~Sauron~:

Giggsy's performance against Chelsea is strong enough to make him the PFA Player of The Year.

WoW! LoL! SoS!

Talk about a stus-changing 90 mins (or less) of a man's life! grin

Modric had an excellent game against Chelsea, so did Van Persie and Dempsey. They must be on another list. Hell, I could enlist for West Brom, have a blinder against Chelsea and voila! I'm on that list! Legend!

@Debo

Gabby was not yet 23 at the time nominations were made, which is why he didn't make the senior category.

As for Torres. . .he was out injured a number of times this season, wasn't he?

I don't think age was Gabby's problem, if I recall correctly, Ronaldo won it at the age of 22 and later at 23. As for Torres being absent, Giggs has had even less time on the field this season. However I admit Torres shouldn't be there due to lack of playing time and that's why I believe players like Alonso and Lampard would feel highly unappreciated.

we can even understand tocdee's fraustration cos Gerrard should be there, or even Torres

but whats the problem with these Gaynners?

Sylvestre ko, Gibbs ni grin grin grin

grin grin grin . I think its more of disbelief than frustration! But at least Gerrard's there. Torres has even been more impressive than Giggs, Rio and VDS put together!!  grin

Fellaini anyone? Dempsey?

@tocdee

 Each member of the PFA nominates two players every Spring.  .  .that should be September in the UK (if that crappy climate allows them Spring grin ). Then the shortlist is made in April. Not sure when the nominations get closed though.

Going by this, when the nominations were going on, United were rocking it, and they did bounce Liverpool from the top spot. Chelsea - wobbling along. I agree, this thing should be based on the entire season, but.  .  .season's almost over.

You make very valid points though I really don't think Spring comes in September anywhere in the world. More like March/April. Again these awrds should be based solely on personal contributions NOT team position, don't you agree? Lampard must be kicking his locker now!!

why shouldnt Giggs be on the list?

to me, hes one of UTDS best peformer till date

11 starts. 12 substitute appearances. 1 goal. Let's all have a good laugh at Utd's best performer!   grin  grin   grin

@tocdee

 The nominations took place before United's current dip in form.  .  .when the nominations were on United were on top, in great shape and thrashing every team in sight. And VDS was breaking goalie records.
Then, Liverpool were somewhere in the crowd grin

That's the problem why vote for PFA player of the year based on the first few months of the season? These votes are made in January (I believe) so what is Ronaldo doing there when he missed the most part of 6 weeks at the start of the season? Also VDS is only as good as his impressive defence which we've all seen over the past month or so with injuries/suspensions to Rio and Vidic. Alonso and Lampard over VDS and Rio for me though.

P.S Liverpool were not 'in the crowd' in January, they were top of the league smiley !

When I saw this list on Sky, I initially thought it was a bad joke but unfortunately, its real.

Can anyone here 'look me in the eye' and tell me why Giggs (Sympathy Vote), Ronaldo and Rio are there ahead of Alonso and Lampard? Van Persie's even more concievable than Giggs who hasn't even made up to 10 starts this season!!!!!!!! Ronaldo has been highly criticized by Utd fans and recently, his manager for his work ethic. Rooney would have made a better nominee.

And don't even get me started on Van Der Sar; it makes one wonder what players like Haangeland, Jagielka, Tim Cahill, Kevin Davies and co have to do to get recognized.

Used to look forward to the PFA awards but questions have got to be asked here.

Gerrard or Vidic for the Award. Gerrard for me as a RED!! grin

So its 4-0! 4 excellently taken goals. Same result on Tuesday please wink wink.

Its nice for Switch to believe (and I should) but it's a tall order in the CL. EPL is a serious possibility though.

Although i support neither team i was happy Liverpool got hammered yesterday. The hype about Benitez been a europe CL specialist is all over. Liverpool were humilated , disgraced and shattered. They couldnt have an answer to Hiddinks methodology of attack , attack and attack!!! It was these same reds that cheated us out of the CL last year.

Lets now talk about Chelsea vs Barcelona as the 2nd leg of their 2 Q/F is as good as useless.

C'mmon Gunners  its your year!!!!

These comments show how little of football people know. EVERY team has an off-day. Liverpool were poor by their standards but that's only their first home-loss in over a year. Arsenal were beaten at home by Hull, Liverpool by Chelsea, Man Utd by Liverpool, and Chelsea by Liverpool. That's why its a beautiful game.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Re: UCL :Liverpool (1) Vs Chelsea (3) on Wed 8th April by tocdee(m): 11:12am On Apr 09, 2009
To be honest, I still can't believe i was watching Liverpool yesterday. We had a dream start, scored, rolled our mats, turned off the lights and went home! grin grin Lucas, Aurelio, Gerrard and Riera all let the team down. Kuyt, Alonso and Reina were the only players that came to the fore. Mascherano was sorely missed. However it really doesn't hurt me as much as it should because I decided a while ago to see football for what it truly is; a game wink .

But fair play to Chelsea, even the hardest Liverpool fan would agree that the better team (of the day) won.

If Barca wasn't in the way, I'd have bet on a Chelsea vs Barca final.

P.S- Where did all these Phantom Fair-weather Chelsea Supporters spring from?? smiley

we can go ahead and make this topic hit its 100th page, but it wudn't change the actual score of the match. predictions doesnt hold water when it comes to d tactical approach a team gives to win a game.Liverpool may be in the scoring form of their lives, and chelsea may have not scored more than three goals since Gius came to the Bridge,but have we ever pondered that everytime Liverpool were knocked out of the champions league, they played their 1st game at home,and go ahead and be thrown out of UCL for insufficient goals scored. This is history.any team who hopes to proceed must also pray to have her first match on an away soil.i sure professionals know what i'm talking about

Professionals should understand what you're saying but I doubt they're on these boards. We're NOT professionals unfortunately. Just fans cheering the clubs we support!  cool cool cool cool

I was just wondering. . .Has Chelsea scored more than 2 goals in a match since Hiddink came to the Bridge? I feel the tie will come down to who scores more.

Is it me or was that defeat by Liverpool more devastating than we originally felt? The Mancs have shipped 10 goals in four consecutive matches!

Another thing that annoys me is the fact that they aren't even giving Porto any credit. Typical MANic arrogance; "we win, we played well; we lose. we had an off-day".  sad

On a lighter note, Porto's late goal came in the midst of the chorus; 'Glory, Glory Man United'. The silence that ensued was almost deafening! grin grin

you are lucky you guys escaped a marauding at El Madrigal yesterday night. so that gives you the mouth to talk.
today's game at Anfield is Chelsea's victory. like it or not.

You love Anfield don't you? You have 'The gates of Anfield' as your line (under your name) wink. That said, Liverpool haven't been beaten at home in all competitions this season. What makes you think Chelsea can beat them there? anything can happen in football BUT I see Liverpool charged up for this. If they play at anything close to the tempo they used against Real Madrid or Aston Villa at home, I doubt slow players like Drogba, Anelka, Lampard, Mikel, Deco, Malouda, Ballack and Ivanovic would be able to live with it.

A lot depends on Cech today.

You're quite a gambler, aren't you?  I suggest you place more value on those things especially seeing as Chelsea have managed to score one penalty and a Riise own goal at Anfield in their last 5 attempts in all competitions!  shocked

2-0
1-0
1-1 Lampard Penalty (Referee later apologized to Liverpool for the bad decision)
1-1 Riise own-goal
2-0
