Have you been to Canada before? If not, what makes you think life is easier in Canada? Do you have the resources to visit Canada first? If you do, I'd suggest you do that. I know it could be expensive but it's surely worth it. At least, you'd be sure you are not repeating the same mistake of moving to a new country without sufficient information on how to settle in. I know you mentioned "critical reviews" which suggests you've done your homework and you've considered the necessary factors, I'd just like to add that the process of settling in in most of these western countries is pretty much alike. Although Canada is considered more immigrant friendly, you'd probably face similar road blocks you face in the UK there. Just keep that in mind. Best of luck! |
gnykelly:When I said the company's isn't fully American, I meant it terms of ownership. The context is clear as we were discussing who might have taken the decision to pay the ransom. This decision can only be taken by the owners (who aren't fully Americans) and not the government of the nation in which the company is registered. Even if it fully owned by Americans, it is still a private organization and it's ridiculous for anyone to insinuate the American government paid the ransom just because an American organization did. |
Cousin9999:Of course the FBI and co got involved. But regardless of any security outfit that got involved, the decision to pay the ransom can only be taken by the shareholders of the organization (and in this case, they are from 5 different countries). The government wouldn't stand on thier way. They are the ones that made the payment not the American government. I get your logic but I'm only trying to set the record straight for those claiming the government paid the ransom. |
ntyce:I don't know. I only corrected those associating this ransom payment with the US government. |
BigDawsNet:I never knew "The White House" was a general slang. I thought you guys in Nigeria say "Aso Rock". Anyway, like I said, the government can't speak for the company since it's a privately owned company. So it's not about White House secrets. |
Governors: Local government chairmen are the ones running Nigeria, the Governor is just one person in the government house. |
southpole:I never mentioned religion when I observed the poor kid. You're the one bringing in religion and surprisingly, the same you are asking me to condemn violence irrespective of religion. Lol... you guys on Nairaland are just funny. |
Did y'all see that kid? |
Lol... the dangers of a single story. The person above has already been bought over. People will always stand with the seemingly weaker party. I think the prof in Money Heist called it "Operation Cameroon". |
You're probably reading a lot of crap from people who have failed in their own relationships here on NL. I'd suggest you give yourself the opportunity to live your own life and build your own experiences. Step out of your comfort zone, experience it all: the good, the bad and the ugly. Don't be afraid to love. Don't be afraid to trust. As they say, everything you want is on the other side of fear. Just stay mentally prepared for the possible outcomes. I also suggest you don't get into your next relationship till you're ready. Remember, the way you break up with girls for no good reasons and thereby breaking their hearts is damaging them as well and making them hell for the next man they'd date (who might also come here to complain about women). Good luck! |
Bettykeys:How does this change anything though? |
Nice lady... But won't this revelation put her in trouble? |
Lol... nice one. |
Promotion. He quickly grabbed the opportunity to sell himself. |
temitope27:He was obviously kidding. |
Muyiwaipere:Lol... the OP is just funny. |
Maybe he meant "only a fool goes to work when he's sick" (forgive my pidgin, lol). The thing is, Nigerians abuse the system and call it being smart. An employee has a certain number of sick days in a year. Asides from actually being sick, he can use these days for stuff like doctor's appointments as well (vaccination and stuff like that). In fact, it's okey to take some of your sick days if you're just feeling down or moody. What is not cool is taking such days for Friday fun. What will then happen when you eventually need them? Your salary will start getting prorated of course. |
The heart of man is wicked. |
I think we all have those people whom we'd never ignore in this scenario as well as those people we'd definitely ignore without thinking twice. A good deal of the time, we react based on our relationship with the second party and not necessarily based on the general concept of ideality. |
Why not drop the trailer link here? I only know about "Jupiter Ascending" and it was directed by two Russian American, I think. |
Cousin9999:I meant the payment. The American government did not make any payment. So saying they made this to protect white house secrets is just off. |
Nairalanders are disappointed there's no reason to bash this female celebrity. |
leoDas:The company isn't even fully a US company. It's owned by investors from Australia, South Korea, Canada, the US and the Netherlands with the US investors owning only 28.09%. |
BigDawsNet:First, this has nothing to do with the US government. Second, the name "White House" is only used to refer to where the President and First Family of the United States live and work. |
Cyberterror: orikoku:The US government? Colonial Pipeline Co., is a privately held company. It is owned by five sets of investors: 1) Koch Industries (28.09%) USA 2) South Korea's National Pension Service and Kohlberg Kravis Roberts (23.44%) South Korea 3) Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (16.55%) Canada 4) Royal Dutch Shell (a.k.a. Shell Pipeline Company (16.12%) Netherlands 5) IFM Investors (15.80%) Australia |
I wonder if people really get any helpful advice when they bring relationship issues to Nairaland. |
shogsman:That is where you must make a trade off between functionality and user privacy. If you are banned on Facebook, you can't signup with the same phone, the same number, the same email address, or by using any WiFi network which you may have used your suspended Facebook account on. This functionality is available because of the amount of data the app collects while you're using it (details about your device, your location, your movements, your cookies, etc.) Someone like you would still complain when you realize that the app you're using leaves you with no privacy at all. But then, you can't have your cake once you've eaten it. Don't get me wrong, I also believe the app needs more features and the administrators need to do more to curtail the excesses of the users. I'm just pointing out some considerations and designs decisions involved. I had an interesting chat here last year on how ML could be used to solve some of these problems, but that's a discussion for another day. |
shogsman:Your point is clear, the site is very basic and users are asking for more. I just want to add that Quora actually has its own dark side full of seemingly "perverted" individuals who aren't necessarily breaking any law or constituting threats to others (I mean the sexuality section). The app only shows you what you want to see. But like you said, it is more authentic and even such individuals still exhibit remarkable decorum when interacting with one another. However, I believe the major difference between this site and the ones you mentioned is not necessarily the reg fields. Most of them still authenticate using email and anyone can easily create one (people have multiple accounts on Facebook too). The difference is the people ware (users and administrators). Nigerians are inconsiderate, unempathetic and somewhat hostile in nature. Forums like this just reveal these characteristics. The administrators here are easily overwhelmed and many of them (being Nigerians themselves) don't see certain things as unacceptable. When a white man tries to protect people's mental health or advocate for the end of certain discriminatory attitudes against others, Nigerians say "oyibos and their funny ways". They somehow believe they are stronger but in reality, they're just normalizing being mean to one another. |
Beautiful. Peaceful. What does it say about other religions? |
dasparrow:Lol... Such utterances though. |
Toluwise:@bolded; sorry about that. Nevertheless, I'm actually a software engineer in North America. |
