SMH.

Oga Seun, I disagree with you on this one. I am far from a church fanatic, its so bad that I missed church today.
But people should be free of expressing themselves how they want.

Please how has the op "worshiped" pastor Chris here?

The word here should be inspired not idolized.

Hope you know you seun is a bigger inspiration to most of us than pastor Chris is to us.

Would you say we worship you if we were to express how much you inspire us?

Trust me, it may be better/longer than the epistle by the OP.
.

But you don't gush over seun, neither do you create threads all over the place in his honor. Do you put up his status on your social media accounts, sending out praise and adoration to him when you can't see him? Have you expressed inspiration from seun in this way?

When last did you use seun as your profile pic? Wallpaper? Bore us with sound bites from him? When have you defended him without knowing him? Sworn that he's a genuine computer programmer? Defended his honor against detractors with facts?

If you haven't, then he's not at the "god" level you've placed this man on yet.

Herod is a reasonable example of why you shouldn't worship any man.

Not God?

Remember Herod.

BTW, why is it that believers love world members act so brainwashed and worship their pastor? They post videos of him on their status, celebrate his birthday online and as if that's not enough they say he's given their life meaning.

Christianity or idolatry?

How can sensible human beings said that "Use of Library" is an irrelevant course in the University?
I guess the Lecturer or Librarian that taught it is not knowledgeable, or not really aware of contents to inculcate in students, which are now generally known as Information Literacy Skills.
If you are a post graduate student now, you will know that topics under "Use of Library" like Citation and Referencing styles (like APA), methods of Information Synthesis, Information ethics, dealing with issue of plagiarism, turnitin software use, etc are very relevant. These are serious issues associated with post graduate studies.
But these are more or less common sense things

From your primary School you've been warned against plagiarizing. You've been taught about a bibliography since grade 3, so what exactly do you need a whole course on this for? Just further sensitization is needed for this, not months of study and then grading.

Being an atheist has nothing to do with my morality! My morals stem from the fact that I am a living being.

I would not like it if you slapped me because it would hurt me so I expect you would not like being slapped because it may hurt you. Same reason why I would not steal from you. But if you do steal from me, I will call the cops on you, and if there's no cops, I will get some really big dudes to beat the living daylights out of you. That should teach you some morals, if you didn't have any already.

I can't beat a fraudulent tax man, but I sure as hell can get me a damn good accountant to help me keep my money out of his thieving hands.
Oh.

I asked that because most, if not all, atheists fall back on their morality when asked what governs their principles of good and evil, just and unjust.

You must know that many men do not have morals just by being humans. But they are guided by laws.

Being a human being doesn't make me moral. I can easily do worse than Bundy or Mr Ponzi himself and feel justified and good about it. Everyone can be a law unto themselves, to judge and do as they see fit. But in the end that will only lead to chaos.

Lol @fraudulent tax man. It seems you have something going for financial transparency.

You may not stop paying tax if it is being used fraudulently, but I see it as my duty to evade paying tax to people who don't use it for what it was appropriated for. And not only do I vote those fraudulent people out, I campaign against them and run for office myself. I guess I see myself as one of those to who a lot has been given. A lot more than just voting out fraudsters is required of me.

My god gives me my wealth for me to be a steward over it so I am accountable to my god as to how it is spent. I ensure my money goes where my god would be pleased its gone or it may be going where some false god wants it to go!

But, as you've said, we do as we please.
Further diversion:
Evading taxes is amoral.

What other compass do you have apart from morality as an atheist?
Christianity EtcRe: Daddy Freeze Reacts To Ashimolowo's Allegations: "I Didn't Beat My Ex-Wife" by Tellemall:
budaatum:
And if you don't mind the diversion, I am honoured.

People are worried about what the church does with their money for a reason. I would too if my pastor were getting richer by the day and poverty were increasing around me. And I'm not suggesting my tithing is for my personal enrichment. Reason tells me that putting a tenth of my earnings in an investment fund will grow it into a sizeable pot if I left it long enough.

If my taxes were being misspent, l consider myself duty bound to pay as little of it as I can get away with. If my donations to an orphanage were being misspent, I am duty bound to find an orphanage that does a better job with my money. And if my pastor were doing what I want him to do with my money, I will not just pay a tithe, I will invest my time to. After all, I would be doing the work of my lord and my god almighty, albeit through and with the help of my pastor.

It is because they are accountable to me, the tither, that I get to have a say, and it is irresponsible of me not to know where my money were going. Just imagine if I were some sort of anti-abortionist, or opposed to homohomo and my pastor were sending my money to homohomo abortion clinics! Would I not deserve to burn in a hell that my god throws such people in? Damnit! Through my negligence and irresponsibility, I would have been buying a ticket to that hell thinking I was going to heaven!

Please note, if I don't like how a government spends my taxes, I get to vote for someone who spends my money like I like. Same with my pastor. If he's buying jets, and I'd rather my money fed the poor, I move my ass from his church to a feed the poor with my money church.

Thanks for diverting.
Even if it's against the law or your better conscience?

That's basically the issue people have with tithing. It's considered an instruction/warning (read law) and against that people still do not wish to pay it for various reasons, chiefest of which is that their pastors will be stealing their money.

If you are truly a just person of integrity who aims to run a lawful business, you should pay tax (theoretically) and not try to evade it. When you do, it is not for you to appropriate what you wish to for your taxes and that of others. This is because it shifts from your possession to that of the appropriate body. It's the government's jurisdiction to use it as they see fit.

If at the end of the day they are found to be fraudulent and diverting taxes for personal enrichment, you do not stop paying taxes. As you say, you vote in a new person you feel will manage it better because that is the law under democracy. You continue to dutifully pay your taxes. Otherwise you will face the law, whether you believe in its potency or not. It's the basis under which you as a citizen of an earth nation will be judged.

The same goes for Christians. A Christian gives to the church not because the church will use it for what they feel they want the church to use it for -after all, many Christians do not know the true amount of bodies functioning within a church and the grants/donations a church receives alongside tithes. But a Christian does so because as a Christian that is the governing instruction, and does so happily because they wish to be on the right side of heavenly law. They are always free to default, though.

However, there is no truly free meal.

The church is accountable to it's own governing body, and that is God. Heaven isn't a democracy. It's not going to have it's laws voted out because we like or don't like parts of what it entails.

If you don't like how your church manages Its money, move to one that's transparent.

You shouldn't be bothered by it, though, since you're an atheist.

I can read! If you are concerned your gift to an orphanage is being misspent, invest your time by volunteering in the orphanage to ensure it isn't. In fact, forget giving the orphanage money. Give your time instead! I'm certain you'd make sure its not misused.
Then why are people so worried about the money they give in church, if they attend weekly meetings?

Why are people worried about their taxes being misused if they're in the country where they pay the taxes?

Aren't they all right there?

Why is the exception taken to giving in church if all are givings?

Aren't all bodies held accountable? Or is there something worse about tithing and not knowing who is gobbling it?

If people in the orphanage wish to enrich themselves, your presence there as a volunteer or monitor won't change it.

You must agree that what they do with it afterwards isn't your business. All you know is that you gave it to an orphanage/charity in good faith.

The same goes for tithes.

Give if you wish to. Don't if it's not for you. But to paint it that pastors are thieves is strange.

People claiming they don't want to give tithes in a church because it will enrich pastors are still giving it to bodies that have leaders who will still enrich themselves from it.

BTW: My post that you quoted wasn't meant for you, so this isn't going anywhere. Thi is merely a diversion of sorts.

So, you just want to drop your money and be done with it? Do you know that 8 hours is a tenth of your weekly awake time? If you gave that time to the orphanage would you not see where your money were going? Or should you not tithe with your time too?
That's not what the poster I mentioned was saying.

That poster mentioned "giving" to orphanages, specifically, not spending time.

How is it suddenly about spending time?

Read that post and correlate it with mine.

If you're scared of enriching pastors, be scared of enriching orphanage home directors.

The abstract and physical aspect can be learnt in months but the science behind it will take longer than just months.
What I mean is this... The planting, weeding, harvesting and other basic farm yard practice can be learned in months but it will take more of practice, reading and field experiments to be able to control pest and diseases, take decisions with tangible reasons and perform excellently as a farmer hence the reason why we spend 5 years studying in university.
However the basics can be learnt in months but in case you are face with a new threat on your farm or an unfamiliar situation you will need the help of an educated expert.
Enlighten us more on the science behind your choice of study.

It will go a long way in educating us on the importance of agricultural personnel and their application.

South African black women all weigh 500 pounds and above, so it is hardly surprising that a white woman had to be found to compete in beauty pageants on the world stage.

When a new title called Miss Hippopotamus Galaxy is created, black South African women will automatically become top contenders, and can thus interrupt their alcohol drinking schedule to compete for the crown.
Sad but true. Well, something good came of sending a colored to the competition.

I do not know any psychiatrist in Port Harcourt... I will appreciate if you can link me to anyone...
I'm not familiar with Port Harcourt, but since you're at the premier university in the state, you can go to their teaching hospital or to the psychiatrist hospital somewhere in the state, as well(go there with someone you trust and who is responsible enough to accompany you, preferably one of your parents).

Or, if you are not comfortable with that, you can get to any general hospital in Abuja for a referral. Try to get help soon so that it does not interfere any further in your life.

Good luck.

PS: Do not forsake God in your plight, because he has not forsaken you yet. If you seek Him, you will find Him. About you giving out your money in church, it wasn't you, it was this voice that told you to. Once you get rid of it, your life will turn around for the better.

Have you considered seeing a psychiatrist?

Many people are affected by these things in Nigeria, but are scared to see a specialist for fear of being stigmatized as "insane".

Google a hospital that caters to your needs.

By the way, how did you come up with your diagnoses? Direct more of that energy to seeing a specialist, preferably a psychiatrist. With a little medication you will feel better, despite how large you think your issues are.

Many of the things you mentioned are easily treatable.

Oga, can you tell me why many men of God find it difficult to quote the book of Deut 14:22-27. Why would they lay emphasis on Malachi
Will you say that before the time of Jesus, because the Bible advocated the stoning of fornicators, that you will continue to do so? One comes before the other.

If you don't wish to pay tithes, then don't. Eat your tithes. But do not twist the Bible to represent what you feel you like better.

Otherwise we would still have people that stone others to death if it suits them and it's recorded.
Christianity EtcRe: Paying Your Tithe Is Biblical by Tellemall:
Gggg102:
1 I'm not kicking against tithe
I'm kicking against compulsion of tithing or haven't you heard that most churches don't allow members to get married and do other things without tithe
or how curses are attached to non payment
if you want to tithe do it but it is not compulsory

in the new testament nobody paid tithe also
you

what God wants actually is a pure heart
who do you think is closer to God.

the man that pays tithe but does not live a Christian life or a the man that lives a Christian life but does not pay tithe
our manmade money is useless to God

it is okay to give in appreciation to God that is Thanksgiving. u can use ur tithe to thank God if you want but that does not make it compulsory

again the Christians in acts were not paying tithes... they were moved to give out of free will not compelled to do so like how it is practiced today

again I'm not against tithing(I prefer to call it giving 10% now)
people even give 10% in my church but they are not forced
the only thing that is announced is that if u want to pay come forward and they pray for you.
no preaching about tithe and how u will be cursed if u don't pay
no keeping of record of who pays so u will deny those who don't pay their rights
just free will.
Well, the topic is not about curses; it's about if the paying of tithes is biblical. And from the look of it, the paying of tithes is biblical.

All other arguments are pointless.

The Bible is very clear.

But as humans, we are free to disagree and try to tailor it to suit our whims. If the Bible states there are curses, whether you like it or not there are. Your feelings are inconsequential.

It's not our job to add or subtract. If it's written, then it's written. Take it or leave it. But do not lean to your own understanding. If you're looking for Levites to pay it to, go back to Judaism.
