Urheadmaster: It will cost the federal government little or nothing to find ways to take control of flooding away from the affected states in Nigeria but as usual, they'll always be issuing warning with their hands tied up
nairalanda1: Since 2016, NNPC has been selling fuel to the market at a price lower than that of the cost of bringing it into the country.
The market then sells it at a price above the NNPC sale price, which is fixed by government
Government then pays NNPC to compensate it for the losses it sustains selling fuel to market below import cost/landing cost
That is what Mele Kyari means.
Modifed
By Jupiter's beard, Nigerians are deliberately dense, or just misunderstanding
I am not defending Buhari or Tinubu or exusing anything....I am just telling you how the system worked from 2016 onward people.
Seriously it is not that hard
It does not make Buhari a wise man...infact Buhari was doing the wrong thing by keeping subsidy in the first place, which is why we have issues now. And it was Tinubu who put him there.
If you have nothing sensible to say, don't quote me, keep the eff off.
That is subsidies, the government is compensating NNPC for its loss , which is a subsidy to the marketers
This is what happens when a country has lazy myopic leaders.
Brazil is a tropical country and also a major Wheat producer. A country that imports its energy and food is doomed to fail because the government will have to seek USD to import the two major resources that a country requires.
What is APC and Tinubu's tactical and strategic plan on energy and food security?
princeemma69: Congrats to her. She and Okonji Iweala are making Nigerian women proud. Sadly, Kemi Adeosun would have been among, but she allowed supposed helpers to help her and forge NYSC exemption certificate without following due process.
If you think any female finance ministers, Iweala and Adeosun, have made Nigeria proud, please provide their achievements. Nigeria today is in a financially dark place. They were all responsible for financial strategy, planning and fiscal leadership, yet Nigeria now has over $150 billion in debt.
Zxcvbnmghtr: Yet his silence was far louder, if not why is India interested in him despite not saying a word in France? Lol....levels pass levels.
Some people think it is by granting interviews like one confused empty head like that.
Tinubu has carried out reforms that will benefit Indian companies, they c n now invest in Nigeria and remit their profits, but those reforms will also benefit Nigeria in the diaspora if the government target them for investment.
Sangoamadioha1: His argument in no way buttresses your point. You are saying the timing is wrong but he is saying, which i agree with, that subsidy is necessary and govt should go against the corruption in subsidy administration and not subsidy itself.
How can subsidise be necessary for Nigeria? Nigeria was borrowing $15 billion per annum to finance consumption of oil subsides at the expense of investing in rail, roads, power stations and primary education.
Becoming stale and annoying. Let's find something else to compete for. We know all of you can cook for years, on the marathon scale, but must it be only food that Nigerians cook to enter Guinness Book of Records? They will soon ban Nigerians from that record now...
Nigerians are not original in any endeavour; they are always "follow-follow," and that's why our elites are always copying the Western and Asian economic models.
ecolime: You can remove subsidy on everything but you see education and health, either of them must not be tampered with.
That's about the only thing the impoverished masses are enjoying in this country.
SangoOlukosoOba: Nothing good comes easy!
If Nigerian universities want to compete, they must be autonomous, and students must pay their fair share
Nigerians are the only class of people who want their country to overtake the US, UK and Canada, but not ready to pay their fair share like citizens of those countries.
Also, Nigerians demand instant change and never ready to make sacrifices for gradual change.
Are you normal at all?
He is normal, free education is a fallacy, the government cannot fund it, the student cannot afford it and the standard is too low. When was the last time Nigeria produced intellectuals such as Achebe and Soyinka?
The university system is a conveyor belt of poor-quality students. Let the student that can afford it go to university, it will reduce the university demand and focus on apprenticeship
Namaster: It's madness that anyone will support the removal of fuel subsidy. It may be a good idea in other countries but this is Nigeria.
The people will suffer the consequences of the removal and enjoy none of the benefits. I spent more than 40K travelling to the east in the past 4 weeks.
Nigeria cannot borrow money for oil subsidies, there are no credit stupid to loan money to Nigeria.
DaveHarry: Lagos is rated high cos of d activities taking place there that make it a commercial state, n we all know d people behind these commercial activities are not those who claim ownership but d igbos n other tribes around made it so. If u folo up well, u see how Lagos IGR reduced during the election period due to d hostile attitude been displayed by d so-called owners. I can bet even d supposed owners don't even contribute upto 30% of Lagos IGR. Know dis n know gratitude
Please study your history. Lagos has been a commercial town or city for the best part of 300 years, from the days of Madame Tinubu to the Agudas(Afro-Brazilains) to the Saro (S Leone, Liberians and Caribean returnees ) to the new arrivals such as Hausa, Igbos, Togolese, Fulani, Ijaw, Tapa (Nupe), Chinese, Indians and Lebanese that have all bought commercial development to a state that has been built and sustained by Yorubas.
The majority of Igbos live in the Lagos Mainland, a region that was developed by. Awolowo led Action Group and UPN. If the Igbo leave they will be immediately replaced.
Koralords: Charity begins at home, soludo would be a success
He understands Nigerian politics; he is building APGA into a regional political force and then aligning with other parties to support the aspiration of an Igbo president.
Eagle360: we have arable land no doubt but do government engage in the so called agriculture revolution? CBN gave many states and individual loans for farming but the money was embezzled without any food production.
People should not be starve to death before local production. You can't tell me USA and other developed countries solely provide their food consumption without importation.
If the people don't want to starve, they must grow their food.
Where would Nigeria import food from if there is war in Europe, S America, and Asia? The situation in the Ukraine-Russia conflict should be a lesson that food security is paramount. African countries begging war-torn Russia and Ukraine for food and fertiliser export is a disgrace. Brazil developed simple crop science that enabled Wheat to grow in the tropics.
The people are the government; insecurity and poor infrastructure are significant problems, but the local communities should collaborate to develop local agriculture development from the grassroots level.
Calabar1stSon: Nigerians get poorer year-in-year-out. Religion, Ethnicity and above all TRIBALISM is why they'd be poorer Nigerians moving forward.
I pity no Nigerian. I only help out whenever I feel the need to because too many out there are very evil.
Nigeria is just over 100 years old but the Yoruba, Igbo, and Hausa tribal or ethnic societies have been in existence for more than 1000 years, the issue is not tribe or religion but Nigeria!
Na you dull yourself na, she works in a hospital, as one those casual worker, she's a very responsible, she's planning to settle down with that my friend. I had a video call with her early this month, she even told if I can japa I should do so that Nigeria may dull me to achieve what I want, that she's very OK in UK.
My late sister's husband is in UK too, done with his masters @University of East London late last year, he is doing fine, though he is yet to get that his dream job, we do chat very well, sometimes he throws in lil stuff into my Akant
Well, I have three advanced degrees (from. QMW University and Imperial College ) and operate my own software company. Hence, I take your insult with a smile.
Bluntemperor: To President Tinubu: What Nigerians want you to do for the next one year,is to allow Full Importations of Food Items - such as Rice,,oil , Turkey 🦃,etc. - For this is the first principles to win the Masses to your side- People wants Food and not excuses! Then set up a small Committee on Agriculture that would know the hindrances, since the former Minister- Adesina left, that Agric Sector is stinking of Corruption! • Is Seme Borders Open or Not, give directives, please!
This is complete madness; what kind of country imports Rice, cooking oil and Turkey.
Eagle360: where is the local production? The same rice farmers imported and re-bag? Agriculture revolution in Nigeria is a dream. We need importation, we can't produce everything.
If agriculture revolution in Nigeria is a dream, Then Nigeria deserves to starve.
Any country that doesn't have food and energy will end up being enslaved.
Nigeria need production; the country has arable land and a young population of cheap labour. They should be put to work and introduced force labour if they don't want to work.
Eagle360: Sha open border for importation of food items rice, turkey, oil etc. Local production is a fallacy. Imagine Lagos rice at 33k while government pay 30k as minimum wage.
So importing products that should be locally produced is the solution. The real fallacy is the black man refuses to solve common problems.
My friend's Girlfriend went to UK for her master's degree, she's done now &guess what, She sends money so they can purchase a piece of land in Uyo for her. Now if she was Nigeria, where she for get that kind money to buy a land days that things are expensive in Nigeria.
Next step she is sending more money for that land to be developed gradually.
If you have an opportunity to where the grass is greener why not?
You should first ask her how she earns the money she sends.
I left Nigeria as a 22 years old man and it took me 4-5 years to settle down and I had a British passport.
nwadikeokey11: What do u mean by why he want to migrate at 40? Is he too old enough at 40 to migrate? My friend was around 52 at the time he migrated to the US with his family in 2013. It's 10yrs now and his doing very well. My friend parents, father and mother who are both almost 80 migrated to the US at the request of their son who is a medical doctor there and they have been there for close to 10yrs now. I could go on and on and give u list of people I know who migrated outside Nigeria in their 40s 50s, 60s and so on, and they are doing fantastically well. Keep shut if u don't have the means of migrating instead of discouraging those who has got the means to move, with ur backward question.
Your friend is a medical doctor, his skills are in demand in the West.
BloomingDale: Then when it comes to Northern rule, they will undo all the work we Southerners have done. Are you guys not tired of going round in circles? Please no more Northern rule.
Northern Rule has been a disaster for all Nigerians.
From Balewa to Buhari, Nigeria has always been a disaster after Northern rule. Southern Nigerian leaders can be corrupt or very corrupt, but the country always has positive economic growth, starting from OBJ to GEJ. Nigerians have experienced economic growth because Southern leaders tend to include competent people in government.
