Abjay97:1.Because our budget for health in Nigeria isn't up to N1 trillion naira. (It is around N800billion naira or 2 billion US Dollars. That is enough for about 2 or 3 American teaching hospitals. 2.Because we insist on paying N20000 for a proccedure that would cost N200000 in reality. 3.Because,corruption makes the problem worse. 4.Because we refuse to do the right thing and make our tertiary hospitals public private...because we want 'cheap health care'. 5.Because most of you want to live off oil money, rather than use the oil money to make more money. FYI....I think Rochas should have his grandkids here in Nigeria...in Imo state. But when we refuse to make the hard choices we need to make...and when we want America level of care at Nigerian prices....don't expect any imporvement in health care. And if you read this as a defence of bad government, sorry it isn't...and sorry you don't get it. |
Virtous Joy... Very meanigful name... |
Banter1:No problem...if Chelsea is serious, they should resist Real Madrid's temptations.... Kante is very irreplaceable. |
From French 3RD division to Lecister to Chelsea to Real Madrid... God don pick im call.... ![]() |
FatherJP:I am no APC or PDP supporter. I am merely pointing out that if you rely on just one source of revenue, and said price of that source revenue goes down...problems happen. (TSA just plugged the leaks....the real problem...our reliance on oil...still remains) I also agree with you that Bubu has not performed...but what you rate as performance is sharing of the money. Me...I prefer Bubu removed subsides, spent much more on power and transport, and also liberalised the downstream sector...which would have profited our economy well well. Even if oil were as high as $140per barrel from2015....I still won't regard it as a good economy. See why I don't like politics. Admittedly, I was critical of PDP...but APC was not the answer for me either. They did not plan to do what I want...instead they brought in more sharing money policies. Nigeria doesn't need that anymore. |
Jasen1:The reason why marriage is important is because when legal trobule arises later on, man can claim that since he did not marry the woman properly, woman is not entitled to anything. Also, marriage = responsibility. Having kids all over the place....bad behaviour. |
Jman06:Sorry,but that is not true. Many Nigerian doctors have been punished by the Guild for medical negligence. Loss of licence, etc. Reason why more don't get investigated? We don't have enough foprensic labs, people don't report cases, etc. Plus, the Nurse was investigated and indicted by a Coroner's report. Let's not justify bad practice...nurses or doctors. |
Kingwizzy16:He would truly respect her by marrying her, and being there full time for their child. |
SalamRushdie:1.Well,this govt has performed....raising the reserve from$28bn in Oct 2015 to $40bn today is not easy. 2.Where the govt has not performed is its insitence on keeping subsidies/setting prices for things like petrol and electricity. If it just liberalised things....investment would flow in,and eventually fuel and power would improve. Prices might be high intially...but they would fall as competiton sets in. 3.Oil was at $100 in 2013....went down to $75in 2015 ,then $30in Jan 2016. If it isn't acrash, what is? |
SacredMustang:Coated cables and underground wires cost lots of money to install and setup...plus they are difficult to maintain. We could do that...but your power bills will shoot up. |
Vince77:Our foriegn reserve is hovering about $44billion plus..we aren't earning enough from oil ,and due to the price crashes between 2014-date....we have had to borrow money to balance the books....leading to us incurring debts that have to be paid. If we wanted to even have a chance of affording such....we need oil to be at $139 per barrel. If not higher. |
TheAngry1:Thing is,if we want increased power....we may have to pay higher bills....which is something Nigerians don'tlike. |
TheAngry1:We have gotten better...but we need to do much more to improve power supply. |
flyca:Could also add energy from waste....we have lots of refuse dumps in Nigeria...which could be used for better things. |
Mcy56:Indeed... |
Otunski:Well,Iknow things are hard....but a woman driving a Ford (rather posh car) is highly unlikely to be suffering economically.... Plus, there are a whole lot of reasons why people commit sucide....and what you should be agitating for is that the guy who you want to vote for in 2019 better have a plan for mental health care in Nigeria...something that includes increasing the number of psychhiatrists, psychiatric nurses, psychologists, and associated facilities. |
Valro:Oh dear....another one. |
Yes...but we are not generating enough powerwise. To compare... Nigeria generates 7000MW( 200 million people) South Africa generates 44000MW (40million people) South Koreagenerates....160000MW( 55 million people) Increasing generation needs at least $100bn if not more USD |
Dareal90s:No,na your fellow countryperson. |
weyreypey:Well, admittedly Bubu has not done well....but when oil prcies crashed from $75 in May 2015 to $30 in Jan 2016, and only just got up to $70 ithis year....one would have expected economic hardship. We went through this in 1983-2003. Oil crashed ,and our economy went downhill till oil rose again. Whoever won,I was expecting hardship. That is what happens when your economy is reliant on one stream of income. There is one way out of this mess, and that involves ending subsides, spending much more on power and transport infrastructure, and fighting corruption apolitically. Which neither PDP or APC or Nigerians are prepared to do. APC might be bad,but let's not pretend PDP would have done better if they won. Infact, we would have had the same outcome,so long as we keep on depending on just one revenue stream...and an unstable one at that. |
Idoko619:That's because 1.We don't have enough pathologists in the country 2.People prefer to take the corpse home quickly. 3.Lack of adequate storage for corpses. 4.We don't enforce the laws...by right everyone who dies should have an autopsy |
namet:Stella Obasanjo's doctor was jailed for negligence... He got one year in jail for manslaughter and had his licence suspended for 2 years by the Spanish courts.... See/click the link here |

Sad news.... A rhumba styleeee...... |
Moukandjo: ![]() Sometimes, there are comments in the Politics page that just make one laugh...and laugh... Anyway, Nigeria's economic problems have more to do with the fact that we love sharing money, rather than using it to make more money.(which is a failing both the past and present and indeed many previous administrations face.) |
nwoke37:They set the prices directly, which means (in practice) prices are kept low (for metered customers)....which means DISCOS are chronically short of cash to buy power from GENCOS...who in turn are short of cash to buy gas from suppliers...that want their cash in dollars. I spend N2000 monthly on power as a metered customer living in a two bedroom.Estimated (at my previous place of residence) was N5000-6000 montly. In Europe,it is N15000 for a metered customer. Then add the fact that the whole estimated billing thing is a racket, plus the fact many people don't pay for power....and you see the problem. The solution...increasing power bills...is going to meet with protests. Bringing in foreign investors...more protests because they too would charge higher. So,we have a power sector harmed by lack of cash on one hand, and corruption on the other. |
HungerBAD:Nigerians aren't ready for serious leadership..be it from apc or pdp. They just want a leader who would share the money equitably But economies don't work that way....and our economy is broke because we keep on sharing. |
Kimikazi2:Experience of working in an under resourced environment, in a new environment, and in helping people grow in knowledge. |
