PoliticsRe: Akunyili Gives Agf Aondoakaa Seven Days To Recant statement or face court action by sirt1(m): 10:28am On Feb 10, 2010
Pifa:
If Dora Akunyili was offended by the AG’s comments, she can sue in court for defamation, although I think she has little chance of winning. To win a defamation case, she will have to show that she was materially injured by the AG’s comments (this is US Defamation and Libel Law, but I don’t believe it will be much different in Nigeria). The injury can be to her reputation, or in form of job loss, job denied or mental anguish, but not to her vanity or ego. The mental-injury argument may work for a lay person who was defamed, slandered or libeled by an authority such as the AG. But it will be a tough sell for a public official who, the court will say, should be accustomed to public criticisms of her person and her work.

The AG was expressing an opinion – opinion is a recognized defense in defamation cases – which could be construed as insensitive, sexist, crude or crass, but nevertheless insufficient to establish defamation in court. A public figure such as Akunyili may also be required to show that the AG’s comments were made with malice and intent to defame. Defamation cases brought by government officials are difficult to win because of the requirement to show actual malice. And because Nigerian has freedom of speech enshrined in its constitution, Akunyili will effectively be asking the court to gag the AG from voicing his opinion about her that she may not like.

If the AG had falsely accused Ms. Akunyili of falsifying her academic qualifications, for example, that would be making a statement of fact rather than an opinion and would be sufficient to establish defamation or libel. The material injury in this case would be to her reputation.

The Information Minister is doing nothing more than the civilian equivalent of saber rattling. There is nothing she can do about Aondoakaa’s unflattering comments about her other than complain to their boss.
Are u a barrister? just curious about ur post. It makes sense though.

I doubt the story.

If the story was anything to go by, what did she do to Jimoh knowing fully well that He was responsible for her husband's death? Wonders they say, shall never end.

But I still doubt the authenticity of the story. It looks more like Nollywood films without any meaningful thing to grasp

Relationship is about GIVE and TAKE. In a relationship, we all claimed to love each other especially, when the going is good. We always claim that we can do anything for love.

In reality, can u go extra miles for your partner's sake. Can u risk ur life for Him/Her?

If Yes, what can make u do that and under what circumstance?

If u av done it in the past, can u pls share ur experience with us. Did He/She appreciates ur effort

If NO, why?

Pls, candid opinions needed.

Thanks.

RomanceRe: Is It Proper For My Girlfriend To Sleep In A Guys House? by sirt1(m): 2:18pm On Feb 08, 2010
Wonder they say, shall not end. See ladies talking as if they can take such rubbish from their b/f. Even, if theirs
(Ladies )are understandable, what about guys that should know better. U all disappointed me.

I recall my experience during my service year. The first lady I dated was an Ibo girl and she was telling me she had no relationship at that time. I remember the day I talked to her after a CDS, she was crying that her b/f cheated on her while she was still an undergraduate and she doesn't want to enter into another relationship cos of past experience. After little pressure she agreed and the relationship started. Could u believe that this lady had serious relationship in Lagos and had even sent one of the female corpers to the guy in Lagos may be to collect something for her or something like that. Though, all this happened b4 I got to the place ( She was a batch B, while I was a batch A )

When I got the gist, I called her and she denied and was telling me that they ( other female corpers ) were jealous of her ( cos we were talk of the town then )

When I got to know her true picture, trust Male Corpers, I f**k hell outa her life.

When Batch B left, new batch B were posted and I also found my way to get another pretty chick ( trust me now, Lagos Boy ) This lady was caring and will do anything for me. But do u know what, she was not to be trusted based on some certain issues. One day, I was with her on bed, after some rounds, and my g/f called from Lagos. After the conversation, she said " LOVE U" and I replied. My corper g/f was not comfortable with that and she asked who she was. What do u expect from me, I quickly lied that she was my Twin sister from America and that we always end our conversation like that. Do u know it culd be the other way round?

What am i driving at, corpers are not to be trusted. Both female and male. They are all and the same. I was not the only person that experienced what I told u. Can I say, the behaviour was peculiar to Igbo ladies ( all my g/f during service year were from the east ), HELL NO. Even the yorubas are not spared. Enough experience. Service year na Bleep year.

@ Poster

Based on the scenario above, pick one or two things together and draw ur conclusion.
RomanceRe: Is House Of God The Best Place To Find Wife/husband. by sirt1(op): 2:33pm On Feb 04, 2010
Thanks for the responses from you all.

But I noticed majority of us did not favour House of God as the best place to get good wife/husband.

Why is this so? I believed House of God is a refuge where pple can get solace and be at peace. Does it means we don't have homely sisters/brothers in this place? Or may I be pardoned to say we are all pretenders?

Still expecting more diverse opinion with genuine reasons as back-up. If I may asked, u may share ur personal experience with us. We are all learning.

Thanks.

Sequel to the happenings in our environment and coupled with the fact that we all look up to a peaceful marital home in future. Where exactly is the best place to meet ones wife or husband. Is it the house of God or elsewhere? Why do u think God's house is the best place and otherwise?

Please, I need mature responses from mature minds.

Christianity EtcRe: Pastor Bimbo Odukoya Is In Hell? by sirt1(m): 11:03am On Dec 07, 2009
@ Naijacutee,

What is my point? My point is that Biblical doctrine tells us that when people die, they don't get sent anywhere just yet. Their spirits "sleep" (like Lazarus' when Jesus went to raise him) until the last day when like the Bible says "The dead in Christ will rise first". (If they had been sent to heaven, why then would they rise again?)

If ur reference above is anything to go by, what then happen to the rich man and the poor man----Lazarus. Pls study ur bible very well.

As per whether Pastor Bimbo is in hell or heaven, I don't think I av any problem with that. Though, I'm not saying she is in hell, but one point I wanted to make clear is that anybody can be/go to hell irrespective of who the person is/was. Our God is not a respecter of anybody.

If u like call urself Bishop, Imam, Prophet, Reverend and what av u. If ur deeds b4 God are not worthy of heaven, ofcourse u know the next available option-----HELL!!!!!

My point is that, we should not defend her. If her deeds were worthy of heaven, God knows and if otherwise, God knows too. Leave everything as it were now and work for your own salvation now----tomorrow may be too late.

EducationRe: Dumped Because She Had A 3rd Class by sirt1(m): 6:26pm On Nov 16, 2009
I think everyone has right to choose whatsoever he wants. I'm not supporting the guy, but he surely has right to choose his life partner. As many ladies here wuld prefer wealthy guys to "God go do am" ones, so also guys has right not to marry dullard.

Ladies should be very careful in their studies as no man is ready to marry a liability as a wife. Guys can date anybody whether dullard, Aristos or what av u? But when it comes to marriage, guys tend to choose wisely. For me, I will never marry anybody with a bad grade as 3rd class. If u are still having one thing or another against the guy in question, take a stroll to labour market and see what it takes to get a good.

Though, some might be lucky to get job with such a grade, but surely, not everybody will do. Also, I need to point out here that there are some exceptional cases where some pple had 3rd class and they still make it in life. But the question is that, how many of them succeed in their various careers?

Any one that can not made at least 2.2 is not worth calling a graduate. He or she should retrace his steps and make amendment if it is not too late.
RomanceRe: Would You Travel Abroad With Your Newly Wedded Bride? by sirt1(m): 1:30pm On Oct 29, 2009
It think it is natural with women-----they are self centered. They wanted to eat their cake and still have it. They wanted to be treated like a woman when it comes to responsibilities like paying house rent, clothing, and any financial obligation. Then, they will remember the bible verse that says " men that can not provide for their families are worse than an infidel and blah blah blah. But when it comes to their turn to obey what the same bible they are quoting say about submission, they will change to another verse which says "wife are help mate" and not slave.

Now, my question---- what exactly is the position of men in marriage? Pls, answers needed.

So it is sent to Nigeria  and the Nigerians in turn return certain percentage to them in their countries
Helping the fraudsters to carry out their stupid act? You must be stupid for that comment.

dtw_sola:
You people are getting all excited over a story posted on some blog, by another Nigerian for that matter. Quite an overreaction. I think the whole 419 thing is overblown these days. Most of the high level internet scamming that is successful these days is coming from Eastern Europe (esp Russia) , as well as China. This scamming is carried out by 'well educated' individuals finding vulnerabilities and hacking into computer networks for banks, government organizations, and other institutions. Our local 'yahoo' boys that are still sending out communications in poorly written English and hoping for bait are not finding much success in the scamming business anymore. I don't think that we're even close to being the number one scamming nation on earth. Nobody sees a Russian and automatically thinks he/she must be a scammer. Nigerians should not have to deal with these negative stereotypes, especially given the facts.
I seem not to understand your point. Are u saying Nigerians are saint? Are your point was that yahoo boys doesn't exist in Nigeria? My friend, u need to visit our higher institutions and see how small boys are parading cars they can not take home. Where do u think they got the money from? It is basically from yahoo yahoo thing and may be at times from YAHOO PLUS!!!!!

Pls, lets call a spade by its name. Nigerians are corrupt------not everybody sha oooo

When you decide to go into politics in Nigeria, you should expect the unexpected.

Meldrick:
It is normal. People who seek you downfall will do anything. Why didn't they expose this all the while but because he has stated his ambition to run for the governorship position, his enemies are fabricating stories.

Well like someone said, Soludo welcome to the world of politics
Well I believe nobody is witch hunting Soludo. If u want to join politics, check urself very well and be sure u are free from any atrocity. Let me start with this story. A man in my town wanted to contest for councillorship position. When the race started, he was the favourite among other contestants. But along the line, some of the opponent came out with some facts that nobody knew anything about concerning the man in question.

As a politician, his supporters said all what were revealed concerning the man were not true. Trust my people, the opponents went as far as 30yrs back and came out with facts that the man was an ex-convict. To cut the story short, the man was convicted in Ibadan for raping and that stoped the man from contesting for any political office. Was the man witch hunted? Definitely NO!!!!!

Now, anything done to Soludo now is not witch hunting. And come to think of it, it was the Austrialian Govt that brought out this case and not Nigeria.

I'm not saying Soludo is guilty, but let him come out to defend himself or else what pple were saying might be true.

@ all critics,

My intention is not to attack anybody, but rather to call ur attention to some points.

1) Did Daddy GO applied or lobbied for a chance to preach or pray at UN prayer meeting?

2) Should he reject the invitation by UN to pray for the peace of the world?

3) Can any one tell me the number of prominent pastors we have in the world before he was singled out for such task?

4) Can any one tell me at any point in time Daddy G.O was appointed into any political office?

5) When did it become an offence to honour a clarion call?

6) Was there at any time that Adeboye embezzled public fund?

If you all prefer to blame Adeboye for whatever reasons you have, What do u think should be done to our leaders that were saddle with the responsibilities of providing social amenities, security, infrastructure, and so on?

What will you/are you saying of Politicians that are wasting our resources daily?

What do you think should done to our Leaders entrusted with our utmost trust to manage our God-given resources, but failed us?

What would you say of our past leaders from colonial masters to military men and to present democrats?

The list is endless, but will stop here for people to ponder on for a while.

As for the Lady who claimed to be a worker of the Church and still went ahead TO SPEAK BLASPHEMY AGAINST THE G.O, I pray God will forgive you.
