Pls this thread is for deists. |
GoodMuyis:Please tell us everything you experienced. I'm eager to learn about what part of your experience at the psych ward contradicts what I said. There are many factor that causes mental illness, and if those people are cured from such causes a mad person is made whole.Could you give us a list of the factors causing mental illness, so that we can discuss them? Thanks. |
When you lose a loved one, it is normal to have dreams about them. There is no cause for alarm. Stop torturing yourself. Dreams have no meaning; at most, they could help you to understand yourself better. Face the realities of life. Be at peace. |

It is normal to dream about your mother. Don’t read too much meaning into it. Your mind is trying to process the loss. |
I don’t think people need salvation. Salvation from what? ![]() |
awesomeJ:The argument that God allows bad things to happen to make Christians better people fails to explain why God often allows Christians to die as a result of their sufferings, which gives them no opportunity to display the “utter brilliance” that they were “refined” for. How did being roasted alive in a plane, which she certainly didn’t deserve, make Bimbo Odukoya a better person? As a Christian, God never allows bad things happen to you. Apart from salvation that Jesus came for, he also came to guarantee all other forms of well-being for us as Christians. So every and all things WORK TOGETHER FOR OUR GOOD AS CHRISTIANS.Numerous Christians have been raped and murdered, died of cancer, died in car accidents, died in childbirth, died of malaria, etc. Can you explain how things “worked together for the good” of these dead Christians? |
butterflyl1on:People have a poor understanding of what ‘madness’ actually is. They think madness is something like a demon that descends on you in a moment and takes over your body while keeping you unconscious. So when a ‘’mad’ person is looking a bit sober and responding to questions somewhat coherently, they think he has been “healed”. ‘Mad’ people are just mentally ill people who have been abandoned by their families. They have good days and bad days but they are always dirty because they don’t have homes in which to take their baths and wash their clothes. They don’t have money to buy new clothes and get haircuts. They talk to themselves either because they hear voices that are not there or because they are intensely lonely because no one talks to them. My point is that mental illness symptoms often come and go, so there are times when ‘mad’ people are really irrational and weird in their behavior, talking loudly to themselves and fighting with real or imaginary people for no reason, but there are other times when they are calm and relatively normal and if you talk to them they will respond like ‘normal’ people. In this case, the man was said to have been healed because he could say his name and point to the direction of his family house, and because he looked alright after they changed his clothes and barbed his hair. Look, I’m glad that they took care of his hygiene but they should take care of his mental health too, by taking him to a psychiatric hospital and paying for his treatment. Otherwise, he’ll end up on the streets again when these holy people get tired of tolerating him. |
MuttleyLaff:That’s one of the functions of government. To discourage people from doing things which are harmful to others, such as murder, rape, theft, fraud, and drunk driving, and lock up the people who still choose to do those things. The vast majority of people are decent and the things they wish to dedicate their lives to are harmless and often very noble. Religion is no substitute for a good government. Bad people don’t fear the afterlife nearly as much as they fear being punctured by bullets or jailed. If our government is not effective, the solution is not prayer. The solution is to put pressure on them until they improve (activism) and also vote intelligently. That’s how the secularly governed western countries we all wish to emigrate to got to where they are today. |
Andrewgame42:I’ll mock any gods you want me to mock, anywhere, if I have heavily armed bodyguards. I don’t fear evil spirits but I fear evil men, because evil men are real. |
dvaliant:Life is to be enjoyed. In addition to this, you can give your life any purpose that appeals to you. Some people want to cure cancer or learn the secrets of the universe, Others want to be famous and touch peoples hearts through music and other arts. Others just want to get married and raise happy kids and grandkids. Our purpose is not imposed on us. We get to choose what we want to dedicate our lives to. What we enjoy. What we consider to be important. What we are naturally good at. Whatever appeals to us. |
blesskewe:If bad things never happened to Christians, the whole world would have noticed it and converted to Christianity. That would have been boring, so God decided to spice things up by allowing Christians to experience misfortunes randomly, just like non-Christians. |
I don’t even know what you are talking about. Lalasticlala please brief me when you see this |
Desyner:Here is a simple question for you. Which solution to the problem of hunger and unclothedness does “James” consider to be more effective? (a) a prayer or prophetic declaration (“receive clothes and receive food in Jesus name!”), or (b) actually giving the needy person food to eat and clothes to wear? |
Daeylar:Yes, this is a very wrong and counter-productive statement. Even the writer of the book of James in the Bible didn’t believe that. He wrote: “If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.” In other words, prayer without action is totally unhelpful. An activist is infinitely better than a prayer warrior. Pastor Adeboye was wrong. ![]() |

Now, on your statement "Moderate drinking is not a sin; Jesus drank wine." Why would you believe in sin or no sin, since it's all a "fantasy"?My definition of sin is "something that is not allowed in a particular religion". Drinking alcohol in moderation is allowed in biblical Christianity. Perhaps you're just trying so hard to see who gets to join you in becoming an atheist, and if it's being so hard to achieve that in a person, you're planning to settle for the other option of encouraging them to live in sin.I don't encourage or discourage sin. Some biblical sins, like murder and adultery and fraud, are wrong. Others, like telling lies to save someone's life, and safe sex in a monogamous relationship, are highly recommended. I try to encourage beneficial acts, and discourage harmful acts. I wouldn't encourage anyone to take alcohol. I don't take it myself because soft drinks taste and smell better and are cheaper and less harmful. |
mrintegrity30:Most people would spend he time calling or texting friends and family members to say "goodbye" to them. |
QueenBeeHive:Why do you want to kill yourself? What are you experiencing in your life that is so bad? |
It's a pity that religion does not help people when they need it most. Fortunately, she won't burn in hell, because hell is an imaginary place. |
jaymejate:That's normal. Always use protection (condoms, plus something else) and be faithful to the woman you choose to commit yourself to. That's all. I was caught drinking and i was reported. that was when he told me i'm possessed.Nonsense. Moderate drinking is not a sin; Jesus drank wine. If you re addicted to alcohol (you can't do without it) then it's a medical condition. |
