moshoodn: I ain't from Osun or anything. I'm a Lasgidian!

But mehn seriously, Osun is moving at a fast pace.

BTW, Osun may probably be the only state in the SW with constant supply of electricity.

I've visited Ife, Osogbo, Ilesa and the light constancy is just wow!!

Maybe Osun peeps can confirm this
.
Yea, tell them more. Na una go use una mouths dey Confess d good works of GEJ..

Politics › Re: Lagos Near Self Sufficiency In Power Generation by taharqa:
Afolabs101: 1- The NIPP's that you're talking about (including Geregu II) were conceived and started by the Obasanjo administration. It was stopped during Yar'adua's time over investigations into their cost.

2- Lagos State government are building Independent Power Plants that run on GAS o not DIESEL. If all of Lagos State sites are placed in clusters and powered by gas turbines, the state government's energy cost will be greatly reduced which means a reduction in the cost of governance in Lagos.

3- The Electric Power Sector Reform Act was signed into law by OBJ in 2005. This is the law that allowed for the privatisation of NEPA/PHCN and this law also allows for off-grid power generation and distribution. SO it is this law that allows Lagos state to build their power plants and come off grid.

4- While waiting for the discos, gencos and the transmission company of nigeria to improve our generation capacity, does it not make sense to set up gas turbines of between 1MW - 30MW for housing estates, industrial sites, government clusters etchuh?
GereguII was NOT started under OBJ; its construction started unda GEJ (see comment above).... The very Complex Implementation of the Power Electricity Bill practically started (except perhaps for d unbundling of PHCN ) unda GEJ in 2010/2011; Up to early 2012 for instance, no State Govt cud distribute any electricity even if it produces it.... Some of those mini Plants/Generators the LASG are building are evidently Gas-based, while sm are Diesel-based (and as I said, d programme is commendable)...... PS: I very generously acknowledge d very positive role played by OBJ in d Power Sector, particularly in his initiatives; but Assert that Virtuali all d Implementation (as well as sm other few initiatives) is been done by GEJ. It is GEJ that SAVED d Power Reform process and did/doing most of d work (Yar'adua for instance, not only didn't do almost nothing but in fact succeeded in initialing derailing it); any attempt to argue otherwise is what is been frowned on

casiraghi: • GEREGU power plant was initiated by OBJ
That was d 414 Geregu I Plant, which Obj started. It is both physically and legally DIFFERENT from this 456 Geregu II that is been commissioned today. This Geregu II plant construction started in August 2010 and just got completed by Siemens this year. Moreova, that other Geregu I plant OBJ started in 2004 I think, was completed in August 2011 by GEJ whilst d Transmission Lines and d Gas pipelines for d Plant was done entirely under GEJ. Geregu I was just sold to Elumelu's Cop last week; Geregu II wud be sold next year...
Politics › Re: Power Generation Was 6000MW In 1990... True?? by taharqa: 10:52am On Oct 03, 2013
jp philips: you know very little about this country. Afam power plant was operational during the civil war, it was the Nigerian forces that took it out to keep Biafra in darkness. However, since after the war, Afam has experienced several upgrades till date.

there was another power plant in oji, visited that one on excursion even before 1990.
truth is; the military weren't as bad as the civilians painted them.
though I believe their abuse of human right, gave birth to an era of less impunity hence the development we witnessed at the time, unlike now.
My frnd, keep yr mouth SHUT there. Yea, I forgot to mention Shell's Afam, which was not even producing up to 500MW then. Egbin that I talked about was not even producing near its 1320MW capacity in 1990 (i doubt its 6 units were complete and available then), whilst all d Dams didn't produce up to 1500MW at any time. So how d helll did Nigeria produce up to 6000MW in 1990?? Nigerian total Installed Capacity is still just above this 6000MW TODAY, even afta many new Power Plants and additional units hv bn built since 1990. So what happened to those Plants which purportedly produced 6000MW in 1990? Maybe Earthquakes ate them up, ko? Empty heads bliving anytin they read in d newspapers...
Politics › Re: Lagos Near Self Sufficiency In Power Generation by taharqa:
caseless: Wellcome to lagos, the state whre a more action driven governor is respected and loved than a tough-talking and no action president.
I wish my president can be more of action, than reading long 'speeches' on his achievements that we cant see on ground
.
GEJ is right about now in Kogi to commission a 456MW Geregu II Power Plant which he built from scratch in about 3 years, part of 10 new Power Plants already built (a few almost completing) which wud provide a total of about 5000MW within d same period- this is apart d many Substations and thousands of kms of Transmission/Distributions Lines bn built across d nation; whilst, Fashola is commissioning very BIG Diesel Generators that wud light up only a few Govt offices and adjourning Street Lights!!

And this even when d only reason Oga Fash is building these Big Generators- less than 10MW if am not mistaken- (which is a good thing by d way) is cos a certain GEJ has painstakingly undertaken the very complex job of Reforming/Liberalising d Power Market and implementing d Power Electricity Act (as acknowledged by Fashola here) as well as the fact that a large chunck of d money d LASG used in funding these mini power plants came from d CBN's #300bn Power/Aviation Fund set up by GEJ.

Oh, Yea! We know who d Action man and d Noisemaker (if there is any) wud be.... You, my frnd, are reali 'caseless'.

noblezone: Ok na.

ASUU: 3 Trillion

I am suggesting that others should catch up with this kind of demand!

NASU: 2Trillion
NUT: 2Trillion
PHCN workers: 2 Trillion
Police: 2.5 Trillion
Armed Forces: 10 Trillion (consider Boko Haram and future militants)
Doctors: 3 Trillion
Nurses: 1.5 Trillion
Militants: 5 Trillion
Assembly Members: 20 Trillion

Others should submit their own Trillion here!

As for me, it is only in a country where the citizens are unproductive and bereft of creative ideas that demand is made like this!

I am ashamed to be called Nigerian!
Oga, am just Dumbfounded. As in, Speechless..... I was telling sm persons just sm few days ago that Nigerians are natural EXTREMISTS. Anytin we do, good or bad, goes to d Extreme... *smdh*

Sillly, jobless people.

President Jonathan was in this same Eagle's Square a few weeks ago for the PDP Convention and stayed there for almost the entire day, from morning to almost midnight. He was there in March for same reason. He was there in June for the Army's day Celebrations. He has been going there for other important State functions that require his attendance like the Annual Workers May Day Celebrations.

The FG, led by top Govt officials like the VP and FCT Minister, routinely hold functions there.

Anybody who think that the FG's decision not to lavishly celebrate INDEPENDENCE ANNIVERSARIES till the 100 years Amalgamation Celebrations early next year is because of BH is an Ignorante IJIOTA. And there are lots of them on this thread already.

Afolabs101: I work for the institution that manages the Power and Aviation Intervention Fund (PAIF) so I have first hand information. If you want to refute my points, put up an argument.

It's extremely childish to just say "rubbish" with absolutely no rebuttal or opposing view.
My frnd, d prospective investors put up sm Equity b4 d Banks agreed to provide them with d Debt instrument; and d total Financial faciility that were arranged was both to pay for d acquisition of d asserts AND sm money set aside for sm initial investments that wud be used to resusistate those assets as well as expanding them. Moreova, even though there wud not be Lateral competition as you rightly pointed out, particularly for d DISCOs, there wud be a very healthy push by these DISCOs to improve efficiency and provide reliable power to as many customers as possible cos that is d ONLY way they can get those customers to pay the rates and recoup the huge investments they made (and wud still be making) in acquiring and expanding the assets. This is d ONLY way they can maximise profit, esp seeing that the Power Market wud have both an INDEFINITE (24/7, 365 days of d year) and INELASTIC Demand.....

Romeo386: angry angry I am beginning to hate this jornathan with passion. Jornathan is incapable to rule this country. Some people said that Nigeria is too big for jornathan to rule it, i doubted them but now i believe them. Tell me what goes right since jornathan became the president of Nigeria, tell me the achievements of his government. Now judging by what is happening now, if eventually he become the president again by 2015, what do you think will happen to this country? Jornathan has tored Nigeria into pieces. I voted him into power because i was sentimental - because he is xtian and now i regretted it. Believe me if anyone loves jornathan now, that person is just sentimental, its either because he is a xtian or because he is from the south (south-south). I regretted casting my vote for jornathan. Boko haram are there killing innocent people, ASUU is on strike and now he is trying to sale PHCN while he cant even pay their entittlements? He is even forcefully collecting PHCN from the workers? If care is not taken what happened to my good president (Yar'adua) will also happen to this man.
Guy, how old are you again??
Politics › Re: Power Generation Was 6000MW In 1990... True?? by taharqa: 7:00pm On Oct 01, 2013
duality: Total installed capacity is not the same as what is being generated and transmitted. most of our stations work below installed capacity for some reasons.
The aim of this topic is not clear to me , hence defeated.
Even in respects to Total Install Capacity, 6000MW by 1990 is still impossible.... Egbin is 1320MW (and I doubt it was even fully functional at this time); Kainji, Shiroro and Jebba are together not up to 2000MW. These were d major Power plants at that time, so where did he get his 6000MWs from??
Politics › Re: Power Generation Was 6000MW In 1990... True?? by taharqa: 6:52pm On Oct 01, 2013
This is NOT correct. It is just impossible. In 1990, only d Dams and maybe Egbin, were in operation (or, even built). From where then did that guy get his 6000MWs from??
