Another point for Torres is that he rarely scores two consecutive goals the same way. And 80% of his goals are classic beauties.
Sometimes I think I see a pair of wings on his back when he plays - Torres is an angel,so heavenly!

And if striking was an art like painting, Torres would have been Van Gogh.

Strikers like Eto, Villa, RVN, Raul, Inzaghi, Torres, etc are great but NONE is known for 30-yarders from open play. On the other hand, Midfielders like Lampard, Ronaldo, Alonso, Gerrard, Veron and Zidane are/were excellent with long-range strikes. My point; when you're always around or within the 18 yard box, you simply don't develop that skill to very high levels.

2) Eto'o and David Villa are hungrier, with a humongous work-rate.
I agree that these guys are classy strikers but no one can say that Torres does not work harder than both. In fact Eto has been criticized for seeming uninterested in certain games in the past and came under a lot of stick with the fans. Did you see Torres paly against Madrid or Utd? The guy had pain-killing injections for his ankle prior to those matches and still put in a man-of-the-match peformance in each of them. For Athletico, he was said to burn out before seasons ended because he tried to carry his team along at a tender age. Hence him being made captain at 17!

Some Utd comments there clearly stated him as being the best striker in the world. But since anyone would do, maybe utd should sign Heskey. Trust me, those same fans will not be too happy smiley.

Did you know; Torres first season in the Epl saw him score against every EPL team at least once except Utd (he's achieved that) and Birmingham.

Liverpool V West Brom. . . . .Rafa knows this team would come to Anfield and pack the bus and yet he would use his best defence unit.

Tuncay. . . never !!!
Why? I rate him very highly especially after his heroics for Turkey during the Euros. Funny enough, I told my brother about 3 months ago that I'd love the bloke to come to Merseyside. His touches are good and he could play as a striker or in the hole.

I'm almost relieved Barry didn't come. Not needed imo. As bgees mentioned, Jay Spearing could be blooded into the team. The lad's got talent and recently, I watched him score a magnificent hat-trick for the reserves. He's short but so is Barca's trio of Iniesta, Messi and Xavi.

I hope we get Glen Johnson too.

Jarzinho mentioned the Uche's. SPOT ON!!! Ikechukwu Uche has got the dribble skills of Messi  grin ! I rate those guys above Silva, honestly since the latter doesn't seem physically up to the rigours of the EPL.

How old was Fab4 when he carried Arsenal on his shoulder or how old was CR7 when he did same.

EPL made Torres he wasnt up to it before coming to Liverpool and he confessed that the foolishness of EPL defenders and keepers make him look special
Rubbish! Torres was captain of an average Athletico at 17 and fans demanded so much from him. Saying Fabregas carries Arsenal along is very insulting to the club. CR7 only came into the spotlight amidst many stars at Utd so there was little pressure on the bloke. Correct me but his first 2 seasons in the EPL didn't yield up to 10 goals smiley.

Why are we arguing this? Torres was the only striker to make it into FIFA's top 5 this year. tongue

Do you even watch Torres play for Spain? He does all the hard work behind Villa while the latter does the scoring. And Torres is much better at leading the line in a sole role. Villa DOES NOT play as a lone-striker for Spain BUT Torres did an excellent job there against Germany at the Euro finals when villa got injured.
Aerially?? Plus he scored a lot more in the same way last season. How many did Ronaldo score with his conceited head? Klose is special aerially but even he is going a bit downhill. And Vidic? LOL!!!
He needs to win a title fast and Liverpool are not heading in that direction at all.
I found this line quite amusing. You can't resist, can you? Liverpool improved this season in leaps and bounds WHILE United, Chelsea and Arsenal actually didn't improve on last season's perfomance. Also they broke so many of their club records taking maximum points off Utd and Chelsea (home and away), had the least losses (2), scored the highest number of goals in the league with Gerrard and Torres playing together just 13 times while inflicting Utd's greatest EPL defeat at Old Trafford! I call that progress.

A win against Wigan and Stoke instead of draws would have seen them lift the trophy. NOW THAT"S PROGRESS. cool

PS- The average age of the Liverpool's first team is lower than that at Utd(And this includes managerial staff ages). So there's time, don't you think?
Sports › Re: The Best Striker In The World by tocdee(m): 4:57pm On Jun 03, 2009
Let's put it this way;
1. EVERY MANAGER IN THE WORLD WOULD WANT TO HAVE EITHER TORRES OR VILLA IN HIS TEAM (WHO CARES WHAT little sauron SAYS ABOUT TORRES ANYWAY?).

2. They belong to a class where the world expects them to score whenever they take to the pitch

3. Aerially, Torres is in a class of his own. Villa has better close ball control.

4. Torres WILL achieve legend status since age is on his side.

5. Eto is an excellent striker. Third best for me.

6. The above points are just my opinion.

Scoring a penalty from 12 yards with a keeper in the middle of the goal-post or scoring tap-ins from 2 yards in the empty nets.
Torres does not take penalties and freekicks? It simply means his ability is a tad limited.

There are many strikers who can do that.

who are just as ( if not more technical and clinical), how many guys on here watch valencia

Athletico madrid, Wolfsburg week in week out?

[b]bottomline a striker that produces a superb performance in an average club is better than a striker

You've got it all wrong there mate. Playing at a big club is always more difficult for any striker with increased pressure. You mentioned players like Forlan, etc. He was superb, went to Utd, appeared poor, left and immediately turned superb again! Coincidence? i think not. Same thing happened to Robbie keane.

The cream always rises to the top and the greatest strikers shine in the biggest games; That's why Drogba (FA cup), Eto (Champions League final), Torres (Euro finals) peform brilliantly even with millions of people watching.

I feel a striker who has scored 50 goals in his first two seasons in a foreign league, while playing alone upfront and amidst so many injuries in the same period deserves that vote. Eto'o has players like Henry, messi and Iniesta laying balls at his feet so his job's a lot easier.
As Krayola put it, Torres is simply a beast especially when playing as a lone striker.
