It seems the only people in support of the toll gate re-opening are the government and their social media agents
|
If only we had the power to put these corrupt governors in jail As most Lagosians have testified, there has been no traffic at the toll plaza on lekki epe since it went out of operation. So you pay toll to endure hours of traffic, while your car is getting bashed left and right due to the chaos at the toll gate. Then you make your way through the gate and you are greeted by a 10km stretch of road with NO LANE MARKINGS (except for a few meters), few functioning street lights, potholes and crazy drivers with zero law enforcement... They claim they lost billions in these few months that it has been shutdown, so think about it, how much money have they made since it has been in operation all these years? How many billions? For those that keep shouting PPP up and down, how much has been paid back and how much is left? They probably don't know, but will be the first to shout PPP, to further their corrupt masters continued graft. |
seunmsg:Don’t put words in my mouth. I am in support of the toll at lekki-ikoyi bridge for instance, cause it was BUILT FROM SCRATCH and solves a problem. Lekki Epe is meant to be the free alternative to ikoyi, while lekki-ikoyi bridge should be the tolled and FASTER alternative to ikoyi. Imagine if the federal government decided to place a toll on the third mainland bridge after the current repair work ends. How well would that sit with majority of Lagosians who would now have to pay N200 to use the third mainland bridge? Not too well I presume, because that is a free road they’ve become accustomed to. Now imagine tolling a 4th mainland bridge, do you think there would be as much, if any, outcry over the tolling of such a bridge? Probably not, since commuters know they would still have the option of a free 3rd mainland bridge, should they elect not to pay the toll to use the 4th. If the government wants to build new audacious projects and toll them, then that debate can be had, but we cannot have a debate for tolling roads already in existence simply because they repaired such roads or upgraded them. |
seunmsg:Seunmsg, one of the chief advocates for mass suffering, I wonder, do you run on tears or something? Always on the negative side of history. Here you are again, defending an illegal toll gate, despite the respite commuters have gotten these past few months the toll has been inoperable. |
Mynd44:This excuse is not tenable Have you ever been to Houston? You have the Sam Houston toll way for instance which has alternative highways if you want to avoid the toll. Note I said “Alternative HIGHWAYS”, not alternative one lane, pothole ridden, market roads. That lekki epe toll gate is the very definition of illegality and the cause of mass suffering. Why would you ever advocate for your people to suffer, I just don’t get it. |
ba7man:Wow! So you put gate in front of a road that was already leading to people’s house, then you now say if they can’t pay they should turn around Naija sha and it’s people Collectively, the majority push for bad policies, then turn around to wonder why Nigeria is dead last in almost everything. |
buckeyemedia:I don’t give a flying pig about your demigod I’m asking why you are so vehemently in support of an evil toll gate, making for one of the most expensive roads on the world. What is your benefit in seeing something that causes chaos, mass suffering and extortion continue? If you want, you can put toll gate in front of your house. In fact, turn your house gate to toll gate, so that anytime you pass, you will remit that money to the government. Are you not happy that traffic has reduced by several orders of magnitude? If we were to quantify the reduction in traffic as a percentage, we would be taking of close to a 100 percent reduction of traffic. From chaos, to breezy... But this upsets you, doesn’t it? You can’t have us having anything good can you? People now get to work on time and refreshed... Emergency vehicles now have a better chance or quelling emergencies... Shuttle times have greatly reduced... .... But all this upsets you doesn’t it? You fight so hard to keep your brothers and sisters in bondage. |
If you ever wonder how Nigeria got so bad, just read comments here People stripping naked in the market square to defend their oppressors who pilfer and pillage. Just look at the typical example of ease of traffic. Despite the fact that people testify to no more traffic on lekki epe due to removal of the toll gate, these evil people on this thread wanting the gates re-instated, don’t mind that chaos and traffic will return. They are always on the side of chaos, always. They support it when military kills civilians, when politicians steal, police brutalizes... See dem shouting for the toll gate to return as they are eager, very eager to return to mass suffering. The fact that commuters on that route presently have ease of traffic and peace of mind irks them, it upsets the evil ones badly, like, “how dare they enjoy anything good in this land called Nigeria, we must return them to hardship and chaos” |
buckeyemedia:What are you saying? and why are you defending robbery of your fellow citizens so vehemently? Do you receive a percentage of the toll fee? If you don’t, then I mean, sigh, sigh sigh |
hush15:Forget about state, even on the road you pay for, you won’t see see lanes. Compare that to third mainland bridge, a FREE road with lane markings and street lights. The corruption on lekki epe is through the roof... I’m talking MEGA corruption... MOST EXPENSIVE ROAD IN THE WORLD, with no lanes, no street lights, and no law and order. |
infogeneral:What area do you live? Do you pay the toll everyday? |
I read today how HISBAH destroyed drinks at a Hotel establishment and this is not the first time they've done this. How come though, the military isn't sent after them? I have never heard of HISBAH being described as an illegal police force by ANYBODY IN GOVERNMENT! The IGP, COAS, Presidency, SENATE, HOUSE.... All silent regarding the LEGALITY of HISBAH. What makes HISBAH legal and Amotekun and ESN "illegal"? Personally, I'd rather have state police instead of all these shadow forces? |
badaru911:The lights I am referring to were not malfunctioning though. It was clear for all road users to see that the lights were cycling normally. |
YoonSung81:Oh my gosh, EXACTLY! So you know! We can try to overlook it, but how many things will we overlook in this country? |
triple996:The don't have to shot them though. Why go from zero enforcement all the way to draconian punishment? What I'm saying is just be like a half decent country, just a half decent country, chai. A half decent country with a police force that GIVES CHASE, PULLS PEOPLE OVER, WRITES TICKETS, IMPOUNDS VEHICLES, VERIFIES LICENSES ON THE SPOT... Not a police force that either does nothing, or goes right to the extreme to shot people due to their laziness... and they can shoot stubborn drivers that don't want to take a ticket with a STUN GUN, which every police officer in Nigeria should have at this point if we were a half decent country. |
YoonSung81:bro, I was born and bred in Lagos, but also lived outside Nigeria for a while It's just frustrating seeing laws broken and broken and broken and the enforcers just sitting down, literally. I have no where else to voice out my complaints, it's just sad bro. Do you know how many times someone has almost crushed me because they ran their red light as mine was green and they will just be laughing, I guess they know that there is no punishment whatsoever for their crimes, so they might as well laugh as they put everyone else in danger. Some will even run through the RED light with GREAT speeds that you'd think their lights were green. Accidents that could be easily avoided. |
Yesterday in Lekki, I saw upwards of 10 cars running a certain RED light at around Jakande area while I was waiting my light to turn GREEN. What made this especially painful is that there was a squad of police right besides the traffic light. What were they doing? They were just sitting down and gisting on their pickup. Can you imagine? In what other country will people run red lights right in front of police and the police will just be laughing with Ak47s in their hands? and it wasn't just one car, but multiple cars totally disregarding their RED lights. Are we so primitive that we are now totally averse to Law and Order in this land? That the police won't even make an attempt to maintain traffic rules unless at their own convenience? Unless traffic is at a standstill via checkpoints? is that they only time police would do traffic work? Imagine how dangerous it is to be driving with confidence because the light in front of you has turned GREEN, not knowing that a MANIAC is about to smash into you because he ran his RED light and worse still police doesn't give a flying fvk I would have taken a picture and posted here, it was such a disgusting sight as some of the cars that ran red lights drove right past the police squad. How can we have such a useless police squad that can't even GIVE CHASE? What good is a police squad if all they do is park their car at a junction and gist inside? What good is that? Oh my Nigeria... God helps us! |
closing time and still no traffic at the toll gate. Funny is how some Nigerians themselves, were supporting the continuation of the toll gate. These are quotes from a thread were Bode George advices the cancellation of the toll: tamdun: 9jatriot:

I concur |
dorothy111:No leader anywhere. When im driving in Lagos, sometimes I feel like crying to God, like why is there so much chaos in Nigeria. Ordinary driving, we can’t even get right... No leadership to promote driving rules, law and order. This country can be like a jungle sometimes. See cars flying past red traffic light in broad daylight with ZERO PUNISHMENT, sigh God help us! |
GroundnutSoup9:See how media has gotten to you. Tell me just one attack by so called white supremacist that you know of Sigh Media will just be saying white supremacy, meanwhile America burnt last summer and there was not one white supremacist to be found, instead, there were many Black Lives Matter ppl present, smh Keep looking for ghosts like white supremacists |
FactBoyz:Not just property bro, check the death toll from the riots.. Seriously do some research and you’ll see the death toll is about 30 Research Captain David Dorn Research the little child shot in the car with her grandma |
The same Black Lives Matter that rioted all summer last year? The same guys that burnt down city after city? The same guys that destroyed businesses to the tune of billions of dollars? THE SAME GUYS THAT CAUSED THE DEATH OF OVER 30 people last summer? I just hate hypocrisy! One riot on one day by so called republicans and they term it insurrection, but burn down cities, kill children and destroy businesses and they give you a Nobel prize |
May God help us all. Every region needs it's own Legitimate Police Force, like how you have LAPD and NYPD, but also FBI to as the big overseer. However, when you ask the people in the Senate and House, they will tell you... "We are not ready for State Police" ask them 5 years from now they will tell you "We are not ready for State Police" ask them 10 years from now, they will tell you "We are not ready for State Police" ask them 20 years from now, they will tell you "We are not ready for State Police" ... Naijaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa It's like that post here on nairaland that compared the picture of Ibadan from the 70s and 2020, where the 70s picture looked better and more developed. I guess we know the reason for such lack of development... "We are not ready..." |
madmohamed:If you do a YouTube search for Buhari and filter for this month, all you will see is mini videos of him walking about, no audio, no engagement, sigh. The only audio for this month I've seen, is the new years address, and that was just a ONE WAY SPEECH, as in, no questions, just him reading. My point in all of this is that Buhari has set the bar so low... The next president can come in and be even worse, in that, you may never see him/her throughout their tenure. At least the people we borrow democracy from have leaders that do QUESTIONS and ANSWERS. Look at Trump... and even Biden that I personally don't like, still engages reporters. Imagine if American citizens never saw their president, and only got few pictures a month and edited ONE-WAY addresses every 3 to 6 months. I'm sure they'd be asking questions. |
helinues:Hatred? lol So asking for press conferences and interviews from your president equates to hatred? I just don't understand how a democratic president eschews engagement with the people, either directly or via the press, and chooses instead to offer up images to placate the yearnings of the people to hear from their leader. |
helinues:Pictures, pictures and more pictures, that's all you guys ever post. Aren't you ashamed? You couldn't even link to a recent PRESS CONFERENCE, or interview with CHANNELS, AIT, BBC, ALJAZEERA... heck, even NTA... You just post some "Instagram-like" picture, like what? We are supposed to rate his dressing? Ok, Nice shoes I guess, but can we ask him one or two questions? |
Tofax:isn't this crazy though? what you just said and the fact that Nigerians are okay with such a president? It's like crazy has become normal, to have a president no one sees. |
Have you seen your president at all this month? Any interviews with reporters? The president/presidency that no one ever sees, chai |
This issue is becoming serious oooo Yesterday they were even more at that lekki phase 1 traffic light, about 15 boys stormed the cars when the traffic light went red. It makes you feel so unsafe to be stuck at the traffic light at night with boys surrounding your car and no police man in sight May God help Nigeria |
It seems that at every junction in Lagos, every intersection, every traffic light stop is ridden with a multitude of child beggars. Just last night, at a traffic light stop in Lekki, there were about 10 teenage beggars that surrounded cars when the light turned RED. Is there anything like Child Protection Services in Nigeria? For how long will we continue to allow this? What future are we giving to those children? How does this make the Nigerian society look and how does this affect things like tourism? There really has to be a solution to this issue. Left to me, these children should be FORCEFULLY taken away from their parents and educated or trained in a new skill to get them off the streets. This has to be done URGENTLY and CONSISTENTLY (not just a one day raid, but and EVERYDAY RAID). |
Baawaa:but, but, will people vote for him? or will they tell us why a Buhari that was a coup plotting dictator, is much much better than a highly skilled and educated fellow After all, Nigerians were saying back then that "They will vote Buhari even if he presents NEPA bill as certificate' GEJ did not debate, and won presidential election Buhari did not debate and won presidential election Do you see the pattern? Nigerians seem to hate thinkers and do not care about policy one bit... just tribe tribe tribe and maybe garri OPEN any Tinubu 2023 thread, YOU WILL NOT FIND ONE POST ABOUT POLICY, NOT ONE. All you will find is Yorubas turn, jagaban and IPOB what a people |
