The interview was not free. It was conducted and published by UK's The Independent to help promote his business. Based on the reaction that greeted the earlier published interview, the business owner(Mr. Ali) retracted from his earlier stance to help save face and protect the image of his client(Nigerian Government) and The Independent complied. The business owner suffers from 'foot and mouth syndrome'. The typical symptoms are shoot and scoot, deny, and accuse the media of misquoting or quoting out. You can never steal what belongs to you. They should make their crude cooking process more environmental friendly. I know, they can do it.I can see that you are one of the proponents of 'na our oyel' dictum. I have no problem with resource control, but as it stands now it is Nigeria's oil so those locals stealing crude oil are carting away our collective patrimony. In fact, those who stand to lose the most are Niger Deltans if this menace is not curbed. Apart from the environmental impacts of oil spills, there would be a reduction in the derivation revenue allocation to oil producing States. Reduced funds for difficult terrains. Even though I know that their political leaders are renowned thieves, they will still manage to build one school and a hospital for the masses in their greed and thievery, unlike a 'local or big time crude thief' that will divert every penny made from the stolen oil into his private purse. Crude oil theft is organized crime and if not curtailed, the cartel behind this menace will turn Nigeria into another Mexico where the Overlords are richer and more powerful than the government. Tompolo never buy private jet, yet many are mired in poverty in the ND. You claimed there is difference between illegal and theft? So vandalism of public property(pipelines) and stealing of the crude isn't illegal? Well, na their oyel! |

atlwireles: 60,000-80,000 is about right. Half of which are the locals processing themselves. Abeit illegally but is not theft. Nobody is accusing the miners in the northern part of this country of theft. Gold, lead, zinc, tin are mined daily in Nigeria. The government looses billions in revenue, yet nobody is calling them thieves. Deal with the over loading happening at Escarvos and leave local people alone. I am only worried about the environmental impact of the local guys cooking the crude, not some silly theft.So because it is their oil, its illegal but not theft? See reasoning! How many NDeltans benefit from the theft perpetuated by the few locals? Illegal miners and those who vandalize pipelines are all thieves 1 Like |

I quoted from the original post where it was reported that the president stated that 'The Theft is Little'. How is the government 'fighting' the large scale theft of crude oil? How many of the highly placed individuals who are involved in this conspiracy that deprives Nigeria of billions of dollars have been arrested, prosecuted or convicted? It is also a known fact that the JTF and Naval top echelons are actively involved, or do we talk of the junior officers who lobby to be posted to the ND creeks because they know that whoever serves in the creeks is 'made'? Don't we have security agents at our export terminals, so why did the Naval Chief complain that most of the theft goes on there? Government is fighting the theft indeed! Brother, government does not have to wait for the passage of the PIB before it installs the automated metering system, its the globally accepted standard/practice. Its just like waiting for a law before securing or erecting an inpenetratable fence on your property when you know that thieves are frequent callers. Section 9 of the Nigerian Petroleum Act of 1969 as amended, gives the minister powers to monitor oil companies, regulate the maintenance and operation of installations and the measurement of their production. I have read the PIB, and I am yet to find specific mention of installation of automated metering system in it. Its a known fact and an open secret that the government does not know the quantity of crude oil we produce daily. Little thieves vandalize pipelines, the real theft occurs at the terminals. Those whom you issued oil lifting licenses to, are the real thieves who have high grade vessels and connection, many of them your cronies and political associates that is why your government have not been able to bring any of those big fish to book. There is what is known as 'Topping', when you give allocation to the oil lifting companies, most of their vessels leave the terminals with more than their allocation. An example is a company awarded a 20000bpd oil lifting contract, but his vessel leaves the terminal with 25000bpd reasons because we operate a faulty metering system. The 5000barrels is crude oil theft! When the Ribadu task force report recommended that automated metering system be installed at terminals and well heads, your government ridiculed the report. 2 Likes |

What of those on the EFCC Prosecution list? A) 12 former governors of the PDP are before various courts on corruption charges. B) Between 1999 and now, 3 Presidents of the Senate and 3 Speakers of the House of Rep have all been consumed by corruption, all of them PDP. C) 2 former chairmen of the PDP were forced out on account of allegations of corruption. D) At least, 6 former PDP ministers are still facing corruption charges. E) Sons of the current PDP Chairman and a former PDP chairman are both facing graft charges. F) A PDP House of Rep member was caught on tape stuffing Dollars in his cap. G) A PDP lawmaker died in detention while awaiting corruption trial. ........ We can go on ad infinitum. Nigerian politicians and Political parties conduct assessment for themselves and score themselves high without the need for Independent/Neutral assessors. The disillusioned windbag in his usual empty of substance and barren of fruitage ramblings, arrogated to himself the role of the populace/electorates in determining who the deliverers of democratic dividends are, thereby scoring some grossly irresponsible and evidently non-performing governors high.
