Anyways, there are a million freedom you get when you stay alone that you can only dream of with parents. And this isn't about misbehaving, this is about the fact that you need to factor their presence into everything you do, including time to wake up.

If you're moving just in order to be free to do wateva u like, then I'd advice u stay with ur parents.
Its not really abt age. Have u had d required orientation from ur parents? Do u have a knowledge of wat u shud and shud neva do? Can u control and advice ursef?
Don't wait until u make mistakes before u learn. Some mistakes are too fatal and may lead to ugly situations.
Freedom alone shud not be d motivation behind it. It might come to haunt u if you're nt yet ready and prepared for it.

If parents have not rounded up their training by the age of 21 as far as I'm concerned, those parents have failed.

That's a luxury married people or people who live with parents cannot afford. My married friends (most especially with kid(s)) have remote controls


And as you said, it gives ample time to develop yourself. You can wake up at 2.00am to start baking with guidance from youtube, you can carry yourself on a saturday to head to music/dance class, after church on a Sunday, you fit head to the beach without somebody begging you to do Laundry or pound yam

When I took my common entrance examination, it was in a secondary school far from home, and I went to the school myself with other classmates. As a 15-year-old Class 4 student of Okongwu Memorial Grammar School, Nnewi, I received a letter from the West African Examinations Council that something was missing in my GCE form. I got my exeat card signed by the school, and for the first time in my life, I travelled to Enugu (and alone) to WAEC office, changing buses about five times. When I got to WAEC office, I was given my form to append my signature to a page. I travelled back again to my school. Also, when my UME result came out, I travelled to Nsukka for the first time to check the result and do my registration.

Wow, not only did my dad take me to the exam hall, he hung around the vicinity till I finished, lol.
I remember when I was 17, my mum had arranged for someone to take me to get my Nigerian passport. After we were done at the passport office, he said I should find my way back home. Me that don't even know where I was? Bloody hell I nearly freaked out. He had to take me back home o, lol.

I don't agree with the author's rationale that it's more common now to cage kids because the author just described my childhood and I am talking about the 80s, 90s . And no we did not have the kind of money to call ourselves ajebutter. I wont say it's a perfect way of training kids but it sure did shield me from the riff raffs on the streets.

If an adult- middle aged, elderly, whatever- ventures out of line, he must be checked. Age should not give anybody immunity.

And this is where I think we miss it. Respect should not be a one way street or dependent on age. Older people should also accord the youth respect. In societies like Nigeria, the old has too much power and that needs to be checked for the weak not to be trampled upon. I can understand standing for the aged to have your seat or helping them carry their bags, but the older people need to get a grip, come down their high horse and understand that in this century they will be challenged if they go out of line.

There are women and men out there that are ready to take advantage of well brought up children. Not all women are roses and peaches, not all men are gentlemen. Not all women should be respected because you respect womanhood, not all men either. There are more dysfunctional homes releasing these terrorists into society. We all need to be watchful.

As for the topic, I highly recommend carrying males along. Today we have a dichotomy where women have been empowered and the males are still in stuck mode expecting archaic ideals from women. Many males are still in 1900, yet to catch up with the jet age. Our generation can't be helped though. But we can start with the next generation.

In her defense, I probably might have taken a similar tone in describing a woman like the OP. I generally find it hard to disguise my disgust at women like the OP. So I think we should ltry to look at it from what she knows. How she was nurtured. In my world, woman like her are seen as non achieving and mentally lazy but in her world women like me are not even women. There are men who are okay with that just like there are men who wouldn't bring that home to their family. I'm sure if you had a brother and he brought a woman home that sounds like this the family might be taken aback. Imagine that the OP had a son who brought home a woman who sounds like you. The OP will start running from church to church to pray the woman out of her sons life
