I think your guy needs to understand the fact that he is the one to marry you and not his siblings, secondly he can't change your nature, that is who you are. I need to ask if the so call siblings call you often and check on you as well? There are good qualities he needs to look out for in you than all these minor things he is talking about. What if you are relating with them now and after marriage you started showing them attitude whenever they visit? It will be tough to manage that, if there is no food stuff at home, by the time you buy food stuffs and prepare soup there won't be anything left. If possible let him buy things in bulk in major food market for a month then give you upkeep. That may help a bit. Things are very expensive now.

I believe it is because most fathers doesn't create time to bond with their children. I so much loved my dad, I wasn't close to my mum until I lost my dad, in fact she was so scared of telling me when my dad died because of the bond. I fell in love with my wife without knowing her true age, though something inside me told me she is older than the age claimed as a friend, the day I asked her out she came out with her real age, which makes her 4 years older than me. We got married years ago and blessed with kids and still enjoying our marriage till date. My conclusion is, age is a thing of the heart, it doesn't determine wealth, maturity, wisdom, knowledge not even death. It is just a number. Both of you should iron it out and clear your doubt about his statement.

I don't believe in a forced marriage, marriage is something you need to consider very well before entering it. You don't get married to someone because pregnancy is involved, it is your personal life and that of your partner, your happiness comes first as couple before that of your parents. I was once in your shoe, I got involved with a lady and she was pregnant, someone advised her to abort it which I kicked against, I went to her parent to claim ownership of the pregnancy and promised to be responsible for her till delivery and take care of the child, the father is a pastor like yours too, he insisted on marriage to cover his shame, I told him that will not be possible because if I am not happy in the marriage I might end up hating the so call baby that made me to marry the mum. He wasn't cool about it, he called my brother and every member of the family got to know, we went their and he still insisted on marrying the daughter, my family asked if I wanted that I said no, because I have someone I wanted to marry. At the end my family said they can't force me, the man said if I was not going to marry the daughter I should forget about the baby which the daughter too supported. That was the end of it all. Your happiness and that of your wife comes first in marriage, not that of your parent, you don't correct a mistake by making another mistake my brother, ask God for forgiveness and grace to love your wife instead of sleeping around after marriage.

Hmmmmm, this is a serious one, I appreciate your feelings bro. First of all, is her parents alive? Are they responsible parents that understand what marriage is? If yes to these 2 questions I think you might need to get them involved. If not, look for someone she respect very well that can tell her the truth and counsel her. I have a similar experience but not as bad as this, my parent in-law have not been helpful though but there is this person that my wife respect that spoke to her and I noticed a little change. I also believe in power of prayer as well with patience. Lastly, please try never to let her get you angry to the point of beating her again. May God bless your home.

I have read series of argument on nairaland and other forums but it still baffled me why many children considered mother first before thier father. I'm a young lady too, I have feelings for my mom but my dad always been thier without any excuse.
mom is more important from birth till you go to school. After that it is the father who takes care of your education, guides you in your career. At least in my case this is true because my mom was uneducated. My dad teaches us and guides all his children to succeed in life. Without my dad I will lose my path and fail in life. Therefore, In my case my father was a good man. My mom gave me life but my father taught me how to live.

This gives me hope as a father, my 2 girls bonds with me better than they do with their mum, though my little boy still show preference for his mum for now @ 3, I love my children and do play with them a lot. Thanks for sharing your experience to encourage people like us.
