Christianity Etc › Medical Findings Prooves Mary's Appearation Real by tobechi20(op): 10:34am On Sep 02, 2013
I'll go on to explain further medical studies in the following section, but this is a good place to start to give you a basic idea of what medical professionals have found. (These findings were documented byAnna Yeseta;most of this is listed verb idem).

1.Eye movement when looking at something real compared to something imaginary (such as when the visionaries follow Mary floating upward as the apparitions are commencing). The visionaries eye movement point to seeing something real; not imaginary.

2.Electroencephalographic (EEG) tests confirm that the alleged visionaries' brain functioning is normal and healthy. EEG tests rule out the possibility of epilepsy or psychotic hallucinations. The alleged visionaries are not asleep or dreaming either. Hysterical neurotic reaction or pathological ecstasy is also ruled out by the EEG testing.

3.What EEG testing showed was that before the apparition, the brain wavesare predominantly beta rhythm interspersed by alpha rhythm (normal conscious attentiveness). Atthe start of the apparition, the beta rhythm remains for a short time and then is replaced by an almost uninterrupted alpha rhythm. Alpha rhythm is most often observed during relaxation, in a stateof expectation, or engaged in meditation. It also usually requires practice to achieve such a diffuse response. Because most of the brain is devoted to visual processing, it is noteworthy that the alpha rhythm over the entire cranium was exhibited while the alleged visionaries had their eyes wide open throughout the apparition. Closed eyes would be expected with alpha rhythm because visual stimulation usually produces interference with alpha rhythm

44.To test visual stimulation further, a 1000 watt light bulb was placed in front of the eyes of the alleged visionaries during the apparition. Not only is a 1000 watt light bulb usually painful to the eye but also it would normally cause increased blinking and influence alpha rhythm. There was no blinking movement of the eyelids to the 1000 watt stimulus. There was an interesting pupillary response. The pupil contracted as one would expect in bright light but there was no change in alpha rhythm to the 1000 watt light. This is scientifically inexplicable and never seen before. FOR THE PUPIL TO RESPOND, THE BRAIN MUST REGISTER THE LIGHT BUT NO BRAIN WAVE CHANGE TOOK PLACE.

5

During the apparition period, another scientifically inexplicable event takes place. The alleged visionaries voices stop during the time that they are having the vision. Even though all the musclesinvolved in speech continue (all mouth, jaw and throat muscles), the larynx (voice box) shuts off. This is physically impossible. The laryngeal function cannot be physically isolated from therest of the muscles of speech.

...another very nice topic, you bring to this section. I am of the opinion that there is a need to introduce an award of some sought for those who create good threads in this section.

FLATTERED

I believe firmly that morality and competency are two very important yardsticks in helping one determine who ultimately gets his/her vote in any election.

SAME HERE

Now, the question is: would it be appropriate to vote for someone who habitually breaks the law he is expected to protecthuh. My answer would be a resounding NO!!! If he cannot keep the law before he is elected to protect it, then in my books, he lacks the necessary competence to be voted in.

AGREE

But again, you and your friend were not debating on an objective morality as it relates to the law...I would say the debate was based on a subjective morality as it relates to a particular religious sect.

If this is what we are talking about, then I can vote for someone who is incompetent in practicing my own subjective morality but very competent in the practice of the morality that has to do with the job

NO, THERE WAS NO REFERENCE TO religion or belief. it had bore to do with personal life;

Christianity Etc › Re: Is It Gods Desire For Us To Be Rich by tobechi20(op): 12:43am On Aug 24, 2013
SUMMARY/ADDITION

is it God's plan forus to be rich?

Yes, after creation, He said " in herit the earth"

however when Adam sinned, man was punnished to toil the ground.

Not every one really wants to sweat. We all want easy wealth. Hence, we tend to cut corners for cheap wealth.including, killing and stealing.

Jesus warned us to seek Gods kingdom first and others including wealth follows.

If seeking wealth would lead us to sin, stop.. It is better to be poor and make heaven than be rich and make hell.

It is also difficult to maintain riches and true christianity. Christ warns , " it is easier for a camel to enter niddle eye dan for a richman to make heaven..."if riches would lead you to sin, cut it off"

plaetton: The Nigerian church market is probably the biggest and certainly one of the fastest growing in the world. reliable sources peg the size of the market at approximately 10% of Nigeria's GDP.

A unique superstitious culture, bundled with the adverse effects of colonialism, less than par educational system and decades of political and economic failures by visionless leadership has predicably led to permanent state of ARRESTED Development.
This arrested development has led to widescale confusion, hopelessness and fragmented realities for 150 million citizens of this resource rich nation.

It is this confusion and fragmented realities that is seen as the inexhaustible resource for the churchprenuers all over the world. This resource is said to be more abundant than oil.

Therefore, this religous or church market is fluid and very dynamic, and most of all, it a very open market that is always ready to absorb any new religion or religious product.

Although there are already major big players in this multi-billion dollar market, there is always room for any new entrant that has something unique or stranger than the rest.

For example, we have the deeply entrenched European churches like catholics, Anglican , methodist, etc, then we have the American merchantilist varieties with their " Name it and Claim it" prosperity campeigns , then we have the African flavoured white garment varieties wit their witches, wizards and prophesies.
Even the mormons are steadily moving in their American jesus and American New jerusalem.

In Nigeria, the mantra seems to be that " If you can sell it, we will buy it", and of course, the more ridiculous the better reception.

So, the point of this is that it is neigh time the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster(FSM) is introduced into the Nigerian church market.

The FSM comes with many attractive features well suited tot he Nigerian church market.
First, it is new.
It is in vogue,
It attracts nerds, geeks and yuppies in major cosmopolitan cities around the world.
It has mystery.
It has divine revelation.
It has prophesy
It has a benevolent Monster and food themes that is guaranteed to win of the lost minds and hungry mouths of Nigerians.
And, it is a trinity of Spaghetti, Meatballs, and Holy Sauce.

And lastly, you can save 10% of your income by simply churching with us. wink

However, what we are not sure at this time is how the competition will receive the FSM church.
Although We do expect some initial hostility, but we are not sure of the scale of hostility to expect from the PFN(The Pentecostal Fraudsters Of Nigeria) who have aggressively cornered a sizable chunke of the market, and guard it jealously.

Anyway, I am seeking opinions and feedback on how to proceed and what to expect.
Your inputs will be highly appreciated...

And, you can also indicate your interest by registering here.

May the almighty FSM nourish and be with you.

Christianity Etc › Should Pastors Know What People Or Church Members Give? by tobechi20(op): 10:58pm On Aug 22, 2013
Should pastors know what people or church members are give? Is it the pastor’s business to know how much each person isgiving? What are biblical guidelines for what a pastorshould and should not know?

Giving to God is a very personal thing and the responsibility is between them and God.

Should Pastors Know What Members Give?
Giving offerings is not something that the pastor has any business sticking his nose into. If members don’t give much of anything or any thing at all, they are hurting the church some, yes, but they are hurting themselves more. At the church I pastor at, Ilike to have us use sealed envelopes for offerings so that we do not judge anyone over how much they give or don’t give. I admonish the treasurer to keep all donations private and don’t even share with me how much people give or how much they don‘t! Even if someone leaves a larger offering, I don’t want to know who gave how much unless that person comes up to me and tells me. I don’t want to know nor do I feel I need to know. It is none of my business. The matter of giving to God is completely between the giver and God. I do suggest that they gave what they can afford and give generously and cheerfully. That is the most important thing. It’s not howmuchyou give buthowyou give. Some can pay 10%, some can only give less, but others should be able to give more, but again, that’sa private matter as far as I am concerned, but certainly God blesses the generous person.
Christianity Etc › Re: Is It Gods Desire For Us To Be Rich by tobechi20(op): 10:40pm On Aug 22, 2013
Does God Want us to Be Rich?

God does want us to prosper in all things as John writes in 3 John 3:2-3“Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, as it goes well with your soul.” Some translations say “that you prosper in all things”but the better translation given above is more accurate andJohn’s prayer is that the church may be in good health and that it “may go well with you.” Sadly, many prosperity preachers take the wrong translation and would have John pray “that you prosper in all things.” God is not against people getting rich but He is against those who pursue riches. Paul wrote“For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich”(2 Corinthians 8:9)

If Jesus equated God’s blessing to having wealth, then Jesus was not blessed because Jesus says in Matthew 8:20 that“Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but theSon of Man has nowhere to lay his head.”Can we imagine if Jesus were living on earth today that He would drive a BMW and wear aRolex watch? Paul warned that he“who is covetous (that is, an idolater), has no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God”(Ephesians 5:5). Jesus said,“No servant can serve two masters, for either he will hatethe one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money”(Luke 16:13). In Luke 12:33-34 Jesus says the true riches will come to those who“sell all [their] possessions, and give to the needy. Provide yourselves with moneybags that do not grow old, with a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”That does not mean we should giveeverything away but we should give to storeup treasure in heavenand not on earth.
Someday, all things on this earth will be burned up but what is sent ahead to heavenwill remain forever. If you love money, you may not love the Lord. God is not against prosperity but against those who covet riches.“Those who are victorious will inheritall this [eternal life with God in heaven], and Iwill be their God and they will be my children.”( Revelation 21:7) because“if we are children, then we are heirs–heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ”(Romans 8:17).http://www.whatchristianswanttoknow.com/does-god-want-us-to-be-rich-a-bible-study/
Christianity Etc › Is It Gods Desire For Us To Be Rich by tobechi20(op): 10:37pm On Aug 22, 2013
Is it God’s desire for us to be rich? Is there anything wrong with pursing riches? What is God’s will for us and money?

Is Money the Root of All Evil?
There are more warnings about riches in theBible than there are ways in which money will help believers. Key verses in the Bible give us somber warnings about money.
1 Timothy 5:6-11 warns us that there will be“constant friction among people who are depraved in mind and deprived of the truth, imagining that godliness is a means of gain. But godliness with contentment is great gain, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content. But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.”
Money is not the root of all evil but the root of all kinds of evil. Money of itself is not evil but the pursuit of riches is. It is at the root or the bottom of all kinds of evil. My old history professor once said that if you look at human history you will always discover that money is the bottom line. The Jews associated wealth with having God’s favor but that is not supported by Scripture. Contentment is godliness as Paul wrote to Timothy, falling into the pursuit of riches people fall into great temptations. Imagine if you had all the money you could ever want. For most people, it is more than they can handle because they can have anything they want. Lust breeds sin and sin breeds death. Indeed, they are pierced through with “many pangs” because it corrupts the heart. Just as absolute power corrupts absolutely, absolute riches corrupt the human heart

The priemier league is near again . Every one you meet seem to be asking "which team you dey support"?. That is assuming every one must have a team he supports.

Imagine religion were football, you hate football so much. As soon as you see men with ball chasing a round object on the tv screen.you change th chanell in disgust.all the catching, throwing, dribbling, running seems silly and pointless.

Now majority of the world love this game you so much hate. Everyone is expected to belong to a fan team either officially or otherwise.for any reason. E.g arsenal for youth system, real madrid for stars.

Each time you are asked your team a,you politely inform them you are teamless.you observe the displeasure in ttheir face.

Some hate you instantly and insult you

some tell you its neccesarry to join one or discriminate against u

some scare u with consequence of not supporting anyteam

some ignore you and avoid you

some continue supporting their club to ur face hoping it would make u begin to like them

some inquire reasonswhy you hate football with a view of making you like them

some see it as one man meat is anoda man poison-praise their team/watch match outside but not in your presence.
