juicee1: @bold.
Do you think building on an artificial island is something you have to rush as if it's just a local site? If you know the amount of work that needs to go down in the foundation of Eko atlantic city, you won't be here saying the above. They need to lay underground drainage and electric cables which have all been done. The broad street called eko boulevard has been done. Buildings are rising while you are here typing. @bold. You mean all multinationals will move cos alaba international moved?
But there's no sea in your own part of the east.
is thesame thing not obtainable with SW?
wrong! It's because the yorubas worked for it. Lagos was already huge before any government. what makes you think those buildings are empty?
Na wah o!
That high rise architecture has even spread to VI, ikoyi and lekki. If high rise buildings on lagos island aren't getting patronage, why would any sane human continue to build such? Pls reason. Hey, stop giving me lies because I pass there everyday. Eko atlantic is only a mirage and there's only one building there as we speak. So what's the farce you're trying to pass. I didn't mention Alaba market, did I? There's a tributary in the east which is not far from the atlantic ocean. If you have to know, its only 5miles from the sea itself while the other tributary in imo is only 30miles from the sea. Its the truth. Lagos state is at the edge of the country. You'll have to pass through ogun before you get to ondo or oyo state. If you're conversant with the news and travel a lot, you'll see the number of accidents on the road to these states on weekly basis. That's bad for business, brother. Stop making yourself feel good. Go to these buildings and check every floor and see if there are companies there. I'm not saying based on hearsay, I'm there and still there. Businesses are folding up on daily basis. So what are you talking about. Today you will this consulting in bookshop house, tomorrow you'll see a letter from court asking the company to evacuate the premises. I know what I'm talking about. I am not hating on Lagos, Lagos enjoyed what they wanted it to enjoy. But since Lagos won't be doing any real business in the coming years and the people still living from hand to mouth without savings. People will leave lagos. Tell your governors to do more of rebranding because you only have the indians, chinese and lebanese who do business in short term in Lagos. |

you are not talking to an illiterate, there is a difference between trading and business.
I don't have time to school you. My/our contention is that ibos go replicate that businesse saviness in alaigbo and stop polluting our land with unskilled man power in the millions. Our infrastructure is under great strain. We showed Nigeria to the Asian world. Just know that and that's good business for you guys. |

What people don't understand is that the investors in Nigeria are short term investors. They cannot invest in long term business in Nigeria. All of you haven't been recording the economy of Nigeria in recent times. All your contractors are begging federal governments and state government for contracts. All of those high rise buildings on the island is all mirage.
If you enter those buildings, you'll see how empty and lifeless they are. Nothing works in the country anymore, if you have to know. The eko atlantic island is a mere farce. How many buildings have been erected there since they started it?
These big companies you pride yourself will relocate anytime they see the market move. A multinational company will prefer is place dense with people from different states with ready money to spend. The SS/SE provides you with this option because of the heart of the economy is there. What Lagos is thriving is because of the sole port they have. They're using it to exploit other regions. If a seaport can spring up in the east, I tell you, if you're good with business, you'll know that they'll run to the east.
Why?
If you import your goods through this region, you'll hit the stomach of the country through the middle. And moreso, the states are easily linked therefore, you won't spend much in spreading your goods. If you import through Abia for instance, you can connect Portharcourt, Akwa ibom, Imo, Enugu, Ebonyi state at the same time at the same pace without any of customer waiting! With people willing to do business which the igbos have that acumen more than any other region, your business will skyrocket.
Lagos is enjoying what the government wants it to enjoy. But its detrimental to the economy of this country.
Like I said, don't be fooled by High-rise buildings. Most are empty! |

It is very important for us to go our separate ways. If the population of Nigeria eventually reach 200 million, it won't be well with those people asking us to stay because the economy cannot keep this entity anymore. We should go our separate ways. Biko |

PenSniper: I share your perception on the need for this country to seperate but i believe that doing so peacefully will augur well for everybody. Honestly speaking, there is no region of this country, east, west or north, that cannot sustain itself in the event of seperation.
I recollected Gowon saying that the basis for nigeria unity did not exist at all but why he failed to act appropriately beats me hollow. Especially with Awolowo's steadfast emphasis on the fact nigeria was merely a geographical expression, meaning that its unity wasn't sustainable. It was unfortunate that the yoruba were virtually non-existent in the army during the crisis because our people saw the profession and the police as belonging to the low life so it was generally discouraged by most families. However, it served as a terrible setback for us because otherwise, we were convinced that Awolowo and our leaders would've taken the SW out of Nigeria.
When Awolowo gave the FG ultimatum to withdraw northern soldiers from the SW that his people saw them as an army of occupation and the call was immediately heeded, a staggering reality followed - that yoruba footsoldiers were so scanty that we had'nt sufficient number to even man our porous borders talkless of defending the land. I remembered my uncle who told us this weeping like a child on his return from an elders' meeting saying the statistic was the reason the SW could not attempt a breakaway because the british and some powerful countries were solidly behind the north and that strangely, they seemed to hate the idea of Awolowo leading a seperate country out of nigeria. So the conclusion reached at the meetings was that an attempt might be suicidal.
Thanks for your apology about the Ebute Metta bombing. Is it not ironic that you even lived in the area too ? Actually, i would've been a victim but still pertially one. I lost a very close friend; both of us were cinema addicts. On that particular night, we planned to go but it so happened that an elderly neighbour of mine, a man we knew as Ibo ( kobokobo) as we new them, but wether he was from the core east or mid-west, we could'nt say, advised me to shelve my going because i suddenly developed a runing stomach. This man had a hotel (Right Time Hotel) almost opposite my residence. The bus stop was directly in front of this hotel, so while i waited for my friend to join me at the bus stop, i decided to ask this hotel proprietor ( he was one of numerous ibos that refused to heed the call to return home) what i could use to suppress the stooling but he told me to shelve my going if i didn't want to make myself a nuisance to other viewers by patronising the toilet constantly coupled with the fact that i would not even enjoy the film anyway. I decided to heed his advice but my friend decided to go all the same and that was how i lost him. He died later to a fatal injury. Call it fate. Since we both experienced a failed attempt at seperation, i pray that the Lord grant us the uncommon grace to witness a peacefully successful dissolution of the discordant and incompatible union. Oh my goodness, this is a wonderful write-up from a learned and well-read man. I salute your intelligence and condole on your friend's death. I really hope for a peaceful dissolution of this union, if it comes to war, I will really fight to avoid war. I can still remember vividly the way we had to come up from scratch to become what we're now and it wasn't easy. I have been reading different news in this country and you'll see that things are going from bad to worse everyday. Many graduates are at home. Go to job/vacancy on nairaland and look at the number of people looking for jobs. Its very bad. Many of our learned brothers have turned to one mode of survival to another. This is not good. The question I always ask, if oil was in the core north, will southerners populate the NNPC like the northerner dominate all NNPC offices in the south. God, in his infinite kindness see the cries of our people and liberate us from parasitic associations. |

We have more land than we need. Anambra state alone is bigger than Lagos, yet Lagos accommodates about 20 million people and lagos is even sprawled, hardly any highrises. Our planners will make sure that we are not crammed up in match box homes, because we don't need to. We have enough land for everything we need, Many of our brothers will find themselves home when the time comes. This will be a big deal when you have too many people in the region. Lagos is filled with people squatting everyday because of accommodation. The problem of accommodation will have to be looked into. |

PenSniper: I feel really moved by your treatise. But i must say you are a drop in a tea-cup. This is the sort of thing that should be happening between us, the ibo and yoruba, exchanging ideas, advising one another and planning together from which we both stand to benefit a lot.
Let us agree that our forefathers sowed the seed of discord amongst us in their time, but must we propergate such attitude in this century ? Can we sustain such feelings without leading to needless conflagration ?
I witnessed the war as a youth. Any sane yoruba will feel incensed by ibos' vilification of his tribe over the war rather than being grateful to us for the following reasons - 1. I lived at Fadeyi, along Ikorodu road at the time. The northern soldiers, who we refered to jokingly as " godogodo", prowled around picking up ibos while our people were shielding and hiding those they could from arrest. Many of such ibos remained in our midst, fed by our people throughout the war. I was a living witness.
2. No ibo was recorded to have been harrassed or molested in the entire SW. Our sympathy recided with the ibos over what happened in the north. It was an issue freely discussed by our people.
3. Awolowo risked his life against all the conceivable odds to visit Ojukwu to advise him against the mission in order to prevent what followed. Don't forget he must've been privy to some military and diplomatic data at the federal end before this trip. It is not impossible that their discussions were recorded by Ojukwu's aids. But instead of spreading innuendos about Awo and the yoruba, why didn't Chinua Achebe or any of the inner circle publish this record to let the world know what really transpired if not for mischief.
4. It was only yoruba people, in the persons of late Tai Solarin and Wole Soyinka who risked their lives to supply food aids and other items to our ibo brethren in the war. Be reminded that our people and leaders were fully aware of these missions but did not discourage them. The actions of the duo was a carry-forward of the feelings of sympathy of our people for the ibo, hence they weren't dissuaded.
5. Inspite of all the above, the ibo decided to plant the first deadly bomb at a yoruba cinema in a yoruba residential area at Ebute Meta with no other mission intended than to kill yorubas.
6. The ibos decided to invade our land without involving our leaders knowing full well the risk factor for our people.
7. We can safely assume that we and the ibos are not related but after the war, it is on record that every surviving ibo person who left property behind in the entire SW had their property handed back to them on their return. There were even cases of some that had tenants in their property who had all the areas of rentage paid to them to start a new life.
Whereas, the issue of abandoned property came up in PH, a city populated by the close cousins of the ibo.
So if an average yoruba gets pissed off by the ibo at the turn of events can any sane person blame them ? Nay what did the yoruba need to do to be their brothers' keeper that they failed to do ? Victor Banjo was executed along with ibo officers and died for the biafra cause.
Throughout the war, i resided at 4, Ikorodu road, Fadeyi, so i was a living witness and an avid reader of Daily Times, etc.
As for the yoruba planning for self-determination, be rest assured that we are not sitting idle but don't believe in raising dust until its necessary.
From the statenents of our leaders, you would've noticed that they always harp on a return to full regionalism or else. Of all the tribes south of the Niger it is the yoruba that has suffered more setback and carried the brunt if unitary system of government. We are fully convinced that Nigeria is an unsustainable experiment that can't work.
Adios. I understand that there were anomalies in the war that cannot be taken back and from what my elder brother told me, he said they didn't want to attack the yorubaland but the capital. The midwestern invasion was a result of distraction of the federal forces who had taken over of owerri. So, they thought the need to protect their region will make them reduce forces at owerri and try to take back the midwestern region. The bombing of ebute metta was a result of the fact that Lagos was the capital. I stayed in Ebute Metta, infact. I'm sorry if it affected you in anyway. Those were the consequence of war. I am not mincing words, I don't like the setting of this country. Its too parasitic. I'm not suffering but a well-read man will understand that the system is too parasitic. If we can go our separate ways and be good neighbours, then excellent. I will still love to come to lagos to do business while you can do business in Aba. Everyone will respect his/her hosts. If a people with a population as much as the other people cannot bring anything to the table. The people should be divided and let them find what they can do for themselves. I am still saying it, the economy will be going a down spiral until this country divides and everyone develop at his own pace. |

To be frank with you, I don't hate yorubas. You can never see me insult them. But I want them to start fighting to be independent. The country can't stand again. Many people feel I hate Buhari but the economy is crumbling and will continue to crumble.
Why?
We can't determine the oil price and the foreign market. We're like a puppet in the world market. I am seriously saying this, the north is enjoying from anything that's happening. You ask me how? The number of graduates in their part is really small. Give them okada and they'll be thankful. But we try to educate our children to go to school and get something doing. When we get educated we're in one way indebted to the outcome of the international market. So, when it doesn't favour us, we remain unemployed and any attempt at business will fail.
Yorubas have the resources and I pray someone should stand up and fight. I read the other day that dangote and his brothers wants to invest in your gold mines. Another money that your brother should enjoy will still go up north and your brother cannot invest in the gold in sokoto.
Please, I am not divisive, I am only saying we should enjoy what we have to help our own brothers. If you like, give others from good will. |

Nnamdi was really motivated but like the bad boy that he is, he started dreaming of how to show off to his friend Wale who lives around the corner and rides an old rickety bicycle . He said he would ride the bike at great speed towards Wale's house, then swerve, do lots of stunts, raise dusts and scare everyone shopping at Wales mum's kiosk just in front of the house. His dad delivered a blinding slap and shouted at him.
"Idiot do you want to spoil the bicycle, onye iberibe".
You might have heard or read this story/joke I'm different forms.
I see lots of stunts and raising of dusts here. They are not necessary. It's nice to dream but what stops us from putting into practice all the beautiful dream listed in the post?
What stops the execution of the Agric project? Trailers loads of tomatoes and all types of vegetables keep coming from the north that many people speak ill against, cattle, goats etc. what stops us putting into practice all the beautiful town planning and survey plans listed here. Are we going to wait till all the available spaces have been turned to another onitsha? Do you think it'll be possible to start smashing and demolishing buildings like mr Kanu has been saying? Don't we have an El rufai to sort the land and survey issues once and for all?
Apart from the defence part of the post, most of the things enumerated are achievable if done right and within Nigeria. You don't need Biafra to achieve those. We can build and manage highly efficient and advanced healthcare system by building hospitals with state of the art equipment and the personnel to manage them. Why not start now.
Why not encourage and sponsor sports and youth development. Do we have to wait Biafra comes before we do that?....
..to be contd. That is why I say we should start what's called "diaspora tax" system. This will enable us kick-start the dream before it becomes a reality. It is better done now and when the whole thing starts, we won't start from scratch. |

pazienza: Lol! Yorubas are the only group in Africa that can match and even outdo Biafrans if they put their mind into it , Oodua country has the potential to match and even outrun Biafra in human development indices.
But the problem is that they are too obsessed with the Igbo man progress, that they often lose sight of the big picture, which is the fact that stopping the Igbo man progress, will not make them progressive. They can only progress by working on their own progress, without minding whatever the Igbo man is doing. I know they have the intellectual power to do things but they have become lazy over time. They have started becoming too dependent on the state and that's not good for a people who will want future development. The yoruba people have a lot of intelligent people amongst them, so if they can sit down and see the importance of the cocoa, bitumen, gold and access to the sea. They can actually grow. But the problem is, they've grown weak and they just want sit down and do nothing about their freedom. No doubt, no ethnic group will suffer when secession comes. I foresee the yorubas doing well on their own rather than this unholy union. They should start seeking independence, it will help their people more so that they can fully develop the potential of their land. Nigerians don't have the technical know-how to hold a population of 170million. The number of people that will continue to suffer will continue to increase. We keep lying to ourselves that we're blessed with natural resources. The natural resources deposits cannot develop a people of 170million. So, its better they find solution to their future now. |

I will love to add. Biafra will be a small country, which will be an asset on its own because developing it will be very easy.
We should use tunnel system of transporting goods. This tunnel system will pass through all the local governments, so that goods imported or manufactured from other parts of the country will be gotten in due time and need for trailers will be drastically reduced.
My proposal about the health sector is this. I want us to create a health system which will be world class. We can even use it as a means of foreign exchange. We will build in such a way that, people will see it as a place where all your sickness will be treated. There will world class machines and environment for this sector.
I support the proposal that oil and gas should at first not be exported for obvious reasons. We should use it develop the system first before allowing anyone to export. Its very important. The craze for oil is too much and we shouldn't allow that in the new country.
I believe Biafra have many genius and extremely intelligent people outside our shores. We should allow them come and teach the younger ones ICT. I think ICT is the future and if we can robustly develop the knowledge in our coming generation, oh! We will beat anyone.
Biafra will stop treating commerce like the way they're doing now. Biafra will set up agencies that will research on growing businesses in the world and industries. This will enable them advice prospective business starters about the dangers of the businesses and also the gain. This will reduce the risk prospective business owner will encounter when they delve into the particular business.
Biafra will not wait for westerners to build industries. We should develop the culture of build, develop and sell. This will make foreign investors see the business as an already growing business and see reasons to buy and develop it more. This will enable us employ our people and moreso, gain from the sale.
Many Biafrans will love to come home when the time comes, so we should be able to provide accommodation for the large number of people that will troop in. I propose a housing formular where most housing estates will not be less than 8 storey buildings. We're more than our land can carry plus agriculture and industry. Its important we plan that aspect before we continue anything.
I don't think we should wait till the actualisation before kick-start this venture because the reason why people are still finding it difficult is that they've not seen laid down amenities that will give them the enabling environment to come home. I will to propose what is called "diaspora tax system". This system of taxation will be mild and will not affect you in anyway but if full participation is seen, the result will be astronomic in our chase for enabling environment. The money gotten from this tax system will be used separately but with state government approval to start developing the region drastically. We will use trusted people. And see this projects come to life. We can also adopt the BOT (build, operate and transfer) method. This will make the region stand before we make it standard!
My humble submission. |
