PoliticsRe: What Is The Meaning Of “lagos?” by StOla:
feelgoodInc:
Lagos is not part of Western Nigeria in the Nigerian constitution, Lagos is a former capital of Nigeria and developed by Nigeria money, no tribe in Nigeria has wright to claim Lagos as it own, lagos is owned by Nigerians who invested in it, it is a NO MAN LAND for allNigerians been the former capital of Nigeria for decades. The only indigenous people in Lagos is the Aworis, Egun and Ijaw and rest are migrants. Abuja is been developed with Nigeria oil money now after former tribes living in it will come claim Abuja as their own and start threatening other Nigerians that have invested heavily in it to make it what is it to leave Abuja for them just like what some Yorubas is doing in Lagos. They want to reap where they did not sow.
There is no Ijaw that is native to Lagos or Lagos State.

Any Ijaw in Lagos is no different from a Kanuri or Igbo man in Lagos.

If any Ijaw man claims to be from Lagos or Lagos State, let him tell us the name of his Ijaw village that is situated in Lagos.

Awori - Lagos Island, parts of Badagry, Ikeja, Ijaiye-Ojokoro.
Egun - Badagry.
Ijebu - Epe, Ibeju Lekki, Ikorodu, colonial settlers on Lagos Island.
Egba - colonial settlers on Lagos Island, parts of Ijaiye-Ojokoro.
Returnee freed slaves (West indies/Sierra Leone) - colonial settlers on Lagos Island.
Returnee freed slaves (Brazil and Cuba) - colonial settlers on Lagos Island.
Eko nobility of Lagos - Lagos Island, Ikoyi, VI Oniru, Ijora.

Those that own Lagos have already claimed it, and with existing traditional and cultural institutions already well established and entrenched.

So your opinion about having rights to claim or not is already too late, and irrelevant.

Please create it this very minute and get swamped with hard facts as usual. I repeat, Igbos are better than yorubas in almost every good indices.
Igbos are good at catching up. Yorubas will always set standards for Africa, but while Igbos are attempting to catch-up as they are wont to do, we will be setting new frontiers for the next generation of Igbos to learn and catch up.

As regards indices, ever heard of the following industries and profession?

-Banking, Finance and Accounting
-Insurance
-Telecommunications
-Oil and Gas
-Law
-Manufacturing
-Medicine
-Engineering
-Politics
-Academia
-Theatre Arts
-Importation and Exportation as a business that was pioneered by Yoruba merchants who were returnees from Brazil and were trading between Lagos and the Americas continent at a time the Igbos were still learning how to letter their own language at the feet of Samuel Ajayi Crowther.

Who are the pioneers or the biggest investors in those sectors in Nigeria? Any Igbo achievement in those sectors is the result of catching up to a Yoruba standard that still keeps them beneath.

Name one notable or historic Igbo in those fields, and I will name a more notable and prehistoric Yoruba in that same field.

Name one industrious Igbo in those fields, and I will articulate with facts the conglomerate founded and run by a Yoruba in that same field.

I like what is happening in Anambra State. The politicians gave tacit support to Nnamdi KANU during his madness believing they can use him to negotiate with the federal government so as to fill their pockets the more. But Nnamdi have now turned against them(politics is their source of livelihood). But the truth remains, the politicians will soon unite to fight Nnamdi for trying to disrupt their source of livelihood and when they start, body go tell nnamdi and his boys. Against this background, I urge the federal government led by the Acting President to direct the military and para military to stand down and allow Anambra politicians to fight this war cos it's theirs to fight. Udo diri unu. lol
There is nothing else to add to your points.

It is the same way Northern politicians were hoping to use boko haram to negotiate more freebies from the federal government, so they let it grow rather than checkmate it when they still could, but it grew bigger and stealthier beyond their control.

Igbo bu Igbo Ndi Ihe Oma Na Eji Ama Nma Jide Nu Nke Unu Ji Na Nke Unu Ji Amaka.
The 2 motions for independence was by Anthony Enahoro which was unsuccessful and years later by Oluremi Fani Kayode which was successful.

Both were from the Western Region and were members of the Action Group led by Obafemi Awolowo.

The earliest political demands for self government came from the Lagos Youth Movement which later turned to the Nigerian Youth Movement.

Herbert Macaulay who founded NNDP in 1923 and NCNC was a Yoruba. JK Randle and Orisadipe Obasa of People's Union formed in 1908 were also Yorubas.

Atlas Oranto petroleum owned by Arthur Eze dwarfs all Yoruba owned oil exploration companies.. UJu Ifejika of Brittania U Nigeria and Ghana is the most powerful woman in oil and gas business in Africa.. Most of the companies Yoruba guys posted here like Gatwick Airport etc are multinational corporation in which a yoruba person has a significant share in them..They didn't start them from scratch... Just like the way Wale Tinubu is threatening Kachikwu to sell PH refinery to him without competitive bidding..What Yoruba people does is to lobby the government to sell National companies to them without properly following due process..
It sucks to be Afonja. Ugly tribe.
What is Brittania U and who is Uju Ifejika beside Folorunso Alakija of Famfa Oil and Agbami oilfield?

Who know Uju outside of her village? Does forbes know her like they know Folorunso Alakija?

You Igbos just brag like illitrates.

Imagine calling a nobody the most powerful woman in oil and gas business in Africa.

Who is Arthur Eze besides the likes of Wale Tinubu, Mike Adenuga, Otedola, Jimoh Ibrahim, in the African petroleum landscape?

PVision2020:
Please Educate yourself
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nigerian_Civil_War
The
AG insisted that Lagos, a Yoruba city which was
situated in Western Nigeria must be completely
recognised as a Yoruba town without any loss of
identity, control or autonomy by the Yoruba.
Contrary to this position, the NCNC was anxious
to declare Lagos, by virtue of it being the
"Federal Capital Territory" as "no man's land" - a
declaration which as could be expected angered
the AG which offered to help fund the
development of other territory in Nigeria as
"Federal Capital Territory" and then threatened
secession from Nigeria if it didn't get its way. The
threat of secession by the AG was tabled,
documented and recorded in numerous
constitutional conferences, including the
constitutional conference held in London in 1954
with the demand that a right of secession be
enshrined in the constitution of the emerging
Nigerian nation to allow any part of the
emergent nation to opt out of Nigeria, should
the need arise.(Author(s): Tekena N.
TamunoSource: The Journal of Modern African
Studies, Vol. 8, No. 4 (Dec., 1970), pp. 563–584
[41] )
This proposal for inclusion of right of
secession by the regions in independent Nigeria
by the AG was rejected and resisted by NCNC
which vehemently argued for a tightly bound
united/unitary structured nation because it
viewed the provision of a secession clause as
detrimental to the formation of a Unitary
Nigerian state. In the face of sustained
opposition by the NCNC delegates, later joined
by the NPC and backed by threats to view
maintenance of the inclusion of secession by the
AG as treasonable by the British, the AG was
forced to renounce its position of inclusion of
the right of secession a part of the Nigerian
constitution. It should be noted that, had such a
provision been made in the Nigerian
constitution, later events which led to the
Nigerian/Biafran civil war would have been
avoided. The pre-independence alliance between
the NCNC and the NPC against the aspirations of
the AG would later set the tone for political
governance of independent Nigeria by the
NCNC/NPC and lead to disaster in later years in
Nigeria.

BTW Why take 'EVANS' paracetamol for our headache, we said we want to remain in Nigeria. Nah by force to follow igbo commot. Can't you guys respect our decision
In addition to the above,

Nnamdi Azikiwe specifically stated that with the non-inclusion of a secession clause, any attempt by any of the regions to seperate from Nigeria will lead to war to keep the country inseperable.

Gowon would eventually carry out that order with the "wise" Igbos as the foolish casualties.

Today, they lament about a unitary government, but fail to realise that the Igbo Aguiyi Ironsi made the choice for them and for the rest of Nigeria.

An Igbo man only loves the system if he is in control of it, else the system is no longer desirable.

Why trying to nail someone who escaped from Nigeria during the end days of the sacked Jonathan regime on the same British Airways flight as the president elect Buhari and tried so hard to sit with him discuss with him in the plane? Did she ever return to Nigeria since the start of the Buhari regime?

What is incompetent about leaving a fugitive in the hands of the British who have already notified that they are investigating her and have already got her to appear at the police station?

Why create unnecessary high BP for the ethnic and religious warriors in Nigeria who lamented and protested that Dasuki should not be arrested, only to later complain that the Buhari government is only arresting Christians and Southerners? Can their emotional outburst prevent the British and Americans from dispensing justice?

ODVanguard:
Absolutely. That's the difference between an entrepreneur (Yoruba) and small business owners/traders (Igbos). Entrepreneurs are innovators -- they capture value by reinventing the wheel and seeking out more efficient/technology-friendly ways of doing business, while the average igbo spare-parts trader is still doing 'biznis' the same old way his 'oga' taught him, till they are rendered useless and obsolete or are kicked out of the business altogether.

A 24-year old Yoruba lad already blazed that trail last year by setting up an auto parts e-commerce retail startup, and he's doing great!

http://autofactorng.com/index.php

http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/06/meet-young-man-redefining-auto-parts-business-nigeria/

Same trend is noticeable in the English-sector of 'Nollywood' (which they errorneously claim to have pioneered). The highest grossing box office Nollywood cinema hits ever made have more Yoruba folks as directors than any other ethnicity - 'Wedding Party' (Kemi Adetiba) , '50' (Biyi Bandele), 'October First' (Kunle Afolayan), 'Half of a Yellow Sun' (Biyi Bandele), 'The CEO' (Kunle Afolayan), 'Isoken' (Jade Osiberu), 'Phone Swap' (Kunle Afolayan). The upcoming 'My wife and I', also directed by another Omo kaaro'jire -- Bunmi Ajakaiye.

Yoruba directors are redefining/giving the typical hitherto mediocre Nollywood a makeover by churning out quality movies.
True that.

I remember that Yoruba spare parts guy. It was even on Nairaland.

As for film making, how you sef go dey compare professionals with a long existing family name in the industry to our 2days production Igbo section of Nollywood?

Concerning my observation about business structure, one would have thought that with the Igbo business exploits in the spare-parts business, one major Igbo investor in the business would have considered a very serene retail outlet for spare parts as opposed to the chaos that is obtainable at Ladipo and other similar markets.

What I've noticed with Yoruba business in an industry where you have the Igbos making a lot of noise, is the modernity of business structure as oppossed to the chaotic alabaru style of their Igbo co-players.

Okotie Eboh had been stealing as labour minister even before independence. The British knew it and allowed it, ensuring he will be one of the major financiers of the NCNC as long as his influence will steer the NCNC towards supporting a post independent Nigeria led the Northern NPC.

He was even reputed to have sold a property belonging to the ministry before independence and pocketing the money. The British governor general invited him to a meeting and told him he should be more circumspect with his shady dealings, rather than prosecuting him.
