TV/MoviesRe: What Are Your Top 5 Movies And Series Of All Time? by soojar(m): 4:35pm On Dec 30, 2020
If you are a comedy lover like me, for series go for

1. My name is Earl
2. Monk (watch out, people might think you are mad for laughing all by yourself when you just remember some scenes in that series)
3. Trial and Error (oh my God, just the mention of this is making me laugh right now). Just 2 seasons unfortunately
4. The good place

A lover of Action? for series
1. 24
2. Prison Break
3. Burn Notice
4. Chuck (Action/comedy)

A lover of Epic? for series
1. Game of thrones
2. Vikings
3. Spartacus

For drama? there are quite a lot here, but these few deserve mention
1. Ozark
2. Orange is the new black
3. Suits
4. How to get away with Murder
5. This is Us

For other genres, I will update later, make I go find something chop

ogbiwa:
Name the top 5 movies and top 5 series of all time that you've seen

Mine:

MOVIES

5 - The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King
The last battle between the humans ad th orcs is one of the most epic battle scenes of all time.

4 - The Rattlesnake
Surprising because I hardly watch Nollywood. But this Amaka Igwe's 95 or 96 classic is a legendary story (Ahanna, Peter, Adaugo etc)

3 - Black Hawk Down
My best war film of all time. Shows the gritty and not so heroic aspects of war fims. Same as Mel Gibson's We Were Soldiers and Tom Hank's Saving Private Ryan. Epics

2 - Troy
Achilles's "We are Lions" speech before the battle of Troy still leaves a lump in my throat whenever I watch it. As well as the death scene of prince Hector. I am still angry though that Paris and his lover get to survive after Troy was destroyed and everyone else died due to the stupidity they called love.

1 - Titanic
Everything about this movie intrigues me. Literally everything. From when the ship left Southampton, when Jack met Rose, that epic "My heart will go on" soundtrack against the backdrop of a ship on an endless ocean at night (tears). Even when old Rose threw the diamond into the black ocean and watched it sink to the bottom. Absolutely classic

Notable mentions:
Robo cop
Con air
12 years a slave
Air Force One (Harrison Ford)
Harriet
The notebook
Hotel Rwanda
Wedding party
The Mummy
Mr Bones
Black November
American sniper

SERIES

5 - Modern Family
My favorite characters
Jay Pritchett
Luke
Dylan grin
Phil
Gloria

4 - Strike Back
The only downside to this series is that Michael and Scott are virtually unkillable. They'll enter a house with 50 armed hostiles shooting at them yet all the bullets miraculously miss them, yet they kill the hostiles with only one shot each. But other than that this series keeps me glued. Micheal and Scott's bromance is the highlight of the entire series

3 - Two and a half men
Only up to season 8 though. After they removed Charlie it became a snorefest. Ashton Kutcher did not in anyway make up for Charlie's absence in my opinion. But the seasons with Charlie oh my God grin

2 - 24
What can I say. I have learnt A LOT about politics, cyber warfare, terrorism etc from this series.

1 - Game of thrones
Every single scene in Game of thrones is a classic. Every single scene. No other series does this for me. I have probably watched all seasons at least 3 times

Notable mentions:
How I met your mother
Friends
The Punisher
Orange county
Money heist

So that's mine. Let's have yours.

No, Buhari closed border claiming that it would boost local production.
Yes and No sir,

The border that was closed to boost local production is still closed. That is not turning Nigeria to dumping ground when Nigeria is not making anything from the import duties. Benin, Togo and even Ghana import things (especially Benin) into their country, collect all the import duties and ship it freely into Nigeria (the biggest market in Africa) claiming ECOWAS treaty (which by the way covers only goods and services produced within the ECOWAS countries). Tell me how many people are using cars in Benin for example? in fact, what is even the population of Benin? Do you know Benin is one of the largest importer of Rice and cars in the whole world? for which population? your guess is as good as mine.

The one that is opened now is the one that was closed to human movement and movement of other commodities not on the prohibited list.

Don't mix the two up

Don't mix it up. Closing of border was as a result of covid-19 which was not reopened when the air border was reopened earlier.

The banning of contraband plus embargo on importation of rice and others is what some of us hailed. Meanwhile, importation of rice and co is still banned, the border is not opened or that.

Don't get it mixed up.

Genius, what u have been doing all this while is called ARGUMENT. And you are still at it despite losing long ago
Really? I didn't know.

But it took you a while to respond, I thought you were trying to see how to answer question on your conversation with the dead. I guess you have given up and that now.

PoliteActivist:
Genius you initiated an argument against a long-standing tradition on a public forum without having the knowledge or mental power to win the argument. That's why you lost
Mr. genius, I don't do argument (well, maybe not with someone with a child's mentality looking for competition).

I either make a statement of fact (backed up by evidence), or a personal opinion in which is the case here. A so called genius who claims to know how or why a so called tradition is in existence is struggling to make sense when he knows it's beyond him. In that case what can I say other than 'happy frolicking with the dead bro'.
Foreign AffairsRe: Jerry Rawlings Dies Of COVID-19 Disease by soojar(m): 5:13pm On Nov 17, 2020
PoliteActivist:
My genius friend, here is what you said verbatim (not implied, said verbatim!); "the dead can't hear you". Prompting me to ask: "how do you know?". I never made any statement that prompts a "how do you know?". Neither did I imply any such statement. I simply said: "RIP is just tradition, not that they expect the dead to hear, and BTW how are you sure the dead can't hear?"
Get it? You've lost the argument. Now run along, genius!
Sorry, genius sir, No argument.

As I said a personal opinion, the dead can't hear you because they are obviously dumb which means they are most likely deaf as well hence I don't think greetings or wishes (tradition or not) should be directed to them. I guess I am within my right to question tradition.

If your tradition sir is speaking to the dead and they hear you, please go on, you are free too. Again no argument here
Foreign AffairsRe: Jerry Rawlings Dies Of COVID-19 Disease by soojar(m): 4:14pm On Nov 17, 2020
PoliteActivist:
Now we know you are a real genius because seems u can't read. I already told you, you opened yourself up to questioning because you MADE A DECLARATIVE STATEMENT!! I made no such statement and therefore NOT open to questioning! It is like say, we are arguing Buhari and you ask me "how do you know Buhari is dead?" when I never said Buhari was dead! Get it? Genius!
Mr. genius, I can see you can read, it's the comprehension I guess is your issue. I am not arguing with you. I made a post (personal opinion), you challenged, I answered you, I challenged you on your IMPLIED STATEMENT you couldn't answer (or is it that you don't know what an implied statement is), you chose to rather be jumping here and there.

Let me spell it out for you again, your statement "HOW ARE YOU SO SURE THE DEAD CAN'T HEAR YOU??" is an example of an implied statement. Based on that I ask "do you fellowship with the dead"?
Foreign AffairsRe: Jerry Rawlings Dies Of COVID-19 Disease by soojar(m): 3:20pm On Nov 17, 2020
PoliteActivist:
Genius, first look up what open forum means. Then look up what non sequitur means. You shouldn't post non sequiturs in an open forum. Anybody can challenge you, then if u can't defend it, you look stupid, as you are currently looking
.
Mr. Genius sir, I've checked them out, there is none of them that is saying anything about the question I asked you. I have answered your question on How? And you trying to play intelligent, I ask you, do you discuss with the dead? It's not that difficult a question to answer.

If you still choose not to after asking you about 4 times, instead you keep rambling around. I will take it as a yes and in that case I wish you happy fellowship with the dead.
Foreign AffairsRe: Jerry Rawlings Dies Of COVID-19 Disease by soojar(m): 1:37pm On Nov 17, 2020
PoliteActivist:
Genius you don't get it. YOU ARE THE ONE WHO MADE A DECLARATIVE STATEMENT - "dead people can't hear". That's your basis for criticizing people sayIng RIP. I never made any declarative statement. If, as u said, u r not sure of your declarative statement, THEN STOP TELLING PEOPLE WHAT TO DO BASED ON IT!!

QED
Mr Genius, you are right, I don't get it, If you don't speak to or hear from the dead how is it a problem to you? Did I enter your thread to tell you that? No. But because you want to show that you know, when you know you don't know you started huffing and puffing on what you have no knowledge of. Again I ask, do you speak with dead people? if you don't move on, if you do, continue.

comprendre?
Foreign AffairsRe: Jerry Rawlings Dies Of COVID-19 Disease by soojar(m): 10:53am On Nov 17, 2020
PoliteActivist:
Genius, below is definition of pedantic. It applies to you. I've told you to try to broaden your understanding about use of language. That's why u r tangled up in things like RIP.

You are the one saying people should not say RIP because the dead cannot hear, begging the question, HOW DO YOU KNOW?? Answer that question.
Ok sir, genius.

Pedantic? that's quite a big word to describe me. I never knew I am that detailed. Maybe that's why I could notice every detail in how you are so much struggling to show you know what you actually know nothing about.

You asked me how am I sure the dead cannot hear, I told you I don't know. I based my assumption on the fact that since the dead stay dumb despite all the greetings and talking you and your likes have been making to them, it might be safe to assume they are deaf as well.

Now back to you genius, do you speak to and hear from the dead? Yes or No. Trust me I won't ask you to give me explanation on how, (if your answer is yes), I might only say you should please go on and be saying good morning to the dead. While at it, don't forget to ask them how they are doing, and what we need to do or prepare to take along when it's our own turn to go, so we can have a good time there.
Foreign AffairsRe: Jerry Rawlings Dies Of COVID-19 Disease by soojar(m): 12:30am On Nov 17, 2020
Nitpicking? sorry, you are the one that got yourself into the wrong thread and picked on the wrong person.

You didnt say anything about the 'genius' , it looks like its a new word you just learnt, practicing the use of it on me. Im glad to be of assistance to you, don't thank me.

you still did not answer your own question, Do you hear from the dead or speak to them? yes or no

Also as I recommended, consult brighter grammar to brush up on your English language. "Genius" grin

PoliteActivist:
Try to have a comprehensive knowledge of use of language otherwise you'd always go nitpicking as you are doing here, and making a fool of yourself.

Genius, if you have no way of being sure if dead people hear or not then don't go telling people not to say RIP because the dead can't hear. In other words stop being a smart ass about something you don't know. A long-standing tradition that hurts no one. Keep your smartassism to yourself!

I can see u r really a genius. My man, "If you want a man and you are a beautiful young lady..." is in the same vein as "If you say sai baba will Bubu reply you?". In both cases "one" is implied. In the first case it doesn't mean you personally are a beautiful young lady, in the second case it doesn't mean you personally say "sai baba"!

"How are you sure...?" is a question. Answer it.
Free English lesson is over for today, go to google or brighter grammar for more information.

As I said in my write up you barged into, as a personal opinion, the dead stay dumb.
I think you that have a point to proof about someone's personal opinion should be in the best position to answer that.

'Genius', is that a new word? grin
Foreign AffairsRe: Jerry Rawlings Dies Of COVID-19 Disease by soojar(m): 3:15pm On Nov 16, 2020
PoliteActivist:
See funny guy, trying to pull a wool. I always asked, "HOW ARE YOU SURE the dead can't hear us?". That's all and u know it.

As for "you", genius, "one" is implied. That's how language works. I think that's at the root of everything - you don't have a broad view of how language works. That explains your problem with RIP. If I say "If you want a man and you are a beautiful young lady..." It doesn't mean you are a beautiful young lady. THAT'S HOW LANGUAGE WORKS!
Back to the English language class again sir, as I said, in the contest where you used "you", "one" is the appropriate word, since you said you are not referring to second person but a third person.

"If you want a man and you are a beautiful young lady... I can see your limited understanding of the English language. The example of the statement you put here is still talking about second person singular (in which case "you" is appropriate), because whoever is reading what you wrote at that time is the second person you are referring to. Unlike "one" (third person), it means you are talking to a second person but referring to another person. Don't worry, you don't need to pay me for that, I do free tutorials on Mondays grin

back to your ability to communicate with the dead. you wrote "HOW ARE YOU SURE the dead can't hear us?" what do you mean by that? my English comprehension is a bit below that level, kindly explain, are you saying the dead can hear you or they cannot?
Foreign AffairsRe: Jerry Rawlings Dies Of COVID-19 Disease by soojar(m): 10:52am On Nov 16, 2020
PoliteActivist:
Genius, "you" here doesn't have to mean you personally. It is just illustrating so many things people say and don't get replied. You don't complain of any of them except RIP.
Yes, someone in the throes of grief is free to say things like "why did you leave me?" which can be viewed as talking to himself, without someone like you rushing to tell them the dead can't hear them
Alright bros. But a bit of diversion and English language tutorial here. "one" is the better word to use if the bolded is what you meant to say. "one" is third person singular pronoun, "you" on the other hand is second person singular and should be avoided if you are not referring to me.

Back to the topic, I thought you said the dead hear you when you speak to them, are you changing your statement on that or what?

Enjoy your day.
Foreign AffairsRe: Jerry Rawlings Dies Of COVID-19 Disease by soojar(m): 8:28pm On Nov 15, 2020
PoliteActivist:
If the basis is reply, do u pray? I bet u do. What's God's reply to you?? When you say "Sai baba", what does Bubu reply to you?? Like RIP, you are saying it for yourself and people around, not for Buhari to hear and reply you. BESIDES, how are you sure the dead don't hear us??
So, any way you look at it, YOU LOSE!
I'm not competing with you sir, so no room for loss here.

Again I'm sorry that you committed fallacy of unwarranted assumption, hasty generalization, I don't say "sai baba" and I never told you I pray either.

Back to the topic, so, according to you, the dead hear you but they can't reply and you also said you are talking to yourself (small small sha o, make people no call am another thing grin) Case closed then.

Have a good night.
Foreign AffairsRe: Jerry Rawlings Dies Of COVID-19 Disease by soojar(m): 4:49pm On Nov 15, 2020
PoliteActivist:
YOU missed it. What u r are saying is for the living, yourself included, not for the dead. Besides - and this is where you lose the argument and should henceforth shut up - HOW ARE YOU SO SURE THE DEAD CAN'T HEAR YOU??
You can actually do the shutting up if I don't sir.

I got your point now, so you talk to the dead? interesting. Anyway, I don't speak to the dead so I wouldn't know.

Since you do, whats their reply whe you tell them to RIP grin
Foreign AffairsRe: Jerry Rawlings Dies Of COVID-19 Disease by soojar(m): 12:36am On Nov 15, 2020
PoliteActivist:
Your opinion begs for exactly the comment I gave you. You keep such opinions to yourself if you can't deal with those comments. It is like if you see someone say "good morning" and you start asking what exactly makes it a good morning! You see someone say RIP and, of all things, you go : "Why are you saying RIP, he can't hear you!" As if even if he can hear that will make him RIP!!
As I said sir, If you talk to the dead please go ahead. If you follow bandwagon go on, But if you don't have explanation to what someone else has as an opinion but you keep talking here and there to try and make meaning of what you know nothing about, I will advise you to rest.

In case you don't want to rest though, let me poke you a bit more. @the bolded, at least I can reply, whether in the negative or positive. Your RIP is directed to the wrong person, the dead can't hear you bro! That it is the tradition doesn't mean it's appropriate (by my opinion). And if you are not okay with that, well, you can wake up in the money and be greeting goats and dogs around your area good morning and make it your own tradition.

You also missed a line there, if the person can hear you, he can actually adjust himself to RIP if he didn't plan to before then. The fact is that he can't hear you, whatever you say to him is useless, say whatever you have to say to the living rather, they are the ones that need it.
Foreign AffairsRe: Jerry Rawlings Dies Of COVID-19 Disease by soojar(m): 6:03pm On Nov 14, 2020
PoliteActivist:
My friend you miss the point - IT IS NOT EVERYTHING YOU ANALYZE! If a woman is asking her dead husband why he left her, u don't go there and be a genius. Same thing if she's telling him to RIP. Other examples u gave are hurting people, otherwise they would be left alone.
If u say it's just a personal opinion, then keep it to yourself!
Sir, I expressed my opinion, you barged into my comment, If you have no tenable explanation to what I opined, you could just read and move on. Believe me, it wont make you a dunce because most people don't have explanation too, apart from those that claim the dead can hear them (another belief/tradition of some people that doesn't make sense )
Foreign AffairsRe: Jerry Rawlings Dies Of COVID-19 Disease by soojar(m): 8:13am On Nov 14, 2020
PoliteActivist:
So why don't you first analyze it before u answer? Because it is merely a greeting, merely tradition. Same way saying RIP about a dead person is tradition, a word of condolence. It is not something you analyze
I actually analyzed it that the person is wishing me a good morning and I say 'thank you'. But telling the dead to RIP is what I'm asking about.

Guy I know it's your tradition, I'm saying critically looking at it, it makes no sense. It's some people's tradition to:

1. disfigure their children face in the name of tribal mark
2. classify some people as 'osu' and some as not
3. FGM is another known tradition
etc.

To some people its tradition, to some people it makes zero sense.

I am saying as a matter of personal opinion, it does not make sense greeting the dead or telling him/her to rest in peace. He/she can neither hear you nor can your wish for him change the fortune. Your condolence or greeting or sympathy should be directed to the ones still living, most especially the immediate family members who just had a loss.

Thank you.

Same thing u say when someone says "good morning". It is a greeting. It is tradition. You don't start analyzing it: "What do u mean by good morning, it has been raining since 5am, look at this traffic!.."
