ilugunboy: Now the core-northerners can feel a sense of relieve....knowing that anything that try to alter the current status can be killed in the NASS.

grin cheesy
The President's intention and ignoble aim for convening a national conference is to actualize his re-election bid. So far his handpicked delegates are able to deliver on the sale of 'GEJ or nothing for 2015', all other recommendations reached can as well be served to the dogs. Any attempt to forward the recommendations of the conference to the NASS, makes the proposed tea party a ruse.

Ngwakwe: I don't know what to believe again.

Assuming the NASS decides to abandon it like third term agenda?

The more I read meaning into the speech, the more I get confused. GEJ said he gave the committee 100% liberty to draw a plan and agenda for a conference with no oversight, yet he is already vetoing their report and recommendations.

The summary of this speech is that there is no need of a convocation that includes ethnic nationalities since their deliberations/recommendations will certainly be override by Political interest.

I have given up already, accept GEJ rescinds this "killer opinion"
Do not be confused, we are about to be treated to another bout of government magic.

EFCC is already in a state of comatose, a tamed bulldog who neither barks nor bite. How many of the lawyers have been able to prosecute the corruption cases they handle to their logical end? Some EFCC cases have been in court for years now with no end in sight. The same lawyers who file 100's of count of charges without being able to nail anyone with just one. And who the Judges often refer back to amend their charge sheets because they did a shoddy job!

How many of their lawyers have been able to prosecute corruption cases to its logical end? Some EFCC cases have been in court for years with no end in sight, yet the lawyers continue to drain the limited funds available to EFCC. The same lawyers who file 100's of different count of charges, yet with none is able to hold waters, coupled with continuous amendment of the charge sheets.

taharqa: Come on, dont be NAIVE. What were you expecting b4? The Conference to 'share' SOVEREIGNTY with a sitting NA??.... The most realistic hope was always that wheneva the Conference takes place, d structure and processes of d Conference was such that Delegates wud sufficiently come to sm sort of CONSENSUS on sm key issues, so as to have enough Force/Thrust to push the Recommendations of d Conference THROUGH- tru d NA and/or a Referendum. The Force of d Conference, not its 'Sovereignty' was always d only realistic hope of any Conference in Nigeria, except (God forbid) we get to a situation where d very constitutional structures of Govt have collapsed....
What are you on about? You stated yourself, that "...... To push The recommendations of the conference through the NA and/or a Referendum." Shouldn't the president have waited for the report of the advisory committee which he instituted to consult Nigerians and in their framework is to prepare the template and modalities for the conference, before making a pronouncement? How is he sure the advisory committee won't propose that the outcome be pushed through a 'Referendum' instead of subjecting it to the NASS? Does it not look like it has a preconceived agenda behind it? Another thing is, if the recommendations of the conference will be subjected to NA debate, why can't we just elect our representatives in a truly constitutional process i.e conduct real credible elections in 2015 where Nigerians can decide their true representatives instead of wasting public funds on another charade.

Sovereignty lies with the people. Only the people of Nigeria can decide whether or not to have a National conference. Without a 'Referendum' to have a national conference and decide on the outcome of the conference, it will amount to usurpation of their rights.

PoliticsRe: N255M Ministerial Car Scandal Is “all Rumours” - Aviation Officials by takedat(m): 9:46am On Oct 16, 2013
Sincere 9gerian: If we insist the politicians must do the RIGHT thing, we must also insist that others (citizens, journalists, etc) must also do the RIGHT thing. Doing the RIGHT thing should not be limited to only those in govt.

The RIGHT thing in investigative journalism is that you must give all the parties concerned an opportunity to say their SIDE of the story. It becomes a hatchet job when one rushes to publish ONE-SIDED story.

In the case in question, Premium Times has done the RIGHT thing. The aviation spokesperson tried to dismiss the report but I think that was wrong. He should provide more credible response that addresses the substance in the allegations. But the spokesperson for the minister has promised to get back to the Premium Times and hopeful he'll provide a response that deals with the substance in the allegation.

I cannot participate in the condemnation or crucifixion of any human being based on one-sided story. I dont know about you.
This is absolute thrash. SR acted as the whistle blower in this instance, and Premium Times followed up on the story. Instead of trying to castigate SR who exposed the arrant misuse of public funds, why not channel such anger towards the minister and the ministry who oversee the agency and has maintained a conspiracy of silence over such profligate act before it was exposed by SR?

SR should be given credit for exposing the wrath in our system. If the documented evidence published by SR had fallen into the hands of several of our conventional journalists and editors working in the mainstream media houses, we most likely would not have heard of it because brown envelopes would have exchanged hands.
PoliticsRe: National Dialogue Outcome To Be Sent To National Assembly by takedat(m):
The motive of those who conceptualized the proposed national conference is gradually coming to the fore, and it has a preconceived agenda behind it and a predetermined outcome for it. The President jumped the gun, I thought he could have waited for the report and recommendations of the advisory committee he constituted to advice him, consult and also prepare the template and modalities for the conference before making any pronouncement. He does not know whether the committee after all consultations would propose that the outcome of the conference be subjected to a referendum or not. This is why some of us have continued to express cautious optimism. Isn't this going to be a government doctored and midwife conference if the national assembly will still have to debate on the outcome of the conference? Will the highly populated Northerners in the hallowed chambers of the NA not vote against constitutional reforms not favorable to their people? Are they not the same self serving law makers who have continuously hampered the passage of bills which are germane to our collective interest? Instead of embarking on a wasteful jamboree and talk show in the name of a national conference whose outcome would be subjected to the whims and caprices of our present crop of lawmakers, why can't the president just conduct a transparent, free and fair elections where Nigerians can vote for their true representatives to trash and deliberate constitutional matters through public hearings on constitutional amendments after 2015?
PoliticsRe: N255M Ministerial Car Scandal Is “all Rumours” - Aviation Officials by takedat(m): 9:02am On Oct 16, 2013
It is now commonplace for Nigerian politicians to dismiss every allegation made against them as being 'Politically motivated'. Before then, GEJ administration had always blamed its woes and incompetence on an unknown to the public "Cabal". Public officials in Nigeria are pathologically incapable of admitting their errors, and it makes them highly irresponsible just like the aviation spokesperson. He dismissed the weighty allegations of misuse of public funds and wasteful spending with a wave of the hand even as sufficient proof was provided by the whistle blower. Shouldn't the spokesperson and the authority be more concerned about getting to the root of this matter instead of the idiotic retort its all rumors and politically motivated? It shows that they have utter disregard for how public fund is being managed.
PoliticsRe: N255M Ministerial Car Scandal Is “all Rumours” - Aviation Officials by takedat(m):
Sincere 9gerian: This is journalism. Contact all the parties involved and report their side of the story. Contacting the parties involved does not in anyway stop you from publishing your investigative findings. It only makes the report look professional and complete. Only bitter, old and hateful fools take one-sided investigative report seriously. I hope SR is learning from Premium Times. Anyway, I am not surprised because SR is always in a hurry to 'nail' the president.
Hypocritical 9gerian, Blame SR for exposing the wrath in our system. What new thing has the aviation spokesman said, 'that Stella is a rich and successful business woman who has made her mark in the oil and gas industry so what is two cars to her'? Isn't this a disgraceful response from a public official? In the face of damning evidence published by SR to expose such profligacy under the supervising eyes of the minister, all the spokesman could muster was that it is a rumor and politically motivated. One would have expected sensible comments such as, 'the minister is going to look into it' or 'the minister has ordered for a probe into the accounts of NCAA'. But no, he isn't concerned about the wasteful act rather he prefers to protect the personality of the minister. Orji Kalu, Atiku and several other politicians were successful and well established before venturing into politics, only for them to spend tax payers fund on frivolous things they could easily afford on their own. Every politician, rich or poor sees the public treasury as his or her private purse.

chukwudi44: Bros are you sure you have been reading comments on this thread? Did you not read about the 2006 aviation act that confers autonomy on the NCAA
I am sure you do not understand what autonomy means. Not interfering in the administration and operations of the NCAA does not mean the minister doesn't have supervisory and oversight powers over it. She has the power to call for a probe into the accounts of the agency and also recommend those involved in this profligate act for dismissal. Her oversight powers indicts her in this case. This is two months after the cars were purchased and the minister and the ministry has maintained a conspiracy of silence.
PoliticsRe: Minister Forced Aviation Agency To Spend $1.6 M On Two BMW Armoured Cars(Pics) by takedat(m): 8:27pm On Oct 15, 2013
chukwudi44: Bros please plead your case with facts and not emotions or speculations.Do you have anything linking Oduah with these cars?
You are trying to say that the minister is unaware of this profligacy. If she is unaware, then, accusations of dereliction of her duties as the supervising minister comes to the fore. If she is aware and yet the head of the agency continues to maintain his or her position two months after the cars were purchased, then, she is wastrel who condones wasteful spending. As you can see, either ways she is indicted.
EducationRe: ASUU's Demands Are Unrealistic And Unimplimentable - NANS by takedat(m):
If there is any group of individuals who are particularly happy with the prolonged strike and face-off between FG and ASUU, it is NANS. NANS leadership is made of those who have refused to graduate, some have spent more than 7-8 years in the university. To those people, NANS is an avenue to make personal gains where they align themselves with/ or to the highest bidder. It is definitely obvious where NANS loyalty lies, and it is with the FG. NANS as a student body and a stakeholder in the university system has never called for a meeting with the stricking lecturers on one hand to express their reservation and the FG on another hand to vent their frustration. Saying that ASUU boycotted the meeting with them is a blatant lie, if NANS had proposed such an important meeting, the media would have followed up on it. NANS is a sick body and has since lost its identity.
PoliticsRe: Minister Forced Aviation Agency To Spend $1.6 M On Two BMW Armoured Cars(Pics) by takedat(m): 7:11pm On Oct 15, 2013
chukwudi44: Is this the best you can come up with? Have you not heard the the NCAA is an autonomous institution? No matter what happens without any corresponce on this from the minister or her signature on these documents then you do not have any case against her shikena.
Blatantly ignorant fellow, I said in my last post that the NCAA just like NNPC maintains their autonomy according to the law, but in reality, there are tied to the apron spring of the minister who supervises them. Do you mean that Diezani does not know what goes on in NNPC? The cars were purchased between August 13th-15th 2013, today is Oct 15, two months after that, the ministers neither queried those involved nor asked that the vehicles be returned in order to show that she does not condone wasteful spending. I am sure if SR had not exposed this, we all wouldn't be in the know because to those in government, it is business as usual.
PoliticsRe: Minister Forced Aviation Agency To Spend $1.6 M On Two BMW Armoured Cars(Pics) by takedat(m):
For all those tribalists and see-no-evil agents of GEJ who claim there is nothing to directly link the minister with the frivolous acquisition, the question is, Is NCAA not a parastatal under her ministry? Can the NCAA make those purchases without her knowledge? If it was done without her consent, did she ask that the vehicles be sent back? There is no way the ministry wouldn't be in the know of such profligacy even though NCAA is autonomous. A Minister is appointed to 'Supervise and Coordinate' the agencies under the purview of the ministry.

It shows that many of us are closeted Sympathizers of corruption as long as the person involved is one of our own. A regimented group think that revolves around, oh they despise her because she is Igbo or because he is Yoruba even in the face of damning evidence indicting such fellow.

That is plausible as long as you believe the President was also complicit in the monumental and reckless roguery of Alams because he was his deputy Governor.

So you need someone to convince you otherwise? Gullibility at times lead to a point of self destruction. ASUU is made up of academicians scattered across the country including those from the president's region. Are you saying that APC has bought over lecturers from the President's region, including lecturers of the Federal University Otuoke? So APC is now responsible for the arrant directionlessness of the FG? I am not surprised you gave a listening ear to the campaign of bare-faced lies, blackmail and propaganda claims of a pay-for-hire, donor-cash drenched political NGO who has embarked on a crudely jaded tactic of character assassination to serve the interests of their patrons in the Presidency because you are genuinely too dense to decipher the real from the unreal.

This AD man must an utterly ignorant fellow cos the above is redolent of political puerility. Does a Nigerian need any mandate whatsoever to categorically pontificate on the rightness or otherwise of the President's decision? Are we running an autocratic style of government where citizens are not allowed to challenge or speak against decisions and policies made by government? Tinubu has a right to express his opinion and hold onto his convictions, right or wrong.

Btw, is AD still in existence?

PoliticsRe: N.conference Too Critical 2b Left 2d Flip-flopping Presidency Of Gej - Tinubu by takedat(m):
Jonathan should prove that this is not another one in his series of flip flop and double talk. Vacillation and inconsistency are as incompatible with personal success as they are with self respect and human dignity. He(GEJ) has constituted various committees in the past with their white papers gathering dust in some abandoned cabinet/shelf. The Ribadu Petroleum task force report is there. Several months after releasing the white paper report on Orosanye committee, Jonathan's government is yet to send its recommendations to the National Assembly. How are we sure this national dialogue committee isn't another red herring, mere grandstanding and another futile crazy-circle ride by the horde of unscrupulous elements that bestride our embrace. Nigerians received gladly the recommendations of the Uwais electoral reform report, but the administration left out key recommendations germane for a transparent, free and fair elections in the electoral Act. How are we so sure the same won't be replicated with the outcome of the proposed conference?

I do believe that for any dialogue or conference to be fruitful, it should come after the 2015 general elections else it would amount to a phyrric victory, waste of resources and a complete sham. Lastly, the call for a national conference is an elitist agenda and how many of our elite can be trusted to represent our interests and aspirations? I believe Nigerians should express 'cautious optimism' towards this Greek gift.
