PapaBrowne: Lets support our troops. Boko Haram has been a menace and has killed upwards of 4000 people and are willing to kill more. But some men just like us with 2 hands, 2 legs, one head, two eyes, two ears(Our gallant troops) have taken the challenge to protect us from these hell-bound scoundrels called Boko Haram Islamists.
Our Troops(don't know if there are women too) are Fathers, Brothers, Boyfriends, Uncles, Best Friends, Cousins and a whole lot more. They have people who love them. They have ambitions and all want to grow old peacefully. But they have opted to sacrifice themselves that we may have peace. Some will die in the process, others would return home without a scratch, but one thing is sure, they will win the war and we will know peace because they made a sacrifice.
This thread is dedicated to supporting our troops with nice words, poems, stories of gallantry, pictures and lots more.
Maybe, just maybe, one of the troops somewhere in any of those three states would use his mobile phone to see this thread and know that he has the backing and support of majority of Nigerians.
Let it roll!!

KnowAll: One of the ways American Presidents get the sympathies of their country's men and women is by going to wars, or better still invading lesser nations. The invasion of Granada, a small island in the Atlantic Ocean boosted Ronald Regan's Approval ratings into the stratosphere making him secure a second term with such an ease. so was George Bush senior's invasion of and eventual apprehension of the Panama strong man(Noriega), if the elections were held within the year of the invasion he would have secured re-election easily.
His approval ratings also hit the stratosphere just after the apprehension and eventual jailing of General Noriga. George Bush Snr could easily have secured a second term if not for Ross Perot who ran as an independent splitting and decimating the Republican votes hence his eventual loss of the election.
Noriega was Apprehended in Dec 1989, but the elections was not held for another 3.5 years in 1993. So from this little lesson of history, all Jonathan have to do going forward is to pursue a populist program before 2015.
The President has the momentum at the moment, and many ACN voters were not only embarrass by Mr Lai Mohammed's thoughtless criticism of the declaration of the State of Emergency, but are readily happy to dissociate themselves from such childish, amateurish and ill-time criticism and to make matters worse, one of the associating parties planning to form the APC mega party, and I am talking of ANPP here, has come out openly to support Mr President's stance, obviously the Governor's of those states feels the pain of the pinch, unlike the ACN Governors who are more or less at the moment immune from the travails of what the citizenry of those states in the NE are going through.
So Mr President more grease to your elbow. We all know that ANPP is only supporting the SoE because their Gov'nors were not removed, and replaced with military administrators. |

1. Drinking Too Much Alcohol “Beer belly” is the common term for excess fat that has accumulated due to drinking a lot of alcohol on a regular basis. Beer isn’t the only culprit, though. Contrary to the specific term, drinking an excessive amount of any alcoholic beverage can cause beer belly. (Except wine, according to research.) Alcohol contains nothingbut empty calories that are stored in the stomach area. O mehn, does that mean no more ALCOHOL. Kai! |

2. Eating Too Many Bad Carbohydrates There are good carbs and there are bad carbs. Eating unrefined carbs like fruit, legumes, vegetables and whole grains is good for you, and helps in weight control. Eating biscuits, cakes, donuts, white bread and other refined carbs does the opposite. Eat too many of these carbs and a person’s insulin level will rise. Their metabolism will slow down, and the excess sugar the body can’t use will be stored as belly fat. Babes una dey hear. SUYA and ICE CREAM everytime! |

apala911: ANPP Opposes ACN, CPC; Declares Support For State Of Emergency
The opposition party said the president acted rightly. Two days after President Goodluck Jonathan declared a State of Emergency in two of its three states, the All Nigeria Peoples Party has declared support for the declaration. The party’s position was made known by its National Chairman, Ogbonnaya Onu, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday. Mr. Onu said his party and its governors will support the Federal Government to bring peace to Borno and Yobe, currently under emergency rule. President Goodluck Jonathan declared a State of Emergency in Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa on Tuesday evening to curb the violence and insurgency in the area. Of the three states, only Adamawa is controlled by the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, with the other two controlled by the ANPP. The ANPP’s reactions contrasts sharply with that of its other two allies, the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, and the Congress for Progressive Change, CPC; with the other two outrightly condemning the declaration. The three parties, alongside a faction of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, are currently concluding their merger to form the All Progressives Congress. “We have been working very hard as a party and our governors are mature. They will continue to work hard for peace. That has been the position of our party,” Mr. Onu said. “But we believe that with the declaration of the state of emergency, the rights of the citizens must be respected because we are in democracy,’’ M. Onu said. He lauded President Goodluck Jonathan for ensuring that the political leadership of the affected states was not taken away from the governors. “The insecurity was not caused by the governors and they were elected by the people; so the emergency should not and I am happy it has not affected them,” he said. “They have been putting in their best and we know that they will continue to do so until we have peace.” The ACN, probably sensing the view of one of its allies warned on Thursday that retaining the political leadership during such emergency declaration was inconsequential. “Truly, leaving the Governors and the state legislatures in place has made it easier for Nigerians to accept the imposition. But the truth is that the state chief executives and the legislatures have no role to play under the new system in place in the states,” the party added,” the ACN spokesman, Lai Mohammed, said. Premium Times had made repeated efforts to reach the spokesperson of the ANPP on Wednesday and Thursday on the party’s reaction. “We’re not speaking now,” Emma Eneukwu, the party spokesperson had said. With the statement of the party’s chairman, it appears the ANPP’s initial silence was not want to antagonize its allies, the ACN and CPC, who would then appear to be crying more than the bereaved. Mr. Onu expressed optimism that the issue of insecurity in the country would soon be resolved, saying, “Whatever has a beginning must have an end.’’ Climate change Earlier at a public lecture, organised by the Nigerian Academy of Sciences, Mr. Onu urged government at all levels to embrace research to address the challenges posed by climate change. Mr. Onu, who chaired the lecture, warned that climate change would have adverse effects on food security. “Before now Nigeria was self-sufficient in food production but now the country is the largest importer of rice and other commodities, this is not acceptable,’’ he said. The ANPP Chairman said that “government must continue to carry out research to see how climate change has impacted on us as well as the necessary measures needed to ameliorate its effects on our economy. “Everybody, not just the government, even the private sector must emphasis research. “Research is very important because without it, we would not know what will happen,’’ he said.

Politics › Re: Northern Elders To Jonathan - You Have Declared War On Northern Nigeria by vanstanzy(m): 10:55am On May 17, 2013 |
igbsam: Northern elders on Thursday broke their silence on the slamming of state of emergency in three of their states, describing the action of President Goodluck Jonathan as an indirect declaration of war on the Northern part of Nigeria.
The President’s action, which took the northern elders by surprise, is coming barely three weeks after Jonathan accepted a roadmap from the NEF on how to end the Boko Haram insurgency in parts of the north.
The elders had successfully impressed upon the Presidency to raise the Boko Haram committee to dialogue with the sect with a view to restoring elusive peace to the region. Jonathan, who met with the NEF leadership in Abuja in April, subsequently inaugurated the Turaki-led BH committee with a mandate to broker peace with the sect and compensate their victims within a two-month timeframe.
However, shortly after inaugurating the panel, the sect leadership rejected the amnesty offer, saying that it is the government that should seek amnesty for having killed its Muslim brothers across the country.
But a spokesman for the NEF, Prof Ango Abdullahi, who relayed the position of the group on Thursday, told Vanguard that they were disappointed by the sudden change of tactic by Jonathan on how to resolve the crisis in the north.
“It is very sad for us to see that the President has easily changed direction from dialogue and reconciliation to war in his bid to end the cycle of violence in the north,” Abdullahi said.
