People could actually be presumed dead when in actual fact they are not. Case of respiratory arrest, cardiac arrest, severe hypothermia, catalepsy, locked in syndrome, anaesthetic effect, barbiturate/drug overdose can all mimick death.

It's possible some of this people had one of this condition and eventually came around. It could also be they were actually dead - brain stem dead, and miraculous came back alive.
