Politics › Re: Until We EMBRACE Made-in-Nigeria Goods, FORGET About Naira Value Rising! by tctrills: 8:10am On Feb 04, 2024
Rostikol:
Until we START TO LOVE, PREFER, and VALUE NIGERIAN-MADE GOODS AND SERVICES over foreign-made goods and services, FORGET ABOUT THE NAIRA VALUE RISING.

Until we PREFER to buy Nigerian made shoes, slippers, handbags, cars, sandals, clothes, watches, bangles, etc INSTEAD OF foreign made, FORGET ABOUT NAIRA VALUE RISING.

We have to start to see things like the Chinese.

A China man prefers to buy made in China, even if the foreign version from London is of better quality.

Why? Because he's thinking ''why should I enrich Europeans instead of my own Chinese people?''

And so, this makes manufacturing very profitable in China! And the currency very strong! There is more demand for the Chinese yuan than for the dollar!

Why?

Because the people PREFER made in China to imported!

Without that mindset in Nigeria, FORGET ABOUT NAIRA VALUE RISING.

We cannot have a mindset that laughs at a man for wearing 'Aba-made' shoes.

That's a destructive, ignorant, anti-African mindset that will lead us into the abyss.

THE AMOUNT OF MONEY THESE WOMEN WE CALL NIGERIAN WOMEN SPEND ON SO-CALLED BRAZILIAN HAIR ALONE EACH YEAR, IS MORE THAN 2 BILLION DOLLARS.

IMAGINE IF THEY DECOLONISED THEIR MINDSET, AND FAVOURED TRADITIONAL PLAITING AND WEAVING HAIR STYLES OVER IMPORTED PERMS, WIGS, AND FAKE HAIR, ......THAT ALONE WOULD GENERATE EMPLOYMENT FOR 3 MILLION LOCAL HAIR STYLISTS MINIMUM, AND SHORE UP THE NAIRA VALUE.

When do we wise up as a people?

It's not about pointing fingers at govt officials. They make up less than 0.1% of the Nigerian population.

We over-estimate their influence and capacity to alter society.

THIS IS ON US!

Just as we started to prefer Nigerian movies and music over foreign, which made those sectors BLOW to world class proportions, we can accomplish similar by preferring NIGERIAN MADE GOODS AND SERVICES to foreign made.

When we do that, THE ENTIRE COUNTRY WILL BLOW.
This post is definitely coming from another government/APC stooge.

Keep blaming Nigerians for the fall of the naira. It's the fault of Nigerians and not the evil ApC gov.

Did the local rice producers tell you that they are having problems selling their local rice? Is Ofada rice not made in Nigeria? Are Nigerians rejecting it?
Did the shoe makers in Aba tell you that Nigerians don't patronize them?
Nigerian do not have a problem buying made in Nigeria. So stop talking nonsense.

This is fascism and colonialism at their best !
It reminds us of the Nazi regime blaming everyone who opposed them as " a communist agent ".
Can you guys tell us more about how you and your Jewish friends took that land? You went there with guitars and birthday cakes, right ?
The Palestinians danced , ate the cakes, and said " Oh you Jews are pretty nice people, come on in , and take whatever you want, it is all yours ".
Isn't this similar to the European settlers who said they came to Africa to civilize us? They came in with guitars and drums,
with food and their Europeans practices , then we Africans said " Oh White people are nice, come in
take this brother as a slave ".
Suppose this was true, why did the White man come with chains and strings to attach slaves to the slave boat decks then?
Why did they come with heavy guns?

UK, France , Germany, Portugal, Belgium, Spain, etc. were all saying that the Africans who were fighting
against slavery were not working for the interests of the masses.
Not long ago ( 1945- 1960 ) all our leaders who fought for independence were portrayed by the colonial power as
terrorists, selfish , wannabe great people who deserved nothing but a firing squad or a rope.

Even today they are using gangs such as Boko Haram and all the terrorists in Mali, Burkina Faso , Chad, Niger, Cameroon
to undermine the development of Africa. And one can bet that when the terrorist cells are destroyed, the same White man will
use something else : Ethnic war. That is why they are now manipulating the Fulani in Nigeria, the very same Fulani are called
"Peulhs " in Guinea- Conakry, Senegal, Mali, Burkina Faso etc. Those folks are now saying they are "oppressed" in
West Africa. They might one day ask to create a transnational state ( straddling several states ).
BTW: Israel created HAMAS to weaken Yaser Arafat's PLO.
This is so lame.
First the Jews did not create Hamas. This your last statement shows that you are ill informed and a bearer of fake news.
Please read from the link below to understand the origins of Hamas. Have you heard about the Islamic brotherhood?

Yes they can. Like most African countries, their biggest trading partner is China and not any of their fellow African countries.
Also, breaking ties with AU and ECOWAS doesn't mean they wouldn't do business with individual African countries.
Till date, minerals from Niger travel via Ivorian rail and ports to Europe.

DeLaRue:
You think so, but that's not the reality.

There is a pain point at which demand for many imported goods will fall fast. People will simply start buying less and less of them. Whether that pain point is at N1500, N1800, or N2000 to a dollar, I don't know.

But the CBN will have the data. They know. If N1500 doesn't stiffle imports to the level they want, I suspect the CBN will not mind seeing naira close to N2,000 to a dollar.

In some ways, it is to the credit of Mr Tinubu's administration that it is willing to follow this extremely tough path to redirect the economy from import-dependence to greater local production. For a politician facing election in just over 3 years to follow a path that may not show positive results for a few years, is truly brave.

The Nigerian economy was heading for the rocks after over 40 years of mismanagement. Tough decisions are needed to correct long term over dependence on imports.

That naira/dollar pain point is the point at which local production of certain goods starts becoming more viable than importing the same goods. This should translate to us producing more of what we need locally. This will lead to more job creation, less pressure on the naira, and a stronger, more balanced economy in the long term.

But this approach comes with a lot of economic pain initially, as the country is witnessing now.

That's the theory o.

Whether things happen in practice like I stated above is a different matter, because Nigeria's situation often defy economic theory.
Oga, the local industries are being hit the hardest by his policies. Why do you think local industries are shutting down everyday? Why do you think GSK opted out?
His policies are killing manufacturers.

The end of the month is only reasonable. You are about to be 200k richer so be patient.

It's simple, first, we set the betting parameters.
For you to win, the naira must be below a certain amount on the last day of the month. When that is decided, one of us would create a thread in which both of us will acknowledge the bet. Well, the governor did not unilaterally decide on it. The bill passed through the House of Assembly which has representatives from all local governments in the state. He only signed it into a law. That's to tell you the new law is a product of the decisions of all power brokers in the state. Any disgruntled Anambra indigene should hold his representative in the HOA for explanations.
Still government should never have such powers over our lives
This means that the governor and the house can decide what we eat or the kind of clothes we put on.
Or the gov can decide how we celebrate Christmas or our birthdays.
It's an abuse of office.

How can we blame the woman for her husband's choice. He is a grown man and it was his choice to pick up bad habits.
The island is obviously more beautiful and more serene than the mainland so it's not wrong for a woman to desire to live there especially if her husband can afford it.

I've always been an advocate for the outright ban on the flamboyant burial traditions we have down South, so I consider this to be a good move in the right direction.

We waste too much money on the dead, only to later leave the relatives of the deceased in squalor. It's an outdated practice that should be abolished. Why waste millions burying a person when those resources can be put to better use?!
To me, it should be the choice and prerogative of individuals and families to decide how to bury their dead. A governor should not be given such power.
Do I support wasteful and expensive burials? No. But handing such power to a governor is much more dangerous.
I am an advocate for limited power

I agree with all the provisions of the new law apart from the restriction on condolence visits and gifts. Government shouldn't have to determine when and how well-wishers decide to pay condolence visits to mourning families, and the quality/quantity of gifts they choose to part with.
Government should not have the power to dictate how people choose to bury their dead. We keep giving government so much power, even to make moral and private decisions for us.

To me this is scary but I would love to hear from others.
Please I would love to hear from others who share this belief especially the women.
Also, what does it even mean to even respect a rapist?

2,3. Na you no wan use sense understand simple thing. Rape is now being modified to include female raping the male gender. It's

4. You that were arguing on knives and other weapons is now crying

1. If you grip my hand to drag me to an unknown place, i could push you away and escape. Is that not a kind of self defense? Blocking an attack is a form of self defense. Screaming is a form of self defense... You can ask a little lad to teach you small physical education

2. Oga, hide your own ignorance and stop capping nonsense. I'm allowing you to go find and correct yourself

3. You see where you are just fooling around and willing to bury your big head in sand. You criticize me by saying it's ok to kill and defend yourself, later you shift posts. Your mind is just dark, very dark

4. Again, as you suggested. Give your 13 year old child a knife and be walking up and down na. Where do you see Nigerian ladies carrying pepper spray everyday
1. You don't know the meaning of self defense.

Let me teach you from the dictionary
noun: self-defense
the defence of one's person or interests, especially through the use of physical force, which is permitted in certain cases as an answer to a charge of violent crime.
"he claimed self-defence in the attempted murder charge"
Self-defence is the use of force to protect yourself against someone who is attacking you. He acted in self-defence when a gang of burglars stormed his home with a machete

A defence at common law to charges of offences against the person (including homicide) when reasonable force is used to defend oneself, or one's family, or anyone else against attack or threatened attack

2&3 You are not making sense. Please calm down and make out your points.

4. As usual you choose to lie. If you can point out where I suggested the giving out of knives to stop rape then you would have restore your honor. That's if you care about your reputation.

3. I said anything that could resist the man or restrain him but without the use of force and I even mentioned something like pouring sand on his face if that could make them escape the situation.
