amnesty for people that have murdered thousands |
BananaPeel:No! Nigerians prefer drug lords and fetish corrupt leaders that hide the money for road repair for a whole state in their mattress Can't you already hear them shouting TInubu 2023 and Atiku 2023? |
Imagine these guys had been asking for amnesty for killers since back then |
tutudesz:Where do we draw the line though on appropriate punishment? Let's take an extreme example, would death be a befitting punishment for traffic offenses? Seems too severe right? Obviously! What I'm trying to say is that auctioning peoples vehicles is also severe... and we do not need to be that severe if we had consistent law enforcement. It's that simple! People tend to beg more in Nigeria even for minor traffic offenses, as opposed to the U.S like you stated (people still beg in the U.S but definitely not like Nigeria that they will lay down and take off their clothes, lol), because in the U.S, the penalties are appropriate for the offenses, for the most part. Additionally, you are simply issued a ticket for minor traffic offenses and allowed to go about your day, as opposed to here in Nigeria, where the police can waste your whole day for a simple offense. Back in the day, you even had to follow them to their station and abandon all your days activities, no matter how important they were, for the simplest of traffic offenses. Do you remember when you had to pay upwards of N50,000 fine for using your phone as you drive? Of course people in a poor nation would beg when issued such a huge fine for texting; A fine higher that was more than 150% of the country's minimum wage. |
helinues:No room for intellectual discourse? |
In all honesty, Nigeria has never really had good adminstration. I opened a thread asking people if they know what it means to get "Pulled Over" by police, and I'm not talking about check points or "STOP STOP STOP!!", or hitting your car with a stick... If not for Hollywood movies, how many Nigerians would know that when police sirens are behind you, it means to pull over? In fact, how many police squad cars put on sirens for the purpose of pulling people over and not to drive aggressively through traffic jams? To go from a society that doesn't even have police squad cars that pull people over, to, auctioning peoples cars, just reeks of disorganization and of course we all know that Nigeria is a disorganized society. Imagine a 21st century leader, that spends part of his/her first year in office, sensitizing drivers and police officers on what it means to get PULLED OVER |
tutudesz:You said the average Nigerian feels like they can get away with anything... Have you asked yourself why that is? Seriously, think deep... Don't you think it's because laws are HARDLY EVER ENFORCED in Nigeria? Or is it because peoples cars were not being auctioned? Be honest with your soul. When I drive in Dallas, I am always on the look out for police, cause I can get stopped for something as "SIMPLE" as driving on the lane marking, which NO NIGERIAN IN HISTORY HAS EVER BEEN STOPPED FOR IN NIGERIA. Please think, open your mind, I will strive as well to always keep an open mind. Thank you! |
madridguy:I am not advocating for them to break the law, I am advocating for consistent enforcement of driving rules, which if done, would not require draconian penalties and would promote LAW and Order in society, preventing things like what happened to your good friend from happening in the first place. Anybody, any driver, that knocks down a pedestrian on a sidewalk whether one way or not, should face criminal charges. May his soul rest in peace, amen. |
I was going through the DJ switch thread in which she condemned the Lagos State Government for auctioning cars of those that drive one way:- https://www.nairaland.com/6372248/thief-dj-switch-slams-lagosOn that thread, a lot of people are abusing her, and it just shows why Nigeria is mostly the way it is, that even now, we continue to support things that don't make sense. I am a serious advocate of LAW and ORDER, check my topics on nairaland, but even I would not support the IMMEDIATE auctioning of peoples vehicles for traffic offenses. ................... See, here's the thing about Nigeria. We are NEVER consistent in anything, most especially in maintaining LAW and ORDER! For example, instead of enforcing driving laws 24/7/265, we don't enforce anything and let chaos reign for 99% of the time. Then that 1% of the time that we want to enforce the law, we enact penalties sooooo HARSH, because we want to make up for that 99% time that we were not doing anything. It's like a student in school that knows he/she has an exam in 2 weeks. They have the choice of preparing a LITTLE per day, or waiting till the day before and cramming in MASSIVE amounts of information in one night. Let me tell you the truth, if we had police officers that PATROLED (very important here, you can't have officers at only checkpoints or standing, or sleeping in their car), and enforced driving laws every minute, you would not even see that many drivers doing extreme and obviously wrong things like driving ONE-WAY. Doing this, you get to keep the fines reasonable, since you are ALWAYS ENFORCING THE LAW. ................ Now lets talk about ERRORS, yes ERRORS... No system or individual is devoid of errors, so you are guaranteed to make some driving errors in you driving lifetime. What happens when you make an error of driving one way, because you didn't know the street you are on doesn't permit that. Should the outcome of your single error on that day result in the loss of your vehicle? Fines should be reasonable, and ONE-WAY drivers should definitely get larger and harsher fines, but auctioning a car immediately is just INHUMANE! |
Why you had to state your tribe? I don't know! I guess it just boils down to how you subconsciously realize that decisions Nigerians make when choosing a leader revolve NOT around the leaders love for the Nation and it's citizens, OR, their ability to inspire innovation and problem solving, NO NO NO NO NO... ...What you realize, I guess, is that most Nigerians make voting decisions based on tribe and maybe some garri and palm oil; talk about a 21st century electorate, BRILLIANT!!! So tell us why again, you are choosing another usual crook to further balkanize our land, destroying lives of our brothers and sisters? Tell us, we are all ears, and can't wait for a further collapse of Nigeria TODAY, Dollar is almost N500, that news is on front page... How much is rice again? Okay! Continue May God forgive all of you... Sometimes, I do wonder if all of you are demons that enjoy the tears and suffering of people. |
Then they will tell you the likes of Sowore, Moghalu will make bad leaders, cause they are brilliant, but not ready. I mean, you elected a coup plotter? You campaigned for a coup plotter? If Hitler was alive today and a Nigerian, I'm sure most of you will vote for him over a Sowore or another intellectual |
7lives:lol, you are so funny, ignorant, but funny... So lemme get this straight, you'd rather give an ex dictator/coup plotter in Buhari a chance, than give A SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS MAN a chance? I'm telling you, most Nigerians would have been among the crowd shouting "FREE BARABAS", instead of urging to free Jesus Christ. You Nigerians, will dive deep into the depths of HELL to find a leader, but will give all manner of excuses why a relatively GOOD MAN, will make a bad leader. I mean just let this sink in. A man plotted a coup and then you elected him ![]() That's like electing Hitler if he were still alive, and I wouldn't put it above Nigerians to elect a Hitler, if he was among an influential tribe, cause they will say "he is our brother" May God helps us ALL! |
olatuns2017:but won't it pain you too? dollar is almost N500, everything in the market is expensive I just want to know if you guys will be exempt from the stupid decisions you make? Or are you living in a different Nigeria? I guess this is the dream country you have for your children, and you will tell them you did this just to spite IGBO; a very proud dad you will be. One that destroyed his country for tribal bragging rights, not even real rights... That's why when hollywood depicted Wakanda, I just laughed... Like Nigerians with their tribal mentality can ever build a WAKANDA |
Nukilia:I won't say EVERY, but definitely a large portion When they were collecting the toll, they didn't even try to organize the queues, all they cared bout was collecting that money Sometimes, even when they had only like two stalls open and 200 cars waiting, they would still make sure that ALL OF THOSE CARS CRAWL THROUGH AND PAY! Nothing like, letting everyone pass, since traffic was building, lie lie. Even if the traffic built from TOLL GATE to 1004, and there was just ONE STALL OPEN, THEY MUST ALL PAY! That toll on lekki-epe, was really heartless, especially since it wasn't a NEW ROAD, like lekki-Ikoyi link bridge. |
iwaeda:Bravo Dude! Bravo! Tell dem about Houston abeg |
Remember the MOMUMENTAL traffic that typically flowed from the toll gate, all around Victoria island? Well since the scrapping of the illegal toll gate on Lekki Epe, that traffic has DISAPPEARED So they were collecting money from an illegal toll gate, and still inflicting hardships in the form of traffic on Lagosians |
Neddstark:It is you that needs to travel out, to realize that there exists alternatives to those tolled highways in those countries and those alternatives are also HIGHWAYS, not one-lane market roads |
Minjim:As in.. Even when they were collecting that toll, they couldn't even use 1% of it, to light up the roads and put lane markings. Drive on Lekki EPE TODAY and you will see that 90% of the road has no lanes ( they have all faded away) Yet they were making millions and billions, and doing what with it exactly? |
They won't talk about policies, projects, or ways to reverse the collapse in Nigeria In any thread you open, they will never talk about such It's always just, OUR DADDY, JAGAGBAN, IPOB... Gosh Nigeria, Nigerians, na wa for you guys |
AND THROUGH ALL THIS, ALL SOME PEOPLE KNOW ON ANOTHER THREAD IS TINUBU 2023, BY FIRE BY FORCE, IGBOS NTORR, IS YORUBAS TURN.... NOT ONE MENTION OF POLICY OR HOW WE CAN TURN NIGERIA AROUND, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO IT'S JUST, TINUBU 2023, OUR FATHER, JAGAGBAN, WE DIE HERE STUPID, STUPID, STUPID |
codemaniacs:Okay, so can an American Nigerian win election here in Nigeria as opposed to the native white Nigerians we keep shutting out from government halls? |
Real censorship, na wa... Trump is till the man sha! Greatest economy for Black Americans before Covid Strong American Economy before Covid Peace deals; North Korea, Isreal and middle east Building the Wall Releasing African Americans with minor offenses from Prison Nipping Terrorists in the bud .... Its funny how the likes of CNN made the world hate this man. I confirmed CNN was shady when they edited out the mans speech. In his speech he said something like "I strongly condemn white supremacist and bla bla bla" When I watched it on CNN, they removed the first part and only played "and bla bla bla", and they maintained that he didn't condemn white supremacy, but I was like, I just watched this man live, and he did condemn it. So the question became, why did CNN cut out that part? Anyways, the man has already called for peace even though there may have been election malpractice. I would love to see how the press talks about Biden. I'm sure even if he calls all blacks "Monkeys", adding to his collection of abuses towards blacks, the media will just sweep over it, like they swept over the Hunter Biden Laptop fiasco. |
codemaniacs:All this hardly matters, because most people view race though black and white lenses, and do not delve deeper into the roots of an individual... So a black American of a Nigerian, would still just be "Black" to your average white guy and vice versa.... |
codemaniacs: |
I pray today for God's judgement to come upon all those on this forum who keep pushing corrupt politicians God of Justice, God of Love, God of Mercy! If not for your mercy God, which of us can stand? but for how long God, will you allow Nigeria to be ruled by the worst of us? For how long will Nigeria remain an underdeveloped land? For how long will you allow these evil voters and politicians have their way? As much as I pray for your Judgement on these souls God, I pray you temper your Justice with mercy, for which of us can stand your full wrath? ONE THING IS CERTAIN, THAT WE ALL MUST FACE YOUR JUDGEMENT, CAUSE NO MAN CAN ESCAPE DEATH. |
gaskiyamagana:You are just a complete dunce You are in a country that is the Poverty Capital of the World and you are here dancing NAKED for another corrupt politician and you have the NERVE to talk. The judgement for all of you that vote for the worst politicians to spite IGBO or any other tribe awaits you. You will tell God how you knowingly were part of those that inflicted pain to a whole country. |
codemaniacs:lol, U.S can't remove race? Abeg don't be a hypocrite Is it not here on Nairaland that we will be reading that one Yoruba or Igbo man or woman became Major, Governor or whatever in White man Land? Tell me the last White man to hold any government position in Nigeria? If you ask me, TODAY, blacks are the real racists, especially Nigerians. |
junketer:Dude, you win Nairaland for today "If Lagos is soo developed, then why is Tinubu in Fance" Yet Nigerians will beat their chest, shouting "Most Developed", while they take a huge poo in the middle of the street and piss in open gutters |
tegrianonigltd:If only all Nigerians can travel to UK, USA or Dubai for 2 weeks Their brains would reset, and they will stop seeing election as Owambe, but as a means to build their society First Nigerians brought back a dictator, now some want to bring back a crook Sigh Nigeria |
budaatum:We are definitely our own worst enemies. Just look at election cycles... every time, we blacks here in Nigeria have an opportunity to elect a leader, instead of searching for the best, we always pick from amongst the worst and then the tribalism that is worse than any form of racism I've seen we hate ourselves soo much, we can't even undo what the British did by separating, because, everyone wants to pull the other person/tribe down |
Nigeria has really been bastardized by both the British and our very own thieving politicians... What irks me the most though, is how this young generation still cheers on their oppressors, even till today!! You hear them shout, Tinubu 2023!!!! Atiku 2023!!!... and you just wonder... You wonder deep... We had not even finished the first year of the second term of an absentee president, and they are already clamoring for more corrupt politicians far far into the future... It tells you that the generation don't care about value of life, standard of living and so on... All they care about is their clannish tribal mentality, of "my tribe this and that, igbo can never be president, yorubas turn, no hausa..." When I drive about everyday, I'm almost in tears at what Nigeria is today... You drive in Lagos, even on the Island, the supposed pinnacle of Nigerian civilization and what do you see: -markets on every street, EVERY SINGLE street littered with people selling one thing or the other -open gutters EVERYWHERE, even next to expensive buildings -people going to the toilet on the streets in broad day light -reckless, heartless and chaotic drivers, driving one way, tailgating, with MOST drivers not even knowing the meaning of "LANES", or "TURN SIGNALS" -people loitering, from morning to night on the road -corrupt police men and road officials who do NOTHING but ask for money -.... How did we become a disgrace to the black race? So we can't come together to organize ourselves and separate? I guess that is beyond the ability of the black mind, is it? and why does our society have to be so chaotic? no order... If you live in white man land for a decade and come back to Nigeria, it will be a hard adjustment to make, cause you would really believe that everyone around you was an animal. |
banmee:I don't even know why you're going back and forth with that dude with baseless facts... Is it not in Nigeria that police had killed more people than covid when the lockdown first started? Then, covid had killed 19, but Nigerian police had killed 21, just to force people to stay at home... Did any of those 21 murders by the Nigeria Police make media waves non-stop like George Floyd did? Abeg, leave that guy jor, all these suffering and smiling Nigerians are just becoming too many day by day |
