TravelRe: Nigerians Travelling And Living In Malaysia. How Do U Feel? by wanaj0: 8:49am On Jul 03, 2011
Ms. Potato:
Dear Nigerians living in Malaysia, how do u feel about the country?

Dont lie and tell the truth and shame the devil. wink
It is all a function of what you are doing in Malaysia.

Malaysia is a lovely place. Lived in Miri Sarawak then moved to KL. Go to work in Labuan and KK regularly. Also get to go to JB to visit a yard. In Labuan I stay in Grand Dorsett and work from Asian Supply Base. In KK I stay in Le Meridien and Work from Wisma San Hin just by waterfront area. Loved KK because of the beaches.

All in all, a lovely place. People from East Malaysia are more friendly.

Enjoyed playing Golf there.

There is corruption in Malaysia but is hardly talked about. Right now the CM of Sarawak is facing serious heat because of corruption.

Good rivalry between Singapore and Malaysia though. Things are cheaper in Malaysia than Singapore.

Note, Malaysia is not a place to hustle for job. Remember as a BLACK person you stand out. Many Africans are there as Students with a good number in what is called 'visa' schools.

Malaysia is a Muslim country but except you are in the East Coast of the Peninsular, you are relatively safe from extremism.

Infrastructure in the West is better than the East. Flight cost is relatively cheap. Weather is cool.

Malaysia Ringgit is quite strong now. From RM1 to N36.00 in 2008 it is now like RM1 to N50.00 now. So things are more expensive in Malaysia in Naira terms.

For those who like to shop, KL is not bad for shopping. For lovers of nature, many places to go in KL. Loved the KL bird park. Labuan is a duty free area though very small island. Was told it was owned by the Sabah CM tongue

Any other thing you like to know?

TravelRe: Whats Your Take On Malaysia? by wanaj0: 7:00am On May 30, 2011
Firstly the cheap schools in Malaysia are Visa schools. You dont learn anything. You pay like 300k every year just to get student visa.

There is no work for immigrants in Malaysia. This is compounded because as a black man you are noticeable so nowhere to hide.

IF indeed he is thinking of schooling, there are other countries with better opportunities.

Malaysia is a GOOD country but not welcoming to immigrants especially blacks!

Malaysia is a country that thrives on racial discrimination even among Malaysians. So you can imagine your fate as a Black man (Nigerian for that matter)
TravelRe: I Neef Facts About Malaysia by wanaj0: 6:00am On May 30, 2011
Depend on what you are coming to do in Malaysia.

No work and it is not cheap. If you are a criminal or criminally minded then be ready to join the many Nigerians into various vices and crime in Malaysia.

Remember that you are black and you will easily STAND out.

Yes there is job for drug mules. Remember thought that it is DEATH PENALTY!

Sanusi is not a demon but he should not be made to look like a saint.

He was at UBA when exceptional item became the culture.

He was at FBN when they did the Seawolf deal and exceeded the single obligor limit. As CBN governor he gave them a waiver.

Whatever Oceanic and Inter were guilty of, Diamond and UBA were also guilty of teh same thing. There is something 'selective' in Lamido's actions.

That Wema bank was spared was because of unholy alliance between Sanusi and his deputy Lemo.

So in Sanusi, we have the good, the bad and the ugly.

As per minister of finance and minister of state being from Kano, that is pure rubbish.

TravelRe: Malaysia Visit Visa And Ticket by wanaj0: 12:21pm On Apr 13, 2011
Not sure if the question is directed at me but will try an answer.

In most civilised and regulated environment, there are procedures for foreigners to follow before they can start to work in a foreign country. For most places, you need a WORK PERMIT which is like a 'visa' that allows you to enter the country and work.

Most countries will ONLY grant that permit in extreme situations one of which is when there is no 'local' to do the job. This implies that you have some skill set that is not available in Malaysia. That is how some Nigerians get to work with Petronas and even lecture in their universities. That is the main LEGAL way to get into a foreign country and work. You apply for a job, you get offered the job and the employer processes the work permit for you. The employer will have to convince immigration that no 'local' was able to do the job. Ask yourself, if there is a national of the country to do the job why should they offer it to a foreigner?

In some countries, students are allowed to do some work. This is not applicable in Malaysia. So most Nigerians that came thinking they can work with their student visa are finding out the tough way.

Nigerians do odd jobs in other countries. In UK, US and other places where you have significant amount of blacks you will not stand out. So they can drive cabs etc. In Malaysia any black man will stand out! So it is difficult for a black man to do any odd jobs. You have Philippinos, Indonesians, Koreans, Thais, Japanese and some other Asians working in Malaysia based on the ASEAN treaty that they have. That does not cover Nigerians.

In summary, Malaysia will only give a foreigner job when there are no Malaysians to do the job! That is the way to tackle 'unemployment' in their own country.

So if you want to work in Malaysia, acquire the required skill set, apply for a job that require that skill set and if you are offered the job your employer will process the work permit for you.

naijaspeak:
I feel disturb to read in your article and some other section of nairaland that there is no job for ( foreigners including Nigerian) in Malaysia.

If I may ask what makes Malaysia not to have job for foreign worker? Is it that there is job in Malaysia but it is just their law or constitution that place a ban on  foreigner from working.

I know that most Nigerian that travel out of Nigeria visit foreign land for simply economic purposes.

So I feel that visiting Malaysia without gaining back the money you spend for that long trip is rather wasteful.  I think it is ideal that one visit a place with the aim of making money or doing business. where this are lacking malaysia. then the purpose of going to malaysia is rather defeated.

lets have your reply

wanaj0- You are just simply bitter, very defensive as well. Don’t worry you might have your luck to ride in a plane and visit other country soon. Just continue praying…

suxes2005- FYI, There are Nigerians here who even fail in English 1, even your so called “Government Scholars” from big Universities here and those ones who claims that they grew up in UK but was born in Nigeria. Lolz!
Bitter that what? That you are luring people into slavery so that you can make money? How does my bitterness affect the fact that you are out to deceive people tongue

What certificate will someone get from your school? When someone from English speaking country attend your shool what will you offer the person?

You can only deceive those who are desperate. Even IF they are desperate to come to Malaysia they must be stupid to think that a language school is the best option for them.

It's a pity to what end people like you go to deceive people just to make money.

So it is Malaysia Immigration that accredited your school to run a language school. And this school is so good that it is nor targeting the Malaysian population who hardly speak English but is targeting Nigerians who have English as their official language. Does it make sense to you?

Will you stop all these and go to bed woman. You don't even have a good grasp of the English language and you want to teach others.
Just saw that she said she operates an INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL. Not sure she knew what an International school is. One should ask her whether the school is running an American, British or Australian curriculum and which certificate will be awarded after the training. Would also like to know the educational institutions accrediting the certificates.

Apparently, they established a company (Thats what Bhd is all about) that they are using to ferry people and dump them in Malaysia.

How someone from an English speaking country will go to learn English in a non English speaking country!

Hope people will stop SELLING lies to others.
TravelRe: Malaysia Visit Visa And Ticket by wanaj0: 7:00am On Apr 10, 2011
You dont help people by encouraging illegality! How will a sincere Nigerian from an English Speaking country go and study English language IN Malaysia where English is not even their first language.

All you are trying to do is to get people to Malaysia with the promise of a'better' life only for them to become miserable later or take to crime.

If you need people to come and study English in your school, Nigerians should not be your target audience if your intention is genuine. Target and help people from non english speaking country.

As per your rants, I dont hate Malaysia because I have no reason to hate Malaysia. Malaysia is a lovely country with the good and bad side. If anything, I love the opportunity of playing golf there.

As per asking me to go out of my country, your ignorance is baffling. You dont know where I am or where I have travelled to. Be grateful that a Nigerian decide to marry you and gave you exposure to life beyond what you are use to.

AtlanticC:
wanaj0 - I was thinking why you are so against of Malaysia… Maybe you were here before and you were deported or the airport Immigration did not even allow you to enter Malaysia? Or maybe your visa was denied or your agent cheated you? Or maybe, you have dream of coming here but you cannot afford the visa and the plane ticket? That is why you’re so bitter. Don’t worry; if you do not like Malaysia….Malaysia also doesn’t like you…
AtlanticC:
If you are not interested to apply better come up with a sensible question. Try to go out of your country so you will be enlighten and not be ignorant. From what I know, we are helping a lot of YOUR FELLOW NIGERIANS HERE. We do not need to explain to you because you will never understand since you are not here and you do not have any intention of coming here. These posts are only for those people WHO CAN PAY and have INTEREST. It is not our business what they want to do here besides studying.

Another thing, there are even Nigerians here who doesn’t want to go home anymore; they are even planning to apply for “Malaysia my second home program”.
TravelRe: Malaysia Visit Visa And Ticket by wanaj0: 10:16am On Apr 09, 2011
So which language are they learning in your school? What value does that add to their life apart from getting a visa

What is a business visa? Are you talking about business visit visa?

So do the government of Malaysia feed them in Malaysia?

Most come to Malaysia and get trapped because they think travelling abroad is a bird of roses. Some sold their belongings to travel out and are regretting it hence they resort to crime.

If you use 'big' cars to measure success, there are many 'big' cars in Nigeria.

If you are not coming to school (genuine student), or you have a job waiting for you as an expat, Malaysia is not the place for you!

There are many POOR people also in Malaysia. Take it from someone who have worked through the length and breath of Malaysia! Money does not fall from trees in Malaysia or any part of the world for that matter.

AtlanticC:
Why don't you ask those thousands of Nigerian entering a Language Schools here in Malaysia? FYI, do not under estimate your fellow Nigerians, most of them that are here are not only studying, they are doing export business. Malaysia is near to China, they buy goods in China and send it to Nigeria. Not only China, in Malaysia it self, they purchase goods here and send it to your country. And I know most of them, who are rich people already in Nigeria.

Yes, living in Malaysia is not cheap compare in Nigeria. But you will see Nigerians here driving big cars and living in a nice condominiums. For those Nigerians who are doing crimes here, if your government can only feed and support them back in Naija, do you think they will choose to put their life in risk in other country?

We are telling those Nigerians who wants to study here, that Malaysian Government doesn't give jobs to foreigner unless there's a company who will sponsor them and their visa. Another thing, not all Nigerians here only possesing a visit or student pass, there are Nigerians here who have a business visa and they are also successful with their business, either they are married or not to a Malaysian Citizen.
TravelRe: Malaysia Visit Visa And Ticket by wanaj0: 12:28am On Apr 09, 2011
Why should any SERIOUS Nigerian go to a language school in Malaysia? To learn which language? What do they gain from your school apart from wasting money getting a student visa and wasting their time away.

People need to think of what they want to make out of their life instead of wasting money unnecessarily.

There are few jobs for foreigners in Malaysia. Most of the Nigerians are on student visa and they end up taking to crime since they cannot work. Living in Malaysia is also not that cheap so why should any one come to Malaysia to waste time and money when there is no job? Is it to attend a language school to learn English or Mandarin?

AtlanticC:
I thought you did your own research? From the name of the Institution, you will know that it is a Language school. And from the requirements, if you understand what you read, one of the requirements are high school/college academic transcripts. And we also mentioned that for foreign students to enter our school, we have a minimum age of 16 and up to the age of 35.

Anyway, if you’re not here you may not understand why Nigerians who’s staying here needs a school, like our school. Well, if you want to take your masters, PhD or maybe to be a full time student, you have to inquire to those big universities here in Malaysia, if you can afford to pay almost 2 million naira per semester, for your schooling, why not? It is still for your future. There are still Nigerians who’s also doing that, mostly they are Hausas. Or they are your government scholars, mostly from River State.

Greetings to all Nairalanders'!

Its fun being here, i enjoy all the discuss, its enlightening and educating truly.

This is my first posting here, and i am compelled to because i am an eye witness to the pain, humiliation, frustration and dehumanization our people go thru in the name of travelling and living abroad!

I work and live in Vietnam, legally of course, and the level of influx of illegal Nigerians, who have no business travelling abroad is annoying!

More painfull is the pathetic story they tell of how much they spent getting visa and coming here, with promises of Jobs and greener pastures that dont exist!

Because they were not prepared for the challenges of living abroad much less Asia, they end up sleeping outside and engaging in things that take our already muddled reputation as a Nigerians down the drain, so much so that if not for Business purposes, am almost ashamed telling people am from Nigeria!

I am Compilling names of Names of "AGENTS" and unscrupulous individuals in Nigeria who route people to Vietnam with 'promises' of Jobs, i intend to expose such ones soon!

The truth however, is that with the level continous rot, decadence and downward decay Nigeria is slopping into, i dont blame anyone getting out, but you only enjoy the conveniences when you are LEGAL.

Its not easy anywhere in the world.

All the best Guys!
Vietnam is so good that they are exporting prostitutes to other Asian countries. Na wa for my people o.

Interesting. Know quite a number of people working there. One just left Indonesia moved his family to Canada to work in Angola. Yes the oil industry is booming but the place is just an expensive jungle!

Nigerians are not loved there because of our 'character'

The question to ask is which visa is difficult? You cant get a tourist visa to a war torn country! You can get a business visit visa if you have a legitimate business to transact there.

TravelRe: Before You Pay That Malaysia Agent Read This by wanaj0: 4:32am On Feb 19, 2011
Just to add, the current appreciation of the RM has made importing things from Malaysia to Nigeria unprofitable. In 2008, 1RM was like N36.00 now 1RM is like N50.00.

So before they tell you of some business opportunity factor that in.

Also there are many 'fake' things in Malaysia. They call them LOCAL ORIGINALS. Most are from China. So beware.
TravelRe: Before You Pay That Malaysia Agent Read This by wanaj0: 4:28am On Feb 19, 2011
I think things have to be put in perspective. Nigerians do work in Malaysia. Some are lecturing while a number are in the oil and gas industry. They are mainly in Sarawak, Penang and Kuala Lumpur. Some stay in highbrow areas like Mont Kiara, KLCC, Jalan Ampang etc.

The difference is that those are professionals. They are considered to have skills that is in 'short' supply in Malaysia. They have work permit that allows them to work.

Anyone that employs illegal immigrant in Malaysia is playing with fire. Worse of with blacks because you will STAND out.

The other issue is that pay is relatively POOR in Malaysia except you are treated as an EXPATRIATE staff. Most fresh graduates earn between (RM1,500 and RM 2,500). Those fortunate among them can get a job of like RM3,500.

Most Nigerians came in as a tourist or with student visa. That does not allow you to WORK! And no company will risk employing you! Even for housemaids in Malaysia (mainly Indonesians and Philipinos) they are regulated. They get permit to work.

And to work for Chinese company without speaking Mandarin is almost impossible. Even Chinese people dont like to employ non Chinese speaking Malaysians how much more employing a black man. Note that the Chinese control the economic power while the Malays control political power.

So what do Nigerians do in Malaysia. Most are into crime. Some are trying to do business like car rentals BUT not as lucrative as people think. So people should be careful. Remember flight ticket to Malaysia is not cheap!

Are you going there for business? PTA should do. Better still, get someone there to invite you and that he will be RESPONSIBLE for your stay. It is not always that you need to have a PTA.

If you are coming as a tourist, I think it use to be $2k for 14days. Visas from Naija are now for 14days max.
TravelRe: Malaysia Visit Visa And Ticket by wanaj0: 12:18am On Feb 19, 2011
Malaysian Visa is N1k.

Ticket via Emirates is like N200k. Egypt Air is cheaper but a bit stressful. Qatar is a bit less then Emirates but luggage limit is there.

You will only be granted 14days visa. Extension is not likely going to be granted.

Welcome to Malaysia.

Saying there is no JOB in Malaysia may not be the whole truth.

If you have a skill that is required in Malaysia you can be employed in Malaysia. However, you need to get the job and and the company will process your work permit before setting your foot in Malaysia. A number of Nigerians work in Petronas for example.

Dont come with the aim of planning to hustle and get job later. It will NOT happen.
TravelRe: The Uk Is A Trap. Don't Come Here To Study: by wanaj0: 5:20pm On Jan 09, 2011
So true. One had to get money paid to her account in Nigeria for about 2 months just to meet the requirement.

Immigration lawyers must always make money.

How many people in UK make up to 50,000 GBP a year?

debosky:
In the line of giving educating information, I'll give my take on the new 'restrictions'.

Based on my understanding of the policy document, you only need to earn £40,000 if you're making an 'initial' application for Tier 1 General separate from post study, or if you started your post study work after April 2010.

If you need to extend your leave and you started your post study before April 2010, you only need to have earned above £26,000 in the qualifying period.

Just to clarify - these figures are based on an individual completing a masters degree and being under 30.

Other alternatives such as gaining a phd exist, or taking an MBA.

Even with the 'stringent' requirements, I have heard of Nigerians claiming income from their bogus 'companies' in Nigeria, just to make up the £40,000 mark. Some claim to be directors of companies and so on and get someone to pay in money into accounts, either here in Nigeria or in the UK to give the appearance that the incomes are earned.

Needless to say, £40,000 isn't that much of a limiting constraint given Nigerians' ability to find innovative solutions.

Oh dear. Inferiority complex? With who and to who?

You just throw insults around anyhow! Interesting.

raintree:
Did I say that Nigerians are dying of hunger? I said many are poor. Poor people can still survive with little they have. What is wrong with you?
I came from a poor family and life was hard when I was young. Did I die of hunger? Geez,

Never said Malaysia is a paradise. Never said Nigeria is hopeless. You are the one with the inferiority complex!

I see potential in my cyber friend. I see him having a good life and achieving his dream. I see him becoming the President of Nigeria. If I'm such a hypocrite, I won't waste any time corresponding with him for the past 2 years.

Yes, I can't stand the abuses suffered by your countrymen under the previous and current rulers in Naija.

Damn you, you can't take a little criticism and factual statements. I pity those who work with you!
TravelRe: Any Job In Malaysia by wanaj0: 8:48am On Dec 06, 2010
Defensive? Nigeria is not a paradise. We have challenges which no one will deny. Pity you cant see anything good in Nigeria. I can understand why.

I've being to Malaysia and I have seen the good, the bad and the ugly. I will not fault you if you say that Malaysia is a paradise. That is your opinion and you are entitled to it.

Yes never being crazy about living outside Nigeria! You dont have to believe me. I am her to expand the frontiers in the profession that I am in. Unfortunately, it is a NEW area in Malaysia and thats why I am here. It will not be for LONG.

I am in the stock market because th bible teaches about preparing for the future. So if that to you is lack of contentment so be it.

Well, I have Malaysian friends working in Nigeria. None was killed, robbed or armed. That should tell you something. None is even planning to leave Nigeria. You dont have to believe it but that is the truth. Can mention names but it is of no use.

Yes you believe everyone is dying in Nigeria of hunger etc. Heard such racist comment many times of how blacks live on top of trees. It is not strange. To each its own.

While you may see the cup as half empty, I am seeing it as half full.
TravelRe: Any Job In Malaysia by wanaj0: 3:29am On Dec 06, 2010
Well, when you are head hunted for a job, many things come into consideration. Sometimes the challenge of working in a new frontier is what sets you apart.

Humility? You are preaching to the choir here. There is nothing that we have not received from God. So nothing to be proud of BUT will always state the obvious. The race actually is not for the swift or for the strong. I come from a humble background and I thank God for all that I have and I am today. I envy no one. I am contented.

As per situation in Nigeria, there are many exaggerations. Unfortunately, many have bought the lies that once you are outside, you pick money on the streets.

Yes there are unemployment in Nigeria BUT there are also many opportunities. Unfortunately, people are not willing to learn to crawl before they walk. The thinking is that there is a golden fleece out there. Never being crazy about living outside Nigeria. I see many opportunities and it is evident in my posts on stocks. When we eschew GREED we will have a comfortable life irrespective of the infrastructural challenge that we face. The major difference between Nigeria and Malaysia to me is the infrastructures. In terms of corruption sorry, it is every where. Petronas will mandate who to give a contract to. Was shocked at policemen collecting bribe here. As per crime, so many here but it is under reported. Well, thats the way to market the place as a 'tourist' destination.

As per poverty, it is all over. Lived in East Malaysia and I know what I am talking about. Malaysia makes most of the oil and gas from East Malaysia but they have nothing to show for it. The roads are bad. The people are poor (though contented), there is 'anger' all over because of the corrupt elites. CM of Sarawak decides when and when not to hold election. So you can see we are face with same challenges. Little population in Malaysia is an advantage and the fact that there is good infrastructures shows the BIG difference.

Not sure your definition of poor and the impression that others might have given you about Nigeria, need to know that 'poor' is relative. Most Nigerians are not dying of hunger. We are not in debt as a nation. We are not getting food aids.

Yes many are frustrated and want to leave Nigeria. However, those who have left and experience other cultures are returning because they can see that all that glitters is not gold.

I am not the cream in Nigeria. I have friends and colleagues doing wonderful things all over the world. At a very early stage, we decided to acquire skills that will stand us in good stead later on in life. I was born and bred in Nigeria. Schooled in Nigeria. So I owe everything to God and to Nigeria. PROUDLY NIGERIAN.

As per your friend, despise not the days of little beginning. I have a friend who finished his first degree and got no job. He went on to do his masters. In between he was selling Christian books and into fumigation business (low cost business). After finishing his masters, he got a jobwith one of the oil companies. He was head hunted and now working in the US. You see, the STEPS of a good man are ordered by GOD and GOD ponder over his ways. Tell your friend to be faithful in that small thing that he is doing.

Just reading the BN address. Interesting. But thought the constitution states that only a Malay can be prime minister, or is it not true?

raintree:

Begging ke? Only a desperate man is foolish enough to accept a job which he is reluctant to accept.

Discrimination has and will become more rampant in days to come here. Who started all this, BN. Their call for "ketuanan melayu" and malay rights are getting louder and louder each day. PKR is messed up and BN is outright hypocrite. DAP is not in my area and I don't buy PAS call for syariah law. Not much choice to choose lah! PKR got my vote previously cos I want them there for check and balances. I also want the opposition to make some noise in the parliament to shut the mouth of the overloaded and chair-warming BN representatives there.

See, the people of Malaysia had done the unthinkable in the last general election. We finally woke BN up and sent chill over their bloated bodies to tell them they are not over the top and their position is not guaranteed. That's why the 1Malaysia concept was started by PM Najib as a programme to unite all Malaysians regardless of race to have one identity. Still, the Malays like deputy PM Muhyiddin consider themselves Malay first before Malaysian. Haba! At least from this painful lesson, all the component parties of BN are on the alert now to work harder for the people not just their own kind and also to listen and help all in needs.

Mind you, the indigenous bumis are in no way 2nd class except for certain privileges which they are entitled to like the Malays. Most of them are still poor in East Malaysia. Indians in Malaysia are almost voiceless now. The Chinese know if they lose their dominance in the economy, they will join the Indians and become hay among the wheats. They call us "Pendatang" so we must work harder to control the wealth and not let it slip from our grip.

Well, I hope one day (hopefully next year) the people of Nigeria will send the same message to PDP with their vote.

J0, pride comes before a fall. You are more blessed because you are the cream of the crop among many poors in your country. You know it. Many of your juniors are without job at home, getting frustrated and finding whatever means to get out before insanity creeps in. You commented many times about low pay in Malaysia especially the entry level banker. My cyber friend was fresh out of the youth corp hunting for job when we started corresponding. He is as brainy like you, graduated from one of the best U in Nigeria but was so desperate in his search for job that he was willing to take any job offered to him. With no car and can't ride a bike lol, he'd track and hop on buses to go for whatever potential job vacancies around Abuja. In the end, he found a desk job but the pay is about half of what our entry level banker gets. It's a humble beginning but he's taking it in his stride for better things to come. I'm so proud of him!

Why is it not good for people?

If you have a job, get a work permit it is a good place to live. There are racist (hey they discriminate among themselves!) Malays are first class citizens next are the Bumis then the Chinese and last the Indians. Christians among them are also discriminated against. So you may be discriminated. But that should not be an hinderance. Quite a number of Nigerians are working here. Some as lecturers and others in the oil and gas industry mainly.

If you you intend to come and SCHOOL, it is not bad but definitely not my first choice. Malaysians themselves would rather school outside of Malaysia!

If you are a genuine tourist, not a bad place also though I am not to enamoured by that.

However, if you plan to be an illegal immigrant and plan to hustle, except you have criminal tendencies, then Malaysia is not the place for you. No job for illegals especially for blacks because you stand out. So expect to come to Malaysia on student or tourist visa and expect to work!

Thats my two pence.
