Nigerians protested in 2012 from subsidy removal because they know the money will not be utilized appropriately
The should have protested for accountability and oversight that the oil refineries should be first fixed and repair before the oil subsidies are remove.

Buhari and APC is just an extention of APC, 6 years in government, yet the refineries are still not working and the government has been lying to Nigerians that they have removed subsidies.

This is 2016:

Obasanjo had 8 years to make things right but he didn't, even road to Ota is a mess, he had an accident on Ibadan Lagos express road and proudly said the road wasn't that bad

Yar'Adua a perfect President (RIP) had just 7 point agenda and he wanted a sensible Vice President, like Donald Duke, but Baba forced clueless weak Jonathan on us because of his closeness to late Stella Obasanjo

The mess we are in is all the doing of Obasanjo and his 3rd term agenda, and later agenda of controlling Nigeria through a terminally sick man and a clueless guy

Of all the Northern educated folks, Obasanjo single handedly picked terminally sick Yar'Adua and jailed other qualified people with EFCC, of all the qualified intellectuals of Southern Nigeria he picked Jonathan, ... Obasanjo sat and watch Nigeria burn

.
OBJ wasn't great but he cleared our foreign debts, left $60 billions in reserves and $36 billion in the excess crude oil funds, the mobile phone industry was liberalised and banking industry was maturing.

Yes, he failed in the electricity distribution and generation, oil refineries and managing the privatisation of Nigeria assets , but Fulani herdsmen weren't roaming across the country with impunity, when OPC misbehaved he shut them down.

Tinubu hand picked the sick Buhari and look at the result today, a divided country that is now at war with itself. The Yoruba's have created Amotekun to protect themselves against marauding Fulani's herdsmen, what do you think will happen when armed Yoruba's operative clash with the Nigeria Army....anarchy.

They say they are not protesting because every reasonable mind knows it is the right thing to do, so why are you complaining? since you know they are soo corrupt why are you waiting for Labor to protest on your behalf?, why not grab your friends & start the protest from your own neighborhood?
It was the right thing to do in 2012 but they protested.

Right now, when million of Nigerians are facing starvation, unemployment and COVID-19, increasing oil price is actually the wrong thing to do.

The issue is, most graduates including the PhD holders are not creating jobs by solving problems. They just want to go to school, pass exams and 'look' for jobs.

Nigerian graduates should think of what they can do for Nigeria or humanity and not what Nigeria/humanity can do for them.
Going to school is solving the illiteracy problems in Nigeria.

This is another scam or corruption loading.Kyari & Sylva should perish that idea.If after promising 4 refineries in its first term but only apologized for failure to fulfill same.

El Rufai once recommended that the NNPC should be privatised but the corruption therein is so sweet.Atiku said same thing but myopic reason will not allow people to see the good side of it.Now after consuming chunk of Nigeria's resources, the moribund refineries are up for another corruption in the name of rehabilitation or TAM. So who is fooling who in this nation?

All the agitations for protests now should have been uncalled for if the APC allowed the subsidy of 2012 to be removed. Now, after COVID19 economic meltdown, they're now adding this burden. It's needful but the timing is bad.So kindly privatize & see how it goes.Enough!
I strongly agree that the refineries must be privatised but the last people to oversea privatisation is the crook Atiku and EL-Rufai, we are still recovering from their privatisation of the paper mill, Ajaoukuta and ALSCON to their corrupt friends.

A good step.

But, they also have to privatise NNPC , allow marketers to set the price.of fuel,.and depot owners, and allow the transporters too to set their prices

Or the privatisation won't take
They need to scrap NNPC, an organisation called Nigeria National Pertroleum Corporation that can't extract, explore, transport and refine oil and gas after 45 years operations.

Nigeria refineries, farms, electricity plants, ports and steel plants are not working because a selected group of Nigerians make money when infrastructure are not working. The South Africans call it state capture , Nigerians call it state corruption.

It is very unfortunate some people can not see beyond their noses and you are one of them.

The hypocrisy in all of this is that those who supported and voted for Atiku who said he would sell NNPC to enrich his friends are the same vocal opponents of this development. The question they should answer is if they thought fuel price would be cheaper if NNPC had been sold.

Fact is, we would have bought a liter of fuel at nothing less than N250 had Atiku won and succeeded in selling NNPC to his friends. It is similar to what we're seeing with the electricity tariff which PDP approved to be increased every five years. Think!
You said
Where were you in 2012 when GEJ wanted to remove this fuel subsidy and you guys leading a protest against that Government then knowing fully well that you guys was just planning to take over Government without preparation for the governance and concomitant challenges ahead.
Mass protest doesn't decide the democratic decision of a leaders, it might influence the decision but a true leader with honest conviction would have convince Nigeria that removing oil subsidies and investing in fixing the four oil refineries would have been the best way forward.

GEJ three senior ministers (Sanusi (CBN Governor ) Iwealla (Finance ) and Diezani Alison-Madueke(Petrol) provided compelling argument during the fuel debate on why oil subsidies must be removed and the saving invested in infrastructures including the four refineries

He should have accelerated a programme for fixing the oil refineries and gradual reducing the oil subsidies, instead oil subsidies increased under GEJ wiping out the FX reserves left by OBJ government.

GEJ kept the oil subsidies for the best part of four years after the mass protest and did nothing absolutely nothing regarding the four non-fuctional refineries...because of GEJ incompetence, we now have a tribalist Buhari in power that is as bad and even worst than GEJ.

Personally, I believe Nigerians deserve to enjoy some form of subsidy on fuel price.
I disagree, Nigeria must replace the consumption culture with a production culture and that involve removing all consumption subsidies, slashing recurring expenditures and investing in productive initiatives such as subsidising industrial development, infrastructure, education, healthcare and investing in infrastructures.

Buhari has been force by the impact of COVID-19 and IMF conditions to remove consumption subsidies, this wasn't a strategic decision but a conditional decision.

Finally, on Atiku plan privatisation of the refineries: From 1999 to 2007 Atiku was head of the National Council on Privatization, overseeing the sale of hundreds of loss-making and poorly managed public enterprises alongside Nasir El Rufai. Majority of these enterprises included Ajaokuta, ALSCON , National Secretariat Ikoyi, the three paper mills were all sold to cronies and till this day are not functioning.

GEJ was a useless president, he should have listened to his minister (Iwealla, Sanusi(CBN) and Diezani Alison-Madueke ) and removed the oil subsidies, instead he bowed down to the street mob.

In fact, the few I have spoken with are praising Buhari for finally taking the hard decisions after five years in office. They think that if previous governments had chosen this path, we would have suffered the pains and be enjoying the gains by now. They believe the funds burnt on fuel subsidies, probably six trillion naira in the last 10 years, could have been better spent on roads, education and healthcare.

Nigerians want cheap oil and electricity in a country that produce nothing.

The government should immediately introduce tollgate on all federal roads. Nigeria must also pay for existing and future infrastructures.

Had GEJ remove oil subsidies in 2012 the country would have been able to save £8 billion a year that can be invested in repairing the four and refineries and building additional eletricity power plants.

Are you sure you read post? if not, I have posted a summary of his post for you. Any logical person will understand that political power is earned and not given.

:

SOUTH EAST: IS IT NOT TOO LATE?
NOW; Seriously, let's be sincere. As things stand today politically, why would the APC even hand power to us Igbos in 2023?
On what grounds?
On what records?
On what politics?
Is power given to anyone?
Is it an appeasement or a gift?

The APC is a political party. The main focus of a political Party is to hold power and keep it to enable it deliver on its agenda. So if the APC reads that the SE does not want the Presidency or does not have the capacity to help them win and keep power, they will stick with the regions that can and work with individuals who are interested.

olisaEze:
For ur mind now, you’ve said something smart. Where in that write up did you see that a British judge made his judgement based on an article or comment by Osinbajo?
For your info, that deal was signed by the late President Musa Yar’Adua who was a personal friend of the owner of P&ID Michael Quinn. If you were not so much in a hurry to abuse your betters, you’d have researched further to know that the same Michael Quinn has scammed the Nigerian Airforce in 2001 in the same manner as he attempted this. So if anyone is a buffoon at all, it is Yar’Adua that still gave his friend an opportunity to scam you, knowing people like you would be quick to blame anyone else but the real culprits out of tribal hate.
Actually, It was signed by Rilwan Lukman who was a personally friend of M Quinn.

It was a small scam that would have netted only $40 million until the inaction of both GEJ and Buhari enable the scam to grow the the disgraceful amount of $9.6 billion.

There are no hero in this incident only failures.

Nigeria is in a big mess. Jonathan and his cronies have given Buhari a big problem to deal with.

Few years from today, China will start its own Wahala. What Amaechi and Buhari borrowed to finance one railway project is even bigger than our foreign reserves.

This means that if we empty all of them, we cannot pay the Chinese. It will be interesting to see how the projects they want to finance the Chinese loans with will service the loans and repay the money

I keep saying it, we don't need to keep fooling around in the name of nation building

Let's divide this country in peace if we are not ready to build it

How can all that leaders think of is how to put their country and people in a precarious position?

By this verdict, the court has only postponed the Doom's day because giving Nigeria time does not sound like a solution to the morass.
The man that signed the contract was Rilwan Lukman, who was first appointed Minister of Mines, Power and Steel from 1984 to 1985 in the government of General Muhammadu Buhari.

Once upon a time, during the GEJ era, Nigerians abroad were envious of Nigerians at home because the economy was experiencing a boom. Some regretted traveling as some of their mates at home were doing better than them. But now, the reverse is the case, those abroad thank their God for fleeing Nigeria early. They have practically written Nigeria off, save for their parents and siblings. I believe, as the world goes round, we will experience such a boom again before our time is up. I am not leaving my country for anywhere, I can only visit. We will get there. I have no regrets, even in recession, we continue to shine. Play on Nigeria.
I doubt Nigeria were ever thinking Nigeria was a good place to return to under GEJ, it under GEJ that Nigerian started travelling en mass to Europe via Libya.

GEJ did nothing to suggest that the country was on the right track of development, was there electricity , good roads or security? Just because Buhari is useless, doesn't mean GEJ was any better.
