I think this question is better directed to people who know what it takes to make high-value sales here or on Namepros.

However, in my opinion, I think the keyword GPT is a bit more generic - just a bit. Besides, the keyword ChatGPT would make longer domain names and, as you may be aware, shorter is better.

I have also only seen a few sales with the GPT one, none with ChatGPT. By the way, a precursor of the latter was called InstructGPT - observe the pattern.

Anyone interested in registering GPT names may take a look at these ones and see if any is worth taking a punt on.

I dont think so. I hardly comment on this thread but when i see a sale that i will like to get someday, i like to get more info on the sale. No matter how little the seller can provide. But in the case of this sale, no info whatsover. I dont know if you are a newbie or oldie but the esseence of sales report is for the seller to provide info to help other domainers even if it is not all the info. Little info help other domainers in their domaining journey.

You say people are jealous but you've not learnt one thing about the name sold.

No name, no cost price, no niche nothing. How do you want to grow as a domainer from that. Its better he doesnt even post anything.

Did you see the earlier, lower-amount sales that he posted? If you did, I guess that would do. It's best known to him why he decided to not fully reveal those high-figure sales.

What's even worse is that several of those countering him don't even post sales here - they probably do so in some closed groups somewhere, if at all. And if you asked them for a little of their knowledge here, they won't respond.

There are several people that I have asked questions here over the years and they never responded. I don't whine; I just move on with the little info I have. Nobody really owes anyone in this life - well, that's what I have observed.

If you are not seeing sales...dont think everyone is experiencing the same...there are some people that have grown above that. This i say with experiences of some close friends that i have.

On the bold, how do you do that? Is there any formula or tool(s) you use for pricing, please?

I find it hard to price domains as high as 3k because I have been struggling to know how valuable some domains could be. I think I have less than 10 priced higher than 2k out of hundreds of non-geo domain names.

@protocol, I was thinking about the helpful expository post you made here days ago (on 11th) and I thought to seek further clarification on a couple of things:

1. Do you send the second email in the same email thread as the first (follow-up) or as a fresh email?

2. Given that you set minimum offer as 499, what is the typical price you'd counter with if you received that offer amount for a domain listed for 988 or 1288?

Hi all,
i must confess that selling domains is not a very easy task at all. Out of these sales and some few others that sold, i still have very many that did not sell. But the good thing is that i try to renew almost all my names. some of these domains sold through outbound on Dan while some sold on afternic.

Almost all my names go through outbound. I do this not for immediate sale but also to create awareness that such name exist. I send first mail and then second. I do not reduce my price which is always 988 or 1288. I set minimum offer on Dan which is 499, this way, i dont get low ball offers except few that brings lesser offer through mail. [ if you are just starting, this might not work for you.]

I usually dont buy much domains i dont wish to renew. This helps me not to be in a haste to sell. Large portfolio size plays a role too. Semi auto[ not full auto] email collection is very important too. If you dont collect emails right, you might have a hard time selling.

Budget is important. If you are on a small budget, the result is also small. Almost all names are from Ed.

With my portfolio size which is fast approaching 2k , i get passive sales as well. I send first mails on Mondays, follow up which is the final mail on Thursdays.

Great open rate is necessary. i use mailtrack.io for each of my about 10 gmails for outbound. Send mail on monday and by thursady the mail has rested and ready for the second mail. E mails needs to rest for a great open rate.

A daytime job will help when sales run far. one month after outbound of a domain without its sale, i most times increase its price.

These are few things i do that works for ME. It might differ from what works for others.

Sales haven't been flowing well in recent months. I haven't sold a single Geo in like 4-5 months despite doing outbound marketing as usual.

And I still wonder how people get sales from YP leads. They haven't impressed in all the years I have been working with them as a last resort of sort.

Went well. In fact, the only seller I approached accepted it (N500).

Some sellers had even been collecting it all along before the announcement last night, just that you'd pay more for what you're buying.

This kain people na part of the reasons I use domain privacy. They showed me pepper in the days of registrations at GoDaddy, Dotster, and DirectNIC. Thank God for Namesilo!

When I tried registering an expired domain name yesterday, I saw a price of $9.73. I had to go back and click the link from the email I received only to see that an offer that's supposed to last until 31 March had ended!

I just had to settle for unplanned registrations at Dynadot make my research no waste. Luckily, that registrar offered a price of 8.69.

The truth is that the old naira is still a legal tender technically. You can't use it to buy goods and services but you can still deposit same in your bank via CBN. The POS guys here in my area still receive the old notes because they can send it to the bank. So vote buying with the old notes is still very possible.

I haven't been 100% certain that the move will curb vote-buying from the start. I was almost having a heated argument with someone on this two days ago until I decided to let them bask in their "wisdom."

Some market women are even accepting the old notes around here. The condition is just that you won't be getting change - you have to buy something worth the old note you give them. Of course, you may also pay higher than if you were using "legal" notes.

Let me drop by two cents on this.

With the reported "fake" Swetha sale reports, I'd advise caution on bumping the price. XYZ sales are still happening but the prices aren't very high.

I don't know what you saw before registering that domain name - that should determine whether to hold or drop. I only gambled on most of those that I registered, so I intend dropping them if not sold. I will renew a smaller fraction.

How many other extensions of the same name are registered? How many views is the domain name getting monthly relative to others in the portfolio? Those are two of the criteria I use to decide on renewals, plus what I think possible use cases might be. I think that extension is more fitting for the technology industry, especially the metaverse, crypto, and the likes.

While I don't have the above information for your domain name, I wouldn't renew it if I was to make a decision with my limited knowledge by looking at it right now. Don't get me wrong, though, it could sell to someone that sees the value.

He is correct. Because Afternic tolerated violations over the long term never made it right. They are now simply cracking down.

Some trademarks frantically speaking are legal scams. Botox and Realtors are trademarked names which just isn't fair. Nevertheless, the law must be respected.

For many other brands however, companies spent millions, if not tens of billions building up the brands and so are justified fighting tooth and nail to protect their investments.

Even you have failed to comment on the sample names that I cited were being used by established businesses online. The internet is replete with such for different motor brands - I only provided a couple examples. Those names merely suggested specialization!

Your comment would have been more balanced and objective if you addressed those examples I provided and why they are allowed.

Thank Goodness that Afternic isn't the only marketplace, although it's the leader. I successfully listed all those names on Dan and all but one on Sedo.

If that's the case, then the domain names are obvious trademark infringements. These types of domain names are risky investments.

It'd be super easy for the trademark owners to take them from you. Plus, savvy business owners will avoid them like the plague so it would be difficult for you to sell.

Maybe Afternic is trying to crack down on names like that because they've been receiving a lot of complaints.

I think Sedo does the same thing.

That said, I don't think they have the right to judge on trademark issues. But you must be regging blatant trademarks for 5 of your names to be flagged in such a short period of time.

I haven't been registering a lot of domain names compared to the past and that makes things even more suspicious. And yes, I know about trademarks and I try to avoid them unless it's not very apparent. I never had any issues related to that until last year.

By the way, two of these domains were already listed for months before I had to relist them because of unintentional deletion or Fast Transfer activation.

You didn't comment about the "AustinChevrolet" example - a type of domain name that's common among US auto dealerships. Also, would you say mercedesspecialistbucks (co.uk), mercedesexpert (king), and mercedesexpertpompano (king) are also infringing trademarks? These are established, high-ranking websites.

Or could you or anyone else also tell how "scholastics" is a trademark term?

Is anyone else here also experiencing what I have been experiencing in recent months at Afternic? More and more domain names are being rejected because of the so-called trademark reason.

I had never experienced anything of this sort at Afternic until towards the end of 2022. Since then, around five domains have been rejected for this reason.

Yet, no further explanation would be provided when requested. I mean how do you say something like "(car brand) expert," for example, flouts trademark?

I have seen people sell city+car brand (e.g. AustinChevrolet, not a real sale) without any issue. So what are they claiming?

Yes. Some registrars will not send the opt-in email until after 60 days. Even if they did and you opted in, Afternic will not recognise that until after 60 days. This is because of the standard transfer lock after initial registration.

I tried outbounding with my professional email through Titan/hostinger mail but most of the messages are going to spam. Abeg those using custom mails what is they way out.

Personal opinion: stick to Gmail for your outbound.

Just ensure that you are not sending too many emails and that you are receiving emails, especially replies, as well. GMass warming tool used to help with this, but sadly Google has forced it to be shut down.

Custom email addresses are easily penalised for spam. The associated domain (not just an email address) would be marked as spam and all emails from it are more likely to land in spam folders. Such email addresses may be better suited when you are contacting limited leads with them and strictly manually.

The Gmail domain cannot be easily penalised because it's not restricted to an entity or person.

All banks I have been to wouldn't have the sort of difficulty I witnessed if any of them had this sort of money and made it available. I mean they were paying no more than N20,000 (that high in only one instance and supposedly) and as low as N1,000. Yet, it didn't take long before the money got exhausted.

This is not to say that I stand with the CBN - not a fan. I am only saying multiple parties, including banks (as in this case), market people and POS agents, are complicit.
