you people are very funny, who cares about the ranking?this is annoying, who cares if we are number 1 or 4? the point is that the nation is corrupt .we should be talking corruption eradication in stead of corruption ranking, so sadSo funny. |
O.k we have to remember that Africans regard men more than they do women and slavery took men in the begining. |
What exaclty is the use of pressing people to declare their assesst. All the officials that we have realized embezled money do we take their assesst or are we just satisfied with knowing they embezzled. |
We should be the best at everything we do. |
Who the hell is Fela. |
Also slavery was not the only trading even though it's the only one that is pronounced the most, thwere was the trade of ivory and many other minerals so we should not be blinded by what we were fed, Ngugi Wa Thiongo summerized it in an amaizing way in his introduction to the essay "Decolonizing the Mind: The Politics of Language in African Literature." |
Imagine the shock the suicide bomber will receieve when he is denied access to heaven for being a mass murderer.Even the bigger shock is that he won't get 70 |
Good luck in your endevours. |
Before we repeat the embedded lines that we sold our brothers and sister, first of all the Arabs started the slave trade by trading black Africans. Also no one was trading their own brothers but people they captured in wars, just like the Romans did not think the Brits were their bothers when pillaging. No one sold their brothers, kinsmen but they sold people they considered enemies. I think when we recognize that just like we have recognized that black is different from white is when we will move forward. Even though we want to maintain we are brothers and sisters and sing cumbaia we are not, Nigeria was not one country but people of different tribes who had nothing in common but skin color. Slavery of the many stories for why it started another one was that the Americans tried to enslave American Indians but they told them there were black people that could go a whole day without eating and bam they enslaved us. Also they did not only trade humans with Africans, the attraction to South Africa was not merely for slave trade, not even it was for diamonds. The white man will for anything the shines and sparkles and will find arguments to conceal. Wasn't another argument that blacks were lazy. How can we be lazy when we are the one doing their work and not eating for a whole day. Beat that!! |
WOW thanks for being the brave one to answer me first. I understand all tha about food being the way to a mans heart. I was really shocked by his behavior its not like I had the oversight on purpose. It was a mistake. perhaps I should just let it go and move on, I am just trying to understand. He seems to have an outrageous jealous streak as well. Please don't misunderstand, I love and respect my husband, I just don't always understand him, and desperately want to. He will cook for himself if he craves something that I don't know how to cook, I would say 96% of the time I cook for him. perhaps there are some others who would be willing just to give some serious advice to help me out, if not about the food issue then about some other topic that strikes as important for a non Nigerian Wife to know.Your welcome, even though I don't know you I think he loves you as much as you love him except some Nigerian men were grown to show affection not by hugging and kissing and repeating it but by working and I guess marrying. The fact that he married you to him is one of the main assurances of love, I guess you should be happy for his jealous streaks. His being jealous shows that he loves you and realizes your good enough to be appreciated by other men, however if his jealousy becomes physical abuse then that is not typical and you need to get other help. Otherwise check the link uspry 1 gave you, she is really good at finding links of previously covered topics. Follow the yellow brick road as directed by uspry 1. |
They traded with China and Japan. The West Indies was "discovered" as Comebucus was looking for another trading route to India that would be faster. |
There was something we have that the West needed and still needs so trading would have still been possible without colonization. Also it is engineered into the humans to explore and I feel that through exploration Africa would have been able to learn certain European things without us being trarted like brutes. |

O.k my bit which might not be worth much as I am not married but have Nigerian parents is this. In general food is the way to a man's heart is what I have heard but yes he is acting as a spoiled child. Some Nigerian men think it is degrading for them to cook even if they can, it is written in the DNA code that women should do the cooking so, Your situation which is typical is funny especially putting of the empty dish back into the fridge and complaining. The only cultural misunderstaning is the fact that your are not used to such behavior apart from that many Nigerian men behave that way. I call it role reversal, many other cultures pamper their women, the Nigerian culture is the pampering of the men. |
Ethiopia was not totally free European colonization of Africa, remember their suffering under Italy?Yes they revolted against the Italians and at some point defeated and because the Italians couldn't take it, so they came back with Mustard gas as their last resort. Like you said the Ethopians suffered, they did not fall for the European Technology they might have been crushed by it in the end but they did not fall for it. The very fact that you make that all about colonization just blows whatever you have to the NO MAKE SENSE zone. Are you seriously telling me that China and where it is at today is because it was not colonized according to you?? No comment from me!!No am not saying that China is where it is now becuase it was not colonized what I am saying is that colonization was not necessary for success e.g China and Japan and Ethopia. For all those that say that colonization was good or neccessary for Africa these aforementioned countries show that the minority can survive without being rules at some point by the white man. I don't get what is in the NO MAKE SENSE zoneso please clarify. |
Ethopia was not colonized, we know that right. It is sad that people actually believe that if not for colonization we might not have doctors, lawyers. Impossible, it is incredibly difficult for me to beleive that Africa would be stuck in the hunting and gathering mode if not for colonization. Also we had judicial system precolonization and medical system herbalists before colonizaton. Herbalism which is considered by some as barbaric is now being considered as a better from of medicine that the stupid chemicals we suffocate ourselves with. Homeopathy was practiced pre colonization and is now gaining attention. So I don't think we are as backwards as we have been effectively been inoculated to believe. |
Of all places Estonia. I think the people in that country are in the same predica |
I don't think colonization was necessary or good for Africa. I think people should stay in their country and not try to enslave others under the falsehood of; christianizing pagans, bringing justice and equality and what not other nonsense. |
Kwanzaa is similar to Black Histroy month in that it was started in the 60s I think by someone that thought blacks should not celebrate white people's holiday. However it's only recognized in the U.S, I lived in Jamaica and I'd never heard of it till I came here. |
Move out to china and I bet you will run back before the end of 2008 thanking your God for Nigeria and even Colonialism , LMAO!!!!!You easily forgot that I mentioned Japan which is a first world country that was not colonized. If I moved to Japan I feel I will be content, all the Nigerians in China are not complaining. Nigeria is one of the countries on America's no go zone but Chinese is study at my school and there is problem with going abroad to study in China. So I think China and their uncolonized self is alot better to America than Nigeria and their colonized self. |
I say everyone should boycott NEPA/PHCN . WHat's the use of having electricity that is on less often than moonlight. |
It's sad who islamists kill people in droves for absolutely no reason. |
China, Japan were not colonized however they still have health, education and what not. |
Do alot better in Organic Chemistry, prayerfully an A (maybe going over my heasd with that one) |
What are these many evils of colonialism of which you speak of?? I mean let us compare notes please. The many evils include the sucessful stripping of culutral identity, the constant enforcement of the inferiority complex on the colonized "Self and Other complex". The looting of resources, the imparting of greed, 1.) In the inferority complex which caused the Rwandan genocide, colonization forced one group to be surpressed by the other because the "inferior" group was darker and did not have as straight a nose as the other tribe. 2.) The imagined nations between people that were only similar in skin color. Nigeria was not a big country various tribes were forced together thus the reason there is still unrest. There are other places where Hausa, Yoruba are spoken they did not have to force different tribes together. 3.) The quest for ivory and other resources "greed" was the main reason for colonization, read Heart of Darkness." 4.) Colonization has made us believe that many African practice is barbaric however, many of the barbaric cultures are now being adopted as cosmopolitan and art. I wanted to start a new thread to an African government official that had the Merkel puts Zimbabwe in spotlight over rights abuses 08 Dec 2007 20:08:00 GMT |
Your the first person I've ever dated so I feel I need to explore. |
I'd like to make it clear that my answer to the thread is YES and NO. The bottom line is to put the pros of Colonialism to GOOD use (we are yet to do that after how long, 47 years?)I think the evils of colonialism have outdone the measly good. Maybe the greed they impacted is the reason the government officials are always all for themselves. |
grafikdon, how was Achebe able to disprove the beliefs upheld by some Non Africans that our certain parts of Africa, like Nigeria were governed by gods of sticks and woods? His book, Things Fall Apart, only underscores the belief. If I was a foreigner and read that book, honestly, one would realize that the advent of the Europeans which ushered in Christianity was a BLESSING to us!.I think as I read the aforementioned book this past semester and discussed it in a post colonial class that the reason Achebe showed the African aspect was to allow us to see that he was no merely pointing the finger on the whites. He showed that the reason Christianity was a blessing was because some practices were almost senseless like the abandonment of twins. However if you notice he also shows how the whites that were not as understanding in handing out justice. In the dispute for land the whites gave land to whoever paid the most money. In the end Achebe showed that the reason for colonization was merely greed of ivory and the resources of others. He did not want to show it by pointing finger on one person, the colonists. Notice how the Abame tribe was massacred for killing ONE white person. |
