MrAnele:OK...if Jesus set the men free...and the hearts of men did not change inspite of that....things would still be the same. Jesus came to change men'shearts....not to be a superhero. Superheroes are all very nice...but it is the actual job of good governance, people making right choices, hardwork, helping others...that comes from changed hearts...which is what Jesus ultimately wanted. Dont be a loaves and fishes follower. |
Actually, I see no problem with the dress.... It is very innovative. Though me, I will be rocking a cool black suit on my day....I love black suits! |
baralatie:Politics or not, talking about how Nigeria should move forward is a profitable venture. |
Ernchibyke:The South East has a kidnapping problem, and as I have lived and worked there before, and have friends from there, and actually love and miss the place, I am concerned. If the problem is not solved....investors will run away, jobs will be lost, more Easterners will leave for other parts of Nigeria and the world to make their money in relative peace, and the economy suffers. Sorry, but truth is truth. And if we Nigerians don't face the truth about our problems they will overwhelm us in ways we don't like. |
iamvictorbassey:HMMM I think it would be easy for Jesus to walk in and set the Rev Fathers free...and yes, He has done that in the past. BUT... The more important thing here is that Jesus setting the fathers free won't do anything about the evil that drove the 1.Men to kidnap 2.Men and women to run government badly at all levels, leading to poverty 3.The choices that the kidnappers made to do illegitimate hustle...instead of working hard for their bread. Jesus came to change men's hearts...and here is the thing...he has given us the choice...to follow him or not. When Jesus called Peter and company, he did not force them, he offered them a choice. Jesus saving the guys without doing anything about the bad stuff of man's choices that led to the kidnap....that is not salvation....that'spapering over the cracks. So, are people willing to do the right thing..... |
The South East has a kidnapping problem....and it is high time something is done about it. |
Mrtoks:I'm not Roman Catholic...but I doubt the RC church is into tithes like other churches... |
zoedew:More like we allow universites to go private, and take the money and spend it on primary, secondary and technical education. Nigeria needs more techincal people...not white collar clerks. |
We need to stop spending money on subsides in the petroleium, education, and power sectors, fight corruption, take loans for power, rail and roads, and use them well, and spend more money on technical education. Investors would flow in, and Nigeria go better. |
AkpaMgbor:I have a better example for thee 1.India...battling terror groups like Communist gureillas, Kashmiri separatists, Assamese separatists, and at one time, Tamil separatists. 2.Sri Lanka....battled Tamil separatists for 25 years. 3.Colombia...battled the FARC for over 40 years, still battling a spin off group. 4.The UK. Battled Northern Irish fighters for 30-40 years. Has battled Welsh separatists in the past. 5.Zimbabwe...during White rule...battled black Freedom fighters for 13 years. Fighting ended with peace treaty, and eventual black led rule in 1980. There are many more examples. |
34webers:If any party wants to win elections, they better target everyone. Back in 2003...one gent who was running for House of Reps came to my university classroom and adressed a very tiny group of 20 students. The guy in short adressed every one that would hear him...big rally, small rally, one on one. Where is the guy now...he won that election. Has since upgraded to Senate. All because he put in the hard work. |
Doyin2:Exactly. Even if every Nigerian converts to Islam tomorrow...and we elect a super fervernt Muslim as our Head of State...them Boko guys will still keep on fighting...because they think it is not good enough. We need to focus ,in my opinion, on building a good 'asymetric warfare capability' for our Army, improving instituions like the Army and Police, and ensuring good governance at all levels. Boring...but much needed. |
kitaatita:Boko is not an organisation that works for any party. The same Boko that attacks both PDP and APC guys....? Boko is on its own agenda. And the purpose of their attacks is simple...scare people. (ie spread terror...hence terrorist). That's why they are attacking Baga.... |
Zither:I think it is high time we dropped this scare mongering of Islamizing Nigeria. For a start, both Southern and Northern troops have been sent to Boko Haram areas....so, unless you have actual statistics of the tribes and religious beleifs of all the troops sent up North to fight Boko....I have no reason to beleive that Christians are being sent to die disproportiaonately. Then again, you probably support Atiku. Would Atiku send muslims only to Boko territiory. ? When he is a Muslim himself? We have been hearing threats of 'Islamizing Nigeria' for decades now....I even recall one Christian magazine outlining how Muslims were going to strategically islamize Nigeria back in 1993/4. Up till today, Christianity is the fastest growing religion in Nigeria....and there are probably more Christian converts than Muslims. All this 'Islamize Nigeria' is being used by guys like you to corral Christians to vote for PDP. (Now, I have no objection to anyone voting for the PDP or APC or whatever...I am old enough to recall when we were under army rule...and when politics of any kind was a pipe dream).Tell me, when PDP was in power....how did it help most Christians ? Are Chrisitian PDP governors better than their APC ocunterparts? No matter how you guys pretend...GEJ's Christian government was one of the most wasteful in the history of Nigeria....we lost reserves and were taking loans heavily, and it is a part of the reason why we have the economic crisis we are in...although APC has had no answer to the situation. Please, Mr Chrisitian warrior...tell us how you want to make Nigeria better. Stop trying to scare people to vote for PDP in the name of Islamizing Nigeria (just as some Muslims are being scared into voting APC because...Christians and Zionists would come and rule over them...whatever that means). If Bubu cannot islamize Nigeria...as they were telling us he would in 2014....(he hasn't even done nada about implementing Sharia nationally as he acutally said he would...showing that he is a corrupt politican like the rest of them...say anything to be voted)....will he islamize Nigeria by 2023. ? Is Christianity a weak beleif system that cannot stand against any other beleif system? Are you Christians so scared of Satan that you want to look at humans and human methods to defend you instead of Jesus? Anyway....vote PDP. I am not supporting any PDP or APC. But if PDP wins...and they get voted out in 2023 for failure...then perhaps the elite of both parties would wake up and do their jobs...and all the religious scare mongerers can go and rest. |
34webers:Erm, not an Atiku supporter, but anyone can pay for ads via Nairaland's Targeted Ads Platform. I guess APC supporters could do same, and pay for a targeted ad. |
kingkakaone:The sad thing is that Nigerians want to be rented. Who wants to attend a rally where ideas on how to move your community forward would be discussed? Na idea I go chop? |
Jase4real:Oga, good evening. What you are doing is wrong. If you keep on begging like this, no shame, haba? If you want kudi, work for it. Don't beg. Better return all the cash you have collected under false pretenses. If you are really in need, Nairaland has a platform called TeHn. Look for them on this site, and get help. But if you are doing this to get money to pose, by the time the accumulated karma decides to strike you when you least expect it, no say we no warn you. Thank you. I have talked my own |
Well, APC has not fixed the economy because fixing the economy requires moves that are not politically popular. MOves like 1.Fighting corruption....affects some APC members. Can't do that. 2.Removing all subsides ....no, can't allow that. 3.One single exchange rate...sorry... 4.Heavy inverstment in primary and secondary educaiton...with universites made autonomous and allowed to raise fees...sorry, students won't be happy 5.Diversification and industrial development....sorry....we no go gree.Oil is everything. .6 Nigerians pay all their bills...water and power (No way!) |
Hustle is real. Just dash these people kudi, and they would forget about struggle quick quick. |
Aderewah:Beautiful message spoilt by tribalism. Bubu and Atiku are bad leaders....but even them are not responsible for everything good or bad that happend in Nigeria. Some of you don't focus on what your governor, LGA chairman is doing. And some of you rush to defend the corrupt...because they come from your tribe. Change begins with you, and me, and Bubu, and Atiku , etc.... |
The funny thing about this thread is the way and manner Nigerians live in self denial even when the truth is placed in front of them. Someone has brought proof that Bubu does not own shares in 9mobile or keystone bank and neither does any member of his family, and yet opponents are in complete denial. Anyway why should one be surprised. These are the same people that believe that Bubu has no certificate EVEN when the WAEC international registrar handed it to him, and these are the same folk who believe the Jubril Al Sudan tale, despite three being no proof other than forged pictures and fake documents like the death certificate that had a fake local government on it. Guys in the opposition, you are going to be the next leaders of this nation. Yet, just as I am.not going to support APC, I won't vote for you guys either. You are just as bad as your opponent. Just know that Karma is still in operation. God knows I did not like either the PDP or the military rulers. But God knows I did not embrace any lies or malicious tales about them. Even when GEJ was in power, I was critical of his policies, I did not insult or play the man. All of you Jubril guys, a word of advice from second Republic politician Alhaji Waziri, of the GNPP. Practice politics without bitterness. Get rid of your bitterness, and eventually you may achieve your goals. It's friendly advice I give, and not antagonizing advice. Leave the Jubril nonsense alone. Stop the lying. Attack Bubu for things like our poor security, lack of action on power and roads, poor budget implementation and poor diversification. Keep up the bitterness, and you guys will soon notice that one finger pointed at your opponent means four pointing back at you. As for me, no more APC or PDP. Time for YPP, AAC or SDP. |
Sirjamo:I don't like PDP, but subsidies and Nigerians opposition to their complete removal is why we had fuel crisis until last year. Bubu's fix to the problem, while commendable, is a temporary fix. Allowing nnpc and marketers to sell fuel at their price would be a permanent fix |
tit:Good afternoon and good luck with your life |
Hmm 1.Before you bash the hospitals that reejcted the woman....the thing is, madam probably sustained a serious head injury...and that is a problem takken care of in a TERTIARY LEVEL hospital., not in Dr Okube's Consulting Clinic. |
Deepthoughts:Sorry mate, I am not into your APC or PDP things. My point is to explain why subsidy and how it works. |
FRANKOSKI:If government stopped paying subsidy and allowed guys like you to set your prices...thus shooting up your profits....you would be much happier. |
Deepthoughts:1.Well I cannot defend Buhari seeing as he won't do the commonsense thing and end this subsidy nonsense once and for all. 2.In truth NNPC does not know how much we consume. The 65M liters is their rough estimate. In 2012 it was 44m liters.a day. 3.As for what Fashola said...off topic, but until we generate more than 20000MW we are going to keep on using lots of generators (We generate ust 7500MW on a good day, 4000 on a bad day).Power ministry knows what to do...but they won't do it (ie deregulate power thoroughly). 4.Our refineries on a good day refine 20m liters of fuel a day...meaning we have to import fuel. 5.Under subsidy...NNPC cant make a profit. All govt pays them is the difference between how much they import the fuel and how much they sell to retailers. 6.You want an end to all this...well....govt stops all them subsidy payments, the scam ends there and then. Yes, prices will go up, but investment woild flow in, refinereis would get built, etc...and money spent on 'subsidy' can now be spent on other things. Hope you get my point. |
OK...MAKE i tell my story... Two months ago, I was stopped by the FRSC guys...and they 'dragged me to their office' over 'roadworthiness certificate'. Long story short...I paid N7500 in fines and other money. Oh, and they did test my car and told me something was wrong with the break. OK...brake that I fixed 3 months ago? Okay... Anyways, few days later...I went to my mechanic. And as it turns out...there was a serious brake issue. Cost N30000 to fix. Two weeks later...went back to the FRSC/VIO office...and got a certificaiton of roadworthiness. Am still annoyed with them, but at the same time, I appreciate them. |
Deepthoughts:We are probably consuming more than 60m liters of fuel a day. (One expert I heard on private radio put it at 70m) Much of the fuel goes into cars, and generators.Infact due to poor power supply generators account for the high amounts consumed. Our population is above 200million too. |
edicied:Be careful though...some of them used to be boys.... |
Deepthoughts:If the refineries were sold...the problem is that subsidising fuel means that the new investors would be refining fuel and selling it at a loss. And they need the money....the refineries need fixing. EVEN then....the four refineries CANNOT meet our needs today. The last one was opened in 1988....and our needs are far higher than they were back then... |
Deepthoughts:Seems like you don't get the principle of 'underrecovery' 1.NNPC imports fuel (as at today) at N165 and sells it to marketers at N145 per liter 2.NNPC also forces marketers to sell at N145 per liter 3.The government pays N20 per liter of fuel as 'underrecovery' to compensate NNPC for selling fuel to marketers at a loss. 4.Even then, NNPC is not making a profit at all. 5.In 2016 when fuel was being sold at N87 and landing cost was N132, government icnreased prices to N145 , and stopped paying subsidy since cost at the pump was higher than cost at the import. 6.As crude oil prices went up, so did the landing cost of fuel until it passed N160 PER liter...and recently it was high as N190 per liter. Government promptly was forced to start up subsidy payments again ie underrecovery payments to prevent a rise in price of fuel to as high as N250 per liter. 7.It is because NNPC is not making a profit, and has never made a profit under subsidies thaT NNPC cannot earn enough cash to build new refinereis and improve exisiting ones. 8.Also, we don't have more investors building new refineries because no one wants to refine fuel and sell it below the cost it took to refine the fuel. 9. All this corruption you allude to would STOP if government remives subsides, stops paying underrecovery money and allows NNPC to set profitable prices, and allows marketers to import and sell fuel at the price that would enable them to make a profit. However, this means a pump price of N250 and above...which most Nigerians do not want...and which would lead to protests. |
