Please answer these two questions with as many answers as you can possibly give:

Does a man marry a second wife out of 'love' for his wife?
What are the possible motives for marrying a second woman that do not go against the principles of true love, commitment and faithfulness? I can think of lack of contentment, lust, and sexual incontinence. These certainly go against those principles! Please I'd like your answers so I can look at where you are coming from.

MOTIVE, MOTIVE, MOTIVE!

When you become one with your wife, and then go on to join another person, you cannot become 'one' with the new person because you have already been 'merged into one' with your 'wife'.  Jesus said 'not all can accept this saying' when he explained adultery and divorce. If you still don't get it; If your partner is unfaithful to you (adultery), you can leave them on that basis; Marrying the 'other woman' does not rule it out as adultery against your 'wife'. You are committing adultery against your spouse if you have another 'besides him/her'.

The relationship between a man and 'his wife' is supposed to be like that of Christ and 'his bride' - the Church. The Lord Jesus is faithful to us. Men are commanded to love their wives as Christ loves the church. Jesus has just one bride; a man should have just one wife! God hates unfaithfulness. Unfaithfulness breaks the heart of your spouse - whether male or female!

Lastly, likeme, don't take my understanding of this matter for it; ask the Holy Spirit to explain to you, after all he is the one who convicts us of sin. He will surely guide us in the right path! [/b]

You forgot to mention any Christian Church you know that stones adulterers! Are there any Shariah courts that condemn adulterers to death? Yes!  Jesus Christ asks them (and all sinners) to repent, accept forgiveness, and live a life that pleases God. Yes, he did not come to abolish the LAW, he came to take our PUNISHMENT for disobeying the LAW, so that we can start afresh and obey God's laws with help of the Holy Spirit.

Let us enjoy the grace and assurance of eternal life that is available through Christ; You go and prepare for the 72 virgins waiting for you in Al-Jannah as promised you! Remember to drink all the 'paraga' you can 'cos you'll be needing it!  . Blessed with the strength 'only available to prophets', you will have de-flowered all the virgins in 1 day! Do you know of any Christian Church where those Old testament punishments are being administered now? I will answer for you, No such Christian Church exists. Those punishments were applicable under the Old Covenant.

Jesus is the spiritual administrator for the 'laws of the spirit' that is written on our hearts by God, not any levite priest or any other human. We are under Grace through the New Covenant made in the blood of Jeus Christ, not under the ' ministry of death'. So stop all these nonsense you go about spreading on Nairaland. Christians do not stone or murder adulterers/fornicators; We know that it is God who gives to everyone according to the work of his hands, not our pastors or our family!

As you are a muslim, why are you so obsessed with punishments that are not applicable to Christianity when your Islamic laws mandate similar punsihments in this day and age? Remove the log in your eye so that you can see well to point out the speck in another's eye!

Poster, It's tricky! You might lose your friendship! I'd say talk to the girl, find out if she has changed. If she has changed, there is no need to tell your friend. Assure her that you will keep it confidential and keep a bit of distance from your friend. If she double-crosses you, that will be the time to send the videos to your friend!

Sledge406, In talking to the girl, he might be able to convince her to tell her man the truth! He would have helped a liar tell the truth and helped reveal the truth to the one who has been deceived. I don't condone her lying about being a virgin but I still maintain that men do not tell their girlfriends/wives that they were serial rapists and have changed! If men wait till they get married for sex or stay faithful to their wives, most women will be come into marriage untouched.

It's hypocritical that the OP did not complain when his friends were 'doing' the girl back at school and passing videos around. He is now not happy that his friend will end up with their object of fun and ridicule!

People pray silently outside a dedicated prayer time all the time. On the bus, on the Tube, On Okada, . . . .  the last minute prayer before you ask your boss for that salary increment! People commune God all the time without speaking out Loud! Mute people pray too, don't they?

That said, I understand Jo's point about it being a lazy form of praying. If you are one who gets up in the middle of the night and does two miles walking about and praying in your lounge/bedroom every night for an hour, when you start praying in bed, under the covers in your mind for only 10 mins, something is seriously wrong! A weakened prayer life is one of the enemy's strategies to get to you!

On a lighter note, attempting a 'Mountain of Fire and Miracles' prayer style on the tube at 8am on monday morning will very likely get you thrown off the tube, arrested, or seriously considered for sectioning!

The fact that Rachel gave her handmaid to Jacob (when there was no law against it) does not make it right for a Christian woman in this dispensation to give her housegirl to her husband to bear children for them! God examines the heart, if you read my first contribution, you will see my emphasis on motive. Let every man who wants to take a second wife examine his motives very well to see whether they are sinful. The Bible tells men to love their wives. If you love your wife you will not lust after another woman to the extent of committing adultery against your wife. I find it difficult to understand how a man marries 'another wife' out of love for his 'wife'. Perhaps, you could enlighten.

It is quite unfortunate that most people that have contributed to this post still have slavery mentality. Commenting on immigration issues is like walking on ice; if you haven’t experience immigration problem or have a close relation/friend that is going through it; you are better off keeping quite. Unaware to majority of you, UK has a very harsh/primitive way of dealing with immigration issues. Majority of the countries in the developed world including US, Spain, Italy and Germany are very good with border control and have in the past granted asylum to illegal immigrants or in the case of the US Visa lottery. UK has never had any sort of asylum to immigrants; instead they kept coming up with stricter Immigration laws that are nothing but against human right. YES I said Human right, you guys can Google ECHR and what it says; people have right to various right including right to establish a life, freedom of movement, association, fend for themselves and so on. How hypocritical of them to always campaigning for human right in the developing countries and poking their nose into other countries issues.
So before most of you run your mouth without thinking how would you feel if you cannot get painkiller to treat common headache and you have to practically beg just to get one whilst you are being locked up in some inhuman detention and you are subjected to ridicule? Or how would you feel if you cannot fend for your family (a family that you made in a foreign land) or how would you feel to see that a violent criminal walk free on the street while a British made criminal (illegal immigrant) is been locked up because he/she happen to be unfortunate to have migrated to a country that is supposed to be headquarter of common wealth states? Why is Nigeria still part of common wealth, when we practically do not benefit from it apart from been able to vote in their elections? I have seen people that would have been granted leave to remain in other countries being refused for example; someone with a naturalised British mother that reunited with his/her mother been refused, wife/husband of British citizen is been refused etc. So the issue of illegal immigration in the UK cannot be corrected if they do not sort out those in the UK already in form of granting amnesty to asylum seekers and illegal migrants.
Anyway guess I have to stop here, but before you cast any stone check yourself to see if you do not have any blemish. May God help us all (AMEN).

Saying that the UK does not grant asylum to immigrants is incorrect! We read here in the papers how immigrants who get asylum get preferential treatment in terms of accomodation and benefits compared to indigenous Britons. The immigration laws are not against human rights, they are to control number and skills movement from outside the EU!

I do not know of any discrepancies in the Bible that point out that Jesus is not 'God come down in the flesh'. In my answer to Q3, I presented some scriptures that point out that God came to us in the flesh. Please refer me to any scriptures that expressly point out or bring you to the conclusion that Jesus is not God; we learn everyday.

Quite a few men would love to marry a partner who has kept themself pure, but many of them have not kept themselves pure! Why are you looking for a female virgin when you yourself have abused a minor and despoiled/'chanced' a woman? Your chances of marrying a sexually pure/ HIV free partner will increase when you 'zip up your pants' and encourage your fathers, uncles, brothers and friends to do the same. You will also need to encourage the females around you to 'keep their panties on'.

Females also need to encourage the men in their lives to stay pure too! Encourage your Boyfriends, Fiances, Uncle, brothers and fathers to stay pure or faithful where applicable. Encourage your girlfriends, sisters, mothers, cousins and aunts to 'keep their panties on' too.

The problem of sexual immorality and perversion that has hitherto been a thing of the west has gradually invaded our societies in Africa. The West can cope with the problems arising out of 'sexual incontinence' to an extent but can we? How medically advanced are we to deal with these problems? How many Nigerians can afford to pay HIV/STD treatment bills? How many can afford to get treatment when the emotional and psychological consequences of 'sexual incontinence' catch up with them?

Start discouraging sexual immorality today by preaching and practicing what you preach and don't forget to encourage our children to report anyone who touches them inappropriately! Don't let sexual immorality steal our future and our children's future!

I will infer from this scripture that marrying/joining yourself to/ having intimate relations with 'another' besides your 'wife' is adultery.

Lastly, ask yourself this question. What is your motive for marrying a second wife, bearing in mind that God looks at the heart?

Is it because you are lusting after that new woman? Sinful.
Is it because you are bored with your wife[b] (putting her away, would like to try some 'Pounded yam' because you've been having 'Jollof Rice' all these years)?[/b] Sinful - Only death is supposed to do you apart, not her 'no longer firm bosoms', your lust for some or plenty of 'Pounded yam' or her ageing.
Is it because you just want to escape from the Covenant of marriage? Sinful - God hates Divorce (It is a form of covenant breaking).

You got it completely wrong, Flawless! The UK grants asylum to people who meet the criteria and in some case those who even do not! Let's be honest, we know there are many people who lie to get asylum! About the examples you gave, you can be refused 'leave to remain' if you do not present the correct documents! If you meet the criteria stipulated for asylum or 'leave to remain', you will get it if you follow proper procedure and present all documentation required! Many people lie and falsify documents when presenting their applications. The UK has a right to protects it territory and control the influx of people. We already see what inefficient (in some aspects) immigration control has done to the UK - Human trafficking, Crime and terrorism.

I will feel betrayed only if he was still doing it and my friend did not tell me! If he[b] had stopped and it was in his past[/b], I would understand why my friend did not tell me! Tha's why I suggested he find out if the girl has changed before acting!

If you are talking about the Holy Spirit, you will need to have a relationship with God to be filled with the spirit. In this dispensation, the Holy Spirit is available through accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour!

Romans 10 vs 10; 'For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation'

Matthew 7 vs 7: 'Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you'

You cannot put the cart before the horse. If you want the Holy Spirit, you will need to Ask God for his forgiveness of all your sins; accept forgiveness his by accepting Christ; Confess that Jesus Christ is Lord; and ask for the Holy Spirit.

Don't forget that God sees the heart. Apply both scriptures as quoted above with sincerity if you are truly seeking to be filled with the spirit.

I did take an interest in the language when I was around 7 years old. I learnt the alphabets, and could write and recite them. I can only recite them now! It was very interesting!

I still had many of my Christian principles but the 'relationship' with God was lacking.  I read my Bible less and never went to Church. The Joy and Peace that comes with maintaining that relationship was absent. The temporary joy available in the world was there but you know it doesn't last. Sin crept in little by little and was gradually taking over my life. I too found myself committing sin and not asking forgiveness.

However, there was still a longing within me for that fullness, joy, peace and strength that I had when I was very close to God. It was a love relationship that I missed so much. I had been brought up and taught to do right and I just longed to do right and be right with God.

The first thing I did was I started to feed myself with the word of God; reading my bible, watching Christian programmes on  TV and  reconnecting with Christian friends who encouraged me in the word of God. A lot of pollution is fed to us all the time and we need to replace it with the word of God. The word of God renews and transforms us when we meditate on it day and night.

I also decided to start going to Church. What kept me from going to church was my sinning. Fellowshipping with the brethren in the presence of God helped in reviving the nature of Christ that was dying.
I was also praying, while doing those three things above, asking God to help me. I said I wanted to live the rest of my life for him (Re-dedication). I wanted to have that relationship I once had with him. I had tasted him, knew he was good and just wanted him back in my life. I asked him to fan this fire of longing for him aflame. He did.

I am back with him, loving him, and still longing for more. I am still asking him to sanctify me and take away anything that he does not want in my life. He has been bringing things he wants rid of to my attention and I am getting rid of them with his help. I promised to give up anything he does not want.

My future is bright, beautiful and secure because he is in my life. I know can do all things through Christ that strengthens me. His plans for me are good. His grace is sufficient for me. If I lose all that I have in the world tomorrow, he is still with me because he is the core of my life; he is all that matters; He has promised he will never leave me nor forsake me. His power and love is evident in my life.

Jesus is ‘God with us’; Jesus is the ‘arm of God that brought us salvation’. You will agree with me that your arm is always part of you, and whatever your arm does, will be counted as something you have done. Therefore, God’s arm ‘Jesus’ is God.
