We told Ribadu, you can't work with bad leaders to make them good - the right thing to do is join hands to chase bad leaders far away from power. Working with them is not an option.

nex: I do no like General Muhammadu Buhari simply for the first reason that he is, and will always be a dictator. The second reason being that he's ruled this nation as a despot in his youth, and is today, still grappling power with the youths. However, to fall for the PDP's ploy of painting Buhari as a sponsor of Boko Haram, that takes a special level of senility.

That letter explained, just like I've always said, that there is more than 1 Boko Haram:

1. Those fighting against Western Education being imposed on them, who were almost totally wiped out in 2009.
2. Those created by "disgruntled element who lost out in the PDP Presidential Primaries" (Atiku).
3. Those extremists you have been looking waiting for a movement to begin who a capitalizing on this opportunity that Atiku and his cohorts created.

Even the SSS has tried hard, but all their reports, and a couple of their arrests have pointed to the PDP. I'm sorry for anybody who believes this new ploy by the PDP, and I hope General Buhari, and also the Saudi government will wash their hands away from this most implicatory attempt to rope them into what they know not about.

It is most irresponsible for Reuben Abati to begin commending this extension of amnesty by Boko Haram to the Federal Government, when he has not given the intelligence agencies the time and space to confirm the authenticity of this representative as a member of Boko Haram, and also, identify which of the Boko Haram categories is being represented.
I disagree with you on a number of points raised above on Buhari but our thoughts align on the speed with which Fed gov accepted the purported offer from the faceless BH member - no need for scrutiny, no need for discussion with security and intelligent agents, etc. You begin to smell rat - were they waiting for the call and have therefore prepared their acceptance response? PDP is Boko Haram.

Buhari knew nothing about the coup? so the plotters plotted without a take over plan?
Leave the crappy media campaigns that was bent on selling Buhari to us. Yet even at that, Buhari as democrat would had resisted the coup rather than taking the lion share of the proceeds.
After all, people like Ojukwu first coup.

emm, did you say Ironsi plotted the first coup?
Aaaaahhh. You are obviously not reading your history books well. Ironsi emergence as the Head of State was as a result of a failed coup: a coup which was frustrated by loyal Igbo officers even though most of them were later killed in cold blood an orgy of revenge.

That apart, the military took us several years backwards. Buhari belongs to the gang of over zealous military officers who believed that the rest of us are all dumb.
From 1960 till date, the same group of people have sworn to make run our destinies.

No way Sir! This is a new order. We can't go back to yesterday. Buhari and co belongs to our dark history and for your information, despite all the gra gra, Nigeria is still trying to find her feet as a Nation.

It is a pity that Nigeria is not a Nation and cannot be a Nation especially with this kind of fraudulent structure as promoted by Buhari and co.

The sooner we sit down and discuss our "oneness", the better, else, I have no option than to pledge allegiance to Biafra.

taharqa: You are frankly looking pathetic now @Demdem; it is not cowardly to admit a mistake, it is actually a sign of Strength.

We have "strong LINKS as to those involved in this terror war on Nigeria and Nigerians" (which was what was actually QUOTED as the words of the President and what really matters) and even the newspaper's interpretation of that quote "strong evidence on the identity of those involved in the recurrent bomb attacks across the country" IS NOT THE SAME as "there is list of the sponsors of BH on the President's desk" (this was what you said).

There quoted statement of the President (the 1st statement) is an intelligent security-proof way of saying the govt was opening LINKS, though strong ones (and you obviously have no clue what this technical term mean in the Intelligence community) to those people INVOLVED in the violence (the words 'involved' is a smart way of been non-specific); NOW compare to your own interpretation of that same quote where you said there was a LIST (that is a word that connotes CERTAINTY which is completely different from the actual words used by the President 'links') and you also said that this 'list' contained the 'sponsors of BH' when the quote you were interpreting (or rather misinterpreting) used the term 'those people involved' (which could be mean BH terroists themselves, their sympthizers or their sponsors ie not specific- just as those people who understand security matters would do). Oh by the way, in another thread you added that this fathom 'list' of yours was on the desk of the president and that he was not doing anything about it cos he was BH himself. Can you see the train of thought and why you had to distort and misinterpret that quote to make your dubious point. This is what a propagandist (or one who engage in propaganda) does; and you were obviously not very smart about it .

To think that you have been been using this as argument many times about GEJ been part of BH cos he has their 'list' says a lot.
Again, it is easier to wake up a man who is asleep than a man who is pretending to be asleep. So, Demdem, dont waste your time on this slowpoke - he knows what is doing and of course the truth. The president said he has strong evidence on the IDENTITY of the people behind the attacks - it should follow then that the government now knows the people behind the attacks. Does it make any sense for the president of a country to announce to the whole world he now knows the identity of the people bombing the country without actually pinning the identity down to individuals and groups?

Anyway, my concern is not the PDP but the current attempt to bring the name of Buhari into this political experiment of PDP - it will fail and only those from Amadioha kingdom will belief this.

PoliticsMo Ibrahim Governance Report On Jonathan’s Nigeria by Wadeoye(op): 8:34pm On Nov 02, 2012
Mo Ibrahim Governance Report On Jonathan’s Nigeria

A fortnight ago, the Mo Ibrahim Foundation released its governance report for 2012. The foundation was established by Dr Mohamed “MO” Ibrahim in 2006. Mo Ibrahim, who was born in Sudan but now settled in Britain, is the billionaire entrepreneur who founded the telecommunications giant Celtel. By the time he sold it in 2005 for $3.4 billion, Celte...l had over 24 million mobile phone subscribers in 14 African countries. In 2006, he established the Mo Ibrahim Foundation to encourage good governance in Africa. He also created the Mo Ibrahim Governance Index to evaluate African nations’ performance.

In 2007, he established the Mo Ibrahim Prize for Achievement in African Leadership which awards a $5 million initial payment and a $200,000 annual payment for life to African presidents who deliver security, health, education and economic development to their nations. In 2007, the prize was awarded to President Joaquim Chissano of Mozambique; in 2008 to President Festus Mogae of Botswana. No African president qualified for the award in 2009 and 2010. In 2011, it was won by President Pedro Pires of Cape Verde. No African president performed well enough to earn it this year. The Mo Ibrahim Foundation also publishes the Ibrahim Index of African Governance ranking the performance of all 53 African countries. This year, both Sudan and Southern Sudan were not evaluated for lack of sufficient data.

This year, the best performing country by the index is Mauritius. And the top best 10, apart from Mauritius, are Cape Verde, Botswana, Seychelles, South Africa, Namibia, Ghana, Tunisia, Lesotho and Tanzania in that order. For the first time since this governance assessment started, Nigeria is graded among the worst 10 governed nations of Africa. This should hardly surprise us, except that we have not heard any abusive condemnations of the Mo Ibrahim Foundation from Jonathan’s verbose aides.

Nigeria shares this infamy of being among the worst 10 with Equitorial Guinea, one of the most corrupt countries in the world; Guinea Bissau, which is technically a failed state; Cote d’ Ivoire; Zimbabwe where Robert Mugabe still looms large; Central African Republic; Eritrea; Chad; Democratic Republic of Congo, another failed state perpetually at war; and, of course, Somalia, which has been taken over by thugs, terrorists and pirates. Jonathan’s Nigeria is clearly in good company.

Many of us have had cause to declare that, even by Nigeria’s very poor governance standards, the Jonathan government stands alone and apart. Our current problem is monumental corruption which robs vital sectors of funding, and also incompetence in governance. “Incompetence” and “clueless” are words that have been freely associated with the Nigerian president all over the world. Borno and Yobe states are the headquarters of Boko Haram operatives and Yobe, especially, is a completely failed state. The Yobe governor doesn’t even live in the state anymore.

The situation in Yobe is worse than the situation in Somalia. Yet, the president has not visited there – not even once. When asked recently, the president said the Maiduguri Airport was not functioning, but every Nigerian knew that was a presidential lie. I have never seen a commander-in-chief so afraid of felons like our president. Because Jonathan has refused to go there, it should not be any surprise that many people including Boko Haram chieftains now believe that the president has ceded those two states to Boko Haram, just like we have al-Shabaab-controlled areas of Somalia.

It is the type of corruption that allows as much as N2.6 trillion to be stolen from a single subhead in a single year that has deprived the nation of funds to tackle the insecurity in the country. As I have always averred on this page, security is the first and basic responsibility of every government. And if any government fails in this index, it will fail in all the other indices. It is also corruption that has prevented the country from making any meaningful progress in education, provision of healthcare services, development of infrastructure as well as all aspects of human and material development.

I hope that this year’s very damning Mo Ibrahim report on Nigeria would be very useful in serving as a wake-up call to President Jonathan to know that it’s not only Nigerians that are watching him. The world is also watching and the verdict on him so far is very, very bad.

EARSHOT

Between Oshiomhole And Amnesty International

Governor Adams Oshiomhole has come under criticism from Amnesty International because he granted a go-ahead for the execution of two persons sentenced to death for murder by the courts. Those who criticise the governor have not said that the convicts are not murderers. No, they are only against the death sentence as a policy.

I believe one of the problems of this country is that we have not been convicting and executing murderers enough in this country. Death sentences and executions are not punishment for the convicted. They are deterrents to those with murderous instincts who are still alive. And that is a very good and valid reason to continue with the death sentence as a policy. A major reason why there is so much anarchy and disorder in this country is that crimes are not punished. That is statecraft 101. And anyone who is ready to kill should also be ready to die. We only need to look around the world and compare those countries with strong rule of law which execute murderers with those who think they are “too civilised” to execute murderers and see which ones are more liveable. I advocate the death sentence not only for murderers but also for kidnappers and arms traffickers who are the facilitators of these crimes.

Until we start executing all those who kill either in the name of armed robbery, religion, kidnapping or terrorism, bad people would continue to kill innocent people just for the fun of it. Until there are grave consequences for murder, Nigeria will continue to be one of the most dangerous countries to live in. If the rule of law has been followed and the convicts have exhausted their appeals, Governor Oshiomhole should ensure that the death sentences are carried out as soon as possible.Like · · Share · Yesterday

taharqa: This is you deliberately trying to select and distort info. 1st, you left out Sheriff and d fact that both Zanna and Ndume were ANPP membas till last yr (sheriff is still ANPP) cos you know it would damage yr narrative. There's no doubt that there are PDP membas who support BH activities, just as there are CPC, ANPP and odas nonpartisan individuals But they all have one thing in common- they are northerners who want Power. This support is mostly indirect by doing nothing to stop it, which in a case of insurgency is as good as supporting dem directly- all of which have now ran off their hands cos just like d Tuaregs in Mali was to undastad, core terroists do not share any purpose or power with oda people..... By d way, d President meant that there were BH sympathizers in all levels of govt (which shld be a no-brainer), not that they were BH membas in his govt as though he appointd them- you guys shld stop this propaganda on dis point cos it is disgusting and very unhelpful.
