I work full time and study full time with 3 kids and my grades are top notch. It depends on how resilient you are and of course my supportive hubby that takes over the home front when it gets too hectic.

It also depends on the classes you take and the type of job you do. With jobs like front desk security, all you do is to seat on a chair and watch the door entrance. This would give you plenty of time to study. And there are many jobs like that.

Manufacturer jobs are the type to avoid if you go to school full time.

If people were making good money doing deliveries, they wouldn't have to advertise so aggressively.

If the money is decent, maybe they have high turnover because it's not consistent, or it's a stressful pace (or very long hours). If that's not true, then they want more drivers, so they can pay less and treat drivers worse.

After checking previous posts of op on nairaland,
I came to the conclusion that you may be right.

Anyone who is lucky enough to leave nigeria especially one from a low income/poor income/ middle income background has started a process to redefine his future. Only a fool would migrate to the WEST and not have a definite purpose. I've actually seen lots of African immigrants in the US with no papers, no jobs but totally hungry for opportunities and success. And on God,they be living real good ATM. It's all about determination.


I met one Nigerian. Kunle in 2014. He got to the us with a B1/B2 Visa and decided to stay back. He was a lawyer in nigeria. Although he wasn't practicing. No firm would accept him. He said he stayed home for almost four years, Hoping and praying.

When he finally linked up with another coursemate who already left to further his education in the US (as per a wealthy man's son) via social media.

He processed his paperwork for visa and luckily he got it. He got to the US. His friend refused to meet him up at JFK to pick him up. Infact his line wasn't available at that time.

He walked out of the airport, got a taxi and luckily he got a Jamaican taxi driver. Also an immigrant, although he's got his PR. Kunle told the driver his issue. For some reason, the driver bought his story and took him to (I don't wanna give out vital info) where he'd be staying but not for free. He's gotta work to keep up(pay rents and stuffs). The Jamaican's were solid. He did cleaning and laundry for them until he got a handle on things. Over time, he worked at a grocery and did security services. It took him a year to fully integrate. Without papers it was a tad difficult but considering his location, ICE were not on his tail.


Anyway, long story short. He went back to school. A community college in NYC. It's free. He was still working. But he changed his field. From law to Nursing.

I later asked why nursing?

He said, because he was no longer a young adult to start up another career that'd take up to 5years to achieve. Besides he couldn't practice law in the US , since nigerian law is very different from that of the US.

2019, July he finally got married but he already got a son in 2018 from same woman. She's a medical practitioner in the same outlet as him.

His life is forever changed and that of his children.

Y'all never wondered why Actress Regina Asika with all her fame at that time still left Nigeria to start afresh as a Nurse in the US?

Most prominent families send their wives abroad to give birth so their children can have dual citizenship. Why? Even with all their power and wealth here in Nigeria. Why go abroad?

Sorry for being inquisitive here. Are you trying to say that a student being the best in his class after graduation, but with a 2:1, has a possible higher CGPA(like you said above) during the conversion process by the school?

I am not a Nigerian. Therefore, I am not verse with the GPA system in Nigeria. I went to school in the States. I have no idea of what you mean by 2:1.

Likewise, the admission boards members of schools in the States may not understand the GPA system in Nigeria. That is why letters of recommendation from your school would come into play whenever they (admission boards in the States)are going through your transcript. There are also centers that can translate the grading system from one country to another.

Maybe a 5.0 on a 7.0 scale in your school would make you a A student (top of the class). And, if this is the case, when converted to the 4.0 scale this GPA would navigate between 3.5 and 4.0.

What I know is that it would be misleading to conclude that 5.0 on a 7.0 scale would be 2.86 when converted to the 4.0 US scale. This isn't a matter of doing just a simple math conversion.

Not necessarily. There could be other factors involved such as the student ranking.

If a student with GPA of 5.0 on a 7.0 scale is on top of his class, then this is definitely not a 2.86 when converted to the 4.0 US Scale.

This is the reason why more information is needed before any conversion is made.

Juniors be weary of people like that idiot. It's how he advised someone on an older thread to go and learn C++. So many people are learning to code now and you have to be strategic to get returns from it. Don't go and learn what you will be unemployed for 4 years. Time is worst thing to waste in this world. They call themselves senior. Who made them senior?

Hunger and poverty no send anybody o and in Nigeria you are already disadvantaged from the get go. I am still a junior like many in this section and my goal from day one has been to help other juniors with what has worked for me.

The fact is if it was easy for Mexicans to enter Canada, they wouldn't be paying thousands of dollars to risk their lives by entering the US illegally.

It would even be cheaper and safer for Mexicans to take the plane to Canada and then to cross the US border illegally from Canada.

I don't have a mexican passport but I know how to process work for American and Mexicans to enter Canada by air. They still have to satisfy Canadian immigration officers as to the purpose of their trip before they can get into the plane to Canada.

Visa free doesn't mean you can just walk into the country anyhow.
