Solution precis - Fix the State

1. Start a petition online and all over Nigeria, target Southern Nigeria (cooperate)

2. Publish results, embarass the government internally and globally, use the global media, lobby the UN and Super Powers.

3. Demand the implementation of Political and Economic Structural changes in the State (True Federalism, Separation of Powers
Independence of the Judiciary, Rule of Law, Transparent Government, Independent and entrenched Taxation body with published
figures.

4. Start a class action against or sue the FG at the International Court of Justice, Hague for the dereliction of duties
to her citizens regarding not guaranteeing human rights and property (JOS).

5. Assuming all of the above ends up fruitless =====> we opt for "OPTION B", which is point 6 below

6. Form 1 major alliance across the South and parts of the Middle Belt in favour of lobbying the UN for a "UN sponsored referendum"
regarding the secession of Southern Nigeria.

If GEJ wins these elections, and disgruntled elements in the North start sending their suicide bombers down South, all Southerners

start scrambling for cover, (this is my prediction)

The problem is Nigerians are too politically docile.

Why is this the case? It is culturally embeded in us. Yes sah, No Sah, Yes Mah, No Mah, Bow down, Kabiyesi O, O wise elder, Oga sah,
three bags four sah!

What a load of crap.

Can you believe the Prime Minister of Japan, see's himself as a servant of the people when he performs the functions of  public office.
I have seen quite a few Japanese pm's resign in my life time. They enter the cabinet room, show extreme humility and bow down to all.
Then they resign in disgrace, sometimes due to being smeared, and sometimes due to failed policy implementations. If they enter halls
to address the public they humbly bow to the public too.

The bottom line is 'we' as Nigerian citizens are complicit in holding her back if not in her demise.

There are no unifying threads of common decency that have trancended all geo-polities in Nigeria, hence
we are all culpable regarding how we arrived at the status quo. Yes, what I'm saying is that in my humble opinion, we as citizens have to take
some responsibility for the scenario that we have today.

I say this again and again, I blame my Father's generation (the 'Independence Generation') for this mess that we are about to inherit ,
and what a mess it is, a culture of never ending excuses, visionlessness, talkshop politics, and cowardly inaction ,  they have failed us.

The only question for me is whether the next generation will have the balls or will to release their imposed shackles from the previous generation
and 'fix the State' or not?

The situation is still rectifiable even though there are penalties of 'oppotunity cost' for inaction. If we can fix the State, we will fix the
problem!

I am laughing at Nigeria because I must not cry. Bob Marley, who could not hold a candle to Fela in musical ingenuity and force, is Jamaica's national asset. He is "worshipped" in Jamaica and he remains perhaps the country's foremost tourist product. I ask, where is Fela's statue anywhere? Where is his music blaring at our international airports to welcome visitors to Fela's Nigeria the way Bob Marley's welcomes visitors to Jamaica? Where is government's passion in turning Fela's memorial celebration, Felabration, into an international tourist event, a global carnival?
@ bold

What a ridiculous comment to make, even though I acknowledge you're right to make it. Completely subjective, and they were both critics in different contexts. I have also been to the Marley house in Kingston, and it is what it is, you can interact with his kids, or even play football with them if you wish, but what else were you expecting, BM is dead. I object that you had to make the bolded part of your conversation sound like a competition when the fact is that both Fela and BM were outstanding poets, prolific writers and champions of Black consciousness,

Well said, ShangoThor. They will soon be labelling you a 'militant / separatist'  smiley
@ Sapele Guy,

I assure you that I do not hate our Northern countrymen, because they are fellow Africans.

I am actually a Pan-Africanist, but I am realistic and I am aware of the limitations of Pan-Africanism.

If we cannot resolve our collective differences, then we have to opt to separate and provide solutions
to our separate challenges. I mean it could be argued that 'Southern Nigeria' is propping up the
proliferation of poverty in the North. How long do you think the Northern part of Nigeria would last
for as a political entity if they had to deal with their problems of mass illiteracy, unemployment and poverty.

The system would implode I tell you.

Furthermore, I can't understand why people would feel threatened because of the nature of my arguments.
Let's stop being lazy and debate these issues. If we cannot achieve 'True Federalism' we need 'Option B'.

I'm absolutely confident that Option B would provide security, increase living standards, wealth, employment
and government accountability.

Fix the State, and you will fix the problem.

Onlytruth:
Firstly, this article is a complete revisionist trash, with false dates and precedents.
The author talks about Zik aligning with the North in 1957 and the pogroms in the north after the coup while conveniently forgetting that Awo orchestrated the carpet crossing of 1953.
Most of Zik's actions really stem from that incidence because Zik felt that Awo could not be trusted, and he was right.

Secondly, I don't think the author is really from Niger delta. He is a masquerading Yoruba.
I've seen his type MANY times here in nairaland. Their strategy is always to put the blame on the Igbo for all of Nigeria's problems.

Look, what these guys fail to understand is that the Igbo WILL NOT care again about southern Nigeria, until other tribes in the south actually make the same sacrifices Igbo and her allies made in 1967-70.
That is what top Igbo leaders are doing. They don't give a rats @55 about Nigeria or even Southern Nigeria. So, they are buys feasting and plundering Nigeria with EVERYBODY else from North, West, South etc.

@ShangoThor

I like you because you are a very intelligent guy. I pity you though because you cannot see that your ideas here have FOUNDATIONAL problems.

To borrow from you: Fix the foundation, fix the problem!

You cannot fix the foundation when you have animals like fstranger1 posting pictures of starving Biafran children and saying this:

You see why till tomorrow Igbo would always believe that Yoruba plotted to wipe them out for trying to challenge the authority of the North?

You are a smart dude. GO FIGURE this!
Hey OnlyTruth, I cringed when I saw those pics, such methods are absolutely disgusting , there is something seriously wrong with the way some Nigerians reason in general , I lament that any African can depict African children in this manner, I condemn such cowardly acts of people under the guise of pseudo nick names that choose to humiliate others , and wouldn't dare do this to your face,

@ Abagworo,

Hey , you have mentioned the ideal, but can we set a time limit (say 4 years) on trying to achieve the ideal
talk is cheap, and if something isn't working well, as intelligent beings we should be able to take 'evasive action

Can we agree to start looking at 'option b' if we cannot achieve the ideal. After all, if a train was travelling
at high speed unpiloted, and you were certain that it could definitely crash, wouldn't you opt to jump off it as

With the ambition of the Igbos/Ibibios/Efiks for Biafra I doubt a southern nigeria would happen. I think the best think to do is the southernes go their own ways as well. It'll help preserve our culture, traditions, and languages as well. We can always trade between nations.
@ Ola edo, I commend you for being so constructive ,  but I rely on my instincts here, I believe that the US and UN would have to sanction our seccession. I believe that they will not want to sanction complete fragmentation. If the South truly want complete fragmentation, then we might have to settle for a 2 stepped approach as opposed to demanding an 'either, or' scenario.

If it is fragmentation that is truly desired after the initial seccession of the Southern part, then there is no reason why we can't agree to do so amicably so far as there are rules about the minorities deciding for themselves. For instance, the Ijaws might not want to join Biafra,

I mean the European colonizing powers collaborated to split us and form these imperfect nations but we the indigenes cannot collaborate to form our living space ,  there is something really wrong  with this picture ,  and I hate it

You all had your chance.

Now that you dug your own grave. Now lie in it.

The Christian people of Jos, had no problem slaughtering Igbos as they tried to flee the North during the Pogroms. Why should I be worried with their plight now?

Let Gowon's people suffer for his arrogance.

Who is narcissistic when my lost so many lives for a dream, and you want us to join those who prevented that dream? Screw you and your little Southern federation!

I CAN EQUIVOCALLY SAY I SPEAK ON BEHALF OF ALL IGBOS ON THIS ISSUE!
@ Kalu A, that's my point, you only really speak for yourself.

This NairaLand board is strewn across with threads about how Igbo's are being killed in Jos.
I am being positive here and suggesting we do something about this and all you can do is abuse.

Why don't you post exactly what you commented here on all those threads. Wow, not only are you narcissistic,
you're reasoning is also atavistic , it's clouding your judgement and your ability to reason, unless
you're just trolling , your reasoning ties whole polities to the deeds of single actors, thats
a redundant mode of thought ,

Ola edo:
You don't think that a north-south split would just be done to lead off into one part of the south separating from the other?
@ Ola Edo, you have a very valid point, but I seriously do not believe so because the South will be able to implement
True Federalism, and when we start to build our wealth people would act accordingly, because they will have a genuine stake
in the polity.

Moreover, Igbo people are capitalists through and through, this is their main trait, they love trade which is great, so do you
really think that the majority of their populace would want to curtail, restrict, or confine their trading activities to the eastern part
of Nigeriahuh??

I don't think so

once agin tribalism is for the primitive.
