Discuss with them or stop studying their wise ways of connecting words, I heard my mind say! |
Greetings Mr Frank! My bad, it was MEng (Course-based), not MSc. That eliminated the part of sourcing for a supervisor. I just applied and waited for the feedback. Kindly see attached. From the onset, I knew I wasn't qualified for most scholarships, so I never targeted Thesis-based programs. It was University of Regina that gave me a tough time, telling me a co-op masters program still required a supervisor. I wrote to countless supervisors without any positive feedback. I just kept calling the admissions office to update them on the fruitless efforts. Eventually, I stopped sourcing for supervisors and just resigned to 'hope'. When the letter came in, it was an unconditional admission, with a supervisor assigned. The first and last school that turned me down was University of Alberta. Maybe if I had considered my CGPA, that first rejection or what statistics say I might not have even bothered applying to Canada or the remaining two schools. This is the cumulative of my last 4 semester results (I dint even know it mattered), I just checked now based on what I've been reading - 6A, 12B, 9C, 1D, 1E. I know I went beyond the scope of what you mentioned,... I like to think it might still matter to someone new to the platform. Frankrobbn1:

Thanks a lot for the kind words sir. We move!! makano: |
Ok,... Just for the sake of anyone in the process of applying. I finished with a 3.53 (second class upper obviously). Gained admission at the University of Calgary to study CHEMICAL AND PETROLEUM ENGINEERING (MEng.) and also, gained at the University of Regina to study PETROLEUM SYSTEMS ENGINEERING (Co-op). Now you might understand why I insist the individual has a fair chance, especially with those schools I mentioned. Best apply very early...

|
Sir, the admission is competitive no doubt, but yes, with that CGPA he can definitely secure admission for a masters program in Canada. I don't know about scholarships... At least University of Calgary and University of Regina, I don't know about other schools. I'm speaking from personal experience. Qudkom: |

Without particular reference to your car but more of my general experience with cars... When jerking at acceleration occurs, first question that comes to mind is, did you notice it after driving the car through a large body of water? It is possible that the nozzles, plugs, and injector of your car needs to be serviced. That should cost more than 4k including workmanships. The plug cap can also be looked at to ensure that it has no leak, as this can cause it to loose current when accelerating. The wires connected to these areas should also be carefully checked to ensure that there are no current leaks, as this can equally affect how your car accelerates. If this has been done and you still notice the jerking. Let an electrician have a look at your fuel pump. It's possible that there are some wires around it loosing current, or the fuel pump filter is clogged from a dirty tank (if you're one to use your car till the fuel is almost empty before you refill, you need to stop that), or the fuel pump is faulty (I seriously doubt this, what you mentioned sounds like a rewire issue). Also, if the RPM of the car is always fluctuating even when not in motion, which of course would add to the jerking, you might want to consider the airflow meter. To check/be sure if it's the airflow meter, your mechanic should do it... While the car is on, he disconnects the airflow meter, this should cause the current to drop or shutdown the car. Where it doesn't happen that way, he would know that it isn't working properly anymore. Need for change... Lastly, peradventure by jerking you mean vibration of the car, like when you're about to take off (especially manual cars), the car vibrates or makes one funny sound that makes the dash board seem like it is shaking, then just know it is simply your engine seatings that are worn out and need to be replaced. Hope this helps, I figured you don't want your mechanic to bobo you, nice one! Lol. Btw, I'm not a mechanic, I just pay attention to cars... Truth801: |
If you're not sure, ask questions. Don't spread lies like this. The lady wearing the brown dress that you referred to, that's Jude Okoye's wife. #100% Ayoleeboy007: |
So I initially decided not to post, so as not to discourage anyone. On a second thought, the thread is about sharing experiences (good or bad). 2nd application, applied via Paper route on the 24th of Sept, BVL dropped last week thursday, visa denied about 31hrs afterwards. Reasons for denial were generic, FAMILY TIES & PURPOSE OF VISIT. I definitely put my best foot forward, so I'm convinced that for me, this is end of Canada, via study Visa route. For a 2yrs co-op masters program, 1 year tuition was paid to the school, accommodation deposit also. Last 3 months payslip from where I work, including my savings account, and every relevant certifications were submitted. Sponsor transferred USD15k to my dorm for first year living expenses, flight, etc. Sponsor swore affidavit, showed proof of more than enough, including evidences of several businesses. All my family members submitted their birth certs. and passport datapages, including property I oversee (home tie things). Competent guru's proof-read my SOP, made adjustments, course progression was clearly explained. BSC and prospective MSC are both under Engineering, blah blah blah etc., etc., etc., etc. On that note, all applications are unique. Congrats to those approved, past and future! Stay positive for those expecting, irrespective of statistics. Local man moves on! Would definitely explore other options, for now, off to get my fees back! Cheers. |
It all depends on the program you intend applying to. On the school's website, search for COST OF STUDY. Follow the instructions and you should get an estimate of your tuition, living expenses, etc. (N/B: some estimates are per semester, some per year. Almost mixed it up at one point...) Most of the masters program run for 1.5-2years. Anything you don't get, google it, you'll be directed to the right source. Hope that helps! namasi: |
I heard about form-A after joining nairaland. My tuition was paid through my bank's (GTB) online banking platform... The exchange rate might be higher though compared to form-A, but based on your situation why not give it a try. P.s: Worst case alternative if the flywire suggested by @Makano doesn't work for you. oniwoski: |
Ok. No worries bro, anytime. I'll try to respond, just ask the question. wizzywatever: |
Masters of Chem and Pet Eng. Found every info about tuition and what not, on the school's website. MOE14: |
Let's be guided bro... You think? I know! I gained admission for a COURSE BASED masters program in Chemical and Petroleum Engineering, at UCalgary. I'm not guessing, I was told by the representative of the department before I applied, that I don't need to search for a supervisor before applying, as one would be provided if my application is successful. It was successful. Whoever needs to apply should call the department of interest, and equally go through the schools website. No need guessing or debating over information that is available. waynee2baba: |
Try University of Calgary. I gained admission in a similar program without needing to contact a supervisor. At this time though, their intakes would be for September 2020. electroTech: |

Been reading to see the first logical comment... I like how you think! Not swayed by public opinion... Couldn't make sense of the rash comments either! Send me a pm. Sterope: |
I dint receive the email. Yes it's compulsory for the transcript to undergo WES assessment. Note that there are like 2 kinds of assessment for WES (under Academic purposes), and U of R has a specification. I think it's ICAP or so, that they require. You can confirm which it is on their website. Micmay1: |
Congratulations. Same Uni, January 2020 admission... Fingers crossed.

|
I don't know you bro, not sure I want to either, but for whatever it's worth, you got my respect here with the way you wrapped this up! ![]() benque: |
Hi @Qudkom! Please can I send you my SOP, to quickly throw in a word or two? It's just 2 pages. Trying to tie up all loose ends. Qudkom: |
Imagine that... From your other post's, it's clear that is history now. Ahead ahead! ![]() waynee2baba: |
Hey bro, I'm guessing it's about the school's I suggested, and I've replied. If it's related to study visa or travel matters, please share your questions here on the thread. I'm sure there are so many guru's that can assist plus others would also benefit from it. hotboss: |
Bro, your CGPA is good enough. Try University of Regina. Mind you, I got rejected the first time I applied, but someone that had same issue adviced me to re-apply as it was very possible that they had met the admission quota for that academic intake (that was his experience when he emailed them to know why exactly he was refused an admission despite meeting the requirements). What I did was re-apply, not to the closest academic intake (e.g Winter), as I dint want to risk having same issue, rather I applied for Summer intake (I got the admission). I was equally told that I have to find a supervisor myself, as I would need one to oversee my co-op progress, I tried to no avail. I kept calling all the offices in the school to let them know that their professors were not giving me a positive feedback. Did my best and just had to let go at some point. They ended up assigning a supervisor to me, along with the admission letter. ![]() This is equally a good time to apply to University of Calgary, for fall 2020. They also granted me an admission without the hurdle of seeking a supervisor (although course based not Co-op, for Pet Eng., MEng). The point of all these my long story: Your CGPA is good enough bro!!! I had a 2'1, but it's not as high as yours. TRY THE TWO SCHOOLS I SUGGESTED. hotboss: |

I don't blame them anyway, I blame UK and their harsh immigration policies
if it was before, I for dey London now dey chill with 100k per year
(Anyway, my transcript was incomplete and not detailed when I applied back in April or so, no hard feelings)
