MyVILLAGEpeople:We don’t value ourselves at all. The rate at which the Nigerian army/police kill and maim its citizens is alarming. Check out the bbc article when our police had broken a world record of killing more Nigerians than Covid 19, over stay at home order: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc.com/news/amp/world-africa-52317196 Yet no single outcry or protest from Nigerians at large. Then there is the constant tribalism, even here on nairaland. They say whites hate us, but read threads in the politics section and see real hate, then you know the whites are just learners. |
A working country. Here in Nigeria, no protests when our jungle police and military force kill civilians. I remember when the Covid-19 count just started and Nigerian police had killed more Nigerians than Covid 19 itself. Nigerians were barely even talking about it, yet alone protesting. BBC even carried that news to show how absurd it was. RIP to the black man who lost his life and to the many Nigerians who lose their lives from our police force. |
Farki:and the effects of lack of law and order keep piling up day by day. I dream of a Nigeria that rivals Dubai, or at least a Lagos or a Delta that rivals Dubai in town planning. |
EagleNest:I tell you! I haven’t heard of a country were a business was demolished for non compliance. We truly may be living in a zoo/jungle, where anything goes. No law and order left, no blind justice maiden weighing the scales of iniquity with fairness, just so called “Strong Men”. Yet, some folks are still justifying the madness; Sowore was right after all. All these thugs as leaders we have in Nigeria sha? Where are the true intellectuals? Where have they gone? The citizens themselves don’t even know how to choose good leaders, always going for the worst it seems. |
How do we really organize Nigeria? Think deeply about this question. Why don’t we have street blocks that are well organized? Why do pedestrians walk on the roads? Why don’t we have defined sidewalks? Why is our street planning so haphazard? Why do we have Open Gutters on every street? We really do have a long way to go as a people, but I do believe we can get to become an organized society one day. I know so by Gods grace. We just have to put in the work, holding leaders accountable at all levels, as well as ourselves. |
Reference:It is really halving of Nigerians net worth when you think about it. Good catch! |
He is just doing his job of defending who or what ever is president. So even if it was a turd, like a literal turd as president, mr Femi Adesina would have no choice than to defend it. He would be like:- “Without this turd, Nigeria would never have progressed” “Our president has ensured that the fresh air of development must reach all parts of Nigeria” “Our president is strong and capable, but live broadcast is not his style” |
FIatino:They have really worked

What about Lagos rail that Fashola said will be completed in 2013? That was just the first phase ooo https://www.nairaland.com/1156265/lagos-light-rail-ready-june |
kikero:That more cash for subsidy with higher oil prices doesn’t really add up though. I bet if oil shoots up to $100/barrel now, the government would be complaining bitterly about how the pump price has to go up. Reasons why I supported removal of subsidy during GEJ era, but the likes of Buhari and Tinubu were in support. Do you really think it’s easy subsidizing petrol at $100/barrel? |
kikero:Wait, you are saying the higher the price of crude oil, the lower the price of petrol in Nigeria via subsidy? |
Goldencheese:Lol, just take heart bro! don’t let it distract you from mainitaing your clean driving abeg. |
Goldencheese:True! When they now notice you’re in your car, they would say sorry. Problem is most of the time, you won’t be in your vehicle to notice all the events happening with your car. |
There is this negative trend in Nigeria were strangers sit on peoples cars that are parked on the road. Regardless of the cost of the vehicle, this is a bad habit that needs to stop. It makes no sense to just sit on a strangers vehicle like it belongs to you. However, this seems a lot worse when the vehicle is an expensive vehicle. Just last night, I was sitting in my car with an unoccupied Benz parked in front of me. Some young guy just came and sat on it. I really thought nothing of it, thinking it was his own vehicle, that was until he moved over and started resting on another vehicle. I had to drive over to him and ask “is that Benz your car?”, to which he responded, “no”. Incredible!!! You should have seen the way he was sitting down on the Benz, almost lying down as if it was his car; a fresh shiny Benz ooooo Sigh, I was quite livid to say the least, even if it wasn’t my vehicle as well. What gives you the right to disrespect someone else’s property that way. This happens too often here in Nigeria and we need to caution those we find pulling such a stunt. |
When they say the black man is cursed, black people would start shouting. I just read sarki’s thread on the collapse of Nigerian Airways and was thinking to myself, “we need the best leaders in Nigeria to reverse a whole lot of damage”. Then I spot this thread next, open it and see the same black people engaged in heavy debate, not on how to move the country forward, but about which tribe will rule. Can you imagine? Who really cursed black people? I mean, I’m almost in tears right now. You mean you guys haven’t suffered enough? The epileptic power situation, the collapsed Nigerian airways, the bad roads, the lawless driving, lack of security, Boko Haram, lack of quality education, dying currency, high unemployment rates, double digit inflation, economic depression, over population, high illiteracy rates... Yet all you can think about is “which tribe”? Is that how far your intellect will take you? For the past few presidential elections in Nigeria, those who win are those who don’t participate in presidential debates. That is to show you that you black people don’t even care about policies, all you care about is tribe. Nigeria that was supposed to serve as a beacon of hope for the entire black race. Look at us, sacrificing skill and competence on the altar of tribalism, to appease the gods of mediocrity. Who cursed black people? |
unite4real:Well, kudos to the administrator responsible for the road you mentioned that gets its lanes renewed periodically. A good example of a road with perfect lane markings though is airport road Abuja. When traveling on that road, you forget for a second that you are still within Nigeria and the drivers all seem to adhere to lane discipline. However, that is not the case for majority of the roads I’ve seen in Lagos and Abuja. Majority of roads have barely visible lane markings, as they have faded over time, leading drivers to zig zag through unmarked roads. We need a standard for road rules in Nigeria and that standard cannot be possible if majority of our roads aren’t marked. You can’t cite the USA as an example of a country with unmarked roads, cause those who live there will attest to the fact that such roads are in the minority, maybe found in rural settings and even at that, it’d still be a rarity. I took a computer based driving test in the USA and most of the questions involved knowing the meanings of lane markings. Yellow lanes, solid lanes, dashed lanes, emergency lanes, H.O.V lanes, e.t.c How can we have such tests here in Nigeria when the citizens themselves drive daily on roads without such lanes. Even a road as prestigious as Lekki Epe expressway, doesn’t have lanes on most parts of it as they are all faded. |
Moventist:Oh, I thought the guy in blue was him. |
naijaschoolguru:Lol, hilarious |
hothead:Very good business opportunity bro, if the government is willing to maintain contracts with indigenous companies that will paint/spray lane markings on all our roads. |
One day, a president will come that will open up the secretive Aso Rock to tourism. Sowore comes to mind. I pray Nigerians vote for him or someone better in the next elections, not the useless APC and PDP clowns. Imagine charging N20,000 per head for a tour of the compounds. Both citizens and foreigners will rush such a tour. |
Some roads may have lanes when just constructed, but as soon as they start to fade away, that is the end of the lane marking on that road, almost never to be re-marked again. Generation after generation of Nigerian drivers keep adapting to the lawlessness of driving on roads without lane markings, further worsening the already chaotic driving situation aided by low level enforcement of law and order by the police force. I guess to some, we should rejoice at the fact that we even have roads in the first place. Unfortunately, these people are somewhat justified, in the sense that, the unsightly sight of bad roads pervades the entire country. All in all, we need to promote order in our society and lane markings are a step towards order, at least in terms of road transportation. You cannot aspire to become a developed country and ignore the details, because the details are far from trivial.

Notice how Wikes face mask is not covering his nose. |
I thought facemask was to cover the nose also and not just the mouth. So who will demolish this building and auction off the cars of the attendees? |
Vanessa88:Vaseline is very important in our day to day lives. |
Macsjebs:Yay me!!! |
Seun:Please Seun make me a moderator of this forum. |
Arabiandude:Na wa for humans sha You read and saw that schools and some houses were destroyed and the first thing that came to your mind was “lol”? |
Why did they first allow them to build? In Nigeria, those in charge will just come and mark an already built house as an illegal structure, but where were they when the structure was being built? What happened during foundation, fencing stages? |
Maxymilliano:Exactly! He said it when he just appointed. He didn't know about trains that were already in existence and tracks being worked on. |
Remember when Amaechi said that? He didn’t even realize that GEJ was revitalizing the rail sector. He had said this when he was appointed minister of transportation :- “In fact, I think we have a problem; most people don’t believe that the railway transport is functioning in Nigeria. I didn’t even know, until I started this tour, I never knew that the railway was functioning, it was even from his (MD’s) speech that I learnt that there are some coaches or services that go to Kano or Port Harcourt or elsewhere.” |
PlayerMeji:Just imagine after working for only 8 years max, you get all these for the rest of your life. |
