not all men are the same anyways. most of the active men on this thread are one kind:

they're the misogynists wannabe. davidylan especially.

and there are other kinds. the sweet ones, like this guy cheesy

A woman who can't cook has a 99% value to me,
@Topic: If your wife doesn't cook for you and only cook for herself and kids, it's a sign that she probably doesn't love you or she wants you to be more responsible. do your part and she'll do hers. it's 50: 50.

grin grin You should refuse to cook and insist on 50:50.
she just told us that he works longer hours. that balances it out.

ofe mmanu is not acceptable I was kidding and neither is omo anything.
We should learn to call people by their names.
It is rude to call anyone child of anything when they have a name.
oh yeah definitely. that's rude if you know the person's name and even if you don't, one can ask.

i will only use "omo" when i'm describing someone or a group.

On topic jare, one american woman just proudly confessed to being a genius at jollof rice and egusi soup
If you're nigerian, that's not something to be proud of.

Jollof rice is pretty hard though, i find myself burning it a lot.
now, you need to go and learn to cook.
CultureRe: Why Do Yorubas Classify Every Other Nigerians As Igbo by WesleyanA(f): 2:10am On Jun 13, 2007
lmao. i don't cook oily soup (yeah, well, maybe sometimes)

but if "the people that cook oily soup" is acceptable, how is "child/descendant of igbo" not acceptable?

so, what does it mean? grin

i'll take it that it doesn't translate to "yoruba person." it means something else.

babyosisi:
wes, what's your stand on this topic?
a woman who can't cook has values.
any woman that's not amputated, or has disability with her hands, can cook. It's just up to her if she likes to cook or not.

I personally know that i don't like to cook. It's fun only when i have nothing else to do. a lot of other things interest me more than cooking.

This is a new dimension to the expand the debate beyond its original context philosophy. This is not about women who can't cook well but women who can't cook at all.The woman we have spent 9 pages discussing(you must have missed it) cannot cook for her kids so there will be nothing for them to taste.
you mean a woman with amputated arms?
you mean if all the fast food stores are closed (lol) and she's locked up in the kitchen for 2 weeks, she won't be able to cook to save her life?
even the most clueless person in the world can put two things together in the kitchen to prepare something, with cookbooks and all.

I think that both males and females should learn cooking. but then this depends on the situation/ environment and all the other factors (gender roles and whatnot)
I have my own ideals though and i'm just stating them.

11 pages. awesome. lol

babyosisi:
my sister,I am not ashamed to say that I buy the foods from the store, cook and clean daily.
I even make meat pies and moi moi.
My man can cook too but I don't demand we share cooking 50/50 because I'm now in America.
He works a whole lot longer hours than I do and sometimes he's home before me but I don't expect him to run in and start making semo for me when I arrive.

If I called him to put rice to boil while I'm driving home or cut up the meat for me while I'm on the way,he will not hesitate.
Like I-man says, the man brings home the bacon,it's only fair that I know how to cook it.

bring in my own smaller bacon too
cool.

FamilyRe: What Is The Value Of A Woman Who Can't Cook? by WesleyanA(f): 6:35am On Jun 12, 2007
your username says it all. grin

i wish you the cook of your dreams. a wife to make your belly happier than obasanjo's or baba ajascos.

j/k.

What would be the value of having a man, who is romantic, sweet, hardworking, honest, good looking, humble, intelligent, nice, good sense of humor and all that good stuff PLUS HE CAN COOKhuh
Same it is with women, a woman that can cook def. adds MORE value to the whole package.
now you're talking. lol
i think everyone should learn to cook. period. male or female. grin right?

they are focused on their aim and will not be dancing on video for Koinange to be famous for,
this was the most annoying part 'cause it reminded me of an article i read about western reporters going to africa and fabricating racist reports with something similar to the lines of "savages doing ritual dances in the jungles"

i don't know but i found it disturbing.

it reminded me of this exactly ---->

the line "let's go into the heart of darkness" made it worse.

lol you're so right. yorubas love name calling. it's like a second language.
it most annoying when some mothers start cursing their kids out loud.

i thought "ara oke" meant "uptown" undecided I'm from osun.

i don't find anything wrong with "omo ***" unless you know the person's name or use a ugly tone. or am i wrong? huh

Donzman:
We just call Edos/Urhobos and co. Bendel or Delta/Edo for the younger generation, no Igbo person I know call them Yorubas. We just call them Delta/Edo/Bendel!
i agree with you.
but when i was younger . the place i grew up was mostly just yoruba and some igbos so we just always assumed that everybody was either yoruba or igbo. the edo people were usually taken for yoruba. I'm speaking for where i lived and not everyone else.
i was surprised to find out later on that there were hausas, edos, and that calabar people didn't consider themselves igbo.
diversity and being able to see different things can clear up ignorant minds sometimes. lol
CultureRe: Why Do Yorubas Classify Every Other Nigerians As Igbo by WesleyanA(f): 5:41am On Jun 12, 2007
no. i mean "yoruba person"

ex. "she is a yoruba" rather than "she is a yoruba person"
how do you say the "person" in igbo language.
FashionRe: Dry, Coarse Hair: Help by WesleyanA(f): 5:39am On Jun 12, 2007
go in the ethnic section of the stores. you'll find brands made especially for your hair type. the selection is few but you'll find some.
i use queen helene's deep conditioners but different stuff work for different people.

also, you can also get a hair lotion/ moisturizer and use it everyday on your hair. i use sulphur8 moisturizing hair lotion but you can try whatever suits you.

goodluck.

don't wash your hair with shampoos that contain alcohol in the ingredients list. it'll wash your hair off all it's natural oils and moisture.

babyosisi:
and who uses those terms? or are you recapitulating things you've read on nairaland.
Igbos do not call edo people yoruba,we may not narrow them down to itsekiri and urhobo which is delta,my grandfathers and fathers generation called them midwestern not Yoruba.
omo yoruba is not a term an average Igbo man would use neither have I heard omo oduduwa except here on nairaland by you.

omo ibo may mean child of ibo just like nigger only describes a negro.
how do you say midwestern in igbo?

wow!!! at your last comment. embarassed embarassed

as far as i'm concerned,
"omo oyinbo" -- white people / american child
"omo ibadan" -- ibadan person
"omo eko" -- lagos person/ lagos child

i don't see how there's a negative meaning in this.

"omo" is a yoruba word for "child or descendant"
"omo oduduwa" means descendant of oduduwa. you can do a google search.
also do a google search on "omo yoruba" you'll find tons of results. mostly ethnic societies on whatever place the people descend from.

"omo" just means "person". trust me, it's not derogatory. maybe the tone the person use might be. but the word def. isn't

how do you say "yoruba person" in igbo?

"omo odudua, " "omo nna" or "omo yoruba" ? are tribalistic too, i guess?
"omo igbo" simply means "igbo person" or in literal terms "child of igbo"

didn't know you were offended by it. why is this?

So many people call Itskeris and the Edo people "Yorubas" so whatever.
I'm not going to lie but many edos that i knew in Nigeria were called/ assumed to be yoruba by almost everyone.
