Aside from being financially able to adequately provide for a child, parents also

have to take into account the amount of time their careers and other obligations

will allow them to spend with that child. Take, for example, the young man dubbed

'The Underwear Bomber.' This man's family was extremely financially fit. Some accounts

say his Dad is a millionaire, some I've read say a billionaire. Muttallab is one of 15

children, or so I've read. Is it possible for a father to give adequate time and nurturing to 15

children AND pursue a successful, time consuming career? Very unlikely.  The amount of

quality time allotted per child is as important, if not moreso, as the amount of money available to

spend on that child.  This should greatly be considered as well.

The man is an a$$hole! Her getting a job or her turning water into wine will

not change that fact. He knew of her accent before he had her relocate.

Sounds like he just needed someone to dump his frustrations onto. He's too

weak to confront those who frustrate him on his job (probably a male boss) so he abuses his wife.

Pathetic! If you feel the marriage is salvagable, stay, speak with him about his

constant nagging and pray for the best.  If it were me I'd have one foot back in Nigeria

because I don't see him changing any time soon.

@OP I'll pose a different question. Is it better to stay in a career you're dissatisfied with for

the next 25 or 30 YEARS? If you're unhappy now, you'll be suicidal at the end

of 30 years. Change careers if you're unhappy. Go back to school if it's

necessary. It's your life.

Sounds as though the young lady has a bright future, but the kid will be a social outcast. That's going to matter quite

This kind of talk will get you a lot of jailtime. What if your throwing caution to the wind results in her death? Is she really worth you spending 20 years or

more of your life behind bars, or worse? If this hypothetical female's bad attitude is more than you can handle, that's when you should separate yourself

Intelligent human beings should be able to sit and discuss their differences without resorting to violence.

Girls should be happy they have someone who cares enough about

them to monitor their actions and associates. There are a lot of

orphans in the world who would love to have the problems you

It's really unfair to group all Americans. It's best to view each person separately regarding relationships. Some are good, some

are bad.

In all fairness I should have stated it's unfair to group all Americans as well as Africans. One seems to be as flawed as the other.

I can appreciate African Americans being proud as well as Africans, but let's not be hypocritical.  There is

far too much media coverage of illegal and illicit deeds performed by both Afircans as well as African Americans for either of us

to pretend our culture or your culture is perfect. That would be insane! Plus it would be far too easy to prove inaccurate.

Yes, there's a common believe that Americans, Whites and Blacks, are not suitable for long-term relationships.
Look around you, if you are as observant as Africans are, you'll notice how divorce is promoted in the America today. Every little squabble, misunderstanding, reconcilable differences, etc results in divorce.

In Igbo culture, divorce is rare and marriages are more or less between families and not just the two concerned. If there's a misunderstand, quarrel, etc, families get involved and try to resolve the issue, sometimes it takes days, months, but at the end of the day, it will be resolved for the good of the children.
Any Igbo or even other Nigerians that marry Americans take risks (and they know it) because the future of the marriage is not certain.

And we certainly shouldn't ignore the Africans in America who are solving their marital issues by slaughtering their wives in record number.

Ironically, most if not all of these men are married to African women. I, for one, would have chosen divorce over a lifetime in prison.

Regardless of which spouse initiated the divorce it's usually a traumatizing procedure. Newly divorced people should give themselves time to heal.

Don't think dating too soon is a good idea. They may still be carrying too much baggage from their marriage.
