Pentolution:
the church doctrine is against divorce. remarriage after divorce even makes it worse.
With all due respect the church should go and learn the meaning of marriage.
marriage is based upon the giving of free, informed consent. if consent was not free e.g a marriage forced upon a woman is invalid. so too a marriage based of misinformation, distortion of information and withholding of information that can affect consent...the marriage is invalid ab initio, informed consent was never given.

there was never a marriage, so this isnt a remarriage case.

Fr Ohazulume is a priest of Nnewi diocese. He is from Ubahu Okija in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State. He worked last as the Parish Priest of St Charles Borromeo Parish , Lilu in Ihiala Local Government Area in 2007 before going to the U. S.
The girl in question was his niece, the daughter of his Sister. The girl became a wayward girl and the father sent her to Nigeria for her secondary school . She came back to Nigeria and got pregnant from one boy here in Nigeria. The baby was left in Nigeria and the father brought her back to the U. S . There in America, an African American impregnated her again. She left her family and was living alone. So the Priest called her and was rebuking her that she is a disgrace to their family with her wayward life. The girl threatened the priest with this word " I will deal with you " .Fr Ohazulume never took that threat serious. She told her friend about her uncle priest and together with her friend that reported the matter to the diocese planned to deal with her uncle. The story we are reading now is the threat she carried out.

something happened in my RCCG parish today. a lady was suspended indefinitely for divorcing her husband and remarrying. her husband who is also a worker hid his HIV status from his wife before they married. after a while she kept falling sick and went to the hospital to run a test, only to find out she a HIV positive. it was devastating to her since she was a strong Christian and married her husband as a virgin. she confronted him about it and then he was forced to open up and claimed he got it when he was living a reckless life as a sinner. Apologized to her. she was infuriated against the advice of the church and pastors she filed for divorce, sued the man to court and remarried an equally HIV person like her.
it was announced today that she had been disfellowship. and the pastor said she should have forgiven the man and remained in the marriage since the man asked for forgiveness. it caused an uproar in church.

what's your opinion on what happened?
First I am a Catholic not a redeem member so I perspective is from my background.

In my church a man who hid his HIV status and dubiously contracted marriage will be rightly divorced in a civil court and the church will follow it up immediately by granting an annulment, the marriage will be declared null and viod and of no effect from the beginning and the woman will be free to contract marriage with someone else with the blessing of the church.

If you have a deal breaker before marriage and you hid it from your spouse, deceiving her, and then dubiously going for wedding with her, according to Catholic theology that marriage is not valid, it is based on deception and lies. It is not recognized even before God talk less of before men.

A man/woman who has HIV, kids from a previous marriage, impotency in men, a woman who had her womb removed or other such deal breakers, anybody that has them should speak up before the wedding.

If your man is coming for you because he is under the false impression that you are a virgin or has conditioned your marriage on something you don't possess, kindly confess.
Christianity EtcRe: Celibacy And The Catholic Priest. by Ubenedictus(m): 9:47am On Sep 23, 2018
KOKSNATION:
There's an ongoing debate whether the celibacy requirement be removed or made optional for one to become a priest in the catholic church. Sometime last year, the Pope at the vatican raised the issue on contemplation to see if it will be made optional or totally scrapped from the catholic communion.

It boils down to the fact that most catholic priest fail to meet up to the standard of keeping themselves faithful and committed to their calling. Part of which is having secret families; it is rumoured that most priest get married secretly and have children outside of the knowledge of the church. An abominable act which is tantamount to the dismissal from priesthood.

'There is no smoke without fire' as many have also suggested that some of these priests engage in several immoral acts which includes: rape, secret love affairs and child molestation, generally known as pedophilia.

Part of the debate suggests that child rape is one major social vices and tops the list of crimes emanating from the territory of the Catholic church. Recently, a Pennsylvanian church recorded a case of child abuse by a catholic priest which is still under investigation. Not mentioning the others that has taken place in Michigan and Nigeria; the Makurdi

Here is an ongoing debate which suggests whether it stays or not. Will it workhuh Will it curb the rate of immoral actshuh

Civil laws are made to order society, that means they are concerned with those issues that affect others in society not just your private sins....

This is why I believe Nigerian homosexual laws are stupid, how can you legislate what consenting adults do in their bedroom, it is a law that is unenforceable.

No, common sense dictates Christians do a church wedding for the reasons I earlier gave, traditional wedding is a deficient contract and we are not traditionalists

Here

Ubenedictus:
please tell me any traditional wedding that implies a permanent, indissoluble Union like that between Jesus and his church... If you can show me any traditional marriage that implies the reality of what Jesus taught about marriage then I'll begin advising people to it.

Why will I make a contract that I know is inherently deficient? The moment I do a traditional wedding I know that it is not indissoluble because it is based upon my culture that gives me right to pursue my wife whenever I like... It is a deficient contract, the traditional wedding does not imply what I believe as a Christian, in fact it opposes it.
This is why right from the early church Christians rightly distanced themselves from the so-called traditional marriage, they do not reflect the reality of the Christian faith on marriage, they are based upon cultures antithetical to the Christian faith and only produce contracts that are at odds with what the marriage covenant is.

How come you don't know that the relationship between man and wife should mirror that between Jesus and the church,
Eph 5

22 Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. 24 Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.

25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her 26 to make her holy, cleansing[b] her by the washing with water through the word, 27 and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. 28 In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29 After all, no one ever hated their own body, but they feed and care for their body, just as Christ does the church— 30 for we are members of his body. 31 “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.”[c] 32 This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church

The wedding done in the Catholic Church is a sacrament in itself. And mandatory for all catholics. The good side is that a priest can Wed you or anybody without the flamboyance people display today. People have wedded during morning mass, or even during their TM and it is a valid sacrament in the Church. NO Catholic priest will insist on white wedding. You can put on anything for the ceremony, and it must not be followed by any form of entertainment.

It is we who like competing with ourselves on whose wedding is/was most expensive.

Weddings are usually a ceremony of great joy but today the sorrow that follows some wedding ceremonies raises questions in ones heart.

Who decreed that Christians must have white weddings which we have now christened church or Christian marriage.

How many marriages were conducted in the sanctuary or temple in Bible days? Should we really spend so much to get married?

We have heard stories of people arranging some part of their marriage ceremony on credit in the hope that they will make enough from the spraying of money during the bridal dance to offset their loans.

I remember attending a wedding where the DJ refused to turn on the microphone because he had not been fully paid for his service at the reception. We pleaded and pleaded but he would not budge. Someone had to go to an ATM to get the cash for him before the reception could begin.

What type of marriage ceremonies were carried out in Bible days? How were these ceremonies conducted? Does having your marriage ceremony in church add anything to your marriage?

Let's share notes and thoughts on this.
1. It is not white wedding! It is Christian wedding. Every culture has its own wedding style that is informed according to its religion and religious belief, for Jews, Judaism and Jewish culture is one and the same thing, so a wedding for them is simply a contract entered by two families and ratified by their consent, the parents pray for the couples and that is it! This marriage is recognized as valid by all Jews.

In other places these ceremony also involves sacrifice in accordance with the religion the culture is based upon, for this reason not every traditional marriage is OK for a Christian to perform.

Even so from the earliest time it was the Christian practice to seek approval for marriage from the church as represented by her leaders, we see this in the early church as far back as 110AD and by the 2nd century the Christian received their weddings from their priest since many times they would refuse anything related to pagan ceremonies.

A priest, the couple, members of the church as witness and exchange of consent became the way Christians did wedding.

Nobody says you should wear white or cook food or call DJ. In fact I was in my church some years back for morning mass and met a wedding with the couples in traditional attire, no pomp etc just the church, they exchanged vows and were married, they went home and entertained only family and close friends.

For Christians marriage means more than what is accepted by any tradition whether Jewish or African for this reason the ceremony that marks such union is not celebrated according to tradition but according to their Faith. I will not celebrate an indissoluble Convenant with a traditional ceremony that implies is is a contract to be broken anytime one decides.

Christianity EtcRe: Are Morality And Ethics Holding Back Science? by Ubenedictus(m): 2:53pm On Sep 20, 2018

Catholicism would have no choice but to be scientific, considering its history with science. It has blindly believed in the past and found egg on its face so it very rightly adopted what physical evidence showed. It is for this reason that Pentecostals would claim Catholics are heretics. They, the Pentys, haven't got the historical knowledge the Catholics have, yet.

However, in that Article, it clearly attempts to place faith above reason, though with the caveat that "there can never be any real discrepancy between faith and reason". And in reality, rather unfortunately, when there is discrepancy, the majority, being non-scientific, would go for faith above reason since they are less able to transcend. That Catholicism, amongst all Christian sects however, is the most intellectually advanced of all is incontestable. Though, amongst the laity, this might not be so obvious especially in a country like Nigeria where access to information is limited.
.
But its changing for the positive thanks to advances in science and technology and the human being's ability to reason. I got my Quran from the Metropolitan Cathedral of the Precious Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ, is a case in point. It takes great wisdom and huge advancement in intellect to get to the point whereby it is reasoned that ones neighbour is ones neighbour despite the neighbour's religion. Another is the predominantly Catholic Ireland's adoption of the right to abortions. These are indicative of humans gorging on the fruits of knowledge.

Soon even the cherubim and flaming sword flashing back and forth would take forced retirement. We humans would then reach up and pluck of the fruit of the Tree of Life itself and eat. Perhaps then our life expectancy would transcend to a more healthy 3 score and ten, instead of the pitiable lowly 53.05 years it currently languishes at. I live in hope supported by my faith in my fellow human beings that it won't be too long a wait.

Does the Catholic Church have a university in Nigeria yet?
actually the last time I checked the Catholic church had a pretty good record with science, we pretty much built the schools that taught science, and sponsored the scientists and their enquiry. Almost all the universities of Europe at the time was church built, church founded and maintained by the church.

And yes the Catholic church through her priests and dioceses do have universities in Nigeria.
