira note.

FamilyRe: What If Your Child Rejects Your Family Religion? by Seun(mod): 10:24pm On Oct 12, 2005
I don't like the idea of parents mistreating their children in the name of "God". This is child abuse. What Abraham did when he wanted to sacrifice Isaac is also murder and child abuse, and since he was more than 20 years old at the time, I think Isaac had issues too. Allow my aged father to tie me up with the intention of stabbing and burning me to death? I don't think so!

I just called someone who works at Oba Akran Avenue, Ikeja and in his office are busy at work and haven't even heard about this issue. So hopefully it's nothing much and maybe the dense smoke as described by whizkid's acquaintance is only in a small area. It may be smoke from a factory or something.
TravelRe: Pollution from Toxic Gas Fumes Spreading in Lagos by Seun(mod): 3:12pm On Oct 12, 2005
[s]I'm concerned about this, because I know that while people people ought to leave the area of the fumes, they might stay and suffer/die to to ignorance or inertia. Something like this happened in India and killed thousands of people in the area. I hope that the fumes are not poisonous enough to kill, and that there's no stampede.[/s]
