Definition of paramilitary
: of, relating to, being, or characteristic of a force formed on a military pattern especially as a potential auxiliary military force or an auxilary combative force...

Next person who calls the Federal Road Safety Corps in Nigeria a paramilitary force suppose chop heavy conk for dia head. We are not in Columbia re-enacting scenes from Narcos or like in medieval times like Game of Thrones when the queen had her shaved by the fanatics and forced to walk the town in "shame"

The commandant did not have any right in law to cut her hair and he is lucky because in some places he would be arrested by the police for inflicting ABH. There are disciplinary procedures and responsibilities which he abidicated in his arrogance and inhumane treatment. It was wrong and he deserves a reprimand.

Soldiers shave their head or are prohibited from growing long hair for combat purposes so if they were having a fight or tussle the enemy cannot grab them by the hair and for personal hygiene too. No be for cosmetic purpose. The lady should have been instructed to have her hair in a bun or packed or have her suspended or her pay docked. The guy had a proper hard on to cut female hair that day grin

Another armchair lawyer wannabe. Where were you when she was defaming people and abusing her own father? Why didn't you write this feeble legal opinion for her to warn her? Is people like you who encourage lawlessness and cyber bullies who spew rubbish. Nothing like spurious grounds here. Kemi Olunloyo deserves to be in prison. If you care that much, head to PH and open up a drycleaning shop there and then pay yo her bail.
And better take the sick fool back to your own house o. If you let her loose in Ibadan, Curses will be rained upon you, both native and otherwise!
Thanks for your kindargarten post. Next time I'd suggest you shut up and let adults do the talking. I've several years of law enforcement in saner climers and in Nigeria. It was an unlawful arrest and a flagrant abuse of powers. She can sue your pastor. Park well jor. I choose to ignore you. Cyber bullies? What are you? 10 years old and typing from your father's hut in the village? Maybe I should get you arrested for Defamation too for your comments. Halfwit!! I've said it and will say it again. As much as Kemi is a nuisance she is not a criminal and does not deserve to be in prison for slander or libel. It remains the remit of a civil court or magistrate and denying her bail is an abuse of due process. Speaking to lawyers they confirmed that there are so many parts of our constitution which need rewriting and are products of the military regime era, defamation being one of such. It is now being used by the rich and powerful to stifle freedom of expression or opinion. She has written far worse about other personalities and they chose to do the mature thing by ignoring her or challenging her word for word. Someone posts something about me, I'd laugh and make the person look like a dolt instead of running to the authorities like the crybaby pastor. If he is claiming damages please show the courts where Kemi hurt your feelings abeg? She was arrested on spurious grounds and the authorities remanded her without bail, then transfered her to prison for a simple matter on the say so of a pastor? It is a flagarant abuse of her constitutional right and if I were her, I will take the authorities and the pastor to the drycleaners. Disgraceful and anyone applauding this needs to check their conscience or for the sheeple their Bible.

No. Let the courts decide if she committed an actual offence and not the court of social media or public opinion. I don't frankly care whose ox is gored.

So because criminals are walking free, the police should not arrest anyone until they have caught all the criminals all at once?
Did she go against the law? Yes. I dont think any injustice has been done. If you go around calling everyone out and saying things that destroys people's character, you should be ready for what comes. And this particular woman has been talking without any form of caution. It's just time to face it.
That's the problem. It is very worrying no one sees how far reaching this issue is. I find it disturbing that anyone including this third rate "journalist" can be arrested on trumped up charges or hearsay evidence and then remanded for an undisclosed term. It can happen to anyone. The allegations are spurious and her arrest serves no purpose. As much as I don't pay her any attention, we have much more pressing matters as a nation than a pastor whose "feelings" have been hurt by some crackpot bloggist. Our senators and politicians are robbing us blind and they are walking free as a bird. Criticize them and see yourself being arrested too for 'cybercrime' too.

The topic said they're taking her case to court on the 23rd. As for her arrest, the pastor can't be charged with anything. That's she's still in cell is her wahala, she should get a good lawyer to bail her. The bail stuff is the problem of the police not the pastor.
So she has been remanded until her appearance at court? Does it appear to you that due process was followed or adhered to? She was arrested for "cybercrime" Please check out the offences against the administration of justice, pastor could find himself subject to proceedings as well. It is a slippery slope when the police are allowed to interprete the laws and instead of building a solid case or evidence. This matter will never go to trial. Let's wait & see.

What is defamation?
According to the Criminal Code in section 373, a defamatory matter is a matter likely to injure the reputation of any person by exposing him to hatred, contempt, or ridicule, or likely to damage any person in his profession or trade by any injury to his reputation. Such matter may be expressed in spoken words or in any audible sounds, or in words legibly marked on any substance whatever, or by any sign or object signifying such matter otherwise than by words, and may be expressed either directly or by insinuation or irony. It is immaterial whether at the time of the publication of the defamatory matter; the person concerning whom such matter is published is living or dead. In essence, saying anything likely to damage the reputation of a person may be considered defamatory.
Defamation could either be a libel or slander, it is considered libel when the false statement is published in written form for instance in newspapers, magazines and the web but considered slander when it is spoken.

What are the legal consequences of defamation?
Any person, who publishes any defamatory matter, is guilty of a misdemeanour and is liable to imprisonment for one year; and any person who publishes any defamatory matter knowing it to be false, is liable to imprisonment for two years. Also, any person who publishes, or threatens to publish, or offers to abstain from publishing, or offers to prevent the publication of defamatory matter, with intent to extort money or other property, or with intent to induce any person to give, confer, procure, or attempt to procure, to, upon, or for, any person, any property or benefit of any kind, is guilty of a felony and is liable to imprisonment for seven years (Section 375 – 376, Criminal code).
And a court decided that she is guilty? have the police produced a prima facie case to a competent judge for the accused to stand trial? Or has she been charged? Remember she is presumed innocent until a court decides. Her arrest was completely unnecessary and pastor could be charged with pervitting the course of justice? What a tangled web we weave.

Libel is not a crime. It is not an offence. I am yet to see an arrest in saner climes for a very "tenous" term such as that. You sue the person to court and not waste police or authorities time which should used for more urgent and pressing matters. Emotional damages? Are you serious? Media is raising? Was he assaulted? I will speak for those who cannot speak because I am my brother's keeper. Do you know what is evil? It is also seeing an injustice and standing idly and not speaking up against it or not helping the poor and defenceless. That is what Jesus will want.

This is not good news at all. why are Nigerians very heartless? they think they are better than others. This woman did not hurt anyone but speak her mind. We are in a democratic government and our constitution protects our freedom of speech. There are millions of thieves, killers and looters out there being celebrated by Nigerians. This woman never stole our money, she did not rape our kids, she did not kill anyone, she did not break the law, she did not steal anyone's husband, she only spoke her opinions. Are we not supposed to speak our minds? Must we all have the same viewpoints? We have all either insulted our presidents and governors or wished them dead. Patience jonathan was called all sort of names and everyone found pleasure and fun in it. GEJ was ridiculed like an item and no one found it insulting that our president was the object of mockery. Obasanjo was called a monkey and no one was arrested. Some people wished death for Buhari and no one was arrested even as they are surprised that he returned from the UK. How would you all feel if you get locked up for your thoughts? Are they not equally evil? TB Joshua has not responded for failing to appear in court 2 times. Isn't that an arrestable offense by our constitution? Yet many people are solidly supporting him when the families of the people who died on his property still cry over the loss.
How could you arrest someone and lock her up till the 23rd as if she is not protected by the law? Biafrans hate Buhari for locking Nnamdi Kanu up against his constitutional right and i am surprised some of them rejoice over same treatment meted out on kemi. Is kemi now worse than the Fulani herdsmen killing people everywhere? Is she worse than the Boko haram committing carnage for half a decade now? Mr DPO are you not aware that the nation needs your services in Sambisa forest? The pastor that arrested her, is he representing Jesus or Juju? How could a pastor arrest someone for defaming him? Matthew 10:22; Matthew 24:9; Luke 21:12 judging by these scriptures, that pastor is not a Christian. What name can one have when Jesus himself was blasphemed and killed? Now. the pastor is the one killing someone. What does he preach on a Sunday? Does he pray to God or to DPO?
Kemi did not devalue our naira, she did not put us in this recession, she did not contest for any political post. Even if you kill her, your condition remains stable.
Let Nigerians have their freedom to speak their minds even if it opposes your beliefs. Rejoicing over this unfair treatment against her means denying yourself and your children the right to speech. Person way talk must die? See Nigerians are butchered every day in south Africa and languishing in the prisons over there. MTN and DSTV bosses have not been arrested. When e reach for where dem go show muscles dem go day act like baby. Na poor man body dem day get power.

I applaud you for seeing the incarceration of this lady for what it really is. As much I don't like the woman or how she makes me cringe each time she writes or calls herself an "investigative journalist"which is a smack in the face of journalism or how much her pieces are riddled with factual inaccuracies, the authorities have arrested her on quite spurious and shaky grounds. Cybercrime should involve offences such as phishing or fraud or sexual offences. What she is alleged to have said about the pastor is libellous - nothing more. People are languishing in Nigerian jails without bail or charged and this exemplifies what is wrong with our judicial and policing authorities, it is a miscarriage of justice and abuse of due process. Other hand there are people walking around doing alot worse including our senators and politicians? We should arrest everyone for everything and see who is left. The pastor should have taken her to court and sued for damages. It is a civil matter and not a criminal offence. Everyone jubilating about her predicament, show me where in our constitution or law it mentions "cybercrime" the police have used this term to conduct unlawful arrests. They search your phone illegally, they see something they do not like which is actually innocous and they arrest you for cybercrime?! Having her arrested is abusing anyone's constitutional rights and for a pastor to do this shows how easily the scales of justice can be swayed for the rich and mighty. Only in Nigeria will every Tom, Dick and Harry can demand the arrest of another person without grounds or clear evidence and most times for offences that do not even exist. It should not be happening in a civil society. If someone says or writes something you don't like or approve, challenge them with facts or ignore them or take legal recourse. Stop being a cry baby about it. Cyberbullying? GTFOH grin if you are above 18 years old , you deserve koboko.

Arresting people for excercising their constitutional rights? Has he committed a crime? Nigerian Police have a lot to learn. Hope he is freed soon.
