True!. Moreso, Education is under the control of Provinces and not the Federal Government. So different Province with different rules... darefestus: I think it is more the fact that getting a supervisor isnt a requisite for admission for your course in those Universities. For what its worth, Some schools take this approach too e.g Saskatchewan and Regina..But sone wont even consider your application unless you get a professor of interest.. Again, getting a Supervisor(But it does help to mention one in the SOP like you did) doesn't guarantee admission as you still have to produce a compelling SOP and Your recommendations must be top notch. |

Not decided ke? Why will i leave Uni Winnipeg that offered scholarship and RA job and go for any of the other schools that I have to pay full tuition and no RA job? Thank God I applied to more than one school. It gave me options to choose from. I did U ottawa and Carleton first and when there was no funding, I tried U Manitoba and U Winnipeg. Thank God I was patient enough, because U Winnipeg came last and it was the best of them all The Patient dog..... akanni: Team12, what have you decided now or you still undecided? What's the latest? |

It depends on what you are looking for. They are both good schools (although UOttawa is ranked higher). It depends on what you want. Education and cost of living is cheaper in Manitoba compared to schools in Ontario, not to forget that Ottawa is the seat of government...So expect high cost of living there. BoniTa08: Manittawa (university of Manitoba and Ottawa) which way..... This wait is really getting frustrating |

The issue of getting a Supervisor to accept you does not obtain in all Canadian universities. I got admitted into Uni Ottawa, Uni Manitoba, Carleton Uni and Uni Winnipeg for Research based Masters and non of this schools came up with an issue of getting a Supervisor to accept me before giving me an admission. In fact it was through this forum that I first heard about the "Supervisor Syndrome" and I just got to know that a friend was rejected based on that. One school that I know has that condition in place is MUN (Memorial Uni of Newfoundland). So my advise is that you visit the websites of the schools you intend to apply to and study their admission requirements and process before you apply. I wish you God's grace!!! DPizzy: Securing a supervisor is d major hurdle for a research based course, while u don't av to bother getting one for a course based masters. Overall, I think chances are often higher in course-based. |

I don't quite get the question. But I got admission about 1 and a half months after application(I applied on 10 October, the very day the online app for fall 2015 opened). It was MA Economics, but I will not be going there because Uni Winnipeg gave me a better offer. Vycta: hey, please was the decision made on your Manitoba app? what department? |

Thanks. Noted halle2: From my experience, I decided to apply alone first and leave my kids behind. However, your case is different because you do not have a solid arrangement for your baby if you leave her behind. Note that childcare in Canada is CRAZY expensive (around 800cad per child per month) so you will need to factor in that amount for the duration of your stay and convert to our devalued naira along with other expenses when showing evidence of financial capability. |

I just read through @mesh2003 posts. So the deal is not to apply with daughter. But I also noticed that all those in the same situation including @mesh2003 plan to apply for child after settling down in Canada. My dilema is that I don't have anyone in Lagos to leave her with. I have no Nanny. She attends a Pre-school in Lagos and I pay for extended care till 6:00pm daily and I pick her after work. So will it be advisable to apply for her immediately after getting my TRV, but before I leave for Canada, so we can go together? Team12: Thanks. I will read up. |
