Foreign AffairsRe: Footage Of Ghaddafi In His Last Moments Getting Beat Up. Disturbing by violent(m): 9:29am On Oct 27, 2011
i get the feeling your classmate didnt really tell you what was going on. his relative was probably a dissident or someone who tried to plot a coup against ghaddafi or something along those lines. your classmate took you for a fool to evoke the sympathy vote from you.
Can i infer from your post that all those peaceful protesters who were shot during the initial stages of the civil war are "dissidents" who dared to demand an end to a 42 year dictatorship or were they all just a product of western media fabrication?

So the death of my friend's 6 year old relative who was shot by assassins while walking along with his mum can be counted as an acceptable loss but when his relatives get angry and they, along with several other angry others, take up arms, fight tooth and claw, shed their tears, blood and sweat, till they see the last of the dictator, it becomes cruel?

those who lost loved ones to Ghaddafi's cruelty, knows where the shoe truly hurts, and they were they ones who wouldn't have stopped at anything till they saw the end of the pig!

here's a video for you too, since you will have us believe that Ghaddafi's death was unfair!

arrant babble. the man is a visionary leader. if he did those things purported by you, then i would expect any member of the supposed third world  nation to look at him like a hero. heck we have always been at the wrong end of terrorism from the western countries a la colonialism, imperialism slavery and brutality. the fact that one of our own supposed third world brother is engaging the devil in his game of terror and doing the lockerbie bombing thing and the rest of the terror act he supposedly did against the west means that the man is truly one of a kind. just because he is not a docile submissive and visionless person like yourself is why you hate the man. you look at the man and you see the traits in him that you dont have and it pisses you off. just cuz the white man broke off a few crumbs for you in texas, you are here running your mouth like you done lost your dayum sense.
You are speaking in bullshyt sir!

I'd place a large bet you were never in Libya, never have lived in Libya, never knew Ghaddafi, and that your claims are largely based on anti-western sentiments than they are by realistic facts!

I have a former classmate whose relative was shot by snipers hired by Ghaddafi in Libya. . .and no, this was not a news from CNN or aljazeera!

You lots should stop kissing a dead man's arse!. . .his people hated him, they wanted him to leave. . .he refused. .he unleashed the might of his military on them. . , .the got assistance from United Nations and Nato. . .and he came back crying "oh the west are at it again,. . imperialism. . colonialism. . bla bla bla"!

I've seen many iidiots popping up from all funny holes to pay tribute to their "brother leader".  They ignored his crime and branded him a victim of western oppression and western media.

Ah yes, those many iidiots are quick to point out that Libyans are well to do during his regime, everybody owned a home, bla bla bla bullshyttt!!!

Here is a video posted by a former Libyan classmate who lost a relative to Ghaddfi's terror!!. . .i expect these iidiots to come out in packs and try to convince us that the video was made in hollywood by American actors who are bent on stealing Libyan oil!

It's often said that a corpse is just a corpse until that corpse is your pops! those who lost their friends and relatives to bullets fired by Ghaddafi's tanks will forever live to mourn them!!. .  . . .Nigerians who are half brained or sadly in many cases, brain dead, should shut the fck up and stop kissing Ghaddafi's dead arse!. . .those who feel the hurt the most are the Libyans, and to them, even Ghaddafi's death is not enough to heal the wounds and scars left behind by his crimes!

This country is a disgrace! Unchecked levels of poverty has reduced several Nigerians to slaves on their own soil!

meanwhile somewhere else, the reps and senators who relied on your votes are busy buying mansions and taking mistresses, they can't be bothered with revising existing laws!. ,

Now AMCON has injected N550b into IBPLC, turned their negative shareholders fund to positive (just as in the case of the nationalized banks) and decided to sell at a rock bottom price of N50b! Thats where everybody has an issue
This rightly sums up what now looks like the biggest banking fraud in Nigerian history!

When FDI flows to Nigeria, everybody would say they are repatriating our economy. Now, Nigeria is investing as multinational in another country, everybody is crying fowl. Before you crucify, look deeply at the possible justification. 1. It is an investment and should bring in profit to Nigeria at the end of the day. I hope you know how much MTN takes out of our economy to South Africa. FDI to another country is not a bad idea. 2. We re expanding our crude oil export destinations to include Indonesia. That's balance of trade surplus and increased revenue, foreign reserve account, etc. I am not saying that there is no disadvantage. I am only saying that be objective before you insult your president.
FDI my black @rse!

MTN employs thousands of Nigerians, pays taxes to this country, contributes massively to Nigeria's GDP and output and above all is privately, not state owned, citing this as an example is just plain useless!

It's only a retardeen that spends his country's valuable resources in stimulating another country's production output while 1 in 3 employable youths of his country are out of jobs and the manufacturing firms in his country are practically non existent!

This same retardeen spent billions importing bins from the UK.

This same retardeen spent up to 50 million naira on an ugly anniversary cake!

This same retardeen approved 7 billion in December 2009 for the construction of the vice president's house!

An adage says "If you put a child that only knows how to sleep on the floor, on a mat to sleep, the child will in any case end up on the floor". . . .this retardeen who had no shoes and carried his books on his head will invariably ruin what is left of what used to be a great country!

thnks @dayokanu for coming up with the retardeen word

CareerRe: Pharmacy As Second Degree Or Msc by violent(m): 6:47am On Oct 07, 2011
AjanleKoko:
Nigerian pharmacists don't stand behind counters per se. Most of the 'chemist' shops are just local patent medicine men. The local drug market has been all but wiped out by the influx of cheaper substitutes from India and Malaysia.

As per 'big companies', I presume you are referring to the likes of Pfizer and Glaxo Smith Kline. The pharmacists who work there are all glorified sales men, sales reps in fact.
erhm, so, if the guys at the shops are the local patent medicine men and the little ones that made it to the pfizers of this world only work as glorified sales rep, where d hell are the thousands of graduates that are churned out by our Unis on a yearly basis?

My take is, they are all likely into business, doing runz, working with dad, looking for government contracts, lecturing, crime, or simply at home doing nothing?
CareerRe: Strongest Motivator For Employees In Nigeria? by violent(m): 6:33am On Oct 07, 2011
AjanleKoko:
Sounds more like they were risk-averse, not that they didn't like money.
so you would agree then, that outside money, there are several other factors including the risk attitude of individuals, that explains the motivation of people to take on certain roles?

for instance, an individual might likely not take a job that pays an extra £2000 a month, simply because he loves working with the people he's currently working with, enjoys the challenging nature of the job, the work environment being relaxed and less bureaucratic,  gets to travel around the world often, more holidays a year, access to medical insurance and the guarantee that compared to several other roles, when you wake up the following day, your job will still be there!

An average employee at Google will not leave for GS even though the latter pays a lot much more,. . . .the reason is not far fetched, at Google, the work environment is simply a better home away from home.  Employees have access to free lunch and a sleeping pad! . . . .yes, that's right, a sleeping pad at work!. . .and that's not just about it, at Google, you get to wear your jeans to work, get free haircuts onsite, dogs are allowed, engineers are allowed time off to simply "think" and generate creative ideas, and if you can't come up with one, it's still okay!. . . . (i could go on, but it's probably not polite to bore you)

why would anyone leave all that for better pay which translates to higher taxes?
CareerRe: Strongest Motivator For Employees In Nigeria? by violent(m): 9:08pm On Oct 06, 2011
AjanleKoko:
I think it is money everywhere. Not just Nigeria. Especially not Nigeria. After all, the current global financial meltdown is not caused by Nigeria.

Majority of employees are motivated primarily by remuneration. Other stuff like 'career progression' and 'fulfillment' can be easily transcribed to mean 'more and more money, period'. It's in human nature for people to want to couch their true instincts with other less crass-sounding monikers. We're not altruistic beings.

I want to be promoted primarily cos it sucks to be everybody's doormat. I call that 'career progression'. Also I can have all the office perks, a nice ride and house in a posh area of town, fly first class everywhere. Then I call that 'career fulfillment'. Yeah right, is that not more money? Or maybe I should say money and glamour, which in essence is still money.

There are a few human beings who are motivated by something entirely different. Think Gandhi, think Mother Teresa. Those people never got paid for their labours, in fact Gandhi got offed for his trouble. grin Guys like those two never asked anybody for money, in fact they gave up reasonably comfortable lifestyles to do really shytty stuff. Stuff nobody else ever wants to do. I certainly do not want to do that.
I think it depends on individual, I have worked with a few individuals who could easily earn lots of money somewhere else, but chose a job that offered less pay, reduced stress, and a more reassuring job security!. . . .These are people who could earn up to £300k annually on a trading desk somewhere, but with those jobs come long hours of stress and a risk that someone could easily scream those horrible words (you are fired) from a couple of desks away!

How anyone could possible oppose this, is beyond what i can comprehend.  I'd rather we risk losing a little privacy and live with the concious feeling that the government is taking proactive measures to stem the ugly tide of terror than have it the other way round.

Let's deal with terror first, every other thing comes remotely secondary!
CrimeRe: Woman Poisoned Her 9 Year Old Son And Burnt His Corpse by violent(m): 9:23pm On Oct 04, 2011
@violent, you have choice now. You can decide to kill hundreds and get away with it (or even ends up collecting monthly allowee) or, kill your son and get death sentence. I wonder why anybody would be showing sympathy towards people that have no regards for the right of others to live. At least, this judgement is better than that of last week's execution of black American guy.
I'm not making a position on the whether or not the death sentence handed to her is Just, my point is that the Justice system that punishes one and rewards others who the government is incapable of apprehending is nothing but a big joke.  The fact that people hail such a system makes you all look really sick in the head!

What makes it even worse? . . .the way and manner in which investigations are conducted in this country is crude and far beyond archaic!  The Judge relied on what he called a confessional statement from the woman in his ruling; no other evidence was examined, not a single witness, no DNA results proved that the boy was indeed poisoned, no camera footage or video makes the accused person guilty without doubt, not a single medical evidence was mentioned on the woman's state of mind. . . .to the Judge, her confessional statement was proof enough that she committed the crime and for that, she was handed the capital punishment.

Anyone who has had one thing or the other to do with Police would know that the Police can obtain any statement they wish to from an accused person and they wouldn't spare any effort in breaking every single human right law known to man, in obtaining such information.  I have witnessed a situation in a Police station where an accused was beaten blue black and tortured with a boiling ring, just because he held on to a version of a story which was not good enough for the Investigating officer.  The dude in mention was told to write a confessional statement that he was part of a robbery gang, even though he was arrested for traffic offense.

I am all for Capital Punishment if indeed it has been proven without doubt that the accused in mention committed the offense. . .but a Justice system that makes use of confessional statement that more likely than not has been obtained under duress, in delivering a Judgement, as irreversible as Capital Punishment, is pathetic and laughable!

and even the press makes such pathetic statements as this. . . .

She must have killed the boy because of the trauma she passed in the hand of the unknown military man.
. . .  .again, no facts, merely conjectures!. . .the writer may be a drunk, who knows, all sorts of beer parlour rumors flying up and down the place, and being released for consumption by the public. . . .  ., and boy, here's the NLs public swallowing hook, line sinker; with some calling for her head on a wooden stake!
CrimeRe: Woman Poisoned Her 9 Year Old Son And Burnt His Corpse by violent(m): 3:44pm On Oct 04, 2011
Kill one person and you risk being sentenced to death by hanging.

Kill thousands of people, evade the laughable security apparatus of the government, kill hundreds of more people, threaten the President, blow up the Police headquarters, blow up the United Nations building,. . . .and you might still end up getting Amnesty plus other mouth watering offers for life!

. . . .and then you wonder where Justice truly lies!
CareerRe: Forum For Lecturers And Others In The Academia by violent(m): 2:57pm On Oct 03, 2011
AjanleKoko:
Cramming is part of education, actually.
In fact, it's doubtful that you can get through many science programs without cramming at all.
Nigeria's education problem is not caused by cramming.
I disagree!

Cramming isn't a process of establishing knowledge.  Education is meant to provide knowledge, experience the application of knowledge and then apply knowledge gained in problem solving.

I believe the roots and problem with cramming can be traced to the problem with several course contents and also the way a student's knowledge about a subject is tested. Lecturers are increasingly providing information that are less relevant and not easily applicable in practical sense, or observable in the real world to students.  There are information that your brain shouldn't have a need to hold on to,. . . . . .an example will be the biological names of every plant specie in the world. . . . .in this case, lecturers shouldn't test student for these information as it is impracticable that a student will require the use of this knowledge  by heart, information on this can always be obtained at the snap of your fingers with the gazillion amounts of technology that makes it possible to do so in this time and age.

For instance, rather than give a question that tests a student's ability to remember the "almighty formula" for algebraic equation, it's a lot more efficient to test his ability to derive and apply the formula.  Cramming will mostly occur with the former, while the latter shows knowledge and sound understanding.
