EPOMA: This is the reason we owe so much debt, they will falsify data and borrow money aggressively, even Nigeria as a whole country does not get this amount from the sales of crude oil in 3 years. It is no even that the port will earn all the duties paid to itself.Bush and banana economicsHave to agree with you. Gross over-estimation of budgets and expensive loans servicing, Public services financed by taxes, mostly excessive and not means-tested, inappropriately geared towards the rich, Systematic flushing out of the poor and helpless with no recourse to public aid. Need to learn from the other Tax Free trade Zone.... methinks... ??Tinapia where a fraction of previous projections are yet to come into fruition, many years later. We're watching, posterity will speak!!!! The population isn't stupid enough to swallow lies +propaganda spewed out constantly . |
Legs look good though |
2-3 years is the advice. There are many reasons behind this. In Nigeria, poor nutrition, recurrent infections...eg malaria, typhoid deplete blood levels. Pregnancy isn't similar to cutting fingers.... lose 5-10mls. Women lose up to 500-1000mls blood in a normal delivery.....How much more in operative deliveries, previously anemic women thanks to malaria etc or in complicated settings . Heart is burdened by the hyperdynamic state worsened in presence of anemia/ hemorrhage+/-hypertension. Poor antenatal facilities, previous poor healthcare sourcing or provision with existence of medical co-morbidities: sometimes previously unknown eg Sc, SS,AS thalasemia blood genotypes or heart disease.... only increase the problem. Maternal mortality figures are rather high in NGR. And high in African communities in Diaspora, particularly those who come in as health tourists. A good percentage come in with previously undiagnosed medical problems and remain in denial rather than commence treatment in a timely fashion or sometimes simply too late to receive any help!!!! Complicated by the above factors and also incessant childbearing with deleterious cultural practices. Decision to abstain can be made dependent on.the woman's condition, following due counselling. It's irresponsible to make a sweeping generalization not to take on the "delay" advice, that could put most NGR women at risk. To the 37yr old, it may be deemed inappropriate to delay childbearing from the social point of view. But her underlying health takes precedence not wants or desires. Now as women are having babies into the late 40's or early 50's, as long as they are certified to be healthy to do so. It only reinforces the mantra: good health is paramount. A responsible mother wants to bring in the number of children, she can successfully take care of, given her health and socioeconomic state. |
Good call, Vincent!!! Good luck. . |
kokoa2008: jennifer killed it kim's just looked sloppy to meDefinitely..... poor turn-out this time.... particularly for a woman whose physical image means a lot.!!!! Boobs or whatever she's got on her chest appear to be sagging and swinging side to side..... Hips look like that of a woman who's just put to bed Wonder what she'll look like after giving birth....... . |
To Op Well done sir.... Hope this makes it to BRF. I'LL use this opportunity to highlight the recurrent flooding difficulties faced by the residents of the Akoka Community/ Morounfolu roads extending to the Ilaje waterfront. Extensive flooding from the Lagoon has become perpetually a major problem. This occurs despite community and personal efforts to sort out drainage issues. A problem which occurred every 5-7 years previously, now features even during the Harmattan season. To the op, many thanks for letting me on ur post. . |
Hey, tell of the packed like sardine morning underground rides into central LDN. Reminds me of "bumper to bumper" Lagos molue rides!!!! :-) |
Ranti Fadahunsi: I feel your pains. My father virtually told me I was ostracized when I was 15 years old. For years, I lived like a slave in my house. And yes, I am the first child. Today, I have bought cars (twice) for my father and mother, I pay my brothers school fees in US, I support another brother and his wife in the US, I gave my sister my former car, I made significant contributions to my sister and brothers wedding, I have paid rent countless times for my siblings, I have sponsored mu siblings on vacation trips to the UK etc. I can keep on counting what I have done for them. But it can never make the pain go away. For 7 years between 15 and 22 years, I did not have a friendly conversation with my siblings. Not one. One day, in my 300 level, I was just fed up and decided to start talking to them. And it has never been the same. They sometime talk to me anyhow, but this treatment has a terrible effect on the self esteem of a child. It is not about the money, or inheritance or all the rubbish some people are saying. But it can be hard and the pain will never go away. Except you locate yourself in a position where you find unconditional love or acceptance again (maybe from a wife, best actually from a wife). I am very comfortable and successful by many standards, but the pain of rejection never goes away. And I am still trying to find and locate myself in that unconditional love situation. People that have not gone through it can never understand. They will only say rubbish. I wish you the best bro. Pray and keep praying. U will overcomeTo you sir I applaud I call it a pseudo- Joseph calling..... At least, Joseph was loved by his father. However, despite the pain of rejection, I would encourage you to only have sincere family members around as much as possible. Otherwise the day they fall away, when there's no largesse to feed on..... will make the pain much worse. Help as much as you can, but not from wrong motives. As it has a way of coming round to bite really hard. Ive observed n experienced it severally. God bless u + ur family. . |
Ivynwa: This is one good reason parents are always advised not to show favoritism to their children at the expense of others because it simply yields bad feelings. If only your father knows the storm and unhappiness he is stirring up in you, he doesn't know and he needs to be informed either by you, your mum or a relation of yours. He holds the key to making it alright and even renewing the not-too good feeling between you and your brother. I saw your post where you said that you can never talk to him yourself but you may be the best person to make him realize this. If you don't want to face him squarely, you can write these feelings of yours down in a letter/e-mail for him (with good choice of words). It may touch him or you can have your mum, an uncle or aunt talk to him so that he can realize how much he is hurting you. I mean you don't have to expect to be treated more specially than others because you are the first but you mentioned that you once poisoned yourself because you never got close to him like a father and child do meaning that there is a void between you two which you yearn to be filled. The above is made on the assumption that series of events bothering the op are recent, father is unaware of his erring ways.... "collecting from Paul to pay Peter" ways, fair play from the brother in question. Things are never that straightforward. To Op.... Well done you on still being a provider/beacon in the family. If you feel ur family stick their noses n your business, its time to draw the line in a prayerful manner. With regards to your Dad, simply in a lucid manner, put across your feelings on him selling off his property without the courtesy of informing or alerting you. Remind him, its his not yours, to dispose of. But as a child or 1stborn, from whom he particularly benefits ,....financially + in other respects, his behaviour is rather odd. Find other mentors that will support you in your endeavours and provide you fatherly and religious/ spiritual advice. Once rid of the "family suckers, gossips or evil monitors" , or at least kept at distance simply fly in your chosen field. Stop seeking affirmation.... then you're least opportuned to be abused, in the name of family loyalty....... Isn't it odd, when there are responsibilities.... you as the 1st born are expected to shoulder them all, regardless of your personal commitments. But when there are goodies to share, then your ability to self-sustain and Not be a menace to others is a precluding factor....... double jeopardy!!!! . . |
To the Op.... Congrats on such forward thinking!!!! Rather than look for the latest flashy car or jewelry, you're thinking long-term. Well done!!!!!!!!!!! I'ld advise a generalist approach, following a self-education in a multi-pronged manner. The Yorubas have a saying....... there are many ways into a market!!!! Multi-focal entry is the way with divine providence. The Nigerian stockmarket isn't quite furnished yet to instill great investor confidence, following fairly recent events, IMHO. You've had advice re: government bonds. I personally have little experience... hence can't comment. However, judging by the "Divide Nigeria slogans, I read on NL n other sites daily, I wonder about the possibility of NGR still remaining an entity in another 20-30yrs and validity of the bonds then. But on the short-term, it may yet be your best option, protecting against inflation, whilst deciding on.your next plan. The property market is equally overpriced. (..... me thinks that will crash in the not-so-distant future...) in certain localities, particularly once corrupt leaders are taken out of the equation and the issues of sustainability and environmental protection in view of worsening climatic effects, become a major challenge. Land purchase plans should be made carefully. Choose areas with good accessibility, appealing to middle-income earners, not prone to flooding. Large plots or acres can be bought n fenced right away..... have your estate pronto. Invest in a business..... fish farming, poultry.... Can use some of ur land for this. Create employment for others. Get a good manager due to your personal work constraints but keep a watchful eye.... so weekends are spent at your businesses, monitoring progress and identifying growth strategies. Land purchase may not necessarily be in popular areas or even in Nigeria. Invest in other countries with good laws in place, to protect your investment. It may be initially expensive, but should hold value on the medium to long-term. Europe is a viable option due to recession. Avoid Spain though, due to uncertain interpretation of their land laws. Invest in yourself as needed. Be charitable, Help the poor, the needy through your house of faith or otherwise depending on your faith or lack of it . Keep up on the good work. Let's hear how u get on. |
Criteria: Boobs covered ........ tick Thighs covered......... tick No indecent pose ..... tick Make-up well done.....tick Red carpet Pose .........half- tick (the back pose showed off the dress design better) Dress design/ cut ............ tick Dress appropriate for occasion..... tick. (unsure of turban: reminds me of Onyeka) Dress fabric/ manufacture........ nil point/ -4 (the tailor needs to be head-slapped: poor choice of fabric or wrong tension/ thread whilst sewing........ sewing 201 course) Overall, acceptable, given the contraptions others wore... Gennys yellow gown, Osa's gown without the tulle.. (tulle train seemed ott and dated), Okereke's gown (without the crumpled look or tailoring deficiency) were good to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Other nice gowns were let down by lack of appropriate support underwear, leading to overhanging bellies, be it lower or upper panus. . . |

ekenedegreat: So, wat re u insinuating? If na u or ur sister chop d guy money run d case 4 no reach police station d guy 4 endure am. but now wey b say na ur sis b d maga reverse is now d case.. ladies of nowadays re very bad I dnt knw why... U ladies re very selfish u always want everything 2 work in ur favour. What the lady is saying, is supported by social norms or standards. Women being the "weaker" sex are considered to be receivers.... so will not be frowned upon, if they "obtain" of men, in small measures. So its not about being selfish. Caveat: The helpful girls being spoken of in this topic, hadly obtain. Downside of being helpful:: But you'll find that, girls who are helpers, are regarded as too independent. Hence, its a catch22. The man expects help from his lady, but expects to control her, even with lousy ideas..... God help us all. My conclusion...... not all men are to be helped, cos not all of them can be helped. . |
Reasons are multi-factorial. Girls have learnt from their mothers..... How many of these Surulere mothers have been treated right... not have younger gold-digging women thrust on them unceremoniously as younger wives, with little financial support for their children n dependents Or in some cases, a personal experience, such as freecocoa's sister. I'm currently observing a close friend in this dilemma. Inadvertently, she's become her chap's monthly salary. What irritates is .... this is on the basis of false information. 2ndly, society on the whole as changed. It's deemed normal to obtain from n cheat the next person. Consciences have sacrificed on the altars of "I must make it by all means possible, right or wrong syndrome" not necessarily of poverty as expressed by popular opinion. How would you explain a runsgirl living in a nice apartment in a highbrow area, claiming that poverty is the sole reason for her nefarious activities. It's simply GREED!!! 3rdly, many men are boys mentally. Slight issues make them fall by the wayside. Business ideas are poorly thought out ... appear more like some fantasy novel. They then appear like the several yahoo yahoo chaps that abound, only in different disguises. 4thly, traditionally, its not the done thing!!!! Show me a proud African man, he cuts his coat way below his cloth, so he may have to invest in productive businesses, not in Mama Dorthy's palmwine or beer shop... providing more than adequately for his nuclear n extended family. Any rejoinders?? |
Happy bday NL. More grease to Seun's elbow Kudos to the moderators More educational and relevant front-page topics!!!!!! |
Real estate appears to be the deal. However, the prices in certain areas, appear unsustainable on the long-term... IMHO, that is. Lagos prices equivalent to central west London, New York..... on the long-term, simply unsustainable, I think, no matter the 'packaging' or window-dressing. |
pappilo: A stockbroker is not involved. B stockbroker signed a letter of indemnity taking all responsibility for any future claims that may be made against CSCS and thats why they authorised the transfer without approval from A stockbroker.Though not legal, Revealing the identity may well prevent others from fraudulent activities from these chaps or coys...... given the history of previous fraud deals. I worry about our aged relations who have to deal with such ?crooks. Their reps on NL may well get them to explain their corner and hopefully resolve the case. Many thanks. |
Britain lost its triple A rating...... after 30 years Triple dip recession most likely certain.... What's your take on Osbourne's handling of the economy, effect on your wallet and your views come next election. . |
Eko Ile: This project manifested and the Clinton, GEJ and Fashola were at the ceremony because of the initiatives and actions of one man and that man is Tinubu. Thanks for your response. But it seems civil, balanced discussion is an art you are yet to master. You sprout abuse at any contrary views without a balanced argument. There are many projects finished off by incumbent officers which have not necessarily been graced by their predecessors.... That's statemanship!!!! . So the Q is ....what is Tinubu doing there??..... if its not to also protect his investments in the project ?Till you can produce valid fail-proof evidence that Tinubu has no financial involvements (self or proxy) in Eko Atlantic city..... pls stop ur "bull-dog repertoire".!!!!!! It's getting booorrrriiinnnggg!!!! . |
0lumide: What pains me most is the fact that if it's something for the common man,, it'll takes too damn long to be approved, budgeted for, contracted, and too many phases before the common man benefits. But if it's something that the rich are invested in, that's the dream of the rich, that's their plan for investment, it's quickly approved and government play vital roles in ensuring such projects are pushed through. So on point..... That's the downside of Fashola's administration. The elitist projects move quickly but those improving living standards of the average Joe aren't given as much importance, meanwhile the poor get poorer through mind-boggling taxes + "egunje"... What it creates eventually is an unfair and uneven shift in social strata. Then the same upper middle class people *presently hailing the new developments* will be the ones to suffer, when the lower class who have been further impoverished, turn on them!!!!. Resolving this, may take another decade. That's why Fash has to do something now... Draconian measures on the poor... will only alienate them. Be fair and measured in governance...... then your praise will be sung far and wide. . |
tutu1: Nice picture, but Tinubu had to show up for event huh, is he now deputy governor of lagos state ;My thoughts exactly!!! Marking attendance by standing beside Clinton Making certain, he gets his ?30% allocation before re-selling at extortionate prices through his boys or companies!!!!!! . |
Agree with the idea.... All my parents did was to put me on the right rung of the ladder by equipping me with good education and work skills... Not looking keenly to take over the pile once they are gone..... maybe out of duty n to sustain their memory (posterity) ...... yes! Otherwise no. You find these rich kids don't find their own niche/destinies, so to speak..... Carrying on the family drama n wealth: despondently too, most of the time.... Setting them up in their sustainable pet projects is of greater benefit than leaving extortionate large sums of money. Then it creates diversity and enables creativity. Hey Ho.... Just my thoughts.... not research-based. . |
I find hilarious the thinking patterns of some Nigerians.... It simply beggars belief... Everything is measured by relativity..... "I better pass my brother/sister" syndrome. Marriage at the right time and to the right person.... is what matters.... so that whatever Life throws at you.... can be weathered fairly. For the lady who pities her older sister starting the journey, she has completed.... I find her comments to be in bad taste!!! As it occurred to her, there are certain props in life her sister's kids will have, that her own children may not or never avail of.... Or whilst bringing up her children, there were sacrifices she has had to make, her older sister may not be ill-opportuned to make. This is assuming her sister focussed on her career rather than relationships. So in comparing, be careful... for there are areas in your life, the other person will never wish to experience. 2ndly, early marriage doesn't equate to early procreation..... There have been couples who have been childless for years or decades..... What/ who do u blame for their predicament. Importantly, not all people desire to have children... so your procreation argument holds little water here, if they are yet to meet a desirable spouse at a late age. so please a robust argument is needed not just shooting off blindly.... and making decisive comments on experiential observations.. . |
The drawbacks of the Fashola administration is the inability to effectively handle the intertwined microeconomics and macroeconomics of his state. 1 thing he has worked on (which had previously been an Achilles heel).... is having open days... during which progress is disseminated to public domain...**previously he was thought to be a poor communicator*. I hope he learns quickly to correct this present shortcoming and not make a parody of his present laudable achievements whilst being supported and surrounded by his arse-licking advisers. Traditionally and culturally, the SW governance (formal and informal) has been largely socialist. Therefore to introduce a very capitalist approach to governance rather prematurely in some cases, will backfire at some point. Progress for some elite should not be .......of the backs of commoners...... There will be a breaking point ....... and a revolution will occur. It's the unfair way "progress" is being enacted or instituted... that promotes bigotry.... be it ethnic or religious. Afterall Eko's message starts with "justice"...... please let's enact as such. Till Fash gets this sorted, Presidency is only a pipedream away.... as he's yet to display the quirky ability to carry all arms of society at once. Usually a common Technocrat downside!!! . |
Eko Atlantic city...... Why all this furore at the start of the project ![]() Typical Naija style.. Finish it halfway.... then it becomes a feather in the cap. I know Clinton is no Kardashian.... but aren't we tired of buying foreign support ?What should we expect another 45 mins of showtime or less as rates have gone up.!!!!! Pls no hating . |
Opinions are simply...... opinions. They aren't facts till surrounding circumstances state as such. It's your choice to listen to any advice. However, its insulting to adopt certain stances, only to win an argument. This is a forum for mature discussion, not a beer parlour hang-out for 'loose, running mouths'. State ur opinions with facts or research not with derision for people of a different persuasion. . |
As with everything in life, there are advantages and disadvantages. Choosing to focus on one whilst ignoring the other leads to a skewed judgement!!! Let's have a well-rounded argument pls. On the downside of generational gap between parents n children.... there's the advantage of increased social + financial well-being for these children..... more likely stable home life... not jumping from 1 partner to another... as in serial divorcees. Those worrying about parental demise.... late J Esiri was in his 70's.... Goldie was younger by far.... meaning death is no respecter of age. Putting plans in place to take care of your dependents is priority. These are just a few thoughts on the matter. To each his/her own. . |
Blyss: Despite the fact of that on this side of the world we operate upon a quarterly seasonal pattern, is really of no regard when comparing weather patterns around the world. A much more accurate assessment is to base it upon a month to month scale, the average monthly temperatures for the deep south, typically the gulf region, throughout the year is nearly identical to that of Gabon, Republic of Congo, western DR Congo, southern Cameroon and Cabinda province of Angola.Sorry I had to quote the entire script. The last 2 paragraphs remind me of the days of apartheid..... this time round.... its black on black. What a shame!!!! Going back to the vomit of yesteryears!!!!! . |
"No no no no".... like Amy Winehouse once sang. Too many issues. As many have mentioned.... land is valued highly...... maybe not as high as it should. A community may be "donated" to create a much-needed development in the surroundings .... but self-rule, no natives around...... that's way too too far. Our governments may be corrupt but not stupid!!! Creating another Old-style Zimbabwe, na na. Even Israel with the support of the Intl committee is still not settled decades later. I pose a question to Blyss...... Rather than "invading" extremely mineral rich central African region filled with guerilla groups and commandos for sale.... why not get some land in the US.... you have more claim there... you have been resident there for hundreds of years now, Or some arid land in the middle of Sahara desert. Then I'll try to see this as a genuine return to the motherland and not a pseudo-way of black in white supremacy land grab. West Africans may be peace loving but are beginning to wise up. Invasions by powers in Arab lands have been less successful as compared to Liberia. We are observing proceedings elsewhere. Don't think you can do a 'Ghaddafi" on us and not get reprisals..... I appreciate that Intl relations are a bit more convoluted but it still remains an emotive subject!!!! |
RIP sir.. Condolences to the family. You'll be fondly remembered. . |
There's more to this that meets the eye. Their relationship predated the killing. Circumstancial evidence points to another man... so it may well be that the groom is truly innocent. However, Edith is rather brave going on with the nuptials way before her husband is exonerated. |
