SlyDev:You haven't added anything to the discussion. Now run along boy. |
Munamoqel:It is a known fact that Igbos integrate wherever they find themselves and also assimilate other cultures - if that isn't nation building then what is? As for your last statement, yes Igbos do sort of have a superiority complex which can be a real cause of disaffection but I don't agree that having a superiority complex should be the reason why they are a target for killing at every instance of Riots in the North or why they should never be in the presidency in Nigeria. |
olisaEze:Your comments in quotes are simply banter that we all do to each other. Similar to "Igbo man fit sell him family or use him mama for rituals, dem too like money". These banks should not form basis of treating them like second class citizens and keeping them away from the presidency perpetually. The average hausa-fualni has been killing Igbos and other southerners since the 1950s for one flimsy reason or another. This did not make Igbos to not vote Yar'adua or hate Atiku. About Igbos not "knowing how to market themselves in politics" the thing is that the average Igbo man does not conform to herd thinking and tries to be as republican in nature as possible. Also, I'm not sure what marketing Yar'adua ever did or GEJ, for them to be elected presidents. |
aribisala0:Is it the parties primary elections that make any one president? It is on record that Igbos voted for OBJ massively on both ocassions even when Ojukwu was a contestant under another party in 2003. Please think before you comment. |
Randerl:We all know that IPOB does not represent Igbos. The only group that can be said to represent Igbos to an extent at the national level is Ohanaeze Ndigbo. So your reason is comical at best. |
Onyiiobi7735:What you are referring to is simply competitiveness. Igbos are known to be very competitive and while this may seem as a weakness, it is actually a strength because it ensures that only the best come out on top. As for your assertions on Ebonyi, it is mere conjecture simply because if you take a stroll to every state in the SE, we have people from Ebonyi living and working and doing business peacefully. |
SlyDev:By default? Who measures the indices for this your default? I dare say that Zik of Africa was one of the best political leaders and admistrators Nigeria ever had. As a matter of fact, it was his nationalistic outlook and idealist principles that made him lose to other more tribalistic leaders like Awo and Ahmadu Bello in the scheme of things at the time. Your reason is not only awkward but a figment of your imagination. |
KillIgbohoN0W:This is not the thread for useless chest beating please. Thanks. |
KillIgbohoN0W:Scared of what exactly? |
I ask this question cos it is bewildering and quite shocking to see the reactions of a lot of Nigerians whenever the question of an Igbo presidency is brought up. Bear in mind that historically, Igbos have voted for a Yoruba man for presidency (Obasanjo in '99 & '03), an Ijaw man (GEJ in '11) as well as twice for core Fulani men (Yar'adua and Atiku). Therefore, any accusations of hate of other tribes by Igbos is laughable and obviously untrue. Furthermore, Igbos can arguably be said to be the most integrated ethnic group in Nigeria since there's no LGA or Town in the country where you won't find a sizable number Igbo people most likely engaging in business, paying taxes and adding their quota to the economic and social development of the state. Now I know the issue of the 1966 coup might come up but remember that this was a military affair which cannot be blamed on the average Igbo man and that the coup plotters weren't solely of Igbo origin. Also, those involved in the coup have written several books as to the reason why it was carried out (e.g. Why We Struck by Col. Ademoyega) hence, ruling out any idea that it was an ethnic cleansing. Finally, it is on record that an Igbo officer was the one who foiled the coup and arrested the officers involved (even though he could have handled it much better by meting out justice asap). Also, if the 1966 coup were to be the reason for the irrational distrust, haven't Igbos paid the more than enough price for Nzeoguwo and Co's mistakes? Last thing I can think of is that they are afraid that an Igbo president will push for referendum to be reinserted into the constitution. Question is how is that a negative thing? Remember that the right to self determination is something that every progressive country should have and in a democracy, all discussions no matter how sensitive must be allowed as that is how a democracy matures - it is tested continuously. EDIT: Issues of being boastful and denigrating to other Nigerians in towns and cities where Igbos conduct their businesses have come up. While I agree that the average Igbo man's big ego is a weakness that can cause him to be disliked by others, I do not believe it is a cogent enough reason to perpetually refuse to give them a chance at steering the affairs of a country where they form one of the major ethnic groups. So I'm asking directly - If you're one of those vehemently opposing the idea of an Igbo president, can you give a good/cogent reason for this decision? |
blowjohn:But he won elections twice to be become governor in Anambra state. So no, your point doesn't hold water. This your thinking in as a result of endemic poverty that has ravished the country for decades, making it possible for citizens to sell their conscience and votes for as little as 1k Naira or sometimes a few cup of rice and tin tomatoes. God help the country. |
inspbado:I quite agree that Yorubas have a flair for the arts. However I believe my point, which was more or less specific to music, still stands. Besides, those names you mentioned, all of them spent very little time, if any, in Nigeria. So I don't think they count with regards to the discuss at hand. Finally per the last part of your comment, I do not agree that government is killing anyone's vibes when it comes to entertainment. Nigerian arts and entertainment is one aspect of 9ur culture and economy that has always thrived no matter how bad the government in power is. Though I agree that much more can be achieved with a serious, people-oriented government in power. Cheers man. |
Ttalk:How is Angelique Kidjo a francophone artiste? Don't you know she's from a part of Benin Republic where Yoruba is spoken as a second language a d she's been using that dialect in her songs over the years? Anyway to the topic at hand, what Reno is saying seems true if you take it at surface value. However the real truth is that the common denominator in all these names is Lagos, a cosmopolitan city and one of the most populated cities in the world, located in the Southwest of Nigeria. Due to its location, Yoruba is the dominant language in the city hence why its that way. Once your music is accepted and blows up in Lagos, Nigerians all over the world will accept it too. Even at that, we've had a few other artistes break out internationally even without working from Lagos so yes there are some exceptions. My point is that it's never really about the language but somehow, music is a universal language. If your song is very good and you're lucky, and maybe with good marketing, your song will go international whether you sing it in Korean, English, French, Yoruba, Efik, etc. |
pyyxxaro:It is very appalling that your thought process is like this. You're a very wicked fellow. How does killing a cross dresser or homosexual who hasn't harassed anyone make sense to you? You and the over 100 ppl that liked your comment need help urgently! |
This is one of shameful legacies of a supposed centre of excellence- Lagos state. The govt forcefully took over people's lands, resold it to cronies and other criminals and blatantly refused to obey all court orders regarding the matter after the affected owners sued. The govt even resorted to thuggery to eliminate the arrowheads of the applicants! Read full details here: https://gazettengr.com/why-we-struck-shangisha-landlord-association-explains-takeover-of-magodo/ Next in line will be Foreshore Estate in Ikoyi. Impunity has been reigning in Nigeria since the 80s and there's no succour in sight. |
50pseamer:Your last sentence says it all. You know deep down inside you that you made a mistake. She only used you for her own objectives (probably to have a child in wedlock and also get German citizenship). Sometimes it be like that. I would strongly advise you to initiate divorce and move on with what's left of your life. Don't try to force what isn't there. Now to the root cause of the situation. I think that you most likely didn't date much in years leading up to marriage. You probably didn't do a lot of dating and didn't bother to understand the psychology of women and how manipulative they can be... I dare say you met her and got married within a year cos you were carried away with what you saw in her (not knowing she was leading you on to get her own heart's desires). She clearly doesn't feel anything for you bro... Just focus on your kid and let her move on with her life. I understand how painful unrequited love can be but it's best to cut your losses and move on. Wishing you the best going forward. |
Chidoka has spoken like a politician that he is. All that matters to them is winning elections. Not high poverty rates, not police violence, not mismanagement of the economy, not the nepotism. He just wants to win elections. Until an Igbo man becomes president of Nigeria, a lot of issues will remain unresolved. |
Tomahawk99:And what happens to those who were victims of the man's greed? He must not rest in peace o. As a matter of fact his properties should be confiscated and sold and any monies realised shared to families of the victims of the disaster as compensation. He is a criminal in life and in death. Nonsense. |
Head of that kangaroo tribunal is Col. Ali current CG of Customs. Gambari who defended the atrocity is also a member of this govt. When you look at all the atrocities that have been committed in this country and see that no one was ever or will ever be held accountable, you can't help but realise that Nigeria is an evil contraption that has killed many innocent citizens just for a certain group of fulani/northern hegemony to continue to have access to oil and power. End Nigeria now! |
An MBA gives you much more advantage as it helps you become a well rounded business person. If you can get an MBA degree from a UK/US/Canadian University, it will serve you much more imo. CFA just restricts your options which I believe isn't really good, especially since it comes with a huge financial and emotional cost. So yea. An MBA is what I'd advise you to go for. All the best. |
Shawnnn01:The way you religiously follow any Igbo threads to spill your usual bile would have been funny if it weren't pitiable symptoms and early signs of a form of psychosis. May you find healing BMC ponmo man! |
Juliusmalema:So residents of Anambra state (some born and raised), and those who work and pay tax in the state have no say on elections in the state? And why will you lump hardworking Imolites or Ebonyians with some violent UGM? Don't you see that you're not thinking straight? Anyway, it is unfortunate that you have allowed politicians who are fighting for power and oil money use your head. Lagos state has been having issues of violence with one of the recent incidents being that of endsars riots. You never hear the governor blaming people from other states even though it is clear that majority of those causing mayhem are not originally from Lagos. The governor must wake up to his responsibilities and should also be aware that not every problem is solved with force. Obiano has been a coward who failed to defend Igbos when he needed to (remember the killings by the army in Anambra state around 2016 to 2018). He has done absolutely nothing worthwhile in Anambra state in his two tenures as a governor and should hide his head in shame. You people are already falling for the divide and rule tactics! So shameful! |
While I cannot personally ascertain the veracity of his statements, I think it's a very bold assertion coming from a billionaire and he shouldn't have any reason to be lying to his own people of Agulu. With that said, Peter Obi is one of the few politicians who are not in it for money or power but to effect positive changes that will enhance the common man's lives. If only Nigerians will shun ethnic sentiments and canvass support for people like Obi and Seyi Makinde of Oyo state. Obi/Makinde for 2023. |
TarOrfeeek:But Gumi has stated clearly several times that they know who the bandits are and their domains. He also clearly said he doesnt go to see bandits without the backing of the security agencies. Lol. |
This thread go don make many soon-to-be-married men liver dey cut ![]() This life, just hope and pray you marry someone with good conscience and fear of God cos bad thing too sweet and e dey sweet both male and female. Also, if you can, avoid marrying under 25 girls. Them never exit their hoe phase and haven't fully matured emotionally. |
Professor Wole Soyinka should shut up, respectfully. I have lost all respect for all those who threw their weight behind a well known extremist like Buhari in 2015. Even foools that had been imprisoned unjustly by the lanky quota system general and who witnessed his horrendous time as a military HOS openly supported him in 2015 (probably due to ethnic/religious reasons). Such people's decision making capacity is seriously questionable and they should never be given any platforms to air whatever thoughts they hold. Disgraceful lots. |
shadeyinka:Everyone who had a good head on their shoulder foresaw that Buhari would be an unmitigated disaster for our budding democracy. Everyone except the ethnic/religious chauvinists and the criminally naive imps who could not take a cue from extant history. So which are you? |
The problem is not just unemployment but underemployment Pay structure is also terrible in Nigeria, although a reflection of the general poverty levels in the country. Yes there are jobs, but they are very few compared to the number of job seekers and with mostly poor pay. In all developed countries, the SMEs are always the driver of the economy. the government must focus on making business friendly policies and implementing initiatives that will help youth massively establish SMEs. That is the only way out in terms of the bad situation the average Nigerian youth finds himself/herself. For job seekers out there, go follow @Career_LinkNG on Twitter for verified job ads, CV reviews and other related services. You will be blessed via that platform hopefully. Cheers. |
zanshi:Good analysis. Until we start exporting much more than we currently do, the country is fuucked cos we virtually live on importation. However, I think you are not seeing the full picture. Don't you think that "the presidency" has a hand in the churn out of harmful policies that only serve a few? Remember in the 2016 devaluation incident, even SLS came out to say how he could be billions richer daily if he wanted. It is a hand of Esau and voice of Jacob situation man. |
Well, good observation. However, we need to analyze the issues critically cos it's a bit more complex than the picture you painted. In my opinion, two major factors are responsible for the reputational damage this small number of Nigerians are causing to the largely resourceful and hardworking Nigerians in the diaspora. 1. Erosion of morals and values - and by moral we're not talking of religious morals. Believe it or not, there used to be a time when hardwork, civility, uprightness and justice were core Nigerian values. These values were celebrated by the society and there were more than a few role models for citizens to look up to. Then entered corruption and nepotism, which reared its ugly head once the military became overrun by ethnic sentiments and nepotism. This got worse with successive military regimes and since Nigeria never really got out of the grip of the "class of 66", we find ourselves in the current situation where criminals are openly celebrated. The outcome is that people resort to crime, both within and without Nigeria, since it has become a norm for criminals to be celebrated. This is the first conundrum to be solved. 2. Maladministration of Nigeria for decades - this is obviously a resultant effect of the first point raised above. This factor is largely responsible for the issue of visa overstay by Nigerians. When as a Nigerian you see no hope and future for you in your motherland, it will take a near-miracle not to do anything possible, including overstaying your visa, so that you do not come back to the country. This is the reality and mind you there are many people who have gone through that route and later "made it". There are even lawyers and agents who have turned the illegal migration issue into a booming underground business so it isn't ending any time soon, especially since these illegal migrants would rather die than return to their home countries. We need to contextualize the issues to understand that one cannot give what he does not have. Until we have a miraculous turnaround in the current gangrenous situation of national values and we somehow get the country functioning optimally, these issues will persist and may even get worse with time. I guess I should have made this a separate topic as a rejoinder but let me just leave it here. Cheers. |
GEEBITE:We know Nigerian politicians are mostly crooks without any iota of honour but our Yoruba politicians take the cake man. |

You’ll always stand alone when ure a know it all, that’s a fact! If the Igbo want support from the rest of the country, let them build bridges and not cheer as MNK burns them to the ground.
, aso ebi uniforms, all the choreographed dancing and music with other tribes' marriage ceremonies and tell me which one you find most entertaining. Yorubas are born creative, it's in the genes, the only problem we have is that the Nigerian environment and (hausa-fualni controlled government) is seriously killing our vibes☹️
