eGuerrilla: While debunking the debunkable, you need to be mindful that the original article was published by a UK based newspaper.

It is actually not as uncommon, as you think, for images embedded in a syndicated news report to be altered (for effect), as it passes from one web portal to another. In my opinion, it is the sort of embellishment which sometimes leaves much to to be desired.

tpacalipse: ASUU is one. And at the negotiations wit Federal Government, state universities have their representatives too. This struggle is not for federal universities alone, state schools are also included as federal government fund states. If I must tell you, state universities have collected funds from the little that federal government has released. For example, Adekunle Ajasin has collected 1.05 billion directly from federal purse from this present strike action. The tertfund being enjoyed by most Lecturers on PhD programs and those travelling for conferences and seminars came from ASUU struggles and this funds are both enjoyed by state and federal universities. So many state universities in this country would be left naked if ETF buildings are removed from their institutions. Even some state universities shud be named ETF universities, as all their buildings are products of ETF, which is also a product of ASUU struggle. So, who the hell says state universities do not benefit from this struggle? It is very unfortunate that most Nigerian students do not even know what this ASUU strike is all about. Long live ASUU. Long live Nigeria.

Sincere 9gerian: Let me respond to your STUPIDITY and IGNORANCE as regards the PHCN privatisation before you INFECT innocent NLanders with them.

PHCN privatisation does not mean govt is washing its hands off the power SECTOR. What it means is that govt is transfering ownership of majority shares of SOME of its power ASSETS (distribution networks and power plants) to the private sector.

I hope your brain has not gone too bad to the extent that you cannot differentiate between ASSETS and SECTOR?

All the 11 distributions networks and power plants whose majority shares will be handed over to the private sector (ie privatised) on Monday were ALL built by govt. The 10 NIPP power plants that are also being privatised were all built by govt (their privatisation will be completed next year). So these ASSETS were built by govt and are now being transfered to the private sector for management through privatisation. These ASSETS did not fall from heaven.

In addition, not all the power ASSETS are being privatised. The assets of the Transmission Network of Nigeria (TCN) was not privatised because of its strategic importance and national security. Rather its management was contracted to Manitoba Hydro for a specified period of 3 years. Some hydro power stations are being concessioned and not privatised (they maybe concessioned for 30 years for instance after which the ownership return to govt).

In essence, all these reforms were encapsulated in the well thought out power road map of the FG, launched in 2010. They are not happening by accident.

Likewise, new power ASSETS that are CURRENTLY being built by govt (eg the Zungeru reported on this thread) will in future be privatised or concessioned too.

So in summary, the message that has to sink into you emptyhead (although I doubt the capacity of your brainless head to comprehend the subject matter) is that govt is handing over ASSETS, not the power SECTOR. Govt is still a major player in the sector. FG is still building power plants (to compliment the IPP's being built by either state govt or private sector), it still regulates the SECTOR, it still controls the Transmission network (although contracted to private sector management for 3 years now) and it is still building new transmission lines. What the Power Road map will achieve after full implementation is that unlike before when investment in the power SECTOR was only coming from govt, now investments are now coming from BOTH govt and private sector. This is more like fast forwarding PROGRESS in the power SECTOR.
lol.... O boy, you get time o. All these explanations for that CLOWN. You wan destroy d remaining brain cells e still get, ni?? grin grin

Nigeria commissions its largest rice mill

Nigeria has commissioned its largest ever rice processing mill with an estimated annual capacity of 30,000 tonnes. The project in the final stages of construction, is expected to be fully operational by November at the beginning of the rice harvest season

Fresh bweeeeeeezeeeeeeeee!!!!!
I do not even think this is the largest Rice Mill in the country yet; the 50,000 ton EbonyiAgro Rill Mill at Ikwo may be bigger and already churning out bags of rice to the public. https://www.nairaland.com/1456632/rice-imports-down-95-local/2#18424461

But I think the Domino Farms and Rice Mill in Taraba State would dwarf these when it fully becomes operational later this year/next year http://allafrica.com/stories/201302200771.html

@topic, Very GOOD development

asha 80: guy type ebony rice on google and tell me what you see....u wey dey ebonyi never hear am before?...u think i am being sarcastic?
Following from advice, this is the 1st thing I saw. Never knew of stuffs like this:

With the completion of yet another ultra-modern rice processing mill by EbonyAgro Industries Limited, the country may soon return to the path of self-sufficiency in rice production, as against the massive importation of the staple food commodity from South Eastern Asian countries.

Situated in Ekpa-Omaka in Ikwo, a rice-planting suburb of Ebonyi State, the 50,000 tons mill will redefine rice production in one of leading agricultural states in the country. The major private sector investment in Ebonyi, EbonyAgro Industries rice processing mill, is the outcome of a public private sector partnership investment initiative.

Established to process locally sourced paddy rice into parboiled polished rice of international standard, EbonyAgro rice mill will revolutionise the entire rice value chain in the state. The company will achieve this by promoting intermediation between rice processors and farmers to deepen access to agricultural inputs, market linkages, technical support services, as well as financial services.

It will thereby ameliorate the myriad challenges facing smallholder farmers in the state such as low capacity and low yield per hectare, as well as skills and technological gaps.

Charles Ugwuh, former president, Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) and chairman, EbonyAgro Industries Limited, says the company is committed to the development and proper coordination of rice production value chain in the state, comprising of agricultural input suppliers, farmers’ storage and logistics providers, among others, to make rice production in the state competitive and commercially viable.

The company is also working in partnership with the state government to establish an industrial cluster for rice processing in Ikwo Local Government Area of the state.

According to Ugwuh, the commissioning of the EbonyAgro rice-processing mill, which starts rice production by October, as well as the establishment of a rice-processing cluster in the state, will change the role of all players on the value chain, dividing their functions in a way that is most efficient. It will enable the farmer focus on what he knows how to do best, which is to plant rice, same for the processor.

“The old system where the farmer dries his five to ten bags of harvested rice paddy, parboils it, goes to the mill and processes it for a fee before heading to the market to sell will no longer be feasible. It can no longer be competitive. In spite of the rigours involved, the farmer will not produce high quality rice. He is likely to parboil with dirty water, put the rice on the highway to dry,” he notes.

With EbonyAgro Industries Limited bridging the rice processing gap and offering linkages to the market, rice farmers in the state will concentrate more on farming, thereby growing from mere subsistence farming into a commercially viable enterprise.

To make this a reality, the company intends to bring young enterprising graduates to inter-mediate between it and farmers to improve efficiencies by bringing technology to land preparation.

This will ensure that the farmer builds capacity and can operate rice farms as a commercial enterprise that pays profit, not as mere subsistence.

Investment in an ultra-modern rice-processing mill by EbonyAgro aligns with the Federal Government’s current policy focus to re-diversify the economy and re-position the agricultural sector to play its pivotal lead role in economic development.

It will boost the quantity and quality of rice production in the country, revitalise and harness the enormous potential of the ailing agriculture sector to create food security, stimulate job creation, while also enhancing the income of farmers.
