PoliticsRe: Wike Warns Julius Berger After Paying 80% Upfront For Road Contracts (Video) by sulaak(m): 9:16am On Jul 24, 2022
AmazingELixir:
In a runaway and inflation prone economy such as Nigeria's what Wike did by giving 80% is the most logical thing to do....unless ofcourse you want contractors to come back and ask for variation due to price changes.

Most contractors includes validity period of the quoted contracts sum, if it exceeds such period it gives them grounds to ask for contract review hence variation but paying upfront you corner and compel them to expeditiously execute the contract within the stipulated time frame, it is also pertinent to ensure strick supervision to ensure compliance in both quality and schedule. That's basic logic.

Most procurement laws actually doesn't encourage paying that much as initial milestone but exigencies compels.
You please the funds in an escrow account and pay for all material in advance

At least he is serious by giving 80 percent upfront. I know of many governors who will like to embark on similar projects on credit. They will then take the credit but owing the contractors until the end of their tenure they will then leave the liability for their successors to be battling with
In what world do you give 80% upfront to a contractor and expect serious results. Wike is useless and stupid

I can bet that there may be other white doctors who may have attended to the Ekweremadus in the process, but if by chance there is a Nigerian amongst them (even if he has lived and practiced in the UK all his life), they will find a way to single him out and rope him into the accusation. That's how they do.
You blame racism, instead of abuse of power, impunity and lack of laws to protect the poor against the poor.

In the UK you can't buy or sell human organs ...period the Nigerian doctor would have understood the ethics of being fair.

In many countries, sitting political do not have immunity and there are laws, especially in the UK called UWO where alleged criminals have to explain their wealth with evidence.

Unexplained Wealth Orders (UWOs) gives law enforcement an opportunity to confiscate criminal assets without ever having to prove that the property was obtained from criminal activity.

Just why do I have to lie for goodness sake. At least you should understand as an educated person what a smokescreen connote. Do you know in 2011 National Union Of Electricity Workers Engage In Prayer/Protest Over Barth Nnaji, against his nomination as minister of power. And Why? They knew a lot of rot will be uncovered, and when he was eventually nominated were those rot uncovered? The answer is yes, and straight way the problem of epileptic power supply was solved. So you can see their protest against his bid for Enugu Disco was nothing but a smokescreen to cover up for their earlier disapproval. And as for his bidding for Enugu Disco, sincerely that would have been the best way for Nigerians to enjoy a breakthrough in power supply. If a bidder who has the experience, equipment, goodwill and financial warchest to execute a project is disqualified on petrid ground such as this, are we better off now with those sets of successful bidder who eventually got the bid? Why are we like this as a nation, where the best of men with good knowledge and intentions are relegated while those who'll keep us in perpetual darkness are allowed to have their way. But thank God we are all groping in darkness together, since that's what we choose.
Have you heard of conflict of interest? The minister of power resources also wants to be an owner of a power plant and you think that it's okay.

Two million naira 3years ago was about $5,500. Today it is equivalent to approximately $3,200. Cost of living and inflation is rising in Nigeria. For most people that relocate, it's not always about the money but the quality of life and opportunities available there. People say we don't spend in foreign currency but as long as our economy is imports driven, we will always feel the effect of our weak naira one way or the other....For those in the diaspora who complain about bills and taxes, I always wonder why they have refused to come back sha.
He will probably make $3200 a week within two years in UK, I know of so many Nigeria youth working in IT earning that amount of money.

First thing a local cattle herder does with a sick cow is pray. If prayer fails he bleeds it, and if bleeding fails he calls a vet. If vet fails he calls a butcher who slaughters it and sells it for meat.

A dead sick cow is worth nothing while a butchered sick cow is bought cheap and sold in the market for full price. Unfortunately, buyers would be buying both the poison the vet fed it plus the poison the vet was trying to cure, which is why we Nigerians should consider buying our meat from university qualified ranch cattle rearers and butchers, instead of from illiterate cattle herders.

Unfortunately, Nigerians have not yet begun going to university to learn to rear cattle.
Yes, we have universities that deliver studies on cattle husbandry, my first degree was Animal Science at UI, although I transfer to Agriculture Engineering in the 2 years. Nigeria has more than 40 institutions that conduct studies on all forms of Agriculture.

For the record, I was in UI in the late 1980s

Has occurred to you that the government is sustaining the strike to avoid student protest. Nigeria's government has no interest in allowing students to return to university and; organise public protests such as EndSARS and the Sri Lanka protest.

The IBB and Abacha government closed down universities for close to two years to weaken the education system and avoid student protests.

*MODIFIED*

2,000,000 monthly grin

As at 2019, Nigeria had about 11,877 professors (though this include both those on private and public higher institutions).

That means; monthly, the government will pay 2,000,000 x 11,877 = 23,754,000,000. That's over twenty three billion naira monthly.

As at today, Nigeria produces about 1.2m BPD of crude oil (Our main source of income, excluding mineral resources from the north which I don't know why they don't mention it. Only God knows where that money is going to). Using the official exchange rate of about 414 naira/dollar,
If 1 barrel is about 93 dollars, this becomes 1,200,000 x 93$ = 111,600,000 per day

that's a total income of 111,600,000 x 414 = 46,202,400,000 (Nigeria's income from crude oil).

THEN; 46,202,400,000 x 30 days = 1,386,072,000,000. This is over 1.3 Trillion naira monthly.

Boy o boy, This country is making money.

SUMMARILY, THE GOVERNMENT CAN PAY ASUU COMFORTABLY.
Nigerian professors add more value than senators, the country must invest in education pay university lecturers and teacher well and you will see a return of investment.

The number of people working for government what's their population and what's their proportion to people with large families?

So, in your world, anyone with such a big family can only be 'looting'?
I will be wasting my time trying to educate you.

There are some very clear benefits to having a small family;

Each child receives more parental attention and educational advantages, which generally raise her self-esteem.
Children in small families, especially first and only children, tend to have higher school and personal achievement levels than do children of larger families.
The financial costs of maintaining a household are lower.
It is easier for both parents to combine careers with family life.
The general stress level is lower because there often are fewer conflicts and less rivalry.

I am not against Africa culture and tradition, he is free to marry as many as he wants and also having many children as he desires as long as he can take care of them, but not with the common wealth and resource of others. Nigerians are not there yet once we get there everybody will feel and even the politicians will sense it louder, for now we are not there yet especially the northern nigeria are still far away from liberation, that is why I laugh when people talk about Obi, if the elections is going to be conducted in the southern part and the Middle belt maybe an Obi can have a chance, but you see those illiterates in the core North are not ready and I am afraid they might not be ever ready, Osinbajo would have been the perfect person for now because he is ready to deal with those setting us back that explains why he took all the actions he took during his three months spell at the helms of affairs, the politicians don't like him but the masses do, and I am very sure Nigerians will still have a reason or two to ask for Osinbajo someday.
They cannot afford to look after their large family. I doubt he will have the time to do his job with that large family in tow, it now becoming obvious that the so-called African culture and traditions are the root cause of backwardness in Africa.

We witness the same issue in South Africa when President Zuma started implementing state capture to finance his large family.

I work in a building construction site as an engineer under this man as the main engineer. Last Saturday I went to work and on reaching site I sent him report of site. I stayed till afternoon and I was very hungry and coupled with the fact that there was no place to get something to eat at site, I decided to leave before closing time so that I can go home and eat since there is no serious work on site. He later came to site and called me and I told him that I am sorry I left because I was hungry. This morning I woke up to see his message that I should not come to the site again. I work like a labourer in that site for a salary of 50k without any other chance of getting money. See this life, the best thing is to invest in a business no matter how small and be your own boss. This I have tried for a one and half year of working with this man but how much can i save from 50k to start a business of my own leaving in this abuja that everything is expensive. This life no balance at all
I decided to leave before closing time so that I can go home and eat since there is no serious work on site.
