Mbcastrol:Do Witches & Wizards Exist? I Don't Think So! |
Why should a married man visit a bar to drink alone after work instead of going home? |
@awesomeJ, can you post the final evidence that you have? The one that you consider to be personal to me? The most powerful one? Thanks. |
awesomeJ:You have failed to answer the question. Before moving on, can we all agree that you don’t have any good reason for not being ready to accept Islam as being true if a Muslim gave you the same testimonies that you want me/atheists to accept as evidence for the truth of Christianity? |
@awesomeJ, have you given up on your primary mission? You said these powerful testimonies you’ve shared with me wouldn’t convert you to Islam because “you are not religious”, etc. Please explain it to me like I’m five. |
awesomeJ post[quote author=awesomeJ:I understand that you won’t convert to Islam, which, as darkchild64 said, begs the question of why you think that people ought to accept these testimonies as evidence that Christianity is true. Sadly, I don’t understand the reason you gave. Can you explain it more clearly? |
nowpresence:There’s nothing wrong with the age gap, but late pregnancies are problematic. If he wants to have kids with the lady, he needs to get to work! |
awesomeJ:Pentecostal Christians pray about almost everything in their lives. There is no way that he didn’t pray for his wife to deliver the baby safely. Even if he did, we don't claim as christians that every prayer gets answered. If just 5% of prayers got answered, pentecostal Christians would be doing so well that most atheists would quickly convert to Christianity. I know you also have reasons which explain why the third testimony is also purely of luck. please share those reasons. I have an interest in seeing just how good you are at twisting super obvious facts around.I will do that when you tell us whether or not you would convert to Islam if a Muslim gave almost identical testimonies as evidence for Islam. |
awesomeJ:1. If it was without CS, she would have mentioned it. Testimony givers always highlight the details that would make their stories impressive. 2. There was a 50% chance of a safe delivery, which is high. and the doctor may even have exaggerated the risk to manage expectations. 3. The idea that her daughter's safe delivery had anything to do with her decision to sweep the church auditorium is only worthy of ridicule. |
awesomeJ:Here’s the problem with testimonies. They suffer from selection bias. When people experience bad luck, they don’t give testimonies, but when they experience good luck, they give testimonies. That gives listeners the impression that more good things are happening to the brethren. If you told us the story of your life, mentioning only the positive things you have experienced, we would be envious of your good fortune. However, if you mentioned only your negative experiences, we would think you were the most pathetic loser in the world. See what I mean? 1. The first guy was driving in the estate on Mon Jan 29th, and as he drove past the church, he felt an urge within him if to just stop by the church to pray. So he went in, prayed his heart out, and didn't mind whoever else was there with him in the auditorium. Thereafter, he drove straight to the hospital where his wife had been since Sunday Jan 28th due to prolonged labour. About 2 hours after he arrived, the wife delivered safely...The urge to pray in a church and cry to God was not mysterious. It is normal for a Christian who thinks his wife will die to do such things. The successful delivery of his second wife was to be expected, since most deliveries are successful. The fact that he lost his first wife and child in childbirth makes the story even less impressive to me, because he would have taken more precautions e.g. getting her admitted at a better hospital. It also made me wonder why his miracle-working God didn’t answer his prayers when his first wife and child died on the same day. The fact that both wives had difficult deliveries may be a coincidence. It may also be that he is a large man attracted to small-sized women. Suppose a Muslim told you the same story you just told us, only replacing words like ‘church’ with ‘mosque’, etc. Would you convert to Islam? |
awesomeJ:If you have evidence, present it here in one post, and it will be judged by all the atheists on this section, including me, if time permits. Cheers. |
awesomeJ:I hereby reject these terms. The last thing I need right now is a distraction. Thanks a million. Feel free to offer your game to others. |
@awesomeJ: Okay. I can’t wait to look into your persuasive and objective evidence. |
You need to get her pregnant a.s.a.p, and marry her before the pregnancy starts showing. ![]() |
You’ve been watching the Lucifer TV show, right? Cain would have died of the health complications of old age if he actually existed. |
Your advice will be duly considered. Thanks for sharing. |
Please, just for info, how much is the cost of a bag of charcoal? |
Wow, N480k is a lot of money for these little chicks. What is a full grown ostrich worth? |
awesomeJ:The fact that you performed an action before an outcome happened doesn’t mean the action caused the outcome. Every morning I wake up, and the sun rises within the hour. That does not mean that my waking up causes the sun to rise. Hope you get that? Let’s say that there was a time when you didn’t pay tithes and you were poorer. And currently you pay tithes and feel that you are richer. You have to consider all the factors before concluding that the tithes are responsible. (But first, you need to ascertain that you are actually making more money now. If your salary was 100k after tax, and now it is 111k before tithe, the amount you get to spend is exactly the same as before, so you have not actually been blessed. On top of that, you also have to consider inflation, which is quite high in Nigeria. Your salary could have doubled over the years without any increase in your purchasing power.) Let’s suppose that after all those calculations, you have determined that there has been an increase in your purchasing power. You have to first consider natural things that could have led to that outcome such as getting a (better) job or being promoted, marrying a rich person, starting a successful business, etc. I can guarantee that you would find a couple of those things. Having found them, it makes no sense to credit tithing. Crediting tithing for your blessings after getting a more lucrative job is like crediting praise worship for your good smell after using a cologne which can be clearly demonstrated to be responsible for the smell. |
spartan117:How can we distinguish between spiritual things, which can’t be understood logically, and arrant nonsense, which also cannot be understood logically? |
spartan117:The most successful Christians are those who compartmentalize their religion from their work. So at work, they rely on logic for most of their important decisions. The most successful religious country (USA) is the one that has strict separation between church and state in its constitution, so that most civil and legal decisions are made based on logical reasoning. So yes, Christians use logic too, and it works for them in the areas of their lives in which they choose to use it. If all that outspoken atheists can achieve is to persuade religious people to use logic in more areas of life, it’s totally worth it. However need I remind you that the Jews one of the most religious people on the planet have contributed the most to every aspect of scienceJews are not very religious. A Gallup survey in 2015 determined that 65 percent of Israelis say they are either "not religious" or "convinced atheists", while 30 percent say they are "religious" Source (Wikipedia) countless other Christians around the globe have made scientific breakthroughs ... But we Christians who are spiritually minded know that there is a limit to what science can achieve. When we are confronted with a seemingly impossible challenge we know that there is a higher life we are called to live and in there is the solution to the challenge we face. This attitude is one of the reasons why religious thinking is so damaging. When Christians can’t easily figure out the solutions to their problems, they switch off their brains and turn to God. Instead of just doing more research, reaching out to human experts who may know better, and persevering in brainstorming until they figure out the solution, they start praying and fasting, which is totally unproductive. As long as we don’t understand that our hardest problems (e.g the herdsmen attacks, corruption, terrorism, poor healthcare, insecurity, etc) will not be solved until we come up with comprehensive solutions and implement them effectively, we will continue implementing half-baked solutions and hoping that our supporting prayers will make them work. |
spartan117:Countries in which most people rely on logic and evidence are far more successful than countries in which most people rely on God and miracles |
NollywoodFreak:You must be the Devil’s personal assistant because you know all about his plans. Please upload some of his powerpoints. ![]() |
Buterflylion:The content of your post is despicable. You should be ashamed of what you have written. Shame on your opinions. |
kistone:How are you sure that the “blessings” are a result of your tithing, and not your hard work and a little bit of luck? Many people who don’t even believe in God enjoy bountiful “blessings”. Some of them are even the richest people in the world. |
According to our policy, we were supposed to clean the thread up. |
vaxx:People who study their religions more deeply in order to prove atheists wrong often end up escaping from their faith. They become atheists or deists. Religion is a house of cards. The more you know, the less you believe. |
Congrats, lady. I’m glad that you’re enjoying your freedom so much. |
Every first fruit story is a tragedy. Of course, giving away an entire month salary can make you go broke and have to beg your poorer friends for money. Christ Embassy workers in particular are known for this. The story is plausible. |
Somebody thought she was dead and published it. The person was duly corrected. And somehow, this is a miracle. ![]() |
winner01: ![]() I don’t believe in hell either. I certainly don’t believe that eternal torment is the appropriate punishment for any finite crime, unlike the author of Revelation who thinks every person who has ever told a lie deserves to be burned alive for ever and ever and ever. Billions of billions of billions of years times infinity. That’s not right. |
Muafrika2:I don’t believe Indian gods are real, haven’t joined any cult, and I dont believe Satan exists just as I don’t believe God exists. All liars shall go to hell bro. |
