Every other person in naija is accused of being a witch.

Nigerians are witchcraft sensitive.

Someone like Dr Reuben Abati should know when to reject a 'gift' , be it paid for, at a discount or whatever. That would ensure he remains blameless while doing his great work. It is true that everyone has a price. Prime plots in Abuja? Hmmmmmmmm.

Why would anyone maltreat anybody else be it a house help or otherwise?
I've never ascribed to beatings.What does it solve? I was always the one who would throw myself between mad-as-hell aunties and their housemaids who were about to get a whooping.
When a non privileged family gives you their child you should remember that you are that child's guardian and should treat that child like your own. The child shouldn't be first to wake up and last to go to bed. Feeding them scraps and burnt food is also unacceptable. taking them out to the fast food joint to stare while your kids dig into yummy snacks is also bad. Clothing them in rags and letting them sleep on the hard cold floor when there are spare beds all over the place is unkind. The thing about life is that no one knows tomorrow. Tomorrow always comes with its surprises and payback.

They are only returning to the standards they are used to. At least no taxes, no bills.

People are trooping back to naija because of the economic recession here in the U.S. On the other hand each time i visit nigeria (which is every year by the way!) the standard of living seems to be getting worse for everyone! Life is unbearable, Nepa is hopeless, streets are filthy. Twenty generators in the neighbourhood are on at the same time driving you insane. People just try to take everything you came back with, even your suitcases!  Its like a bad joke! Nigerians are a unique people. We have gotten so used to suffering that we dont know how other people live. Some will insist its not so bad. (probably the bankers and oil workers) but what about the vast majority that dont earn that kind of money. Ive considered returning to nigeria several times. I have no doubt in my mind that i will get a good job with a fantastic salary with the experience that i have but the living conditions are so bad. Even if you erect your own mansion, once you step out of your gates into the streets, you are at the mercy of a system that does not work. nigeria is still home for me. I love nigeria but something has got to give.
