You guys are right. He came through a big client of mine and wanted me to go for inspection with him. I told him that I dont have the time for such. He pleaded and I turned off my phone. Two days later he called asking for sooperrescue. He realised that I was the same guy that was rude to him and knew that I always go for my radio program every tuesday, so he asked for a 30mins inspection before my radio program and we agreed for 20k. I got to VI and spent hours waiting for battery, fuel and even engine oil before I had to scan and told him to go ahead with the purchase. He asked for my acct details and I gave it to him with the trust that he is a man of means and a friend to my client who is a director in a bank. He sent me 10klater in the evening telling me that I did not do much. On the day I drove him away, he told me that He is a retired Airforce officer and that he can do something to my business. I closed his bonnet and told him that the Airforce belongs to Nigeria and not to him, and that even in the next life, he can do nothing. Na so he run comot go tell his friend who now asked me what transpired between us. There are days we meet such people and we thank God for bringing them to us to make us strong.
Op, please buy bobozi come for me. I need to celebrate the boost wey you carry go village. Hope Customs nor misbehave on the road?

I'll be home soon. My site is up at TobiMotors.Com though my offerings are limited by design until I am in Nigeria full time. It's a different concept.

1) If I feel that I can't satisfy the customer then I won't take the job.

2) Customer service is job number one.

3) It will not be cheap but there are Nigerians that will value good customer service and "Fix It Once" Repairs.

Buhari/Atiku/Obasanjo can't fix Nigeria, they are just one person. It is the cumulative effort of average Nigerians that will turn the tide. It may not be in my lifetime but it will happen.

I would never in a million years post the name of a client online. Even if I wanted to my fingers won't agree grin
Easier said than done. A customer that I once had, bought a Range Rover Sport for 8.8m. I went with him for the inspection and spent 3 hours in V.I for 10k. I was glad to have escaped from him but he bought the car andhe will bring oil and will want me to charge 8k for labour. He will say that is all he has. Ok customer service but when you see how he controls everyone during the service, I begged him to please go to where he can give orders. For this matter, it is difficult to decipher the damages made to the car by previous users. Op, since your car is in order, leave matter and enjoy your ride. Nor be only one man dey raise pikin for Africa. If Mayor did not go through those processes, the right outcome would not have been achieved. Because he did not achieve the final result does not mean that he did nothing. The excessive fuel consumption has stopped and you should also give him that credit. All that you claimed was done by the 17 yr experienced rewire was to go and get the right alternator. Our parts market that is dependent on refurbished parts, is that one a determining factor? Lets close the matter and move on. That was how I was once accused of scamming a guy of 65k in his Hyundai SUV. Since then... I like taking a long walk from such issues.

@ Op

Sorry for the engine oil mix up I posted above, it is actually 5 w 30 for the BMW. I actually purchased a synthetic oil from Mobil filling station close to the toll gate.

My question , is it safe to use local synthetic oil adjudged having low quality for my car or better order online to save my engine.

Thanks in advance
Did bmw recommend 5w30 for x3? If not, go for the Castrol that was recommended and yes get them from the US.
Car TalkRe: Total, Forte, Conoil, oando, Mobil1 And MRS Synthetics Oils by sooperrescue(op): 5:07pm On Apr 23, 2018
There is no issue here bros. It is the way you introduced Eterna's Castrol, that it suits your car;s requirement and that it was made in EU. A south Afican based oil that Eterna claimed to be made in EU. Tomorrow, they will label their blending plant to be in EU. Their focus in that plant at Shagamu is 20w50 because many motorists are looking for cheaper means to run their cars. Like you rightly claimed, you have never seen an API SN that is Ilsac 4, so you should be concerned that Castrol does not have at that time any 5w30 that is full synthetic in Magnatec. The only full synthetic in Magnatec is 0w20 and 5w20

undecided

Not sure what you mean in some parts of your post but I'll take your points one by one...

You guess I was given the answer to the oil issue on the thread I referenced. Not at all. On that thread, some fellow who obviously didn't read the stuff I pasted was asking me if I had read my owners manual undecided and I didn't even bother to reply him. The issues are clearly stated there -in black and white from a Toyota vehicle owners manual. It is left to readers to come to a conclusion.

To answer your query about ACEA sequences - the labeling on the Castrol Magnatec I purchased is "ACEA A1/B1, A5/B5". I am very much aware that A1/B1 has been removed from the most recent ACEA oil sequences. To the best of my knowledge, A5/B5 is still in force. Only Eterna will be able to answer why they have both A1/B1 and A5/B5 on the label. On your other inquiry about any SN oil being ILSAC 4 - so far my checks online haven't revealed any other apart from the Castrol.

On your question "where is EU?", I am not sure what you mean...
Hmmmm. You said the oil was made in the EU. Forte oil also claimed that their oil was made in EU, after much pressure, they claimed it was in the Netherland. Oando also imports their synthetic from EU but from my findings, from Italy.. From the other thread matter, nurey answered you and so I waka comot.

The bottom line whether to use certain type of oil or not to.. We need to follow the manufacture reccomdation. The engine specific should either be in the car manual or on the oil cap.
The issue in Nigeria now just like everything else. How do you get the original oil to use ,and how do avoid buying fake or alter oil. You just have to do your research and look for people that import the original stuff. Buy from them and if you can buy extra and keep aside.. That is if you afford to do it.. But if you can afford to buy a 2m naira and above, should be able to buy the best oil for ur car
That is what I have been shouting about.
Nigerian used cars are buy at your own risk because of the poor maintenance culture

Please which ordinary or synthetic oil should i use for my bmw x3 drive 2012?

i use mobil 1 5 w 40

Therr is nothing like Mobil 1 5w40 but I will advise that you check the oil filler cap and then you will see Castrol written on it and your manual will tell you more.

I guess you were given the answer to this oil issue on that thread. Is Castrol magnatec an A1/B1 or A5/B5? Have you seen any Api SN that is ilsac 4? And when you said that it was made in the EU, I laughed. Where is EU? One day someone will produce a product and termed it made in Ecowas. You nor go run?
I dont see why we cant do anything about the poor choice of dealers. Boycott the dealer brand and those that sell the oil. Simple

I uploaded a scan of the Camry manual on this thread a while ago:

https://www.nairaland.com/4141005/need-type-mobile-oil-use#61921442

On this thread I have made just a couple of observations:

1. If indeed the labeling on Eterna's Castrol Magnatec is true, then it is adequate for my needs. It also meets A1/B1, A5/B5 standards.

2. As my uploaded scan will confirm, Toyota still allows the use of 20W/50 oil in its cars sold as recently as 2011/2012 . Whether they are right to do so is another argument entirely - if Toyota dealers and distributors here in Nigeria choose to sell cars of a spec different from US spec, there isn't much consumers can do is there?
Car TalkRe: Total, Forte, Conoil, oando, Mobil1 And MRS Synthetics Oils by sooperrescue(op): 7:15am On Apr 23, 2018
Maybe there is a conspiracy theory. If the car you sold said use 0w-20 in the car manual, the same manual you supplied when you sell the car and you are doing something else, well they need to do some enlightenment.

Except their mechanic and technician are living in the past in their past glories or they are intentionally doing it for profit purposes.
That has been my suspicion. I believe that they want the car to die quickly in order for the companies to buy more. When you look at it, 3 years on the road, the car is very old and looking wornout and then you see the same year from the US and everything is brand new. The need to sell the old stock fast might be the cause of this deceit because the bonded warehouse of Toyota Nigeria at Oregun is filled to capacity and unless the ones on the road fades away fast, no one will ask for more.

According to user manual, 2012 Toyota Corolla bought in Nigeria should use :

0w-20

You can use 5w-20 or 5w-30 if 0w-20 isn’t available.

But you need to change back to 0w-20 at your next oil change.
Thanks bros. You have nailed the big puzzle. So therein lies the big question. Why is Elizade using 20w50 API SL in their workshops for Toyota cars?
Car TalkRe: Total, Forte, Conoil, oando, Mobil1 And MRS Synthetics Oils by sooperrescue(op): 10:25pm On Apr 22, 2018
Please post that Toyota information here before I can concur. Like you stated concerning Eterna's Castrol, if they decide to source from South Africa, how does that help our auto industry? How many cars did Toyota sell every year? Is it up to 10000? Nigeria is 90% US specs and if we are bringing oil to sell in Nigeria, is it for SA market or US market? The manual that you are talking about is the modified one for Toyota Nigeria Limited. Check out the US spec and see if it is the same information that the two specs share. And also note that the Toyotas from Dubai and SA requires unleaded premium fuel. So two issues affecting other high compression cars is now taking shape with Toyotas. Fuel and oil. Wetin don pursue vw,bmw, rangerover, benz, acura, nissan away from our roads is now happening to Toyota.

The (5W 30) Magnatec sold by Eterna is rated SN & ILSAC 4. I bought yesterday. The label says the oil is made in the EU and is 'full synthetic'. The meaning of 'full synthetic' varies considerably and is the subject of many heated debates so I won't go into that now. If the API rating on this oil is indeed genuine then it should be adequate for my use.

Not all Camrys insist on 5W 20 or 0W 20 oils. Believe it or not, 2012 Camrys sold here actually permit the use of 20W 50 oils among others.
Hmmm. Believe them at your engine's peril. All the Castrol from the US caries the label Api sn and ilsac 5. According to ilsac, the number 5 supercedes number 4. If Api sn is current from 2010 and ilsac 5 too, where then is ilsac 4? Toyota from 2012 stated that 0w20 is an all weather oil and they placed 20w50 as the last in a worst case scenario. So you use the last choice instead of the first choice. An api sl?

I believe the expert on engine has reply you.. My own take is that anything made in Nigeria are made with low quality.. Quality control is not well enforce in the county... the Yankee stuff has more quality control and no company in Yankee wants to get sue.. Trust me people in the states are looking to sue companies for false advertisment or false claims ... that is the difference between Yankee and the ones sold in Nigeria.. It boils down to quality control.. Even the China made product coming into the USA are quality control... they enforce the basic standards of goods coming in ...
It is actually also as a result of poor standards. Standard organisation of Nigeria's minimum benchmark is Api sd and you will be shocked that there are api sd oils produced in Nigeria. That is where the problem lies.

For best understanding of Engine oil.
From your first post and this, it is obvious that you have gone into research to understand the dynamics. If the producers of noddles did not do their research very well, we will not have various brands competing for the attention of the children and adults alike. Likewise our oil companies. Api sj is still current. Honda baby boy requires that for their v6. But as far back as 2005, visco 2000 was being used both as engine and gear oil and it was 20w50. Did you ever hear AP giving out notices advising mechanics not to use the oil for their gearbox or even engines? Because a car that requires 5w20 sj as at 1999 should have better options to choose from. There was only sae 40 and 20w50 and Mobil 1 0w40 for all our cars then. That was why a lot of cars have gone into extinction. When Vw Bora and Passat were the inthing, which oil and fuel was available? 20w50 and Mobil 1 along with leaded fuel. Was the oil and fuel suitable for them? Not at all and so they disappeared from the road. The battle continues

Any difference between your stuff and the stuff sold by eterna in Nigeria? Things like API, ILSAC ratings?
There is. Eterna magnatec is api sm ilsac 4. That is the old but current oil. The new one direct from the US is Api sn ilsac 5. That is why I said these local oil companies dont like the motorists. Imagine Oando producing in 2018, 5w30, when the oldest car that requires 5w30 is 2009 range rovers and some Evoques. So when will they produce oil for 2009 Camry that requires 5w20 and 0w20? 15 year from now?

Use engine flush before putting fresh oil. Mobil 1 is now advanced full synthetic. Look for it on the label. I once had it on mine in 2008. If I put oil, once the engine oil circulates, it will cry out that too much oil. When it is cold, it will tell you that oil is low. So I flushed it and it was ok

I am an advocate of using the recommended oil. In some Nissans, recommended oil is a range, from your XW20 to XW50. Now for people on the W50s which is a mineral oil, they need to change their oils much more frequently than those guys on synthetic oils.

Clear now?
When I was operating a lubebay with Total, Q5000 was the number 1 oil for all cars and we put a service sticker for 3000miles or 3months. It was funny to note that the clients always rush down before the date on the sticker for engine oil change. Those that comes a week after get sludge in their engines. The guys from Maiduguri always come with oil treatment, that even with the thick oil, it boils in Borno. They claimed that no one uses synthetic in Borno, but the bottom line is that the oil boils in extreme temperature. The 20w50 is tested in Borno and it has failed to hold down the temperature of the engine. Using it on bigger engines is worse. Everyone thinks that all 20w50 are the same. The highest 20w50 oil that is locally produced is the MRS API SM. The current imported 20w50 is cepsa with API SN. There is a big difference with API SL and SN and the 20w50 is always the last option in most cars and that is what motorists choose as the first option. I have seen a lot of people using that oil on Range Rovers and they regret it till date
