@ Olaolufred. Amen to that BUT let's not get that confident. Spurs are the form team currently with wins in their last 3 matches (Europe inc) and I know (and loathe) Harry Redknap will play his 1st 11. Rafa has confirmed Keane and Gerrard won't play but Torres should. Lets face it, they've definitely got the heart for this while we have our eyes set on the EPL.

I believe we'll nick it though.

@Bgees,

I don't agree with our defence facing aging issues. We have the youngest (average age) defence amongst the big 4. Ferdinand, Carvalho and Gallas are roughly age-mates while Agger and Skrtel are considerably younger than Toure, Vidic and Terry. AND we have the highest number of clean sheets so far. The truth is that teams have improved tactically so no match is a walk in the park.

What we need: A solid, creative Right winger and a class DR to deputise Arbeloa (who I seem to like more and more)

As for Spurs (ON WEDNESDAY), I really couldn't care less BUT for the fact that they simply can't be allowed to beat us twice in 2 wks. However our first teams needs a rest. I'd play

                    Cavalieri

      Darby Agger Hyppia Dossena

Pennant Lucas Alonso Babel/El Zhar

                  Benayoun

                      Torres

A trip to physical Bolton comes after this so we need to rest those dudes!

why is it that chelsea and other premiership club fans will pay any amount to watch Liverpool's match anticipating them to loose they pay to watch liverpool loose.

well let the boys keep doing the good work so the chelsky and other fans will have a lot of praying and fasting to do

KOPITES what is supposed to be done to RUBBISH KEANE since his move from SPURS he has been sought of a waste of resources (fowojona) against Athletico he killed us with a lot of missed chances and even When Agger oes upfront he has to contend with Keane instead of the Athletico defenders

i will prefer RAFA drops him to the bench maybe he gets to learn from that afterall we have the likes of Babel, Kuyt and even the younger Ngog and nabil elzah whose work rates has been more than what Rubbish Keane gives in when they have the chance to
Er, he scored 2 beauties on saturday, lets give him time. That guy is an excellent finisher. Class will always come through.

Ronaldo surely the King of Divers , Gerrard is just full of Cheats, Benitez coach of cheats
The saddest thing in life is encapsulated by the statement above. Think man, then write reasonably. It can't be that difficult surely; you might even find it quite stimulating.

Hype is hype. . . . I do not need to take opinions. . . .MOTD has convinced everyone that Gerrard is the greatest thing sincle sliced bread (no thanks to the unusual high no of ex-Liverpool players in the English press). . . . the fact that the last three England managers all preferred Lampard in their favourite position and that Benitez does not trust Gerrard in CM shows that general concensus is not always right. . . . . in 2004, if you ask Liverpool fans, they always repeat the mantra that Gerrard is the greatest midfielder in the world. . . . ignoring that guys like Zidane, Kaka and Deco are head and shoulders above. . . . . how many years has Gerrard played for England. . . . all we hear for the last 8 years is excuse after excuse. . . . Gerrard is a highlights player. . . . .watch the full game and you will see he cannot pass in tight spaces, often conceding possession, he has no left foot and frequently wanders from his position. . . . . the only thing that makes him look good on highlights is ability to make a surging run every 10 minutes and a brilliant long range shot. . . . other than that, Lamps outscores him every season, outpasses him and covers more ground, plus is way more disciplined. . . . . end of. . . . .

Gerrard, the great white hype. . . .

You seem to know better than proffessional analysts, don't you? That's okay BUT saying that Benitez doesn't trust Gerrard in the MC position makes me wonder if we're talking about the English Premier League here or the Globacom Premier League. If Lampard was played as ML, DR, AML, MR, AMR, MC, DMC or FC, then he'd have ended up at Luton FC. Gerrard's played in all these positions for England JUST to accomodate others because he's just that good. Name any other player that can do that! However everyone knows that his favourite position (which is the only position Lampard can play) is AMC. For that we love him.

Gerrard is a cheat!!!! He didnt ask for it but he dispatched it. How ironic even Rafa was defending him. Is this how low EPL teams have gone?
I read your comments on Liverpool threads and they always seem rational BUT this one's quite hypocritical. Can I ask you a question? What would you have done? Kick the ball into row Z. Apart from the fact you'll probably lose your job, have you even considered that your boss's job could be on the line too? Of course C.Ronaldo doesn't dispatch all those wrongful penalties grin He's such a nice, lovable lad.

Someone please hold crouchy down tonight. I'd love a 4-1 repeat of last season with Crouch scoring for them. They are weak defensively but very strong offensively. Hope babel gets a look in. Glen Johnson's injured so Riera should find some sort of joy down that left flank. Rest Kuyt, play Yossi or Pennant with El-Zhar as a substitute.

proud of the boys

If we're going to beat Man Shitty, we'll need all the discipline and patience we can muster. The attackers will have to take their chances and our defenders will have to be pinned in our half. Those guys attack quickly but lack disipline. I believe we can beat them convincingly.

I'm almost sorry for N'gog, the bloke didn't do himself any favour against Aston Villa. But I feel he'd add a different dimension to our attacking threat. Keane almost seems to take up Torres' space.

Good passing, awareness, energy and spirit But we played into their hands and were too predictable with crosses to no one in particular. It was so frustrating.

however, seeing the stamford draw made it not so bad after all. Torres has been rather frustrating and keane needs to deliver pronto! I need a brick wall to bang my skull against! cry

I think Hannibal needs to take this defeat like a man and stop spitting at people making jibes at the Mancs. After all they played poorly (THOUGH only because the magnificent Reds forced them into those errors). Even Fergie admitted that "They (Liverpool) were BY FAR the better team"

@ Cristino, as long as you're not a fair-weather fan, you're welcome. Liverpool fans are known for three things, support, decency and loyalty as you will soon find out.

I'm glad to be back here as I've been walking on the moon since saturday. We made those boys seem so ordinary withou Gerrard and Torres. Bgees was spot on about Skrtel. He and Mascherano are my best Liverpool players and they did me proud. It reminded me of the Liverpool vs Juventus match of 2005 where we battled like mad men and put Juve to the sword.

Nobody mentioned Riera on his debut huh The guy was immense.

Now to Marseille, a happy hunting ground for us.

Ramos is trying hard to build a team for the future but the League is moving on too fast for that. Wenger should have realized that by now. Before I say anything here, can I just mentioned that Ajiteru is very childish and really should be treated as such.

I was terribly disappointed yesterday. Leige played like Barca ONLY because the Reds let them. Our boys were visibly intimidated and our passing game went out the window! We kept losing aerial battles which Skrtel and Hyppia are known to handle (Pity none of them played.

I hope Gerrard and Masch return to the team quickly as we lost in the midfield battles too. Hope all goes well at Anfield nxt week.

I think most football analysts will tell you that it was AC MILAN vs LIVERPOOL 2005 CL Final. It was a rollercoaster unfit for the faint hearted. Imagine being a supporter of either club!!! It was a miracle of football. Scoring 3 goals in 6 minutes against MILAN of 2005!!

Hi guys, no one mentioned the fact that Liverpool fans were voted the most physically attractive in the premiership with Portsmouth voted the most unattractive. Must have seen my picture somewhere cool

Well to business. After seeing ALL our pre-season games (Live or Delayed) I made the ff observations;

1. Dossena's been one of the best players so far and looks a massive step up from calamity Riise
2. Agger's back!
3. Keane's trying too hard to score. He needs to relax a bit.
4. Alonso has just got to stay. The guy's won MOTM for the matches against Rangers and Valeranga.
5. Ngog (at 19yrs) seem to be a class-act in the making. He's right-footed but has scored 2 outstanding goals with his left.
6. Plessis, Spearing and Darby are ready for the first team BUT Nemeth, Pacheco and Elzhar need a year @ least.
7. I miss Mascherano and I value Yossi BUT Pennant's been 'not too good'(Though he hasn't featured much)
8. Our passing has been spectacular but finishing needs to improve
9. I can't wait for next season!

FINALLY something bizarre-----

10. The same set of  players scored in two consecutive matches- Alonso, Torres, Ngog and Benayoun. What are the odds of that happening? match fixing?

One big RED love, y'all!!!

Just imagine Babel, Gerrard, Keane and Torres bearing down on you ( a defender) in a 4-pronged attack. You'd turn to your coach and give him a long cold stare with a deep feeling of betrayal! grin

Seriously i'm happy with Keane and hope Alonso Stays. Alonso+Masch pairing's the way forward for the Reds.

Toshmann, good to have you back.

I'd love Keane to come to Anfield, I'm a long-time fan of the guy and what I love most about his play is his sense of maturity and flair. I say play him and let Babel develop under the guy.

As for Barry, with Alonso we don't really need him. I vote for getting D.Silva instead for our wing issues.

On deggen, i'm not really impressed with his pre-season form ( I watched those games on Lfctv). The new keeper looks very good and Dossena's rugged.

Heard Arbeloa may be leaving for Spain and that we may be re-opening our Rafinha interest- the boy is class!

All in all, we've gotta move quick because UEFA CL qualifiers are just 2 wks away!!

Oh! I don't rate pre-season games without our Spanish Quartet. I'll draw conclusions against Lazio and co.

Why? i saw the tranmere vs liverpoool match this week and in the 2nd half Skrtel, Agger and hyppia played together with Skrtel on the right. Yes, I admit that Skrtel is my best defender but Hyppia's passing and consistency at his age is the stuff of legends. hope to see a replay of Fc lucerne 1 vs 2 liverpool. I've downloaded the goals though and all i can say is;

1. Lucas has got potential
2. Voronin's goal was special
3. That kid, Pacheco, will definitely turn out better than torres!
4. Good to have Babel back
5. Degen has gotto improve his defensive game.

huh

They say Blatter is silly, but those comments make him seem so wise.

Okay, let's say Red Star, Grasshoppers and Dynamo Zagreb meet the likes of Barcelona in the finals. Then we'll see;

1. How much Uefa will lose(financially and interest)
2. How exciting the match will be
3. How many fans will bother turning up for matches
3. If Doyin will bother renewing his cable (or whatever) subscription to watch Belfast Fc Vs Fc Twente! grin

Believe it or not the English 'big 4' contribute a lot to the CL fun factor and saying you're bored with them indicates something either wrong or wrong and scary.

DOSSENA SIGNS FOUR-YEAR DEAL

Andrea Dossena has today put pen to paper on a four-year Anfield deal.
The Italian full-back becomes Rafael Benitez's second acquisition of the summer following the arrival of Swiss international Philipp Degen.

Dossena, who has been capped once at senior level by Italy, is seen as the ideal replacement for John Arne Riise, who departed for Roma earlier this month.

The 26-year-old began his career aged 14 with Hellas Verona in northern Italy, coming through the ranks before spending four seasons in the senior squad.

His big break came when he signed for Udinese in 2005, though he was immediately loaned to Treviso FBC 1993 for a year.

The defender returned to the Stadio Friuli ahead of the 2006-07 campaign, where his form eventually saw him make his international bow in a friendly against South Africa in October 2007.

By the end of the season his move to Merseyside had been confirmed, with Dossena saying: "Liverpool are a great team, and it is great to be linked to such a famous club. I want to play Champions League football, the Reds have already won it and they often get to the big games. In England, they are on the same level as Manchester United."
