Jesus has what he has laid down for us to follow (cos He's the head), now the body (the true Church) is the one that follow His teaching exactly as He has laid them down which definitely won't teach false things...furthermore, any denomination that teaches what's not in line with Christs' lessons is not his body therefore, not a Church.

@ Italo, except for extremely important cases, the confidentiality this forum gives isn't always advisable to destroy. You both can create a mail communication or create new Fb accounts for the purpose and chat there. I really do not see a need for the F2F debate if truth is what is sought, moreso debating from your comfort zones will avail you both of easy access to material aids. So how did they know all this if they didn't have the scriptures?

Another thing you should note is that the bible never existed then (as it is today) so, they could not have had one. They only had scriptures and scrolls written by the prophets which Jesus and the Apostles always referred to in their teaching (because they were inspired of God).

You should also note that the Epistles of the Apostle Paul were written to the Churches in different locations to guide them. Why: because they had issues that needed to be attended to which they couldn't tackle....so they needed the Epistles.

What is the relevance of the bible to the church?

Haba oga, you said the church and Jesus is same, now you say the church (Jesus) can teach falsely, "if it has refused to go in line with the teaching of christ". So according to you, simply put, Jesus can teach falsely if he refuses to go in line with the teaching of Jesus.

Oral tradition or not, we have what we have (and I believe its all we need) in the Bible. If there were other things we needed (from the oral tradition you stated), it must have also been included in the bible.

After accepting this doctrine, it becomes part of your conscience and the means by which your judge right and wrong. Now choosing to do wrong does not take away your born-againism , because your conscience still keeps you in awareness of your wrong deeds as judged by this new doctrine.

After being born again and you need to profit from new awareness, you have to speak(water) and do(spirit) the things you are convinced of by this doctrine, hence you are born of water and spirit.

Haba @ OP, this is the church that organises mass wedding free of charge from anything for her members. This is a church that has Legion of mary that will do anything to ensure you are truly wedded. This is a church that has St.Vincent de paul society that helps non catholics materially, not to talk of one of theirs and for such a purpose. Dear one, no naa, no catholic church can deny a determined candidate the sacrament of matrimony just for their inability to pay such fees. In the villages, such fees accrue from groups like cyon, mary league etc that one should have identified with earlier, but all in all, if any one cannot trully foot the whatever fee (which is not that expensive everywhere), please approach the priest or any of the societies I mentioned, you'll be surprised.

Anyway @ OP, to contribute to your question, some were formed because the founder wanted to indulge in immoralities not condoned in the church of christ, so the new group had to tinker with existing doctrines to soothe the founder and make the new group different. Now they also claim to be part of the "church" too.

Some were formed because the founder lacked obedience and learning and thereby "wrenched the scripture unto their own destruction" they also claim part of the church.
