I just want you people to be aware of financial situations of your teams so that they don't end up like Leeds United, Parma or even Lazio.

So you're saying that if we take your words seriously, these clubs won't go into melt-down? That's a bit silly. You also sound like a character from a Dan Brown novel who stumbles upon a hidden truth and desperately needs to tell the world amidst life threatening circumstances grin

Truth is; I understand your irritation for fans who don't know diddly-squat about their club runnings but some of us know about these issues. However, unless someone on Nairaland can cough up the millions to get these clubs debt-free, I don't see why you're ranting like a one-man crusader!

Just enjoy the game while you live and your club still exists! wink

Awwww! That's not fair, Wenger's not gay! He's just pedophilic. Fergie, on the other hand, is gay. Rafa is horribly fat and Ancelotti's getting personal TV rights for his massive head. tongue

Hi all, since we're on a horrible lack-of-football patch in our lives, I felt the need to see what our favourite players were up to. As a Red, I was glad to hear that Arbeloa, Torres, Pepe, Alonso, Lucas and Riera all got married THIS SUMMER!!

Got some misc pics here and you can put up yours if you've got 'em. cool

By the way, I think Alonso and Nagore take the couple of the lot!

As a Liverpool fan I'm angry with Owen for betraying the club AGAIN! He left for Madrid for money amidst pleas from the fans. Got wrecked there and returned to obscurity with Newcastle. Now he shows NO respect for his boyhood club by joining the scum of the earth.

On the bright side, he'll only make the scum worse! grin grin grin
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Re: Manchester United Fan Thread: Champions Of England! by tocdee(m): 8:17am On Jul 02, 2009
There's a trend here: when Utd lost out on Ronaldinho, their fans declared him overated and a show-pony. We all know what happened soon after. Same thing happened after Fergie was turned down by Torres after a 3-year attempt to sign him; Utd fans claimed he wouldn't last in the EPL grin grin grin

Now its Benzema. Fergie had tracked the lad for two years and barely lost out yesterday and then these same fans are grateful they lost him! Don't say that to Fergie's face! Priceless! cheesy

Puvguy:

I concur. The guy is simply over-rated his ratio of goals is poor.

There's no other yardstick to judge a striker to me.

I agree with Dr Kitaun, he was a passanger at Euro cup.

So was Torres' goal ratio before he moved to Liverpool, same with Henry before Arsenal and Forlan before Athletico. Using that yard-stick of yours, Rooney and Berbatov won't even make the cut (though they are valued higher in the market). How many strikers have had better goal ratios at that age? Name them. Benzema is still an uncut diamond and that's why he's highly sought after.

He's a natural striker and would definitely outscore Rooney or Berbatov given the chance to play at utd.

Dr Kitaun:

negative !!!

Benzema was an obscure quantity at the last Euro cup, yes or no ?

how can a player that hasnt proven himself at the global stage be termed Galaticos ?

Bitter aren't you? grin grin grin grin grin
Benzema performed very well in the past UEFA CL competitions and is easily one of the hottest prospects in world football. And he's just 21!!

Funny isn't it? Almost like Madrid are out to prove a point to the Mancs; buying off their best player, Ronaldo, and making sure they don't spend the GBP80M by stealing their proposed replacements Benzema and Ribery (soon) as well as putting in an inital bid for another Utd target, Villa. It's almost as if the Manc scouts are working for them! embarassed embarassed

Hope those bullies just stay off Xabi Alonso!  tongue

so Gerrard is better than kaka, interesting, very interesting

Is that surprising? Judging from recent performance, Kaka has been injury-plagued and Gerrard has been the better player over the past 2 years both domestically and in Europe. A comparison between goals scored and assists should suffice. If Gerrard was Brazilian, he would have won the Fifa Player of the Year by now and Lampard would have been close too. By the way, I'm a keen admirer of Kaka; one of my favourite players.

Rafa does not want to sell Arbeloa, the player just yearns to return to Real Madrid where he started. I don't blame the lad neither will I miss him. However, I'd love for him to stay as he's a solid utility player; LB, RB and DC.

As for Glen Johnson's fee, any first team player in England's national team would cost just as much plus The UEFA CL quota system requires a certain amount of home-grown players in the registered team. That's why Hyppia missed out of the group stages last term.

As regards ESPN, well except the hire British guys who understand that football ain't soccer and that the EPL is as good as a way of life, me thinks they can't do much to surpass Setanta. Plus, damn its very strange to me when these Americans anaylse soccer.
ME just try not to listen at all.

Clap! Clap! Clap!

Hearing my dear sport being referred to as 'soccer' makes me very sick. Secondly, I avoid MLS cos of the American accents of their commentators. I just hope they stick to British commentary.

Villa shits on them both currently . . .

but over time, Etoo has been phenomenal . . .

who and where was Torres couple of seasons ago ? IN THE LAND OF OBSCURITY !

That's a terrible premise to support your argument. Torres was FAR more popular at 23 (2 seasons ago) than Eto was at the same age. Real Madrid, Arsenal and United had repeatedly tried to sign him and he replaced the great Raul in the Spanish national team for Germany 2006 and scored their first goal at the competition(3 years ago). That's not Obscurity my friend.

Some also say Torres isn't great cos he hasn't got a lot of trophies. That's bullsh*t! The bloke has got so many personal awards and that's what we are discussing here, isn't it? Plus how many team trophies has Villa got. How many has Eto led Cameroun to? All these players are great. End of.

God bless you man. I was about to add Yekini to that list!

@ Krayola

It's good to know you prefer Torres to Eto
but based on stats. Eto is the best!

He is one of only two players, along with Raúl González, to have scored in two UEFA
Champions League finals.

Based on stats, Inzaghi is the best. But awards are not necessarily awarded on stats grounds alone. Also when you compare stats between two players of different ages, you don't do justice to the younger. Eto has played more matches than Torres so stats would definitely favour him.

dayokanu:

Thank you A40 for that reminder of the screamer against Brazil.

Etoo dwarfs Torres everywhere.

Apart from the Fifa World Player of The Year Awards.

dayokanu:

AT Lesser clubs Mallorca and Atletico, Etoo outperformed Torres winning the Cope del rey

Sure, he was older (African age too grin), and you make it sound like he beat Torres to the trophy on his own! Like nadal vs Federer. grin By that reasoning,  Utaka has won the FA cup so he's better than Torres.  grin

dayokanu:

At Big clubs Barca and Liverpool Etoo out performed Torres Scoring vital; goals he has won Pichichi how many times now?

That's a terrible statement. Torres has been at Liverpool for only two years so ALL comparison should be made with this time-frame in mind. Torres scored 50 goals in this time, Eto?

dayokanu:

Etoo is highest goal scorer at African nations cup of all time

Imagine Spain being moved to CAF, then think of all the goals Torres and Villa would score in a single tournament!! My point is this; I can score against countries like Sudan, Zambia, Libya etc. But scoring against Germany, Czech, Italy, etc? That's a different proposition. So again, poor argument.

dayokanu:

Etoo>>>>>>>>> Torres

Now I rate Eto VERY highly but that statement was kinda desperate, don't you think?
Sports / Re: The Best Striker In The World by tocdee(m): 10:06am On Jun 15, 2009

@ Tocdee,

Torres did not score against Villa and Birmingham in his debut season.

I mentioned the Birmingham bit in my earlier post but you're right, he didn't score against Villa either. But Villa park was his debut ground that season and he was injured for the Anfield leg.
